This is a brand new science for me, and I love it. The language of luck. 'Cause what is a coincidence but a form of accident? Two things bumping together unexpectedly. Like you and me.

End of a Legion, part 2
Previously: 1
------
Alexandrea came back from their vision, the goddess of the hunt looking down on them with shame. How could one of her blessed have broken their oath, she thought. The goddess put the blade of her weapon under their chin and made it so they couldn’t look down to the ground in shame.
“What have you to say for yourself, oathbreaker?” She asked, her voice a quiet boom that rang through their head as Alexandrea did their best to keep their calm.
“I…I broke it, How could this have happened.” They replied quietly, not wanting anyone else to hear them.
“Yes you did little one, I ask again, what have you to say for yourself?” She asked again, her voice the same as before.
Alexandrea looked up, their stare one of guilt and a longing for repentance. “Give me a chance to redeem myself.” They stated directly, their mind going back to what they read in the library earlier that day. The goddess was taken aback with their request.
“Why should I?”
“You don’t take anyone the first time, unless the history is wrong you always mark first then come back for them.”
“That is…true, but what do you mean by ‘redeem yourself?’”
“Let me take another oath and undertake an impossible quest. If I fail you take me without question next time you ride.”
“And if you succeed…”
“If I succeed then I’m no longer an oathbreaker and you take your mark.” The goddess studied Alexandrea, looking for a hint of trickery but she couldn’t find one. The tiefling was serious about this and she hated this…sincerity coming from one who broke their oath.
“Why would I do such a thing?” She asked, hoping this question would show their true intentions.
“Because I would ask for the opportunity to find the Court of Storms and bring them back to the realm.” They said earnestly, once again there was no hint of trickery from them which was slowly causing the goddess to grow annoyed.
“You would surely fail.”
“Perhaps.” Alexandrea replied, this only served to further annoy the goddess.
“What makes you so certain you’d have a chance at succeeding?”
“Despite everything I am still a servant of the gods and a servant of my oath. Given the chance I will prove that to you and to myself. I will not fail this and I will bring back my people.”
“Do not speak of oaths so carelessly when you have already broken yours.” The goddess spat.
“I do not.”
The goddess stood there, looking them down with disgust at their honesty and their seeming flippancy at oaths, but as much as she hated it, she also saw a hint of their purity of heart and their fervent devotion to their ideals. She sighed in frustration and hung her chest in exasperation.
“You truly believe you can bring them back?”
“I believe I have a chance, and I’d be a fool not to take it.”
The goddess let her annoyance show as she grabbed Alexandrea and held them up so they’d be looking into her eyes if she had a head.
“Once this happens you won’t be able to take it back, are you sure about this?” She asked. They nodded their head in response.
The goddess acknowledged their response and threw Alexandrea to the ground before she started chanting in infernal.
“Farghe ohm, farghe an. Farghe ohm, farghe an. Ultro vahn ist cal.” She spoke and Alexandrea’s soul left their body and with it the goddess saw how pure their soul actually was, save for a scar on it from their previous oath which had been broken.
“Sho teyval yaw comas aqon vetri est ohm. I bind you with this oath and with this oath I show you your soul. Etra viqo moz etra ohm. With this, I mark your soul as a paladin. Now you shall live out the rest of your days as a servant of me, your goddess of death and the goddess of your people. Farghe ohm, farghe an. Farghe ohm, farghe an. Sho vetri moz teyval sho drys.” With that, she marked Alexandrea’s soul with the image of a crow and put their soul back into their body.
“I shall give you one piece of guidance for when you wake, and you shall know it inherently. That is all I can give you, I wish you luck on your quest and may the darkness protect you, lone member of the Court of Storms.”

so we all agree that kirkwall is both horrifying and fascinating and i wish they'd delved more into its bloody history beyond the snippets we get from the codexes of the band of three. like hello?? three seekers of truth - among which a dalish mage - scurrying about the sewers and lower passages of the city, discovering that kirkwall was designed as some sort of magical symbol, has grooves in the sewers allowing the flood of blood downward for blood magic purposes, and last but not least realizing that its circle of magi had a much higher number of failed harrowings & episodes of blood magic hysteria than basically any other circle in existence??? you cant leave me hanging like that. why was the veil so thin there even before tevinter came? why were they weakening it further?? what was tevinter doing with all those disappeared slaves every year and the huge blood magic ritual involving thousands of slaves and the city itself being a magic symbol??? did the band ever find out if the Forbidden Ones are the same Forgotten Ones of dalish lore??? why was xebenkeck called 'forgotten one'??? hello????? what the fuck is up in kirkwall??????

Caesars legion crucified my (35 NB) favorite butch tboy rangers (36 FtM, 200+ F) and the NCR blamed me for their deaths and cut me off. I sent nuclear missiles from The Divide to both factions in response. AlTA?

Ulysses obsession with the Courier is a special type of sad to me cause the Courier’s part was so important but so unwitting. They had no idea what was in the package they delivered and neither did he. Neither had an idea of what it could’ve done and the Courier was only caring out their job (mind you the Courier could be killed via notes in the express contract if they don’t). To them it was just another regular delivery to the divide and one that they likely thought would help, just like all the ones before.
It’s so tragic for Ulysses to hold so much ire to the Courier when it really was the case of it could’ve been anyone. Anyone could have delivered that package but they did and so he focused the blame on them and it destroys what he is trying to instill in the courier on a fundamental level.
#like yeah the courier delivered the package but in the end that’s a job#any random courier could’ve delivered it especially since we know in the past the factions were farther apart and this travel was a smidge#safer but courier six got it and this Ulysses blamed them#like I don’t care much for Ulysses because I think lonesome road embodies don’t shoot the messenger at it core#and what people focus on doesn’t focus on the fact that in the bigger picture#everything went wrong because two factions were at war and at some point the codes would have been delivered#and the divide destroyed cause with how close it is to NCR territory it would of been found#like there is an inevitable and too many people treat Ulysses as if he knows more or is more aware of the idiosyncrasies of conflict#when he’s like fundamentally flawed just at the standard of being a legion apologist STILL and just how focused he is on one persons#involvement cause yeah choices matter even the small one but I think Veronica’s quest says it best with a line from the courier#you can’t control what they do#like the courier couldn’t and can’t control what they deliver and yet it’s got them in hot water multiple times#like do you think they enjoy being shot or knowing they are indirectly responsible for activating the annihilation of a community#to me it’s hypocrisy to be willing to end the world or one world to prove a point and whatever argument made that only military factions#suffer forget there are innocent civilians suffering that had no part and Ulysses is no better than the Courier#I don’t like devils advocate and a lot of the dlc just feels like that but idk I know people love it but the depth is just not there for mr#ulysses fnv#fallout#fallout new vegas#courier six#the courier#lonesome road#the courier has very little personality outside what we give them but some lines and delivery paint a picture#like uhhhh undertale deltarune rules ig
