Protégé à Jamais
Aaron feels his blood boil, fury flooding his veins at the way the man in front of him dared to talk about the woman he loves.
-x-
Hi friends,
Not entirely sure where this one came from. I was driving to the grocery store this morning and some of the dialogue for this came into my head and here we are!
Hope you enjoy and please let me know what you think <3

Emily had never been so happy.
She sighs contentedly as she leans into her fiance’s side, smiling as he pulls her even closer, his thumb rubbing back and forth on her hip through the material of her dress.
“Are you okay sweetheart?” Aaron asks, his smile soft as he looks at her. She’s almost eye level with him because of her heels and she takes advantage of it, nodding as she leans in to stamp her lips against his.
She hums as she pulls back, “I’m more than okay,” she says, kissing him again, smiling as she hears Derek groan and she makes a point of leaning further into the kiss, her hand coming up to cup Aaron’s cheek as she holds him in place as she licks her tongue through his mouth.
“Oh god Princess, we get it,” Derek says, shaking his head as he takes a sip of his beer, “You two love each other.”
“I think I preferred it when they used to pretend they weren’t in love with each other,” Dave grumbles jokingly, winking at Emily as she finally pulls back from Aaron, her hand dropping down to his chest, “They may have been annoying, but at least we didn’t have to watch them make out.”
Emily rolls her eyes at him, “Well excuse me for kissing my fiance at my engagement party.”
Party was a strong word and she knew it. They were out for a few drinks on a Thursday evening to celebrate her and Aaron’s recent engagement. She knew her actual engagement party would be something her mother insisted on throwing for them, an event full of dignitaries and people her mother considered important. This was the celebration she’d actually enjoy and she was going to make the most of it.
Aaron chuckles and runs his hand up and down her side, rubbing the soft green material of her dress between his fingers as he presses a kiss to her cheek, “Our engagement party, sweetheart.”
She shrugs playfully and winks at him before she finishes her beer, “Yes, baby. Our engagement party,” she kisses him again, “I need another drink.”
He smiles and kisses her cheek before he pulls away, “I’ll go get you one, I’ll be right back.”
She watches him go, her eyes fixed on his ass as he walks towards the bar. She groans as he gets there and as she sees him standing next to Agent Clark and Agent Lewis, “What are those creeps doing here?”
They were both idiots. She’d never particularly liked either of them, but made polite small talk with them in the kitchen or the elevator if she saw them. Clark would often flirt with her and had asked her out on a date more than once, although that had stopped at least since she came back from Paris.
“Garcia invited everyone,” Spencer says, and Emily smiles as she looks at Penelope and she avoids eye contact, “The email went out to the entirety of Quantico.”
“And those two have never turned down a free drink,” Dave says, seemingly regretting for the first time all evening putting his card behind the bar, “They are usually harmless enough,” he says, raising an eyebrow at Penelope.
“You guys are getting married, that should be celebrated!” Penelope exclaims, her gaze shifting to Emily who chuckles.
“Trust me Pen, Aaron and I have done plenty of celebrating by ourselves,” she says, her chuckle turning into a full laugh at the looks of horror that sweep across Derek and Dave’s faces.
JJ joins in and shakes her head, sympathetically patting Derek on the back, “You know if you stop reacting she’ll stop telling you about their sex life.”
“I think it’s sweet,” Penelope says, taking a sip from her cocktail, “Especially because I’d like another BAU baby to spoil soon.”
Emily chokes on a laugh and shakes her head at her friend as she purposely ignores the treacherous hope that rolls through her chest. She and Aaron had decided to start trying recently, just a few weeks before he proposed, and she’d thrown away her birth control. She didn’t want anyone else to know yet, wanted to keep it as something just between her and Aaron, but she was excited — the thought of adding to their family enough to make her giddy.
Her response is cut off by someone shouting at the bar and she looks back over, her eyes going wide as she spots Aaron standing close to Agent Clark, his fist clenched by his side as Clark cupped his nose, blood dripping down through his clasped fingers. Her eyes drift down to Aaron’s knuckles as she steps closer, and she sees how red they are. His skin was sure to bruise over old scars she knew as well as her own.
She scoffs as she steps closer, confusion driving her closer as he looks at her, his eyes wide as if he isn’t sure what he’s done himself.
“Aaron, what the hell is going on?”
___
They don’t get a chance to talk about it.
At first, it’s because he won’t. Whatever had driven him to punching a fellow agent was something he was keeping to himself, a subtle shake of his head during all of the commotion in the bar all she needed to know he wasn’t ready to talk yet. It was an unspoken rule that they didn’t push each other until they were ready, so as much as she wanted to know what was wrong she takes a step back.
