This image of M42 was shot with a QHY294C with a uv-ir cut filter on the objective, will likely reprocess it when i capture more exposures in dark skies when its high up again, current integration time is 75minutes. Was pleasantly surprised when the dust medium enrobing M42 was visible. #m42 #messier42 #runningmannebula #orionnebula #qhy294 #qhyccd #cem25p #astrophotography #nebula #nebulae #deepskyobject #emissionnebula https://www.instagram.com/p/BxY1PZnlxb3/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=17edchzb4vmls

Sharpless 101: the Cosmic Tulip Sharpless 101 is a H II region emission nebula located in the constellation Cygnus. It is popularly called the Tulip Nebula because it appears to resemble the outline of a tulip when imaged photographically. It was catalogued by astronomer Stewart Sharpless as Sh2-101 in his 1959 catalog of nebulae. It lies at a distance of about 6,000 light-years from Earth. Sh2-101, at least in the field seen from earth, is in close proximity to microquasar Cygnus X-1, site of one of the first suspected black holes. Cygnus X-1 belongs to a high-mass X-ray binary system, located about 6,070 light years from the Sun, that includes a blue supergiant variable star designated HDE 226868 which it orbits at about 0.2 AU, or 20% of the distance from the Earth to the Sun In the image below, red, green, and blue hues map emission from ionized sulfur, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms. Ultraviolet radiation from young, energetic stars at the edge of the Cygnus OB3 association, including O star HDE 227018, ionizes the atoms and powers the visible light emission from the Tulip Nebula. HDE 227018 is the bright star very near the blue arc at the center of the cosmic tulip. ► Image source>> https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap161020.html Image Credit & Copyright: Martin Pugh Further reading and references ► Cygnus (constellation)>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cygnus_(constellation) ► OB associations>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stellar_kinematics#OB_associations ► Cygnus X-1>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cygnus_X-1 ► H II region>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H_II_region ► Sh2-101>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sh2-101 ► Emission Nebula>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emission_nebula #Universe, #TulipNebula, #CygnusConstellation, #EmissionNebula

Happy #Caturday! For your viewing pleasure, here is a lovely photo of NGC 6334, also known as the Cat's Paw Nebula! NGC 6334 is an emission nebula and star-forming region located 5,500 light years from Earth in the constellation Scorpius. It was discovered by astronomer John Herschel in 1837, who observed it from the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. Alternatively known as the Bear Claw Nebula, stars nearly ten times the mass of our Sun have been born there in only the past few million years. . The Messier Catalogue are a set of over 100 astronomical objects first listed by French astronomer Charles Messier in 1771. Messier was a comet hunter, and was frustrated by objects which resembled but were not comets, so he compiled a list of them, in collaboration with his assistant Pierre Méchain, to avoid wasting time on them. The number of objects in the catalog reached 103 during his lifetime but a few more thought to have been observed by Messier have been added by other astronomers over the years. The Messier catalogue comprises nearly all the most spectacular examples of the five types of deep sky object – diffuse nebulae, planetary nebulae, open clusters, globular clusters and galaxies. Since these objects can be observed visually, they are among the brightest and therefore most attractive observable even from large cities. Today's Messier object is M 8, an emission nebula and a starbirth site in the constellation of Sagittarius (the archer). Here's a gorgeous image of what is known as #SoulNebula, #EmbryoNebula, or #IC1848. This #EmissionNebula is located 6,500 light years away from Earth. These areas were carved out by radiation and winds from the regions most massive stars. This is actually the best evidence for a theory called trigger star formation. It's when the carving of these cavities pushes gasses together to form / ignite stars. #astronomy #astrophotography #nebula

The Flame, IC434 and Horsehead Nebula (NGC 2024 and B 33) are nebulas located in the constellation of Orion. The Flame Nebula is an emission nebula that lies some 900 to 1,500 light years away. One of the bright stars in the belt of orion, Alnitak can be seen separating the Flame Nebula, IC 434 and Horsehead Nebula. It is a hot blue supergiant with a visual magnitude of 2.0, making it visible with naked eyes even in bright urban areas. The Flame Nebula is energised by the strong ultraviolet light from Alnitak and glows as a result of the electrons and ionised hydrogen recombination. IC 434 is a bright emission nebula in which the notable Horsehead Nebula is silhouetted against. The Horsehead Nebula is a dark nebula that lies some 1,500 light years away and is quite identifiable due to its iconic horsehead like structure. Dark nebulae are interstellar clouds that is so dense such that it obscures the light from objects behind it. Important events such as the formation of stars takes place within it. This is shot in Singapore with a Sony a7ii and an STC Astro-Duo Narrowband Filter. Approximately 2.33 hours integration, stacked with 300s exposures.

This is a project that is a work in progress. It was taken in relative dark skies compared to Singapore as a single frame test before the skies deteriorated. A 10 minutes exposure of the skies at Cygnus, NGC 7000, the North America Nebula, a faint nebula with a small portion of the Pelican Nebula. NGC 7000 resembles the continent of North America. Although it is large, covering an area more than four times the size of the full moon, its surface brightness is low and usually cannot be seen with the naked eye. NGC6334, the Cat’s Paw Nebula, also known as the Bear’s Claw Nebula is an emission nebula found in Scorpius. It is approximately 50 light years across and is some 5,500 light years away from us. It is one of the nearest H-II regions to the solar system. Its known as the cat’s paw as it resembles a gigantic version of one and is a vast and very active stellar nursery. Studies by researchers from the Harvard-Smithsonian Centre for Astrophysics released in 2013 suggests its undergoing a stellar version of the baby boom, a period of rapid star formation. In the corner is a partial view of NGC 6357, the War and Peace Nebula or Lobster Nebula it also lies some 5,500 light years away from us.
