And we're back, baby!
6.1: How Dare Solarpunks Do OUTRAGE?!!! Ariel & Christina Discuss
Now streaming: some hot takes from your solarpunk aunties. Ariel and Christina consider why wallowing in negative feelings is just so delicious ... as opposed to wallowing in, you know, acts of kindness and feelings of compassion, which are just a bit more solarpunk. We live in an age of outrage, it seems: cancelling, social media mobbing, cyberbullying ... but also drawing attention to human rights violations, or dodgy political happenings, or just straight-up illegal goings-on! How can we tell whether our outrage is justified or not? How can we avoid emotional manipulation? Can we think of outrage as a solarpunk tool?

Cuil Fiction vs The Cuilverse
Cuil fiction plays with reality, allowing for blends of elements never before crosssed, yet entangling for the goal of ultimate beauty. It features – usually foul-mouthed yet highly educated (whether formal or autodidactic) – freaks n geeks in reality-shifting situations. It’s science fantasy where people fight the monstrous within themselves as much as without. This makes each character you…

Picturebook Review: Big Boys Cry
Big Boys Cry // Jonty Howley // Random House // 2019
Ages: 3-7
Summary: Big Boys Cry follows young Levi as he walks to his first day at school. Despite hearing from his father that big boys don’t cry, Levi meets all sorts of grown men shedding tears as he passes through town. When he returns home after school, he is able to share this lesson with his father.
Tumblr media
Review: Among the strengths of Big Boys Cry are its illustrations/visual elements. The endpapers, for example, are creatively used to complement the theme: the front endpapers feature stylized tissue boxes, and the back endpapers feature the same boxes now empty, with a hand reaching to grasp the last tissue. These images parallel the journey of Levi, who begins the book being taught not to cry and ends the book having learned that tears are a healthy form of emotional expression.
The book has an appropriately nuanced understanding of the emotional life of boys, particularly the struggle of experiencing big emotions alongside the pressure not to have them. This nuance is displayed not only through Levi, who learns that all types of men and boys cry, but also through his father, who tells his son not to cry, but who we come to find out is also struggling with how to deal with his own feelings around his son’s independence.
Tumblr media
One weakness of the book is the simplicity of its text, which leaves some gaps in the narrative. The illustrations and text display a rich and diverse group of men crying for a wide variety of reasons, then ends with the phrase “Big boys were crying everywhere!” One might be left unclear on whether this was hyperbole for the sake of the message, or a particularly emotional day in Levi’s town. There were similar gaps in the resolution of the book, which was happy but brief, and could have been strengthened by slightly more elaboration or reconciliation. This would have both reinforced the message of the book that it’s okay for boys to have, and talk about, feelings, and supplied more narrative depth to the slightly didactic text.
Uses: Big Boys Cry could be used to teach emotional literacy to any children, or as bibliotherapy for children processing big emotions, especially boys. It would also fit in well at a themed storytime on feelings, or at a certain time of year, like back-to-school or father’s day.
Read-alikes:
Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall (Candlewick Press // 2017) follows a young boy who who learns to jump off the high dive for the first time, with the help of his dad. Like Big Boys Cry, this book has strong illustrations, and features both a father-son relationship and fear of new things.
How to Be a Lion by Ed Vere (Doubleday Books // 2018) is a contemporary take on the classic picturebook The Story of Ferdinand. Here, a peace-loving lion learns to confront the pressures of lionhood, with the help of a duck friend. How to Be a Lion is beautifully illustrated picturebook that, like Big Boys Cry, subverts the traditional expectations of boyhood, though this time more metaphorically.
The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson and Rafael López (Nancy Paulsen Books // 2018) explores many fears that children may have on their first day of school, particularly around being different in a multi-cultural context. Like Big Boys Cry, The Day You Begin is about first day fear, but it delves much more deeply into the particulars of those fears.

You are the author of your story. It is easy to get yourself stuck by saying: “It's not my fault” “Someone else made me feel this way” At the end of the day YOU are in charge of your life. Your reality is not shaped by what others do to you. Your reality is shaped by how YOU choose to act and feel in response to events. . . . . . . #birdswords #dailyquoted #quotedesign #quotediary #affirmationart #affirming #healthadvocate #goodvibestoday #affirmationdeck #healyourselfhealtheworld #mindfulnesss #emotionalliteracy #empowermen #empoweryou #empowerment #confidencetips #confidenceiscontagious #mentalgrowth #healthyideas #selfconfident #simplereminders https://www.instagram.com/p/Cah_8PZOMEc/?utm_medium=tumblr