The moment they get home, Jack is on them, asking lots of questions about their night and hugging them tightly as if it had been days since he’d last seen them, not hours. The little boy blatantly disregarding his bedtime just to see them, something Jessica apologises for as she leaves. He insists that Emily is the one to put him to bed, a distraction she’s grateful for as she reads him two stories before he falls asleep against her, his hand tangled in her hair.
Despite everything in her that was screaming to go check on Aaron, to go slide into his lap where he had hidden himself in the home office, she still gives him the space she knows he needs. She gets ready for bed and slips under the covers, eventually falling asleep with her hand pressed against his pillow.
When she wakes up in the morning she’s alone.
She knows he had joined her at some point, can feel the warmth that only came with him surrounding her and permeating into the sheets on his side of the bed. She frowns as she sits up and spots a folded piece of paper on his pillow and she picks it up, smiling sadly as she reads his familiar writing.
Gone to work early, I’ve left you coffee in the pot and sorted breakfast for you and Jack.
She sighs and gets out of bed, putting aside her concern for the man she loves as she steps out into the hallway and almost trips over Jack, the little boy already awake and excited about going to school. By the time she gets to the office she feels anxious, a deep pit in her stomach as she places her bag on her desk, her teeth sinking into her lower lip as she looks up at her fiance’s office.
“You ok there, Bella?”
She jumps and places her hand on her chest as she turns to look at Dave. She shakes her head at him and huffs out a breath, “Jesus Christ, Dave. We need to get you a bell or something.”
He smiles at her and holds his hand up in an apology, “Sorry, I didn’t think it was possible to sneak up on someone who used to be a spy.”
She hums and looks back at Aaron’s office, “I guess I’m distracted,” she sighs and turns to look at her friend, “He punched someone, Dave. And not just anyone, another agent. He could get in serious trouble over that,” she says, twisting her engagement ring around her finger, a habit that had replaced her previous one of biting her cuticles, “It’s not like him.”
Dave nods in agreement, “It’s not, but I’d say the guy deserved it, don’t you?”
She frowns and tilts her head at him, “Wait, do you know what happened?”
He hesitates for a moment, his eyes flicking up to Aaron’s office, “I may have spoken to Lewis last night, and got his side of what went down between Aaron and Clark.”
She stares at him, expecting him to carry on, and when he doesn’t she asks, “What did he say?”
Dave sighs and forces his hands into his pockets, “If he hasn’t told you I don’t know if I should-”
“Dave,” she says firmly, cutting him off, “Tell me what he said.”
He maintains eye contact with her for a second before he nods, clearing his throat before he tells her what he knows.
___
Aaron’s smile fades as he approaches the bar, internally groaning when he sees Agent Clark and Agent Lewis standing there.
“Clark,” he says, nodding politely as he stands next to them, “Lewis.”
Lewis nods in return, but Clark turns to look at him, the smell of whiskey flowing off of him like a cologne as he smiles widely as if they were old friends.
“Congrats on the engagement, Hotchner,” Agent Clark says, his words slurring together slightly as he tips his beer towards Aaron. Clark was not a good man, and certainly not an agent Aaron would ever want on his team. He had applied to join the BAU more than once but had always been denied, his attitude and work ethic well known throughout the FBI.
“Thanks, Clark,” Aaron says, smiling politely as he indicates to the bartender that he wants two more beers. He smiles as he hears Emily laugh from behind him, the irritation he’d felt building for the man standing next to him immediately fading.
“Prentiss has always been a catch,” Clark says, shaking his head as he places his beer back down, “You’re a better man than I am though, I don’t think I could do it.”
Aaron freezes, his body briefly tense as he turns ever so slightly to face the other man, already asking a question he isn’t sure he wants the answer to before he can stop himself. “What is that supposed to mean?”
Clark doesn’t pick up on his tone, nor does he pay any attention to Agent Lewis on his other side who was attempting to stop him from saying anything else. His hand on his friend’s shoulder as he tries to lead him away, Aaron’s well-known glare getting through to him.
“Well,” Clark says, shrugging, his hand slipping off the bar as he steps closer, “You wouldn’t buy a car that already has damage to the bodywork would you?” He says, smirking as he chuckles at what he’s said.
Aaron feels his blood boil, fury flooding his veins at the way the man in front of him dared to talk about the woman he loves. He clenches his fists at his sides, his short nails digging into his palm as he tries to distract himself, the dull pain in an attempt to pull himself back from the edge. Anger he’d inherited from his father bubbling in his belly, burning up his chest and turning bitter on his tongue.
“What did you just say?” He asks, the words forced out through his teeth as he fixes his hard glare on him.
“We should go-” Lewis starts, but Clark interrupts him, cutting him off as he pats Aaron on the shoulder as if they were old friends, as if they were exchanging shop talk rather than talking about his fiance.
