The psychological effects of employee appreciation at the workplace
The science of ‘appreciation’ is really simple. It has the capacity to change and strengthen the brain in remarkably positive ways. Studies have shown that positive emotions correlate with effective immune system function, which likely affects the ability to fight diseases that can lead to fewer absences and sick days for employees. In this article, we examine the importance of appreciation in the workplace with respect to their impact on employee satisfaction and productivity.
Apart from its positive effects, appreciation in the workplace also promotes psychological safety. Appreciation also influences the attitude of others, as support from superiors and colleagues leads to increased satisfaction in interpersonal relationships at the workplace. A supportive work culture, rooted in the habit of giving appreciation also contributes towards employee well-being – by providing a positive environment for employees who experience mental illness such as depression and anxiety; especially in the current pandemic times.
Can appreciation bring about behavioural change?
Here’s an interesting approach to comprehend the impact of employee appreciation. Consider this, neighbor 1- Alex and family who have a child named Ron, age 8 year old vs neighbor 2- Rahul and family who also have a child named, Rohan, the same age as Ron. They both go to the same school in the vicinity. Alex’s family is focusing on learning and growing the kid and appreciates their son for every little task he does. Be it a small win, they appreciate and celebrate the moment when Ron tries something new even if he is slower at picking up things, their approach is to motivate Ron to complete the task and always be ready to learn something new. On the other hand, Rohan is a bright child with superb creative skills and does amazingly well at school. He is always amongst the top graders, but his family is still not convinced and pushes him to strive to get 100% results. They have stopped all of his extracurricular activities for him to focus on his studies.
As you would agree, the impact of the approach in upbringing on both the children works differently. Ron who is an average kid and a slow learner but appreciated for his work turns out to grow more confident and an enthusiastic learner with a never giving up approach whereas, on the other hand, Rohan despite being a talented kid turns out to be under-confident as he is more focused towards perfection. The non-recognition resulted in him doubting himself even after achieving more.
The same psychology plays out at the workplace where an employee who is never appreciated or recognized for his/her efforts, in turn, doubts his capabilities and may resist trying something new.
So the question to ask ourselves is, how often do we appreciate our employees or colleagues for their efforts?
Appreciation may seem a small thing but often neglected and we don’t try hard enough to make it a habit. A great way to recognize your subordinate or to promote peer-to-peer recognition is to have a centralized social recognition platform like Buzzz that allows you to recognize anyone from anywhere through text, audio and even video messages. The recognition is visible to everyone across the platform in the organization where others can interact by liking and commenting on the post. This tool gives the power to make the recognition more prominent and visible for everyone to see the great efforts put by an employee and also motivate others to achieve more.
Let’s find some ways to express appreciation to those who really should hear about it, as well as some of the benefits of appreciation in the workplace. Here we unpack the psychology behind appreciation by explaining how it works and explore some tips on how to cultivate it not just for ourselves but also for others.
1.    Appreciating changes the giver, not just the receiver
Appreciation is not only about the impact you have on others, but also about yourself. If you take your appreciation seriously, you will see the positive impact it can have on your mental health. Appreciation of the workplace has a huge impact on a person’s happiness and wellbeing. Even when you feel self-conscious, the positive effects of expressing appreciation to an individual can outweigh any passing sense of embarrassment. Expressing appreciation and expressing it in the form of a positive comment, such as a smile, a hug or even a handshake, is a great way to ensure that your appreciation is conveyed e sincerely and genuinely.
2.    It boosts productivity
People who feel valued experience greater self-esteem and thus increase their satisfaction with their work and their ability to contribute to the company. This also has an impact on how employees see their role in their work environment, as those who have received rewards & recognition feel valued and happier in the workplace, which in turn leads to a stronger relationship between employees and the people they work with and feel better about their company. Whether you thank a stranger for holding the door or sending a thank you note, recognizing other people’s contributions can also lead to new opportunities.
3.    Encourage employees to go out of their comfort zone
While appreciating if the giver does not express in a meaningful way and if the receiver does not feel like his/her sense of self-esteem grew, then such an appreciation will become yet another tick box that managers can tick and continue to stay detached from the employees’ performance. Appreciation has the power to infuse confidence that cannot be taken away, as we saw in the Ron and Rohan example above. Appreciation at the workplace not only motivates employees but also encourages them to go out of their comfort zone and they certainly will then try to achieve more.
4.    It boosts team spirit
Appreciation means the world to employees, especially at times when they learn a new task and may make personal sacrifices to get the job done. And sometimes a pat on the back is simply not enough. If you use techniques that encourage the expression of appreciation in the form of gratitude, everyone will feel appreciated and positive, turning daily stress into a daily grin. Providing a culture that encourages appreciation can promote positive mental health and produce happier employees, as demonstrated by the fact that many employees and managers agreed that showing appreciation in the workplace is extremely motivating and boosts team spirit.
5.    Steadily it becomes a habit or culture
You don’t have to be an expert in emotional intelligence to show gratitude and appreciation in the workplace. Before looking at the psychology of recognition of workers, try practicing on a smaller level as it helps to understand some of the proven benefits of appreciation for employees. The saying ‘preach before you teach’ fits well here- before asking your employees to express their gratitude and appreciate their colleague’s efforts, it is important for leaders to practice this by saying thank you for the job done and express how grateful they are to have them in the company. Slowly and steadily you can see it becoming a part of employees’ habit and sooner will be a part of strong work culture.
If you don’t focus on showing appreciation to your employees and only on compensation, chances are they will view your efforts as disingenuous. Simply asking staff how they want to be recognized is a great way to make formal recognition processes more meaningful and personal.
As an organization’s  HR leader or team manager, the most important thing is to find reasons to be grateful and to remain open to appreciate everything, no matter how small it may seem. Even on the worst days, it is gratitude that we find in ourselves to realize that a bad day must come to an end. Offer reassuring and affirming words of appreciation and gratitude to your employees when they deserve it. Whether you write a handwritten note, email or comment, employees know that their hard work is being recognized and that it will make them happier, healthier and more productive. They will do their best to be recognized and know that you are an appreciative employer, even if it is only for a moment.
If you are an employee, you can create your own grassroots movement of gratitude by expressing your appreciation and encouraging your colleagues to do the same.

Happy Birthday!
summary: what they do and how they spend your birthday with you <3
warnings: none
a/n: thought of this since today is my birthday!
Kuroo Tetsurou, Kotarou Bokuto, Shouyou Hinata, & Kenma Kozume
Tumblr media
Kuroo Tetsurou
✿ Kuroo wants to make sure you have the best birthday ever
✿ he’ll throw you a surprise party and everything. He just wants you to have a good time
✿ first Kuroo will take you out to go get breakfast and you guys talk about what you have to do for that day
✿ meanwhile your friends and his friends from nekoma and karasuno are at your house decorating and getting everything set up
✿ once you and Kuroo get done with breakfast he takes you shopping so you can get some things that you want he’s paying ofc
✿ if you try to tell him that you don’t want anything or that you’ll pay for yourself he will not stand for it. He will literally force his card into the employee’s hands
✿ he’ll go with you to get your hair and nails done for your birthday so you can look all nice and pretty pls let him pick out a nail color he just wants to be helpful 😭
✿ when you’re done yaku texts him that everything is ready and to bring you home. When you get there your friends all jump out and scream happy birthday
✿ everyone plays games and eats some food and cake
✿ after the party when everyone has left Kuroo gives you your gift from him after much teasing on his part
✿ it’s a photo book full of pictures from when you two started dating and some that are pretty recent. If you look at him you can obviously see a light pink tint on his cheeks indicating that he was nervous.
✿ if you tease him about this he’ll either get defensive and playfully tell you off or admit that the reason he’s blushing is because he was nervous. No in between
Bokuto Kotarou
✿ now Bokuto is special. He will force you to stay over at his house the night before your birthday and sing you happy birthday knowing it’s not 12 yet
✿ he just loves you so much he wants to wish you a early happy birthday
✿ once it’s finally 12 bokuto will hug and kiss you so much you feel like your face and body might go numb
✿ he’s so energetic you have to tell him to save his energy for earlier in the day and to go to sleep with you
✿ when you guys wake up and do your routine bokuto is glued to you. Anywhere you go he’s going too. Bathroom? Okay, he had to go too. Kitchen? Alright, let’s make breakfast. Going back to sleep? Hmm well fine, he could use the extra few minutes.