Name the Emotions/Facial Expression. Test of #EmotionalLiteracy 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Tips - Emotions are usually described with one word. If you can name it, you can tame/manage it. Emotions are data. Emotional Intelligence is a fast growing skills that impacts our daily life in areas of DECISION MAKING, RELATIONSHIP, EFFECTIVENESS, QUALITY OF LIFE & WELL-BEING, FOCUS AND DRIVE. You can avail yourself with the right tools and resources by attending our fourth coming program, Emotional Intelligence Certified Professional (EICP). For details of the program visit pausefactory.org/eicp or call 08096303933. If you have watched The Return of The King of Boys you can tell that emotions and thoughts were put to play by every actor in the movie and specifically the lead actor Sola Sobowale. To make a distinction here Eniola ( young looking one) played a role we call the thoughts of Eniola (Sola Sobowale). The thoughts are loud and was Sola Sobowale displaying emotional intelligence, by taking a pause ⏯️ to process her feelings (emotions) and thoughts (depicted by Eniola's act) before she make a decision. Consiquentially thinking was applied by her as well as frequently navigating the emotions spur by her thought. Lastly, we leave you with the opinion either her goal was noble or not. #KOBNetflix #EmotionalIntelligence @solasobowale #Emotions @mofedamijo #NameTheFeeling #KOBTheReturnOfTheKing @kingofboysmovie #Empathy @naijaonnetflix @netflix #KOBArmy @titikuti_ @iamtonitones @illblissgoetti @denolagrey @abaya_lagos@kemiadetiba https://www.instagram.com/p/CTodwhIDApc/?utm_medium=tumblr

This app, Aro Eros Arrows, is an outgrowth of the content in the book of the same name, Aro Eros Arrows, in the Intersectional/Integrated Non-Monogamy book series. Yet it goes much further, allowing members to form communities of care, find kink partners, intimate friends, cuil mates, noetikin, and/or queerplatonic partners online and in meatspace, and is the only lgbtqia2s+ AND non-monogamous/polyamorous AND disability AND neurodivergence AND autistic inclusive, trauma-informed, and Black and indigenous-centered app ever. Not only will you be able to connect with people locally, but you will be matched by your values and your actual desires for a particular kind of relationship rooted in trust. Romance is not the focus for once, and while alloromantic and allosexual people may be welcome, the app actually provides education about friendships, relationships, and partnerships with asexual and aromantic people, plus every user must have a certain level of emotional literacy in order to contact other folks for intimate friendships. In the event that they don't demonstrate a safe and aware level of emotional literacy, they can actually sit and develop it through related services and even right from the app itself! What other dating app actually encourages you to become a better partner? That considers accessibility from the ground up? That goes over safer sex beyond mere condoms and testing, but communication and abuse culture? That actually has a space for aromantic people? That considers racism and ableism and actually adjusts for that? None that I know of. https://drove.com/.MVi #disabilities #accessibilityisarequirement #actuallyautistic #MichónCon #aromantic #polyamory #asexual #lgbtqia2s #relationships #amatonormativity #BlackBooksMatter #BlaQueer #intersectionalnonmonogamy #emotionalliteracy #AroErosArrows #communitiesofcare #actuallyautistic #queerplatonicpartner https://www.instagram.com/p/BrHTmGNlxQj/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1kryvz7zik3ay

"Fairies have to be one thing or the other, because being so small they unfortunately have room for one feeling only at a time." (J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan) . . Humans, on the other hand, are complicated, complex brings and we almost always hold multiple, sometimes completely opposite emotions in our hearts and minds. It is ok and very normal to be excited about one thing in your life, and heartbroken about another, and so on and so on, and recognizing that and respecting our own emotions and those of others is a skill worth developing. #beyourbestself #authenticliving #emotionalintelligence #emotionalliteracy #tothineownselfbetrue #HappinessIsCourage #ChiefHappinessOfficer #LifeCoachesofInstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CDLC9SQDfwB/?igshid=u5zep6tx13og

There is a poem by the 13th century Persian poet, Rumi, called "The Guest House" that has always touched me deeply.   # It has offered me comfort and perspective throughout my adult life, and I found myself coming back to it recently when I was feeling deep in sorrow, in fear, and feeling extra lonely.   This episode is a personal look at my most recent unexpected swing down into some tough emotional terrain.  It's also an invitation to look at how emotions can cycle through us as humans, and how we might be able to loosen any judgements we might attach to them as we experience them.   # Listen at link in bio - www.thisnakedvoice.com # Original photo by @tobias.bjorkli # #rumipoetry #theguesthouse #emotionalliteracy #vulnerabilitypodcast #emotionalcycles #rumipoem #emotionalcycle #unexpectedguest #wavesofemotions #reachoutandconnect #releasejudgement https://www.instagram.com/p/CBv_-B6FNMT/?igshid=12ghrlhj68oo8