“Come on Hotchner,” he says, chuckling again, “We all know what Doyle did to her. She’s always had an incredible figure, but it must be a mess under that dress,” he says, nodding towards Emily, “Sometimes it’s best never to unwrap a gift if you know what I mean.”
Aaron sees red, and anger he hasn’t felt in years, since he’d seen Foyet in the home he’d once shared with Haley, overtakes him. Any attempt to stop himself from reacting disappears. It happens in slow motion. He doesn’t feel like he’s in control of his body, as if he’s watching himself as he punches Clark, the feeling of his knuckles connecting with the other man's face spreading throughout his hand.
Everything speeds back up again as he pulls his hand back, the quiet in the bar almost deafening as it feels like everyone turns to look at them. Clark’s cursing and the way he cries out in pain as he cups his bleeding nose barely registering as he turns to look at Emily, guilt and shame filling his lungs as she furrows her brows at him, any enjoyment she’d found in the evening long gone.
“Aaron, what the hell is going on?”
___
She closes her eyes as Dave finishes and she shakes her head, love and a flicker of irritation aimed at her finace blooming in her chest.
“Lewis told you all of that?” She asks as she opens her eyes and looks at Dave, smiling sadly when she sees his anger at the way she’d been spoken about painted across his face as he nods, “Maybe he can be a witness if this goes to some kind of committee hearing.”
“He did,” he replies, “I don’t think Clark will be taking this up with anyone.”
She tilts her head and narrows her eyes at him, “What makes you say that?”
He shrugs nonchalantly as he smirks, “Let’s just say, someone may have reminded him of his place here and about all the things he should have been reported on over the years.”
She smiles at him and leans forward to kiss his cheek, squeezing his shoulder gratefully before she takes a step back, “Thanks Dave,” she says, blowing out a breath as she turns to look at Aaron’s office, “I’m going to go talk to him.”
Dave nods, “I’ll distract the others when they come in, give you some time.”
She chuckles, “Someone is already taking their role as best man seriously.”
He laughs and shakes his head at her, “For this, I expect godfather of your firstborn, Bella.”
She turns and starts to walk towards the steps leading to Aaron’s office, “I’m not making any promises.”
She takes a moment as she gets to his door and blows out a breath before she knocks and walks in, smiling softly at him as he looks up from his paperwork.
“Hi honey,” she says, closing the door behind her, “You left early this morning.”
He clears his throat and nods, the same shame he’d felt ever since he’d hit Clark swelling in his chest the moment he sees her.
“I had paperwork to do,” he says, folding his hands on his desk, “I didn’t want to wake you.”
They fall into an awkward silence and she hates it, her eyes drifting to his knuckles that were bruised just like she knew they would be before she looks back at him, their eyes meeting as he covers the damaged skin with his other hand. She knows what he’s thinking, the comparisons he will have no doubt made to a man she’ll never get to meet, the man who he spent his whole life worrying he’d turn into. There were moments when she wished she could have a few moments alone with his father, when she wished she could give him a piece of her mind, when she wanted nothing more than to yell at the man who was supposed to protect his son, to hide him from the harshness of the world instead of exposing him to it.
She knew they’d have to talk about it, that she’d have to tell him, again, that she didn’t need protecting, that she didn’t need him to fight her battles for her, but this wasn’t the time for that. Not yet anyway.
“Lewis told Dave what happened,” she says, still standing by the door, her hands clasped together as she once again twists her engagement ring, around her finger, “And Dave told me.”
Aaron sighs, and looks down at his desk, clasping his hands tighter around each other, pressing against his bruised flesh, as irritation at his friend flashes through him. He didn’t want her to know what Clark had said about her. It was one of the main reasons why he hadn’t told her last night, his desire to protect her, to stop her from being any more hurt than she already had been superseding everything else.
“Sweetheart…” he starts, but he trails off, unsure what he wants to say. He looks up as he hears her walking towards him and he sits back in his chair, allowing her room to sit on the edge of his desk.
“We’ll talk about how I don’t need you to protect me later,” she says, reaching for his hand and sandwiching it between both of hers, her touch careful as she runs her thumb back and forth over his damaged skin, “From both the people who say things about me and the things they say.”
“You’re going to be my wife,” he says, anger flashing through him again, feeling wrong and biting in comparison to her gentle touch, “And even if you weren’t…no one should speak about you like that,” he says, shaking his head as he looks up at her, “You’re…you’re everything.”
She presses her lips together and raises his hand to them, stamping a kiss against his damaged skin.
“You’re everything to me, honey,” she says, kissing his knuckles again, soft and diligent as if it would heal him instantly. On some level, he’s sure it does, “So I don’t want you to risk your job over the opinion of a guy like Clark.”