✿ kind of like Kuroo, Bokuto will get some of his and your friends to come hang out with you for your birthday
✿ you guys might go out to eat or something and celebrate there
✿ wants everyone to know it’s your birthday and will make sure they know too. He got you one of those award ribbons saying ‘birthday girl’, ‘birthday boy’, or ‘it’s my birthday!’ And yes you have to wear it
✿ when you guys get some alone time Bokuto’s demeanor will change from playful and energetic to serious. The shift is crazy and it will catch you off guard
✿ but anyway he’ll tell you how much he loves and appreciates you and how he really hopes that you had fun for your birthday
✿ he’ll give you a handmade bracelet or necklace and some snacks cuz he’s not very good at gift giving
✿ he hopes that him making the jewelry was okay instead of him buying it. He just wanted to get you something more meaningful
Hinata Shouyou
✿ Hinata is literally bouncing off the walls
✿ he so excited for your birthday dare I say more excited than you
✿ he doesn’t know what to do but he’ll just do whatever you wanna do
✿ if you stayed over at his house then he’s waking you up with soft gentle kisses on your face, but if you didn’t then he’s the first one to tell you happy birthday once it hits 12
✿ you guys are doing everything for your birthday. Maybe even things you haven’t even tried
✿ Hinata will take you out for a little walk while holding hands with you as you talk about what plans you have for today
✿ you’ll go get some ice cream and maybe even share one together if Hinata is feeling a little bold
✿ after ice cream you guys go to get some food and talk. Hinata might even ask force you to play volleyball with him if the conversation steers towards that direction
✿ if you’re celebrating with friends or family then that’s your next stop after he absolutely crushes you in volleyball. He’s like the loudest one singing happy birthday
✿ like bokuto, Hinata is glued to you the whole day and he won’t let you go. He’s like a little puppy following you around everywhere you go
✿ for your gift Hinata made you this little diy box full of cute pictures you took at the photo booth and some cute keychains, charms, and plushies
✿ after he gives you your gifts you guys eat some cake and watch movies
Kenma Kozume
✿ kenma is pretty laidback for your birthday. Although he wants to make sure you have fun he also doesn’t want to overwhelm or overstimulate you with so much stuff
✿ he invites you to stay the night the day before your birthday under the guise of ‘playing video games’ when in reality he just wanted to be the first person to tell you happy birthday
✿ both of you stay up for hours and when it’s 12 kenma pauses his game, turns to you while having a small smile on his face, and says “happy birthday, [name]” with the softest voice ever. Depending on how brave he’s feeling he just might give you a quick kiss on the lips
✿ if there’s something that you specifically want to do that day kenma is all for it. Even if it’s something physically demanding
✿ when you both wake up he cuddles into you some more while softly talking to you as to not break the peacefulness of the room
✿ kenma will do his best to make breakfast for you but don’t expect it to be top tier cooking because he’s not really the best at it
✿ if you’re celebrating with friends and family then you guys will bake your cake together.
✿ kenma will take you to the beach later on in the day so he can have some more alone time with you. If you want to he’ll even dip his feet into the water with you (doesn’t have to be the beach it can be anywhere just someplace that isn’t very populated/crowded)
✿ when it’s time kenma will sing you happy birthday as another surprise although it would most likely take a great deal of persuasion from Kuroo for him to even consider doing it
✿ he’ll be so nervous while singing it and if you tease him about it kenma will lovingly tell you to shut up and that the only reason he did it was because it was your birthday
✿ when kenma thinks it’s an appropriate time he’ll give you your gift which was a cherry blossom tree lego set and some ramen with a heartfelt message. Like Bokuto he really isn’t good at gift giving
✿ he’s so nervous when gifting them to you. His hands are superglued to his pockets while you examine your gift. If you tell him you like it then he’ll be really happy and you both will spend the rest of the day putting together your cherry blossom tree

[old money] James x fem!reader
《 Summary - After a coincidental encounter, James takes interest in one of his employees. 》
𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐭
Who didn't know the Potters, especially when they owned everything. From banks, houses, and yachts to mansions, planes, and private islands. The family was known for its wealth and power. Almost ten generations have come since their fortune was assigned and now they’ve reached the point in being one of the richest and influential families in Europe.
And it wasn’t every day James Potter, the only living heir, walked into a diner where he would only be served greasy fries and pizza. His perfectly tailored designer clothes made him stick out like a sore thumb no matter where he sat.
Sat on a table at the far end of the room, with a relaxing book in his hands and a steaming cup of black coffee on the table; James Potter’s eyes wandered from word to word and line to line, finding peace in between the letters. His eyes would raise temporarily every time the hanging door bells jingled to check if his company had arrived.
Despite the loud noise of chatter, the diner was mostly empty, only six tables were taken. The sudden and loud laughs of a group of women disrupted his reading, and James involuntarily swung his head towards them, confusion and curiosity swirling in his eyes.
There, by the booths, sat a group of five girls all cheering loudly for their friend. James guessed that the woman they were cheering for was engaged, his eyes slightly squinted at the lady as she displayed her hand on the table for everyone to see.
It's not long before he realizes he’s not the only one looking at them; an elderly couple next to him, smiled fondly at the ladies and laughed together after a few short-whispered words.
“Mr. Potter,” He blinked, refocusing his attention on the voice. He raised his head and found himself facing a young man in a wrinkled suit and skewed slim tie who was staring at him with a disturbingly wide smile. “An honor to have you here, truly.”
 “Thank you.” James responded blankly hoping to return to his book as quickly as possible without attracting unwanted attention from other diners, but it seemed as though the man did not comprehend James’ annoyance and instead decided to invite himself at James’ table.
“My name is also James,”
The Potter one sent the man a tight-lipped smile. “I own this place, it’s actually my dad’s but I managed to sway him into giving it to me. So, yeah.” At that, the man had finally stopped talking and stared at James as though he was expecting the man to hand him an award and at James awkwardly silent response, the man threw his head back and laughed loudly.
James narrowed his gaze at the man from behind his glasses and levelled him with a silent look of judgement. Though James did not speak any words his eyes expressed his feelings towards the man perfectly. And this time the man was able to clearly make out James' unpleasant impression of him.  "Not a man of many words, got it.”
“I’ll leave you to it then!” The other James said hesitantly, “If you need anything, and I mean anything I am right here!” The manager stood up and winked at him as he left.
James sighed tiredly as the man’s voice faded and had finally vanished from his view. It was not that James was rude, it was the fact he did not appreciate people trying to sway him while he was having one of his very rare moments of peace.
His life has always been open to the public, from press conferences and social events to having people stalk him to his home. And though James would have seemed rude he didn’t think the twenty-something year old boy would have anything to say that was worth listening to.
James would rather have this limited time to hear his own thinking without having everyone train their eyes on him and bug him with their opinions of his every thought.
And not a few minutes later, the door swung open once more, ringing the bells and allowing a cold breeze to flow in. James’ eyes followed the jingles as he raised his cup of coffee to his lips and when his eyes trained on the silhouette he was met with a surprising feeling of familiarity.
His hold on his book loosened, and he gently put the cup back on the saucer. He leaned back on his chair and narrowed his eyes at the woman, trying to make out where he could’ve seen her. By the style and quality of her clothes, he doubted they had worked together. And even if she wore something less normal, there weren’t many acquaintances he knew that would step into anything like this diner.
He let his eyes follow the lady’s figure all the way to the celebrating group of women, all of whom started beckoning her over once they saw her. The closer she was to them the clearer she became. Under the small restaurant’s soft yellow glow, he could finally notice her blue jumper and black trousers. She waved to her friends and walked to them, a black coat hanging from her arm.
Once she took a seat, she scanned the place; freezing once she laid eyes on him. Her eyes widened, blinking owlishly, staring at him with parted lips. She recognized him, yet he still couldn't make sense of who she was. A reporter? An ex? Maybe an assistant? An employee? His mind raced with possibilities and theories trying to guess or at least sense where he’d met her.
As time passes at the speed of a turtle, he can feel the young woman’s gaze at him from afar. Every few minutes or so she turns to him as though she’s expecting something to happen; he doesn’t dare look back but he does catch her eye once. He turns to his side, slightly annoyed and faces her, staring unashamedly.
Her face of curiosity morphs into one of embarrassment, and James finds himself breaking their little contest when the door swings back open again and his friend walks in, waving at James from across the room. He shoots the girl one last look but this time, it’s her back that’s facing him.
A week later, James is sitting on a lounge chair by the pool, hoping to get some work done. The sun shone brightly above him, and despite there being cool winds breezing by, James’ clothes still stuck to his skin through a layer of sweat.
“Mr. Potter,” Anders, the Potter's head butler, calls. James faces him, scrunching his face against the sun's rays and smiles.
“Yes, Anders?”
“I have Miss Page on the phone.” He states with a sympathetic smile, handing him the black land phone. James sighed, getting up and taking the phone, he sighs one more time, this time at his assistant’s name on the small screen. “Margret?”
“James! I called six times!” She exclaims, and he can hear the distracting background noises of ringing phones, chattering and pointy heels undoubtedly belonging to the woman on the phone. ”My phone isn’t with me.” James says after shuffling some papers and looking for it. “Why? Why would you not have your phone around you at all times? I mean, what if an emergency happens? Do I have to wait for Anders to pick up the phone after four rings?”
“Marge? I’m kind of busy here, too.” He says into the phone, stretching his legs by pacing around the large pool. The sun shines on the water so brightly that James has to have on his sunglasses just to not be blinded by the reflecting sparkles of light.
“Well you should thank me. I had the meeting on Tuesday postponed to Thursday, just like you asked. Then, I have Patrick bothering me about Jackson Mills. Things are heavy James, especially now with election season so close.”
“I’ll call Jackson today—”
“Great!” She cuts him off before he can even finish his sentence.
James chuckles softly as she moves on to the next thing on her list. Margret was a wonder truly, but don't be fooled she was direct and pointed as her heels.
“You have dinner at 6:30 on Wednesday with Delilah’s parents,” and for the next few moments the line is silent, “I can always tell them you got into a car crash, if you’d like?” She suggests, her voice much clearer now as the background noises fade out. “No, no, my parents have been pestering me about this for weeks, I might as well get it over with. Marge, the report for the new expansion project is on my desk, have Carter send them to me, please.”
There's a sound of shuffling papers before Margaret's voice appears once more, "It will be with you in 30 minutes."
As she continues, James looks down at his shoes in weariness, sighing, before raising his head up once more; movements by the bushes catch his eyes. He walks over to the end at the end of the pool, where he suspects the gardeners are working, his brows furrowing as he gets closer.
