TWOAPW #168: THE NOSTALGIA CRITIC
Hellloooooo,聽we鈥檙e The Worst of All Possible Worlds, we remember it so you don鈥檛 have to! We all remember Doug Walker, you know, that guy with the glasses, the tie, and the plain white background because they clearly couldn鈥檛 afford a better set? Well, wouldn鈥檛 you know it, he created a character called the Nostalgia Critic, a loud, obnoxious, Looney Tunes-adjacent blowhard who got famous for being very mad about Batman having a credit card. But does he have anything to say about our current critical landscape or do his over-the-top antics make him look like a groundhog on meth? Let鈥檚 take a look at: The Nostalgia Critic.

FMT #23: IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD (1963)
On this episode of Fancy Movie Time with Brian and A.J., the Fancy Lads hop in a biplane and knock out Jim Backus as they cover Stanley Kramer's 1963 mega-comedy: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. Do its wide array of comedic stars and its commitment to throwing every bit at the wall make it a Fancy Feast? Or does its lugubrious pacing and cast of mostly comedic non-actors make it a Failure to Fancy? One thing's for sure: people in 1960s San Diego really loved to DANCE.

I was raised Catholic, not CRC, but your essay really resonated with me as a married queer person. I was a Sunday school teacher and VBS volunteer as a high schooler, and I had so much love for the Church. It's now been a decade since I've set foot in a church outside of funerals. Why love an institution that can't or won't love me back, even if I still love the people? Thank you for this essay, and for the pod.
thanks for writing in! it鈥檚 some deep, deep pain but i think it helps to talk about it

Is there a specific episode in which the calvinist concept of "the best of all possible worlds" from which the show takes it's name from is discussed?
no; the title of the show is a reference to voltaire鈥檚 candide hence cool voltaire