He nods and avoids her eye contact, “I’m sorry.”
She cups his cheek with her spare hand and makes him look at her, “You have nothing to be sorry for, baby,” she says, leaning forward and stamping her lips against his, “Only he does, and  I think the broken nose is enough of a punishment,” her smile fades slightly as she chews her lip, clearly lost in thought and he squeezes her hand.
“What’s wrong, Em?”
She shakes her head, “Nothing’s wrong,” she assures him, “It’s just…Clark used to ask me out all the time. And he stopped when I came back from Paris. I kind of assumed it was because we got together so quickly but…” she laughs humourlessly as the scar on her abdomen burns, the phantom stake driving through it as she thinks about it, “I guess not. Not that it really matters, I’d never go there in a million years even if we weren’t together but…it just makes me wonder how many people are thinking the same thing.”
The anger he’d felt last night flashes through him again for a moment, hot and overwhelming as he feels it threaten to burst free, but it disappears as quickly as it came, his concern for her more important. They’d both been self-conscious of their respective scars their first night together, as if they didn’t already know the worst of what each other had been through. It had been a night of exploration, of soft touches and questions that they’d had for years answered. Ever since then, they’d barely acknowledged it, as comfortable with each other as someone could be with another person.
“You’re beautiful,” he says, shifting back so she can slip into his lap, his arms tight around her as she settles against him, her side pressing into his chest, “And he’s an idiot if he thinks what happened to you doesn’t make you even more so.”
She scoffs and smiles lovingly at him, pushing his hair from his forehead, “You’re my fiance, you have to say that.”
“It’s true,” he says, moving his hand so it rests on her abdomen, gently tracing the edges of the scar that lay beneath her clothes. Scar tissue spread out like a constellation, the slope of it a pattern he could follow with his eyes closed, “It’s made of you, so how could it be anything other than beautiful.”
She shakes her head and leans in to kiss him, her lips firm against his as she cups the back of his head, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” he replies, kissing her once more before she rests her head against his shoulder, content to sink into his embrace before the day truly begins, “I wonder when Strauss will be in here yelling at me about last night.”
“I think Dave got you out of that one,” she says, reaching for his hand and linking their fingers together, “He had a conversation with Clark and with Lewis,” she tilts her head to look up at him, “He said something about reminding Clark of his place.”
Aaron chuckles and kisses her forehead, “I’ll have to come up with a way to thank him.”
She smiles, and is briefly distracted as she sees Dave walking up the stairs and stopping just outside of Aaron’s office, clearly trying to be sneaky but failing. She nods towards him and Aaron sees him too, so she winks at him, a silent request to go along with what she was going to say.
“He’s already claimed the role of godfather for our firstborn in return for it,” she says, her smile getting wider as his does, the mention of their potential future child enough to get rid of any lingering anxiety in the air around them, “Poor kid doesn’t exist and they already have Dave as their moral guidepost.”
“I can hear you, you know.”
They both laugh at Dave’s weary voice coming through the window and Emily leans into Aaron’s side again as she replies, happy and content in his arms.
“I know, that’s why I said it, old man.”

Leah looks at the screen of her phone. Even after all this time, seeing Sam's name lit up on her phone makes her stomach drop. Her finger hovering over the green answer button. She didn't want to talk to him, especially when Dieufel was still over at his house. But in the end, Sam was her alpha.
Jacob leans over to snoop. They'd been hanging out a lot more, bonding through the fact that both of them imprinted on witches. "He's gonna keep calling if you don't answer."
Groaning, she pinches the bridge of her nose and leans back against the raggedy couch that was in the Black garage. "I know. But the moment I switch to my wolf, everyone will know. Ugh, I just don't want to hear anymore of their pity. I got enough of it with the whole Sam and Emily ordeal. Even more when my dad died."
"I don't think it's pity. More like sympathy because we can feel your pain through the pack telepathy." He tries to explain. Then his own phone started to ring. He raises an eyebrow and turns from Leah for a moment. "It's (y/n)." They hadn't spoken to one another since she told Bella about him imprinting on Evita. In retrospect maybe he should have told Bella. They were friends after all, right? She should be happy for him that he'd found his destined mate.
He decides to answer, knowing that there could only be two reasons why you were calling: to apologize or something bad has happened. But the voice on the other end wasn't that of his friend's. It was Edward who started talking. His speech broken up by the sound of rushing wind. Jacob presses the phone closer to his ear. "What's going on?"
Edward raises the volume of his voice. "Irina is heading your way!"
"What?" Jacob still didn't understand what Edward meant. Irina? The issue with the Denali clan had been taken care of. Or, at least that's what Jacob surmised when (y/n) came back alive. Uncertainly he looks to Leah. "He's saying something about Irina coming here."