And when he finally reaches the fence, his lips parted in amusement and chuckles at the scene in front of him.
“James?”
“Sorry, Marge, you were saying,” James says, barely listening. His arms are leaned over the black fence that separates the pool from the gardens. There, on the ground, sat the woman from the restaurant. Her uniform was all muddy and stained with dirt and grass, her hair was pushed up in a messy up-do that was somehow being held up with a fork.
James laughs.
“Marge, I’ll call you later.” He says, cutting her off as he ends the call and stares at the woman. At the sound of his amusement, the young lady faced him with a perplexed expression. “Mr. Potter,” She addresses, eyes wide and strands of hair falling over her face. She huffs and fails to push them back with her arm. ”I’m so sorry for bothering you.” She said, “I can leave if you’d like. I’m done anyway.”
“No, no, there’s no need to leave.” He states, his eyes focus on her uniform, a question forming in his head. “May just ask, why are you working in the gardens if you're supposed to be working in the kitchens?” He asked, and he watched her squint her eyes and shade her view with with her arm.
“Tony, the usual gardener, his daughter, got in an accident. And since I’m done with my work, l told him I could take over while he went to see her in the hospital. I do hope you don’t mind.”
“No, no. But why not just call another one of the gardeners?”
“I…didn’t think of that.” She said, biting her lips and narrowing her eyes. “Mmmh,” James hummed, “So what is it you're doing exactly?”
“Oh I’m just potting these!” She said, pointing towards a bush of pinkish flowers. “Looks great.” He commented blankly.
“Think so? I’ve never done this before.” She pointed, getting on the ground once more.
“In the end of the day it’s them being judged, not your…limited knowledge in gardening.” He said and studied the woman as she laughed. “Oh you should see the Gardenia’s they've put by the gates! They’re gorgeous!”
“Do you like Gardenia’s?” He asks and takes off his shades as the clouds begin to cage the sun. He runs his fingers through his hair, pushing back loose curls. “They are very pretty.” She notes, and James foresees the incoming 'but'.
“– But not enough to be your favorite?” He finishes and she looks at him and shakes her head smiling. “I can’t pick at all. They’re all so beautiful.”
“You seem to know a lot about flowers but so little of gardening?”
“When I was younger, my neighbor gave me a flower book. It had the names of the flowers and when they bloomed, and where they bloomed. That's all it said. ” She shares, "I didn't really have much to do as a child, so I took on reading. I enjoyed it for a while."
James squinted his eyes at her. Curiosity blooming in his chest. Taking a step back from the fence, he pointed towards his pool with his thumb. "What would you put here?" He asked.
"I'm sorry?" She asked, confused.
"The pool seems kind of bland, doesn't it? It's all plain and boring. We can do better."
"Oh," she asks and stands back up to look onto his side of the fence. James took the opportunity to clearly look at the woman as she dusted her knees and skirt of grass. She was pretty, that was quite clear. But it didn’t make that much of a difference to James; after all he’s had his share of beautiful women every now and then.
She walked forward and leaned on the fence, the smell of jasmine reaching his nose. It was a lot more welcoming and relaxing than the smell of chlorine the pool gave off.
His studied her face, her focused eyes, her bitten lips, and even the small hairs failing to be held up. "....You could go for the classics and pick some roses?"
He arched a brow at her, and she pursed her lips in response before facing the pool once more. "Angel's Trumpet?"
"Aren't they poisonous to the touch?" He asked, leaning back on the fence and giving her his most charming smile. "Right, I forgot about that." She mutters, biting the inside of her cheek, James smiles at her embarrassed expression.
She shifts from one foot to the other. James catches her fidgeting fingers and instantly feels bad for making her uncomfortable. He stands up straight as a frown takes on his face. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have put this on you. It's not your job,"
"Oh no, it's fine, really. I... Oh! What about Daylilies?" She asked. James looked at her in thought, "What flower would be on all your top favorites lists?" She tilted her head in thought, her arms falling to lean on the fence as she fixed her gaze on the pool.
"Jasmine's." She stated as she looked at him. Suddenly aware of how their elbows are touching and how small the space between them is, James's smile turned to a light smirk.
It seemed that she noticed cause soon enough she coughed and took a step back, apologizing. "It's fine." James replied. His eyes wandered over her figure one last time before putting a hand out. "James."
She stared at his hand as though she believed it might bite her. She looked at him, then his hand, and took a step forward, pushing her hand out and introducing herself. “An honor.”
“The honor is all mine.” James says, holding her hand in care as he raised it to his lips and placed a gentle kiss on her knuckles. He watched her face break into a smile before she bit the inside of her cheek and faced James with a raised brow. James only smiled in return.
He wasn’t sure why but this woman had definitely caught his attention. “I should probably get going.” She said and leaned down to grab the leftover equipment and gave a hesitant wave.
“Good Bye” James said, waving back and watched as she disappeared behind the greenery of the gardens.
Tumblr media
The next day you woke up with a striking headache and the usual urge to fall right back into bed. It took at least 10 minutes to finally convince the rest of your body that it would be for the best to get up.
And you eventually did, after having a nice warm shower to soothe your back and warm you against the coldness of your bathroom, you dressed in your everyday clothes and quickly made your way to the local farmer’s market, in hopes of getting there early.
The most distinctive smell was that of Olive oil, it filled the air and the closer you got the easier it was to make out the strong scent of spices. It was 9:15, the farmers were set up and there was a respectful amount of families and people buying fresh groceries. It didn’t take long for you to grab your things, as you’ve been coming here for years you were practically a usual so most of your orders were pre-ordered and all you had to do is pick them up.
By 10 you were outside the large black gates to the estate, a golf car awaited your arrival as to drive to the main doors, you never really understood why there was around a mile from the gates to the Manor. “Thanks, Robert!” You said, grabbing the bags and running up the steps to the front doors of the service enterance. Anders swung the door open just as you reached the last step.
“Morning, Anders.” You greeted me with a smile.
“Good Morning, Miss —” He was cut off with four men entering the large foyer. You trailed your eyes over their uniform, a dirt-stained grey jumpsuit with a green flower logo on their chest. ‘Gardens?’ You mouthed at the older man, he nodded back. “Yes, Mr. Fretman, if you will follow me, please.”
You snickered at Anders' tone of exasperation as he guided the men out. You managed to side-stepped all the priceless furniture that was in your way to the kitchens and it was no easy task. It was more like an obstacle course, especially with your sense of sight being blocked off by overly filled brown paper bags.
Potter Estate was the definition of over the top.
The Manor consisted of 16 guestrooms, 24 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, an indoor pool, an indoor sauna and jacuzzi, a music room, 2 library’s, the theatre room, a sewing room, 4 offices, a wine cellar and an attic, with lord knows what in it.
The outside was even grander, there was the stables, the shooting range, the lake yards of grass and fancy gardens, the greenhouse (Which no one really sat in except Mrs. Potter whenever she visited), the outdoor pool, the garage and lastly the old stable house (Which, according to Anders, was turned into a "bat cave" by Mr. Potter Sr. for his son and his friends when they were younger.)
You made your way to the end of the west wing, pushing the large oak door open with your feet and sliding in. The evident silence came as a surprise, you would’ve expected to hear shouting, yelling, arguing, the sounds of slamming cupboards and chopping knives, something. But it was completely silent.
You placed the paper bags on the large kitchen island, which was three times the size of your bed and began sorting the fruits, vegetables and cheeses into the fridge and anything else in a cupboard. Once done, you threw the brown bags into a trash bin before washing your hands.
Your mind wandered away, wondering what might have happened to the rest of the crew. You huffed and wondered if you should look for them or not. Maybe they all got sick? But they were all fine yesterday. They were called somewhere else? Anders would have told you to join them. You took a look around and pushed your hair back with a headband and slipped on a hair net. You took one hesitant look around hoping someone would walk in but after a long and silent minute of you leaning on the marble table, gazing at the overly decorated door, you turned your gaze away from the entrance.
You shuffled from one cupboard, pulling all sorts of ingredients; flour, egg, sugar, vanilla , everything you needed to make a batch of cinnamon buns. And in a few moments you had already begun the first step, humming as you kneaded the dough, gently folding it between your hands and letting it rest for a while after you had declared it ready. You moved to preset the oven and a small red bulb lit up as you twisted the knob, signaling it was on.
You yawned and your vision blurred as your eyes teared up from sleepiness, you really needed to get a better sleep schedule. Brushing the tears away with your arms, you pushed yourself up, putting aside your weariness and walked back to your cooking station.
It was almost half an hour later, when the doors to the kitchen swung open and you smiled up at Anders as he walked over to you. You were practically done, he had walked in on you smearing the icing on the buns. “They’re fresh out of the oven! Try one!” You offered, cutting him a piece and plating it. “Here, you can top it with whatever you like.” You pointed towards the spread of different sauces and toppings on the table.
“Thank you very much, Miss L/n. And I do appreciate this but sadly I did not come here by my own means.” He says with a soft smile and you unconsciously wipe your hand on a cloth before facing the man with confusion. “Has something happened? Is that why everyone is absent? Does it have something to do with Tony’s daughter? Is she—”
“No, no, no. Mr. Willfard’s daughter is being treated for a broken arm and bruised sides, it’s been confirmed that she will make a full recovery.” He says and you smile gratefully, the worry inside of you lessening, still there but much more eased.
