A revisit of Cat’s Paw Nebula NGC6334, this time with a smaller fov with the qhy294c camera. This is one of my favourite objects in the night sky because it looks like a cat’s paw 🐾, hence the popular name of Cat’s Paw Nebula. Located in Scorpius right next to the stinger in the asterism of Scorpius, it makes it easy to locate with a telescope. it is an emission nebula that is about 50 light years across and lies some 5,500 light years away from us and is one of the nearest H II region to the solar system.

Happy #Caturday! For your viewing pleasure, here is a lovely photo of NGC 6334, also known as the Cat's Paw Nebula! NGC 6334 is an emission nebula and star-forming region located 5,500 light years from Earth in the constellation Scorpius. It was discovered by astronomer John Herschel in 1837, who observed it from the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. Alternatively known as the Bear Claw Nebula, stars nearly ten times the mass of our Sun have been born there in only the past few million years. . NGC6334, the Cat’s Paw Nebula, also known as the Bear’s Claw Nebula is an emission nebula found in Scorpius. It is approximately 50 light years across and is some 5,500 light years away from us. It is one of the nearest H-II regions to the solar system. Its known as the cat’s paw as it resembles a gigantic version of one and is a vast and very active stellar nursery. Studies by researchers from the Harvard-Smithsonian Centre for Astrophysics released in 2013 suggests its undergoing a stellar version of the baby boom, a period of rapid star formation. In the corner is a partial view of NGC 6357, the War and Peace Nebula or Lobster Nebula it also lies some 5,500 light years away from us. Hope you didn't forget your costume; even our universe gets dressed up! _____ Spirits are lurking everywhere tonight; especially in the The Ghost Nebula (designated Sh2-136 and VdB 141), a reflection nebula located in the constellation Cepheus, as well as the Little Ghost Nebula, a planetary nebula in the constellation Ophiuchus. _____ What would Halloween be without a few skeletons? The Skull Nebula (NGC 246) is a planetary nebula roughly 1,600 light-years away in the constellation Cetus. _____ Be sure to look out for witches in the night sky! The Witch Head Nebula (IC 2118) is an extremely faint reflection nebula believed to be an ancient supernova remnant or gas cloud illuminated by nearby supergiant star Rigel in Orion. It lies in the Eridanus constellation, about 900 light-years from Earth. _____ And which witch would be without her cat? The Cat's Paw Nebula (NGC 6334) is an emission nebula and star-forming region located in the constellation Scorpius. Happy Halloween!