The call cuts off.
Leah's on her feet and pulling her tank top over her head. "It's a warning idiot."
Her skin ripples, breaking apart into fur and pure muscle. Limbs elongate and form into ginormous paws with bayonets for claws.
Jacob didn't have the opportunity to shift into his wolf. Standing in the opening of his garage was a woman with pitch black eyes staring at them. Her long, platinum blonde hair tumbled down over her shoulders. By the paleness of her complexion, she could only be Irina.
Leah bares her fangs, the gray fur that ran along her back was raised in agitation. Irina glances at Leah, eyes unblinking. "Such an unsightly creature you are. This is what killed Laurent. . .What the Cullens are protecting. I have all rights to kill you."
He notices the slight flair of her nostrils taking in their scent. Also to see if they were afraid of her presence. Jacob takes trained, slow breaths to lower the increasing beating of his heart. His tongue sticks to the roof of his dry mouth.
Irina's lips curls in a distasteful snarl. "Filthy animals." The hatred she has toward them reeks. Leah's snout crinkles at the scent.
Time moves fast. The moment Irina leaps for Jacob has Leah simultaneously leaping over Jacob's car to get to the vampire. They take a tumble, causing a massive hole in the weak, old wood of the garage. Jacob takes the distraction to shift and there's a fury of snapping jaws when (y/n)'s wolf breaks past the lining of trees, Evita, Dieufel and Edward on her back.
"Irina! Stop!" Edward shouts from atop of (y/n)'s back. He launches himself easily off and into the bramble of vampire fangs and wolf snouts. He grabs Leah by the scruff to stop her and tries to peel Irina away. Irina may as well have been another animal as she gnashed her teeth, trying to get a bite of Leah. Jacob and (y/n) stood on the outside, hesitant to intervene lest you risk harming any of them.
Evita digs out from the bag hanging from her hip something that fell like sand through her fingers as she thrust it into the ball of tangled limbs and teeth. After she mutters a few words, the reaction is near instantaneous, a sudden volt of energy that expel the vampires away from Leah. Leah manages to stay on her feet through the sheer will of her claws in the earth. Irina and Edward slide off to the other side. Finally Edward had an opening to fully get ahold of her.
In her craze, Irina launches her upper body forward as Edward maneuvers her into a secure leg lock. "Now Dieufel!"
Both he and Evita speed over to where Irina and Edward struggle on the ground, eyes focused and hands gracefully weaving intricate patterns in the air while Evita is making a large circle around Edward and Irina. His lips move without any sound coming from them. Citrus smell accompanies his use of magic, like with Evita. Everyone could smell the spell swirling in the air. Irina glares daggers at him the entire time all while trying to free herself from Edward's hold. Around the two vampires, the atmosphere seems to crackle. Leah's ears press flat against her skull at the sensation of each strand of fur is standing at attention. Everyone misses the trickling presence of the others in the pack. They remain at the border of trees and open space but ready to pounce if aid was required.
Dieufel continues his chanting and once Evita has made symbols in the dirt with her finger, the circle glows faintly.
"Edward, let go of Irina as fast as you can and grab my hand." Evita instructs him. His bronze head nods in understanding. In a blink of an eye, he unlatches himself from Irina and is being pulled out of the ring by Evita.
Irina surges to follow but appears to slam face first into an invisible wall. Spinning on her heel and near frothing at the mouth, she moves in Dieufel's direction but is met by the same forcefield. They simply have a stare down. Dieufel is unimpressed by her. He actually looks a bit bored with Irina as he spits out the simple command "Sleep."
Her defiance wavered as an unexpected weariness washed over her. She staggers back a few steps before her eyes droop closed and her body crumples to the ground.
"She didn't get you with her teeth, did she?"Jacob sniffs Leah, (y/n) right beside him casting anxious glances between Leah and Irina. With the threat being neutralized, the others of the pack begin to take steps forward. All are hesitant to believe that Irina is actually unconscious. Her platinum blonde hair spills all around her head. Eyes closed.
"I'm fine."She cedes with a partial snarl. She wasn't concerned about herself. Not in a moment like this where everyone had access to her thoughts and memories now. Even though Irina is down, her adrenaline is still spiked. Instead she finds herself backing away from everyone. Doing her best to put a lockdown on her mind. But there was only so much she could do in retaliation.
Seth's gold eyes were rounded once the information from Leah's psyche seeps in. In the pack, nothing was private or sacred. "Leah, why didn't you tell me you imprinted?"He was hurt. He'd always proven to be his sister's number one advocate.
An issue to be addressed later. Sam circles around Irina, mentally snapping at Seth "Save it. We have bigger things."That couldn't be argued.
Edward reaches under Irina and easily lifts her up and addresses Sam "Your's or mine?"