“And about the others, they were given a day off by Mr Potter.” He says and you freeze on the spot. “Oh.”
“Yes, ‘oh.’  and since we are on the topic. Mr. Potter has sent me to inform you that he is expecting you by the pool.”
Your eyes widened and so did your mouth, silent movements of your lips were targeted at Anders out of shock. “Mr. Potter, Mr. Potter? As in James Potter?”
“Are you acquainted with any other ‘James Potter’s?”
“No.” You answered hastily as you your mind racked to why he would want to speak with you and at the top of your head, and like a blaring siren, yesterday’s events shone. “Was he happy when he asked you to call me? Did he ask it in a ‘I just want to talk’ way  or more of a ‘I’m going to fire you’ tone.” You asked and you instantly felt smaller under the blank and unimpressed expression Anders gave you.
“If you will follow me – What are you doing?” Anders asks, his brows furrowing and lips frowning. “Plating these! They must be served warm or else they’re not as delicious.” You whisper, rushing around just as quick the thoughts in your head.
He sighs and leans his hands on the table, watching as you took your time to gently pick each roll and delicately place them on a large plate.
Once you're done you move the dirty trays to the sink and wonder if you could buy yourself some time as you scrubbed the pans and dishes.
“Leave those and follow me. I’ll assign someone to do them later.” Anders says and you can’t help but butt in, “But everyone took the day off! Except me.” You mutter the last part in a harsh whisper and sigh, accepting defeat. You grabbed one of the pastry-filled tray and angrily hand it to the butler before grabbing the others.
It almost feels like forever as you followed Anders, your fingers were nervously tapping the silver platter. You took deep breaths and purposely slowed your pace. Anders didn’t even bother to look at you as he led you. You looked around you trying to make out where he’s taking you too. It came as a surprise when you had passed James' office but now you were completely out of the Manor.
“Anders, where are we going?” You asked, Anders didn’t turn to you but did slow down. “To the pool grounds.”
He was going to fire you. You admitted mentally. Should've kept your mouth shut! It is a known, unspoken rule that you should never share your opinions with rich people.
You should treat them like kids, don’t talk to them, don’t get in their squabbles and don’t tell them the truth cause it will make them pissed and emotional and then you will be forced to deal with their tantrums.
However you completely ignored that rule yesterday, when you shared your opinions with Potter of all people. Before you even reach the pool, you hear loud noises and shouts coming from its direction. One very distinctive voice was that of James Potter.
“Miss L/n.” Anders addressed and motioned for you to step ahead of him. You sighed and masked your face before climbing the short stair in quick steps.
The first person you were met with was James. He stood towering over a large group of men that were scattered across the pool yard. James’ is dressed in similar attire to yesterday’s clothing and you almost smile back when he turns to you with a grin. “Mr. Potter.” You greet with a strained tone, placing the tray of buns on a nearby table with harsh clack.
“Oh, how lovely. Anders, please pass them to the workers, will you? And please call me James. How’ve you been?” He asks, still smiling and you're not so sure of what to make of the man.
Anders agrees in his usual formal tone and you watch him with the corner of your eye as he picks up your tray and walks down over to the working men.
“I’m fine?” You reply hesitantly and thankfully he doesn’t notice your questioning tone.
“Well I’m glad. I’m sorry to strip you of your day off, I assure you, you can have tomorrow for yourself.”
Your brows furrowed as you stared at the man, you're quite confused and to add to it you almost feel ridiculous while speaking to him with his sunglasses on. “Take off the shades.” You order in a blank tone and you see James’ posture change as he takes a step back and pulls the accessory off. Before he can get the chance to speak, you cut in, “Are you going to fire me?” You ask, the smile completely wiped off your face. You narrow your eyes at the man and watch as he speaks to you in genuine surprise. “Why would I fire you?”
“Then why am I here?” You asked, your confidence slipping. “I’m not here to fire you,” he laughs, “I just wanted to show you this,” He explains motioning towards the pool. “...I’ve seen the pool before.” You say, this time your confusion is clearly plastered on your face. “I mean this.” He says and he guides to the side of the pool, where three men are potting some Jasmine’s. “You picked Jasmine’s?”
“You said it was one of your favorites, right?” He asked, and you faced him with a look of surprise. “You picked Jasmine’s cause they were one of my favorites?” The older man blushed and he faced you with wide eyes, “No! Yes, but not directly, I just picked them because I guessed they’d have to have been really nice flowers if they were on your favorites list.”
“Okay.” You said, still confused but you sighed and brushed it all away. James watched your face soften as you took a step closer to them. “They are beautiful, aren’t they?” You ask, your eyes trained on the small, delicate, white petals of the flower. “Yeah…and they smell nice too.” You laugh, turning to face him as you lightly throw your head back. “Yeah, that too.” You agree watching a soft smile adorn his face.
“Here,” James says as he walks over behind a table, you watch lean down to grab something and your lips part in awe as he walks over to you with a pot of Jasmine’s. “Mr. Potter, I–” You’re in shock and happiness. They’re is a small sickening feeling in your stomach and you do your best to try and avoid it.
“A thank you,” He says. “And as I said earlier, it’s just James.”

@magnusbae challenged me to write smut using professional email language, and i'm nothing if not a slut for abusing corporate jargon!
-----
>> Saturday, March 26, 8:32pm – Morpheus <morpheus @ dreaming.com> to Office (All):
Subject: TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
I do not appreciate tardiness. Cease your dallying at once come Monday morning. Or there shall be consequences.
>> Saturday, March 26, 8:41pm – Hob <robert @ dreaming.com> to Morpheus:
RE: TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
Morpheus, mate, all due respect, what with your being the sole god, ruler, and iron-fisted authoritarian of the place, but do you have nothing at all better to do than send work emails on a Saturday night?
And before you say, "but Hob, you yourself are replying to emails this Saturday," you are so right! I’m currently drinking alone :)
>> 8:42pm – Morpheus to Hob
I should fire you for such insolence.
>> 8:47pm – Hob to Morpheus
Do it then :)
Alternative proposal: we commit several HR violations like we did in the office on Thursday.
>> 8:50pm – Morpheus to Hob
All proposals must be submitted to me in writing.
>> 8:52pm – Hob to Morpheus
You really want a paper trail?
>> 8:56pm – Morpheus to Hob
It has an email trail already, does it not?
>> 9:05pm – Hob to Morpheus
Please find attached my detailed proposal.
attachment: :)_version_1.docx
>> 9:07pm – Morpheus to Hob
This is twelve pages that only say, “I want to suck your dick.”
>> 9:09pm – Hob to Morpheus
What, have you got edits or something?
Do you need more time to review? Wanna circle back on it later? Block some time on my calendar to go over it? ;)
>> 9:15pm – Morpheus to Hob
My redline is attached.
attachment: :)_version_2.docx
>> 9:17pm – Hob to Morpheus
I’m amenable to those changes.
But on second pass I think we can accomplish more in this partnership. I think I’d like to take you apart slowly, have you begging. You’re always demanding, I think it might be good for you to beg for once. It’s not good business to agree without a little negotiation. I wanna see you beg for my cock.
What are your thoughts on this addition?
>> 9:40pm – Hob to Morpheus
Hi Morpheus, I hope this finds you well. Just following up on this question :)
>> 9:50pm – Morpheus to Hob
Perhaps I am considering.
You may wish to consider that I am your boss.
>> 9:53pm – Hob to Morpheus
I think there’s been a miscommunication. You seem to be laboring under the misapprehension that I give a fuck about that.
>> 9:54pm – Morpheus to Hob
I truly should fire you.
>> 9:55pm – Hob to Morpheus
Don’t you think you deserve to cum first?
>> 9:56pm – Morpheus to Hob
After I beg for it, you mean?
>> 9:57pm – Hob to Morpheus
Now you’re getting it.
If I correctly guess that you’re in your bed, that you’ve BEEN in your bed while you’re “considering,” do I get a gold star? Employee of the month?
>> 10:00pm – Morpheus to Hob
There is no possible universe where you win such an award.
However, your supposition may be correct.
>> 10:02pm – Hob to Morpheus
Excellent, so we’re on the same page, then :)
Are you touching yourself? Are you imagining it’s me touching you instead? Because I’m imagining I have you under me and I’m fucking into your tight hole instead of my hand. (And typing emails w/ one hand is not so easy btw).
>> 10:03pm – Morpheus to Hob
I have two fingers inside me. But it is not enough. I would have your cock.
>> 10:04pm – Hob to Morpheus
I think you know what I wanna hear.
>> 10:05pm – Morpheus to Hob
…Please.
>> 10:06pm – Hob to Morpheus
There’s a good boy.
Don’t worry, love, I’ll give you everything you want. You’re taking me so good, I just know it. Going to feel it for days.
>> 10:07pm – Morpheus to Hob
I am.
Yes
I would have you come in me. If you’re amenable.
>> 10:08pm – Hob to Morpheus
Fuck you make me so hot. Yeah I’m amenable. Will you cum for me first? Can you cum just from the feeling of me inside you?
10:09pm – phone call from <unknown>
“I thought… you would want to hear it.”
“God your voice… did you get this number from the HR directory?”
“What if I did?”
“Kinda stalkery but kinda hot. Are you close?”
“Very. I… I want you. Badly. Please, Hob.”
“I have you, darling. Ah, you beg so pretty. You can come. I want to hear you. Can you do it without touching yourself? Be good.”
