Too often, the narratives surrounding Indigenous peoples focus solely on their suffering and trauma, perpetuating a one-dimensional view of their experiences. throughout the interaction i had with them, i watched them become more relaxed and open, simply seeing me as a queer adult doing my job

i sort of feel like i served as an example for that student, of a queer person existing successfully in society.

i could pick up on their habits mannerisms and fashion, and related my own experiences to that. they were visibly disabled, so i wanted to ease their mind about accessibility concerns in the building, so i mentioned my heart condition and trouble with walking up stairs. they were immediately more comfortable. we used the elevator

i complimented their nonbinary pride flag bracelet, and pushed my hair aside so they could see my name badge with my pronouns, and they smiled.

it's so freeing to be seen without the expectation for any explanation, and i know that so i wanted to give them that peace of mind. i wanted to show them that the world outside of high school is survivable. hope is not crushed, i am here, i am visibly queer, and so it is possible for them too.

Men can receive knowledge about everything and they will still commit all these heinous crimes that they already do. The most successful, richest and powerful men are highly educated from the prestigious universities, and yet the most corrupt and evil people on this planet. Yes, men naturally lack intelligence, they lack wisdom, and they are the most dumbest species on this planet. But you’re forgetting that they are all sadists as well; the trait that you cannot erase by feeding their minds. Knowledge brings out the smartness in a woman, but it brings out the most cunning nature of a man. So don’t waste your energy teaching men about everything. You teach a man how to cook and he will still murder his wife for overcooking his meal. You teach a man about female bodily anatomy and he will jerk off to every single detail he hears about it. You teach a man he’s allowed to cry and he will use his tears as a tool to play victim. You teach a man about technology and he will use his skills to send threats to women. You teach a man why the world is dangerous for women and he will use that information to control women in his family in the name of "protection" just to flex his masculinity. If you seriously think educating men will liberate women then you actually need to educate yourself and continue doing that until you learn and realise that men do not care about women.

Dr. John Henrik Clarke famously stated, “Black people have no friends.” For many, this may sound harsh, but it is a sobering truth when viewed through the lens of Pan-Africanism and Marcus Garvey’s philosophy. Garvey understood that Black liberation can not depend on external allies; it must come from within—rooted in self-reliance, unity, and a shared commitment among Black people globally.

Here’s why, Dr. Clarke’s statement rings true and why, from a Garveyite perspective, Black people don’t need friends—only each other.

1. History Proves It

From colonialism to the civil rights era, supposed "friends" of Black people have repeatedly betrayed or abandoned us. Other groups have leveraged Black struggles for their own gains, only to leave Black people behind once their goals were achieved.