"Your's. I don't want her anywhere near Emily."He resists the urge to growl toward the comatose vampire. His guard would not be lowered. Not if it potentially meant risking Emily's safety.
Tumblr media
"I can't believe she's still asleep." Kate murmurs while sadly gazing down at her sister. With a loving hand, she smoothes down stray strands of her sleek and silky mane of hair, so pale and reflective that it almost appears to have a metallic sheen. It was only a matter of hours before the Denali coven showed up at the home. They gave the wolves a wide berth when they first arrived. Quite different from when they'd met you. Uncomfortable probably due to the fact that they were outnumbered and the members of the pack present preferred to stay in their fur around the Denalis.
Keeping a strict vigil on her was Dieufel. Making sure that Irina did not awaken before they deemed it appropriate. Tanya casts nervous eyes at him. Unnerved by his scent and presence. An oddity to the hermit-like vampires. He needed to monitor the spell that was cast on her at all times. Never before had it been used against an immortal. "She will only awaken when I give the command." Dark eyes clash against gold. While Dieufel could be a charmer, you noticed he had the ability to appear just as fierce. His accent seemed to come out more too.
He wanted the Denalis to know that he was not one to be messed with. The message was clear as Tanya flicks her gaze back to her sister frozen in place on the couch. "Thank you. She is. . . unpredictable right now and can't be trusted. This is for the best." Her throat constricts, choking her words with emotion. "I'm sorry we failed to keep her contained."
Esme speaks to Carmen in the corner along with Eleazar. It's Edward who poses the question to Tanya and a quiet Sam "Any ideas what to do with her?"
"We can't awaken her. That much is sure." Tanya admits.
You hear their conversation from the front foyer, waiting outside of the living room with Evita, Jacob and Leah. No one said a thing, especially Jacob and Leah who merely focus on their bare feet. At least the Cullens had offered them robes while they were there. How many other times have the Cullens lent clothes to your naked pack members? Your own was so soft that you kept pinching the fabric of the sleeve.
The matter of Irina didn't involve any of you. There'd be no point to stay but to listen in on the jurisdiction. Your feet refused to move despite your brain sending your leg muscles signals. Adrenaline still spiked in your veins. Even worse were the nerves that wracked through you from being with Jacob and Leah. Another wolf imprinting on a witch. The elders said that one of the theories of imprinting was that it chose the best mate for you that would give one strong offspring. This was starting to appear to be true from what you've noticed. You imprinted on Edward, a vampire gifted with a special ability; Jacob with Evita who had magic in her blood as did Dieufel. Any child from Evita or Dieufel would prove to be strong and have an advantage over anyone else. Whatever child you have with Edward-
You stop yourself right there when you realize the blush that was heating your face just from thinking about it. Too young to be thinking about having kids with someone you just started dating. There hadn't even been an actual date yet, not with all the chaos that was going on.
A warm hands beckons you. Evita is regarding you, worry plain on her face. "Are you tired? We should go back to Sam's. I'm sure they have everything handled in there. Dieufel doesn't require my assistance."
Catching Jacob's reaction to her voice in your peripheral, you bite the inside of your mouth. Leah imprinted on Dieufel, the young man in the next door room. Evita's friend. "Yeah, that's a good idea."
"We can steal some of Dieufel's herbal smokes." She whispers to you in a conspiring manner, a devious grin to follow.
"Sure, I can hack up my other lung." Laughing in unison, you and Evita discreetly enter the sitting room causing eyes to descend on you. "Evita I are heading back. Unless you guys need anything else?"
Sam pulls away from the huddled group around the couch. "No, you guys can go. But before that, I need a quick word with (y/n)."
You nod, aware that it might have something to do with the imprinting mess that still awaited to be acknowledged. Sam leads you to the farthest wall of the living room though it would do little help with preventing the vampires from listening in. Thankfully Dieufel's attention is focused on Irina.
Your pack alpha leans closer to your ear "Can you keep an eye on Jacob and Leah? I feel bad asking this of you but I need to stay here." He sounds pained that he has to be present in case anything happened with Irina. "Dieufel will probably stay here with us just to monitor. That should make things easier for Leah, but Jake-"
Not wanting him to finish that thought, you touch his beefy bicep. "I know. If he wasn't privy to telling Bella though I doubt he'll be blurting it out to Evita." Jacob hadn't said a word to you since apprehending Irina. He was still mad at you which would make keeping him in line a bit tricky. He hadn't even so much as looked at you the entire time all four of you were waiting out in the hall. Did he really think you may blurt it out to Evita herself like you did with Bella? Sam instructed that it was best for the witches not to know about imprinting right now. There was too much to do. Too much at stake. A good outcome heavily relied on the witches.