“I can’t—”
“I know you can. Go on. Imagine me with you. Holding your hands to the bed so you can’t touch yourself. I can imagine how beautiful you look. I’d kiss you if I was there, wreck your mouth, too.”
“Hob—”
“Go on. For me?”
“Ah—”
“There you go, sweet thing. I wish I could see you.”
“Will you… come for me now? So I can feel you inside me?”
“Fuck—”
“Good. You feel… so good. Worthy of employee of the month, perhaps.”
“Oh, fuck you, Morpheus. You don’t even have awards at this place.”
“Of course I don’t. That would be inane.”
“Are you satisfied with my efforts, at least?”
“I am pleased to say that I am.”
“Still, I think we should probably debrief that meeting. You wanna touch base about it in person? Say… eleven pm? My calendar’s clear.”
“…Yes.”

Decided to refresh my knowledge of bendy protagonists personalities/quirks and i can say that i forget how distant canon Audrey is from fanon one sometimes
Here's relatively short list with Audrey character analysis+random tibbits (environmental/gameplay/voice lines)
(I'll appreciate if someone will interact+most of it is under the cut!)
1. Her workplace is an unorganized mess
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the right side: a couple of empty teacups, empty paper sheets, unopened envelope, books/notebooks, a toy ball and keys in the middle of the desk, storyboards that are UNRELATED to what she was working on;
On the left side: donut that she kept close to her elbow & storyboards while she was drawing + to-do list for a day
There's no WAY she'll be able to keep anything tidy. If you hc her and Bendy to have a familiar bond post game, she'll be as messy if not messier. Her home might be a wreck.
2. She easily distracts
- Audrey is working overtime and claims that she has "only eight hundred more frames to go" until the next deadline
But was she actually *actively* working?
She has unrelated items on her desk (listed above) and jumps on the first opportunity to get a coffee.
If she really did wanted to have a drink, she literally has a soda machine close to her office doors.
Tumblr media
Some brands of soda do have caffeine in them, right? Getting a coffee looks more like an excuse for a walk.
Bonus point: if you'll stay in her office without getting up (for 15 minutes), she'll acknowledge that she has no time to waste and will return to work instead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- "Well, the coffee's good and all. But this work's gotta get done"
Worth to acknowledge: this girl has "employee of the month" award and some kind of animation award (boris statue) in her office .
Does she stays overtime everyday to finish something? Or other Archgate employees are even worse at their jobs, somehow?
3. She uses dry sarcasm or makes jokes a lot
Honestly, it happens really often and should be brought up in fan content more imo.
Due to the images limit i can't put a lot of examples with screnshoots but I'll quote some of them.
- "i think you and i have very different definitions of alright" (toward Allison)
Tumblr media
- "Looks like he's having a bad day" (about dead lost one with the gent pipe)
- "Ok! Yeah! And that totally makes sense" (reaction to an easter egg)
- "That's one leap of faith i definitely won't make" (about the pit in animation alley)
4. Audrey gets defensive when someone starts to talk over her or when she feels overwhelmed
Audrey either will deny what was said or will acknowledge it by being sarcastic
Prominent example of this is her reaction to Memory!Joey at the hotel:
- "Oh,now you knew my father. Well, newsflash! I didn't even knew my father...or my mother. Or anyone else in my family" (after Joey says that she has "adventurous spirit of her father")
- "What? Are you crazy?... Who do you think you are?" (after the reveal of her being created by the ink machine)
+ Similar behaviour can be seen in her short interaction with Twisted Alice (Susie).
Audrey prefers to keep conversation equal between both sides and when it fails to work, she'll either stay silent or will express frustration (which can be seen with her replying "no" to Twisted Alice and not saying anything afterwards)
5. She seems to trust Allison enough to be vulnerable around her
After leaving the spider lair, she'll try to reach to Allison through the speakers
Tumblr media
- "Alice? Are... you there?... Alice!"
She'll acknowledge that she feels scared and after Allison won't sound reassuring enough, Audrey's hand will be visibly shaking.
Allison is the only character Audrey has opened to; you'll never see her being that vulnerable with anyone else
(She is honest with Henry but not on this level)
It makes me wish they had more interactions; Allison for sure was really important in early development of the game.
6. She's blunt
Through the game Audrey is a type of person who says whatever is on her mind without hiding her intentions too much.
She's emotional and rarely thinks twice (most of her decisions are impulsive or sometimes irrational) which reflects on the way she talks.
It's often slips out through sarcasm when she gets defensive/tries to cope but it's also happens in relatively safe environment (for example, when she talks with Betty):
- "Are you...very old?" (Wilson's mansion, bedroom)
This one liner is the most random question you can say to a stranger; I doubt it was very well thought out from her side
7. Audrey easily trusts people which makes her easy to manipulate
I couldn't skip this one.
When Wilson has created a story about his "poor lost father" as a bait and Audrey did believed in this, there are multiple reasons for "why"
This either could come from her being "goodhearted" or the circumstances being used against her
- She went through whole "father trauma" in one day without being able to process anything & get proper answers:
An idea of "saving" another father (Nathan Arch) who she could've knew more than her own father (Nathan says in one tape that he meet young animators at least once) could've hit her really close to home
- Audrey never actually got a real answer on how to leave the cycle, teaming up with Wilson (who was able to enter and leave) could've looked like the only one way back
(I do acknowledge that writing in DR could've been better at places but if you do think about it in this way,it makes sense)
7.1. She is empathetic
I think that this part says everything for itself and it doesn't need to be explained. Thought, she's the one who decide if someone deserves it.
- She felt bad for hurting Bendy on accident & apologized when she was able to
- When she met Allison for the last time, she "gave" her this name, remembering that she doesn't like to be called 'Alice'
- At the end of the game she wants to try to make the cycle better for everyone.
Twisted Alice (Susie) was included which means that Audrey doesn't hold grudges against her (even with the latest one wanting to kill her previously)
8. Audrey puts her arm through an ink container without hesitation or any side thoughts
Tumblr media
IT IS a game mechanic and lore wise you can relate it to her being an ink creature
But honestly? It's in character for Audrey.
We're talking about someone who decided to go to great lengths to catch an aquarium fish (that's kept as a pet) and wanted to use it...for a recipe.
8.1. She doesn't mind eating out of trashcans
Tumblr media
If you think that wanting to use someone's pet for a recipe is too weird, you're actually wrong. But eating out of trashcan (when you have other options) may be.
Thought, she drives a line on a food that has flies or other insects on it (like "chocolate cake")...i guess in other cases, it's fine to her.
~~~~~~~
Trivial things:
- Bendy seems to be her favourite cartoon character.
She calls him "little guy" in prologue and keeps close to her storyboards where he's the main character:
Tumblr media
In the cycle, she acts joyful when she first stumbles upon the real deal.
- She loves chocolate donuts
- Audrey uses dark eyeshadows (can be seen only in prologue custscene. It's hard to notice at first)
- Her breakfast from to-do list are toasts
- She has abstract Bendy painting in her office
- It can be speculated that she's uncomfortable with being touched (or with someone being physically close), unless, she's the one who initiates it
JHS- TWISTED FEELINGS (14)
Tumblr media
Summary: After working at an award show for 2 years everything had become normal, idols were no longer exciting to see, performances became dull and every day blended together, that was until an unexpected man asked for your help.
Warning: mentions of stalking
A/N: I started university im writing this on the train home after I woke up at 4 am (currently 7:30pm) I have had 2 hours sleep and I’m drained I literally forced this out of my brain sorry if it sucks. I appreciate you.
Ch.13 | MasterList | Ch.15
Tumblr media
It took three hours for them to pry the doors open and help lift you out. You weren’t completely at the 5th floor, you’d dropped between the 5th and the 4th so the gap to escape was small, you had caught your hip on the door leaving a nasty cut and you were sure that you had a few bruises but thankfully nothing too serious.
The on-hand medical team rushed to Hoseok and Yoongi first, both of whom escaped unharmed with a scratch or two to their hands. You were about to ask them to check you over when Yoongi was already whispering to Sejin, you had no doubt it was about the stalker when his eyes fell on you, a mix of both surprised and confused.
He called you over and you did your best to walk normally, your hip felt as though it was on fire but you ignored it. Of course, there were bigger issues than your measly injuries, regardless of how much they hurt.
“I think we should go to my office.” Sejin cleared his throat, eyeing both you and Yoongi before tutting and turning around his frame becoming further away as he walks away. Yoongi was closely behind him and you were dragging your feet as you followed the pair.
Even under the circumstances you rather liked Sejin's office, the little Knick knacks, plants, random signed albums and photographed achievements scattered around the room made it feel homely. The office was similar to the members’ personal studious just without the music equipment, there was a desk, a couch, and a table. Every room in the building seemed to be made for comfort, as though the staff were always there and needed a place to relax.
“So, Yoongi-ah has said there is a stalker. Please explain.” He sighs, rubbing his temples.
You wince a little as you shift your weight onto your other leg, a failed attempt at reducing the pain you felt over your side. You recounted the story, of how the stalking started, how it continued all up to this current point.
Sejin looked at you, as though analysing to determine the weight of your explanation before he huffed and pulled his glasses off, dropping them on the desk with a thud. “What am I supposed to do here YN? The second I bring this to the senior board they are going to want you out.”
“I know.” You swallowed the lump in your throat. “I don’t want to be the reason anyone gets put in danger. I understand that this is bigger than me and I’m okay wi-“
“Absolutely not.” Hoseok burst into the room, opening the door with a thud. “She’s just as much a victim here.”
