hi! I love your podcast, especially the AiO ones. I missed out on the heyday of the radio drama (I do remember Eugene being sent to hell because he was my favorite character), but I was an avid reader of the Imagination Station books. In the past yall have debated over the nature of the IS, so I’m here to tell you that in the books at least the IS is presented as legitimate time travel. In the first book a pair of cousins named Beth and Patrick go to Whit’s End where Whit is tinkering with a broken IS. The IS will only work for the cousins, and Whit charges them with going back in time to the Viking era to bring back a sunstone because a note appeared in the IS asking for it to save a man named Albert. Whit seems to have some understanding of what will happen in the IS (he gives Beth a plot-relevant chess set) but beyond that he doesn’t know what will happen for sure when they take their adventure. When the cousins return with the sunstone they place it on the IS’ dash and it disappears, bringing a new note asking for “the Roman’s silver chalice” once again to save Albert. I don’t remember much after that but there is a plot line with the cousins getting set adrift in time and getting separated from the IS. They are also unable to return to the present without being in the IS and pressing the red button. I don’t know if that clears anything up but 👍
I mean, A.J.'s going to have a FIELD DAY with this info, thank you so much!

saw hadestown for the first time and when hades turned to the audience with faux-surprise and a shit-eating grin and said the "oh, it's about *me*" line when he demands that Orpheus sing him a song struck me as a violently AJ Ditty ass moment
More like Dittystown.

Blaming the folks at @theworstofallpossibleworlds for making me morbidly fascinated with dissecting insidious evangelical radio dramas aimed at kids (and their parents). It’s gotten to the point where it has slipped into my work life as well. I’m now using Adventures in Odyssey as an example when I teach about religion in the US and the way it manifests in the public sphere. I can tell you that French highschoolers are completely baffled by it.
(TWOAPW is a great podcast, not just the AiO episodes. If you like musical theater, weird internet stuff, really sharp observations about American culture, and horses, I can't recommend the show enough. Also maia arson crimew was on a couple of time, and it's a fantastic guest!).

What’s the process like for deciding what types of specifically video games you folks cover? Games feel like something that aren’t always easily approachable from an outside perspective, and many (like RPGs) are often reaaaaally long, so I’m curious to know how you select your topics. Would you ever cover something that falls far outside the purview of what you all are comfortable/interested in playing?
We actually approach games the same way we approach any topic selection: Did the work move us in some distinct way (positively or negatively) and is there an interesting discussion to be had with all three of us about that topic? Because video games require the additional layer of skill in order to see them through to the end, we try to pick games that we will all be able to roll credits on (or, if it's not a linear story, at least put in enough time to feel comfortable talking about it). RPGs are difficult not only because of the length of time it takes to complete them but also because talking about ANY media that's 40+ hours long can get a little daunting (2 and a half hours is not long enough to really get into the nitty gritty of something like Persona 5, for example). But, broadly speaking, nothing is as important to us as those first two questions because we find that if the answer to both of those is HELL YES!!! it just makes for better episodes overall.

TWOAPW #181: ANIMAL CROSSING: NEW HORIZONS
Good morning, everyone! The current date is March 20, 2020. Residents, I have some exciting news for you! The Lads have just moved onto our wonderful island! Let’s all give them a big island welcome! In other news, the museum is under construction and you’ll never go outside again. Be sure to visit Blathers tomorrow once construction is complete. Clean your groceries with bleach and head on down to the shore because we have a visitor to the island! It’s always so interesting learning about different people and the shops are closed and the streets are closed and there’s nothing but deathdeathdeath but don’t you worry because tomorrow Flick is due to come and somebody’s gotta catch those bugs. That’s all for now, I hope you have the loveliest of lovely days!

Hey, just finished watching Slings and Arrows, and wanted to thank you guys for introducing me to it. I actually haven't listened to your episodes on it yet, because I wanted to watch it first after reading the description. It's one of my favorite shows of all time now, I just bought it on bluray and cried at the last episode. I'm a Senior in college, who despite majoring in History and CS, have done theater steadily since high school and really gotten back into it this school year, directing a production in the Fall and am currently directing Dracula. I feel like I'm at a bit of a crossroads, about to graduate, and the siren song of theater has been getting me again and because of that Slings and Arrows really resonated with me. It made me really see theater again and made me feel the same passion I had in high school just getting into it. I know no matter where I end up, I never want to stop doing theater, no matter what form that will take. So, thanks for that, even if indirectly (though your theater episodes did start me going down this path again as well).
glad you enjoyed it and condolences on getting bitten by the theatre bug

TWOAPW #179: THE ROOM (2003)
How did the lads meet? Well that’s a very interesting story, when Brian and A.J. moved to New York with two suitcases and didn’t know anyone and they have-uh-they head to YMCA with a $2000 check which they could not cash. Why? Well, because it was an out of state bank. Anyway, uh- they were working as busboys in a hotel, and uh-uh Josh was sitting, drinking his coffee, and he was so beautiful, and they say hi to him. That’s how they met. What’s the interesting part? Well the interesting part is that after their first recording, Josh paid for dinner.