Back out in the hallway, Evita was waiting patiently. You turn to the other two. "Sam wants you guys to go back with us. We're not really needed here."
Jacob and Leah exchange a glance. They would rather stay in the house of the bloodsuckers than return to La Push. Leah shifts against the wall. "Is that leech really out cold?"
"So far so good. Dieufel's spell seems to be working." You regret saying his name in front of Leah as you notice the slight flinch in her eyes. Immediately you see Leah's fortified wall of isolation go up. This must have been so hard for her to deal with. You didn't want to push for details, not from Leah. She wouldn't give them to you anyway. "Even if something happens with the spell, there's eight vampires in there alongside him. They won't let her get out."
"That's what we thought the first time." Ruefully hisses Leah. "Her own coven wasn't even able to stop her from escaping."
Evita bristles. "Dieufel's spell will not let you down. As long as he wills it, she will remain asleep." You hadn't seen this fiery expression on your new friend before. "His magic is strong."
Subtly, Jacob nudges Leah in the side with his elbow. They share another look of a silent argument being waged. Acceding, Leah takes a step back both physically and mentally as she murmurs out an apology which was enough to settle down Evita. She must have seen Dieufel as family considering how close the older boy had been to her sister Leti. The way Leah phrased her words must have come out as an insult in Evita's ears. Sometimes Leah didn't filter what she said. Doesn't think of the consequences that could from what she says. Her bluntness could be off putting but you and the pack were used to it by now. Evita was not. **
Atop of Washington's many ridged mountains stood Demetri and Felix.
While Jane may have been happing about the outcome of the newborn army uprising, Felix was not. He'd smelled something. . . off about the area they'd been standing in. Jane hadn't picked up on anything, excited as she was by the carnage of the destroyed newborns.
What the others in the small town of Forks and La Push didn't know was that Irina had already passed information onto the Volturi about something concerning that they should investigate. They'd come across Irina just as they entered the Washington state border.
"Do you think these are the same wolves that Caius ordered destroyed centuries ago?" Felix asks his companion.
"We'll find out soon enough."

Power rangers writing prompts
I decided to do a post to ideas and prompts I have or recieved of Power Rangers, so people might decide to write them. Feel free to use them. It would be nice to get credit or message if you do use them but it's not necessary. If you have other ideas write me in the comments or in a message and I might add them to this list.
Some of the ideas are solid and some are very general.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers:
Tommy Oliver struggling in school (can also be written as ADHD or learning disability character)
Autisic Billy Cranston
Civilians figuring out the rangers identities because they always stay to fight against the putties even without morphing.
2X08, the tape recorded the rangers morph and their identities revealed (by the news company or because Bulk and Skull screen it to everyone before the rangers were able to stop them)
2X09: Rocky, Adam and Aisha are coming to Angel Grove to the Broomball Tournament.
Sylvia, Kelly, Jeremy, Curtis finding out their cousins are power rangers.
There are many episodes with a child who hang out with the rangers so write fanfics from their point of view about the rangers, maybe what would have happened if they figured out their identities or what happened to them in the future because they appeared only once (Maria, Willy, Sylvia, Kelly, Jeremy, Cameron, Roger, Hallie)
Power Rangers Lost Galaxy:
Cassie became the pink ranger after Kendrix's death
Power Rangers Dino Thunder:
Rewrite of the season with Kat as Tommy's wife/girlfriend and the pink dino thunder ranger
Power Rangers SPD:
Sky, Bridge and Syd as red, blue and green, and starting as a team of three.
Cruger thoughts on why not giving Sky the red suit.
Z growing up in the streets.
Jack and Z first meeting.
Autistic Bridge Carson. Fic 1.
Cruger finding someone to take care of Z, Jack and Sam instead of letting them be alone in the streets.
Jack and Z experiences in the streets.
The rangers are doing Jack a birthday party since he never had one before.
E14: Bridge tries to read S.O.P.I.E's aura and figuring out she is a cyborg.
E17: Bridge reads Sky's aura and find out the alien switched bodies with him.
Sky handles differently with the whole Mirloc situation.
E30: Bridge thoughts after he got kidnapped.
E31: SPD calls Tommy Oliver of the future for help after the Dino Thunder rangers appeared.
Post series: Jack Landors/Ally Samuels
The other rangers team come to help defeat gruumm.
Z and Syd also got promotion in the colors.
Power Rangers Jungle Fury:
RJ journey to find in himself the wolf spirit and how he became a master.
Why RJ openned a pizza parlour.
Dominic journey when he was alone.
Power Rangers Samurai:
Lauren is the leader of the team instead of Jayden
Serena a ranger instead of Emily
Terry a ranger instead of Mia
General (comics related stuff, crossovers and dynamics between characters from different seasons):
The morphin grid bless the rangers and help them to succeed in life after they finished being rangers
One of the rangers get hurt badly.