“Yes but she’s currently the target, I can’t guarantee your safety if there’s a stalker walking around,” Sejin argued.
You understood where he was coming from, you truly did, but you were equally as thankful for Hoseok defending you. You hadn’t missed the way yoongis frown deepened when Sejin had mentioned letting you go.
It was comforting if nothing else.
“I can give you a good recommendation for another employer if that helps but I don’t see a way I can guarantee everyone’s safety.”
“Her contract protects her too.” Yoongi mumbled.
“What?” Hoseok asked, leaning over to hear better.
“She signed a contract, I’ve seen the employee contracts. She has just as much right to protection as any artists do, she didn’t exactly ask to be stalked.”
“Yoongi-ssi I understand what you’re saying but we also have clauses that allow us to terminate employment should it become an issue between artists and staff.”
“And it’s not an issue,” Hoseok spoke before you could even open your mouth.
Sejin sighed, leaning back in his seat. “What are you saying?”
“I'm saying that it’s not an issue. All the members will agree.” Hoseok was firm but you very much doubted that they would all agree on risking their privacy for you.
“If we were to all agree, could she keep her job?” Yoongi asked, shooting Hoseok a look you could t decipher.
Sejina frowned smoothed out. “I guess, if you all refuse another staff member I wouldn’t have much choice and neither would the board but I’d have to call a meeting and hear your opinions individually.”
“I don’t want to cause all this trouble.” You look between the three men in the room. “I understand and I’m not mad. I’ll accept the consequences and I want to make an apology to the rest of the members for hiding something that could have severely affected their lives.” You made to stand, too embarrassed to deal with the situation when a knock on the door stops you.
“Come in.” Sejin calls out. You recognise namjoons hair before you see his face. “Namjoon-ssi?”
“Hobi texted me. I thought as the leader I should be here.” He pressed his lips together, clearly unsure what to do.
“Take a seat Namjoon-ssi.” Sejin nods towards the set of empty chairs against the wall, Hoseok sits beside him. “Hoseok would like for you all to agree against us terminating our contract with YN.”
“Hoseok texted me the details, I just don’t agree with the idea of firing someone who has been an innocent party subjected to the very thing you hope to protect us from.” Finally, all the raving on Naver you’d seen about Namjoon being the best leader made sense, he carried himself well.
“So you and the other members are willing to accept the risks that come with keeping YN employed?” Sejin challenged.
“We aren’t accepting risks, we are accepting YN as a member of our staff and we are accepting that the company will deal with the risks without firing anyone.” Namjoon reaffirms.
You kept quiet, staring at a spot on the desk, unsure what to say or do. “Okay, I’ll talk to the board and call a meeting. Namjoon-ssi if you could call the others it would be a great help.”
Sejin leaves the room, hand in clutch, leaving you alone with the three members. You cleared your throat. “Thank you all for defending me but really I don’t want to put you all in danger.”
“You’re not putting us in danger if anything the company should have been protecting you better from the day you started working here.” Hoseok protests.
“I can’t thank you all enough.” You mustered as bright a smile as possible. “I will really be okay if the others don’t agree with it, this is more than enough.”
“Do you want to lose your job?” Yoongi asked, resting his chin on his hand.
“No, of course not Yoongi-ssi.” You shook your head, that was the last thing you wanted.
“Then accept the help, it’s fine. We enjoy working with you, especially Hoba and Jungkook.” Yoongi sighed.
You couldn’t help but look towards Hoseok, the man just giving you a small smile. “Okay, I’m grateful.” You smiled back.
“Why didn’t you tell anyone sooner?” Namjoon asked, pocketing his phone. You guessed he had just finished texting the others seeing as Sejin had asked him to contact them.
“I was scared. I didn’t want to burden anyone with it and I was scared someone would hurt my parents.” The words tasted bitter on your tongue, in all honesty, those worries were only amplified now the secret was out. Not to mention the pain in your hip making everything worse but of course, you couldn’t say anything about that no. Especially since everyone is already going above board to help you. “I’m sorry for hiding something that could have affected you.”
“What made you tell someone today?” Yoongi asked his time.
“I didn’t want to die in that elevator and my friend be hurt and my parents alone, unable to defend themselves, though I doubt whoever it is would continue to pursue my family if I was to die. They seem to want me away from you.”
“It wouldn’t be the craziest thing to happen.” Hoseok shrugged, the lack of surprise on their faces made you wonder just how badly they have been treated by supposed fans.
“Do you think they know where you live?” Hoseok mumbles.
“Yeah, they knew my parents’ address and that would have been harder to find than mine.” You had accepted it the second NaRae had told you about the photos. “It’s okay though.”
“Does your apartment have security?” Namjoon wonders.
You rub the back of your neck, chuckling. “Uh…no?”
“You’ll have to move then.” He sighs. “The company can help with that.”
“Oh no seriously, it's fine.” You reassured themed unable to exactly say you needed to live there due to the discounted rent.
“The company has helped house staff before. They have contracts with apartment buildings that ensure privacy and security. If one of us ever comes to your apartment no one will know. If it makes you feel better think that it’s more for our safety than yours and because you’re a staff member that we will be with continuously, especially since Nicole may be leaving.
You already knew whatever contracts they had were for apartments way out of your affordability range. “That’s a really kind offer but I can’t accept that.”
“Why?” Hoseok frowns. “That’s the only way it’s safe for all of us. Someone could break into your apartment and attack you. What if I dropped you to your apartment and someone followed me? They would know my address.”
You pursed your lips, sighing when you couldn’t think of a response. “I didn’t think about that. I just don’t think it will be possible to…” you trail off, not wanting to explain why.
“Is it about your dad?” Hoseok asks. “I can make sure it’s somewhere close, closer even, and a car can pick you up. It’s no different than the taxis you take every day.”
Although you felt happier at the idea of being closer to your parents, especially since your dad's heart attack, you wouldn’t be able to afford it. You’d rented the place through a friend, it wasn’t the most expensive because you’d been given a discount and in all honesty, it was a nice apartment. “It’s not so much that, the place I have now it’s good, it’s secure. I already have a lease.”
You could break your lease, it was non-conditional but they didn’t know that.
“I’ll pay for it to be broken.” Hoseok offered, earning a glaring look from Yoongi. “It’s not safe there, if money is the issue then I’ll help, the company will cover some.”
“Hoseok-ah maybe you’re overstepping.” Yoongi softened his tone.
“I can’t and won’t accept that.” You had never accepted financial help and you definitely weren’t about to. “I can make it work financially.” You lied.
“The company can help you break your lease, so don’t worry about that,” Namjoon reassured you, taking some weight off of your shoulders.
You’d make it work, even if it meant cutting back and getting a second job. Maybe you could tutor kids? You had a few things you could sell and you had a small portion of savings that you could direct to paying whatever rent you needed to cover. “Okay, I’ll do it.”
Hoseok broke out in a smile, one that almost made you forget how dangerous and stressful things were.
The door opened, and Sejin stepped inside. His hair was a little dishevelled as though he had been running his hands through it. “The board has agreed to have a meeting.” He looked towards Namjoon. “Did you manage to contact the other members?”
“Yes, Jungkook and Taehyung are just finishing up some vocal practice, Jimin is on his way and Seokjin Hyung is just finishing a life.” Namjoon recited.
“We can move this to a bigger room, a few board members want to weigh in. The security team too.” Sejin held the door open, an indication for everyone to leave. “It’s room 382.”
“I know where it is. I remember it from the meeting last week I’ll take us there.” Hoseok takes the lead, you fall behind the others trying not to limp as a dull pain throbs through your leg.
You had already ruled out taking an elevator for the rest of your life so you were both thankful and internally groaning when Hoseok led the way to the staircase, your hip not liking the idea of stairs very much.
Sejin and Hoseok were talking amongst themselves as they took their seats at the table, you lingered in the doorway before Hoseok pointed to the seat beside himself.
You felt awkward as people flocked into the room, firstly the members, someone you were sure was Bang PD and one of the heads of the security team. The members walked in one at a time, taehyung a few minutes behind jimin, Jungkook coming after Seokjin. They all settled down after a few hellos.
“Right, this is a little bit of a situation isn’t it?” The man at the head of the table laughed, you managed a small smile.
That was definitely Bang Si-Hyuk. “Once again I went to apologise for causing all this trouble.” You look between the faces at the table, wanting them to understand your sincerity.
“These things happen, it’s not something we cause ourselves. We have dealt with far worse so let’s not ponder on any more unnecessary apologies.” Bang Si-Hyuk spoke.
“We all agree that we want YN-ssi to keep her job despite the possible security risks,” Jungkook added.
Both Taehyung and Jimin nodded along with him in agreement, Seokjin however did not. “Are we sure about this?”
Everyone turned to him, Yoongi and Hoseok both looking thoroughly confused. “What do you mean Hyung?”
“YN-ssi hasn’t worked here long and although I’m sure some of you have formed friendships I’m sure they could be maintained outside of work but this is our entire career, our lives, our family's lives in danger of being exposed. Taehyung-ah, Namjoon-ah, do you really want your siblings to be exposed? There’s already images floating around of my parents and I don’t know if I can risk any more.”
Once again, you couldn’t find yourself angry or upset. You had a family to protect too.
“It won’t come to that.” The man from the security department intervened. Minhyung was his name, you were sure. “We have a few options for secured housing, we will be installing scanners into the public spaces in the building to detect photography. Whoever takes any pictures without consent from the other party will be called in for a meeting and from now on a designated car will take YN to and from work. We cannot do anything outside of this as we are still limited but anything work-related we can protect. Social media monitoring will be increased in anticipation of any backlash or further threats. Any private information that is leaked will be removed instantly. As the situation is only small scale we are able to prevent it from escalating.” He finishes with a smile to both you and Seokjin.
Thankfully, the singer seems pleased with this and agrees. “Okay, then I agree.”
“Great. We will have to Increase your personal security too for a while.”
There’s a series of groans from a few members.
“I know.” Bang Si-hyuk interrupts. “But it’s better to be safe than sorry so no outside dates, if you want to just inform the security team and they can coordinate something, no wandering alone in populated places, and keep any identifiable marks covered.” He lists.
“So you mean my tattoos?” Jungkook pouts. “I hate covering them.”
“I’m-“ you start but he holds up a hand.
“Don’t finish that, please. One time we had to be herded around in the middle of the night by security to another hotel because of someone.” He gives a pointed look at Jimin. “Leaked our hotel.”
“Hey, that’s not fair.” The other rolls his eyes. “It was a camera slip.”
“Tell that to hyungs dribble pillow.” Jungkook snickered.
Seokjin slapped the younger on the arm. “If you ever want me to make you any form of food ever again don’t ever bring that up.”
“Hey YN-ssi,” Taehyung called your attention. “Do you know about Seokjin Hyung's dribble pillow?”
You shook your head, teeth nibbling into your lip to stifle a laugh at the interaction between the group. “No, I haven’t.”
“Basically after Jiminie here leaked our hotel room security woke us at 1 am to move hotels but Seokjin Hyung hadn’t been sleeping and had a cold so he was breathing with his mouth open, he was so tired in the car he laid on Yoongi Hyung and literally soaked his shoulder in spit.” Taehyung laughed, instantly standing up to dodge the pillow Seokjin had thrown at him.
“That was private!” He huffs, slumping back in his chair. “Sorry, you have to witness this YN-so. They have no home training.”
“But…” Jungkook leaned forward. “…hyung you kind of like raised me when I moved from Busan so does that mean YOU have no home training?”
“Are we done here?” Seokjin asks Bang Si-Hyuk. Completely disregarding a laughing Jungkook.
“As long as you all agree to the security rules. YN-ssi I’ll need you to stay behind to discuss apartments with the security team. The rest of you are free to go.” He dismisses, settling in his seat.
“Are you going to be okay?” Hoseok called over to you.
You gave him a smile nodding, you felt better discussing apartments without the members there. Maybe then you could explain financially you had to be careful. “I’ll be okay, please go and do whatever you need to.”
“Find me after okay? I’d like to talk to you?” He asked.
“I will.” You smiled again, this time a little more real. It always made you feel good when people wanted to spend time with you, loneliness was an easy emotion to experience and it made you feel like less of a burden when someone asked you to spend time with them.
“Okay.” He accepted your promise, flocking out of the room behind the other members. All of them budding you with some sort of goodbye.
“So Yn-ssi. We have made a list of apartments all in different areas and price ranges. They are probably more than what you’re paying now but they are closer to your parents’ address. I hope you don’t mind we pulled it from the emergency contact that you listed on your employee details.” The security lead passed you a small packet of papers, each page containing information and images of different apartments.
You looked through it at bang PDs assurance that there was no rush. The rent on every apartment was over your budget but some were better than the others. It wouldn’t be as difficult as you presumed to cover it, you’d have to get another job but it would be manageable. You’d settled on a two-bedroom apartment, it was a huge upgrade from what you already had. The addition of 24-hour security and a front desk with a 24-hour attendant made you feel drastically better. You could always convince your parents to stay at yours now you had the spare room and if they didn’t want to then you were much closer to them and could see them daily.”
You informed the pair of your decision and Bang PD has explained that he would contact them and arrange for you to sign the papers in person within the week. Thankfully the meeting passed without any issue, wrapping up some minutes later after finalising some smaller details. “Thank you for going to such great lengths to keep me safe. I can’t explain how grateful I am but I promise to be an employee that works hard.” You bid them both goodbye, the meeting feeling far less formal and awkward than you had thought it would be.
Once you were away from the room you pulled out your phone texting Hoseok.
You: I finished the meeting. Where are you?
JHS: my studio, door is open. 😊
You pocketed your phone, thankfully remembering how to get to his studio from this floor of the building with there only being one flight of stairs between them.
The door was propped open by a small figurine, you pushed it open, a little taken aback to see Hoseok and Seokjin sitting on the small couch.
“Yn-ssi.” The eldest stood to greet you, a look of what could only be deciphered as a concern in his eyes.
“Seokjin-ssi.” You bowed back to him before turning to Hoseok. “Hoseok-ssi.”
“It’s still okay for you to be informal with me if you’re comfortable. I promise no one will be upset about it.” Hoseok reassures, clearly noticing the way you had been switching to a more formal conversation whenever others had been present.
In your defence, you did have a job to protect and unprofessionalism is never rewarded.
“Please don’t feel like you have to be uncomfortable because of me,” Seokjin interjects.
“Oh no of course not.” You rush to explain. “I just didn’t want anyone to feel as though I was being unprofessional.”
“Everyone here is pretty informal. The longer you’re here the more comfortable things feel so it feels weird to talk so formally after a while. Usually when cameras are on we maintain it but we have staff that’s been here since we made our debut and they have become like family.” Hoseok shrugs, taking the worry away from you slightly.
“Okay then, I’ll try to be less formal with you Hoseok-ssi.”
“Oppa.” he argued.
You hear seokjin stifle a laugh as he resumes his seat on the couch.
“Okay.” You smile.
“Okay?” Hoseok asks again.
“Yes.” You nod.
“Yes?” He questions, his voice higher towards the end.
“Yes oppa.” You laugh, finally giving in.
“Great.” He claps his hands. “Now.” He turns to Seokjin.
“Please sit.” He motions to the chair placed opposite the couch.
You accept the seat, sitting more so on your side to prevent weight from falling upon your hip. “Is everything okay?”
“I wanted to apologise. I just worry about the protection of those closest to me. I didn’t think about how you too were risking people you cared about by coming to the company and telling them.” Seokjin's voice holds a sincerity that throws you off guard.
“Please don’t apologise.” You start. “I have people to protect yes but you also deserve privacy and to be honest in that elevator I was scared not just for my parents and my friends but for you all. Although I’m sure if I did die it probably would have been forgotten.”
“Don’t say such things.” He scolded. “It was a selfish thought of me to ignore that you were stalked in favour of taking care of those I thought to be worth more. I can admit my mistakes YN-ssi. Please accept my apology.”
You hadn’t expected to be given such an apology when you yourself could completely understand just why he had questioned the idea initially. “It’s all forgiven, please don’t feel bad about this I completely understand.”
“You’re a good person.” Seokjin declares. Hoseok hummed in agreement.
“Thank you Seokjin-ssi.” You don’t truly believe his words but still, it’s nice to hear.
“So…” he leans back. “How are you feeling after the elevator thing this morning?”
You and Hoseok send a grimace to one another, a look of fear and dread that only you can understand, the frown on your face thanks to the new pain in your hip.
The week was only just coming to an end and it was already far too long.
Embarrassing Interviews of Famous Red Scenes
One: Red is a singer, Sans is the brother of the guy that Mettaton is platonically dating.
*AT AN AWARD VENUE, AFTER THE EVENT*
Interviewer: So, when are we going to hear a love song from the newest Golden Voice singer?
Red: *scowling* i don't fucking sing love songs, who do ya think i am?
Interviewer: Our audience will be disappointed, but as you've never sang a single love song, it does sound like you—
*Sans walks past as he talks to his brother, who is Mettaton's plus one*
*Red starts staring with wide sockets at somewhere off-camera.*
Red: *desperate expression* waitaminute, i didn't say i wasn't gonna change my mind, give me that fucking mic right now i'm gonna blast your ears with the best love songs ever okay wait—
———
Two: Red is a famous actor, and Sans is an actor who takes on small roles, like a shopkeeper, a janitor, a random employee, or a passerby. He's not well-known, but people keep seeing him, and he looks familiar, although they can't tell why.
*AT AN INTERVIEW EVENT*
Interviewer: We've seen you play as the main character and the true villain of the movie, but rumours have it that your next step is a rom-com show, is this true?
Red: *confused* who keeps saying stuff like that? i don't do rom-coms.
Interviewer: Does it relate to your previous interview with Mettaton, where you mentioned that you aren't in love, so you have no idea how to play those roles?
Red: yeah, i have no idea what love wou—
*Sans darts past while giggling, running away from his irrate manager and brother, Papyrus*
*Red's stunned.*
Red: *panicking, flustered, a whole mess* actually, never mind. i am so inspired to do rom-coms right the fuck now. where's my manager? hey, you! get that guy's name and – where does he work? hire a scriptwriter from the company to write our love story—i mean a rom-com story and while you're at it, grab him so i can ask him out—ask him about it and—
———
Three: Red is a superstar with lots of talent, Sans is also famous, but as a scientist. His brother is the manager of the famous Mettaton, who receives help from Sans if he needs repairs. Sans gets invited to places because Mettaton appreciates his help so much.
Interviewer: Is it true that you've never fallen in love before?
*AT A SUPERSTAR EVENT*
Red: why do you keep asking me stupid questions? why can't you ask me about how stupid my last movie was? i don't know where they hired the idiot who thought it was a good idea to write a quasar into the last scene, i mean do you even know how stupid it would be for a spaceship to be that close—
Interviewer: *almost crying, wants to keep the topic of love, understands nothing about science at all* So, you have never fallen in love before?
Red: dude, were you not listening at all? i haven't—
*Sans passes by with Mettaton. He recognises Red and stops to talk to him*
Sans: oh, hey. you're that monster captain guy, right? did you know that quasars produce so much light that your space alien team should have been blinded even if your spaceship was made of plot armour?
Red: *staring at the other skeleton with wide sockets* you science.
Sans: *blinks and notices the camera and interviewer* oh. oh, man, sorry, i just overheard—
Red: *sweating* nonono, it's okay. anyway, about quasars, did you see how they put a habitable planet next to a blue star?
Sans: *pained expression* don't remind me. i had to tell my brother it was impossible several times over the course of a month after that movie.
Red: hey, since you like space so much, how about you be a star and stay in mine? *dying expression*
Sans: *flustered* huh?
Red: what about being the center of my galaxy? *desperate and confused expression*
Sans: *sweating* u-um—
Red: i think that you're the core of my world because you make me warm inside. *horrified at the things he's saying*
Sans: *embarrassed* stars—
Red: speaking of stars, are you one? because you're lumino—mmpfff *Sans decides to block his mouth with his hands, blushing and staring at Red in flustered surprise.*
*Red's experiencing the sweet relief of being silenced after his embarrassing words*
Sans: buddy, enough—
Red: *muffled* but you're so pretty. *Red is dying inside, but he can’t stop his mouth*
Sans: *dying noise* ...okay, fine. i give up.
Interviewer: *whimpering, forgotten at the side* ...is that a no?
A3! Main Story: Part 4 - Act 13: Budding Spring - Episode 10: Forced Into The Starting Gate
Tumblr media
Itaru: (I should start getting ready to leave… Oh, right.)
Itaru: (Now that I have a rough idea of our performance schedule, I should apply for paid leave.)
Boss: Chigasaki-kun, can I borrow you for 15 minutes?
Itaru: — — Yes.
-
Boss: I believe this is everyone.
Itaru: (Everyone being me and a couple of my colleagues and… They’re only guys I don’t mesh with, huh.)
Boss: The reason I called you all here is to discuss whether you would be interested in participating in an urban development project that the company is currently promoting.
Boss: I may be asking you to participate, but the project is already in its final stages. What I would like from you is to provide support.
Itaru: (A large scale urban development project overseas? It’s the development of a theater facility that will become the center of arts and culture and its surroundings.)
Itaru: (I looked over the synopsis because it seemed interesting that it’s got to do with theater.)
Boss: Participation is not mandatory, of course, as this will run parallel with your current work.
Boss: That being said… There is a reason you were chosen.
Boss: As individuals who are considered the future of this company, I would like you to become core members of the next project.
Itaru: (Eight horses have entered the gate for the promotion race. The most popular one is Outgoing Ghost Monster, the one attracting attention is Rich AF Parents.)
Colleague A: I will do my best to meet your expectations.
Colleague B: I’ve been interested in this project for a long time, I would be honored to participate!
Itaru: (The gate has opened, and all horses have started running at the same time.)
Colleague C: Considering the progress of the work I am in charge of, I should be able to participate as well.
Itaru: I apologize… Could I ask for some time to think about this?
Itaru: (I would’ve probably participated if it wasn’t for this timing…)
Itaru: (Honestly, my head is filled with the theater company and the Fleur Award, I can’t fit anything new in there.)
Boss: … Ah, you also have your theater company to think about, Chigasaki-kun. Please make sure to consider your schedule.
Boss: Because this project’s theme has to do with the arts, the team members asked for you to be included as well.
Colleague A: …
Itaru: I’m grateful.
Boss: I will set up another opportunity to explain the training’s content and to introduce the team’s members, I’d appreciate your participation.
Itaru: Thank you very much.
[Door clicking]
Itaru: …
Colleague B: He can’t just think about it and then refuse.
Colleague C: Must be nice to be in a position where you can survive even if you quit your job.
Colleague A: It’s a popular theater company, and since they’re so well-know it’s probably hard for our company to deal with too.
Itaru: …
Itaru: (At least talk about this somewhere I can’t hear you.)
-
Chikage: I’m really sorry, I’ve got my hands full at the moment.
Employee A: Is that so? I apologize for springing this on you so suddenly.
Chikage: Feel free to let me know any time I can be of help.
Chikage: …
Itaru: Should we go somewhere good, Senpai?
Chikage: … I don’t even want to guess what that is, but let’s hear it.
Itaru: What’s that supposed to mean?
Chikage: *sigh* You don’t give me much of a choice. I’ll keep you some company.
-
[Punching sfx]
Itaru: Delivering a crit and then a hook combo, aaaand KO! Ah, this really is the best way to go at it.
Chikage: You’re not hiding your true feelings at all.
Itaru: *siiigh* I really hate this. Only those who want to participate in the race for career advancement should enter the gates.
Itaru: And anyway, you should just quit if you don’t wanna do it. Directing that hatred towards me is just wrong.
Itaru: Being a level between a noob and a mid-ranker is so lame. You don’t have as many rights as a mid-ranker does.
Chikage: Not that there are a lot of middle level players around.
Itaru: I understand that the company has high expectations for the “elite Chigasaki-san”. That’s why they hired me after I graduated and diligently raised me like cattle.
Itaru: I make use of my physical appearance and do everything half-heartedly, but I can understand how desperate my colleagues are to advance their careers.
Itaru: From their perspective, someone who has several irons in the fire and talks flippantly is probably really annoying.
Itaru: And a triple combo finisher— But still, I’m trying to figure out where I stand, so I wish they’d let me be.
Itaru: Must be nice for you, Senpai, you travel overseas and advance your career in a non-complicated way.
Itaru: The criticism you receive probably isn’t that harsh, either.
Itaru: Me on the other hand, I’m stuck being the “capable guy” who does decent local work.
Itaru: At the end of the day, I’m just a handyman.
Itaru: Even if I’m treated favorably, it’s not like I’m being lax with my work. I may not be motivated, but I want to believe I’m doing everything I’m supposed to.
Chikage: Neither your mouth nor your hands seem to be letting up.
Itaru: I wonder what I should be aiming for to begin with.
Itaru: Should I become a corporate slave like you, and aim for a high place where no one will complain about me, or should I reach a position that will scream “Itaru Chigasaki”?
Chikage: Sounds like a conversation you should be having with your father. (1)
Chikage: Shouldn’t you think about what you want to do first?
Itaru: What I’m aiming for… Well, I guess I want to maintain the status quo, so I won’t get criticized as often. No. I want to retire as early as possible with passive income…?
Chikage: Stop spending in gacha and start investing.
Itaru: That’s asking for too much.
Itaru: … I chose this job because of its benefits, and got it out of luck, I’m not really looking to advance my career.
Itaru: Our theater company is somehow made up of people who mostly engage in two trades at the same time, but they all have a dream and enjoy what they do.
Itaru: Compared to them, my job is just a source of income. Sometimes, I feel like I don’t have much to give back to the theater company.
Itaru: Even though right now is an important time for the Spring Troupe, I’ve found myself caught up in the promotion horse race with my coworkers talking behind my back.
Chikage: In your case, your hobby is more useful to the theater company.
Itaru: ^ This. Honestly, I keep wondering whether I’ve got any reason to keep working as a salaryman, but I don’t have the courage or confidence to focus solely on acting.
Itaru: I wanna have some sort of insurance, so to speak.
Itaru: *sigh*~ To think I’d have such student-like worries at my big age… Do you never think about such things, Senpai?
Chikage: Well… My job’s got various merits, you know.
Itaru: Various merits?
Chikage: Various merits.
Itaru: I see? Looks like you won’t elaborate.
Chikage: No matter where you work, there are times you’ll be praised and times you’ll be criticized. And it’s not just you.
Chikage: It’s the same for me too, depending on who’s looking at me. I think I’m satisfied with having my theater activities praised.
Itaru: But if we’re actually nominated for the Fleur Award this time, it’ll be difficult to get the company to accommodate for you.
Chikage: The company evaluates your performance, after all. If you can’t contribute in improving the company’s image, you’ll be told to focus on your work.
Chikage: That being said, this doesn’t change the fact that we need to bring good results during our next performance.
Itaru: That’s true… Okay, Winner! *exhale*, I think a load’s off my shoulders.
Itaru: Oh, yeah. Weren’t you also asked to take care of something, Senpai?
Chikage: Ah… I was asked to accompany a client to an overseas meeting as their interpreter, but I declined because I don’t have the time for it.
Itaru: Guess cheaters have it hard too. Though there’s gotta be people who are jealous of the fact that you can go sightseeing as an interpreter.
Chikage: I mean, it’s not a country I really want to go to.
Itaru: But you understand its language.
Chikage: Guess so.
Itaru: Okay, we get it, you’re cheating.
NOTES:
(1) the actual exchange here involves itaru making a joke with his name (『茅ヶ崎至』に至; "chigasaki itaru" ni itaru), and chikage replying with 'you've got both dad jokes and undodgeable attacks'. i had to entirely drop this and let it get lost in translation because i couldn't come up with a dad joke
(2) the literal translation for the episode title is 'forced gate-in', but because i wasn't sure this term is actually used in english, i decided to change it