The rangers deals with chronic pains from injuries they got in duties.
Power Rangers Mighty Morphin X Power Rangers SPD:
Billy Cranston and Bridge Carson meet and being autistic together. (Ideas for the meeting: Bridge will go to a mission in Aquitar and meet Billy there. Billy is on earth and SPD asking him for help in some tech. Billy meet younger Bridge before he is a ranger because he came to an internship in his company.)
Power rangers overdrive X Mighty Morphin the return:
Thrax and Selena meet
Thrax and Selena grow up as siblings
Kira and Adam talks more about Tommy
Power Rangers SPD X Soul of the Dragon:
Conner, Ethan and Kira meeting Dr. Oliver in the future
Conner, Ethan and Kira meeting JJ Oliver
JJ Oliver is part of the plot of the season (maybe in D-squad or E-squad)

emily locke x green fury?
The first time, it’s Emily who saves Green Fury: she watches the advert and thinks that it’s nice, to hang up the superhero costume and be rescued for once.
The second time is more traditional; Green Fury saves her damsel in distress from one of the many supervillian attacks on Charm City (it should be a standard rescue, but she looks at the tender, starstruck look in Emily’s eyes and thinks that this is once in a lifetime).
The third time, there’s no Green Fury, only Beatriz and Emily, and they save each other- their kiss is sweet and soft even while chaos reigns outside.

Okay, but just imagine Green Fury and Jackie getting jealous of one another, because both realize they have feelings for Emily. This results in a lot of passive aggressive insults and Green Fury "accidentally” lighting Jackie’s desk on fire. Emily, of course, is all sunshine and smiles and doesn’t understand why two of her closest friends seem to dislike each other so much.
This goes on for a while until Jack O’Lantern kidnaps Emily as a way of luring Green Fury into a trap, and then Jackie and Green Fury both immediately put aside their grudge and team up to kick Jack O’Lantern’s ass.

The Concussed Midfielder (Kelley O'Hara x Reader)
Tumblr media
Anonymous Request:  can u do a ko imagine with the reader getting a concussion and still playing? thank u!!!
Of course, it had to happen after the last substitute was used, at the 89th minute in with time to be added.
A corner kick courtesy of Tobin’s foot was flying into goal when you leaped in the air.
All you felt was the crack against your temple, before you hit the ground with a thud like a sack of potatoes.
Carli Llyod had sunk the header into the net, but instead of the usual celebration, your teammates had surrounded you.
“Y/N? Can you hear me?” You hear Christen say and you grimace, face scrunched up in pain.
Meanwhile, on the sidelines Kelley is pacing back and forth like a caged lion, Alex doing her best to hold the woman back.
“You can’t go out there Kel.” She whispers in her ear and the defender shakes her head.
“I don’t give a shit, that’s my girlfriend!” She snarls angrily watching as the medical team makes it to you.
Out of the corner of her eye she spots Vlatko having an intense conversation with the ref, who continues to shake her head until she turns away.
“What’s going on?” Alex asks as she and Kelley move towards the man, who shakes his head.
“They won’t let her come off...” He sighs. “Since we’ve used the last of our subs.”
Kelley’s eyes narrow, her lip curling in a snarl when she sees the ref talking to the medical staff.
Your hand rests on your temple, a lump and bruise forming where the woman’s elbow had connected with the side of your head.
“You really expect her to stay on!?” Megan shouts angrily at the ref, grimacing when you slap your hands over your ears.
“Shhh, it’s okay.” Julie whispers as she runs a hand down your back.
“This is totally against the rules!” Emily growls angrily.
“We’re sorry Ms. Y/L/N, but we’re unable to take you off.” The medical member frowns and your brows furrow in confusion.
“Wait, you want me to stay on?” You ask in disbelief and the members of the medical team all share a glance, frowning.
“If it were up to us, you’d come off...” The male member of the team turns to the ref, his eyes narrowed. “But it isn’t up to us.”
The ref blows her whistle and you groan, slapping your hands back over your ears as she ushers the medical team off.
On the sidelines Kelley snarls, wiggling in Ashlyn’s hold, the goalie having to get involved when she realized you for SURE weren’t coming off the pitch.
“WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!?” Kelley screams at the ref, who only sends her a glare before she makes her way towards where you and your teammates are, Alyssa gingerly helping you to your feet.
You stumble slightly, head spinning.
“Let’s go ladies-
“Can you give her a second?!” Christen bites angrily, green orbs narrowed, the usual calm woman’s angry demeanor scaring the ref who takes an abrupt step back.
“Yeah you’re making her stay on when she doesn’t need to.” Crystal snarls.
“Don’t push yourself okay? We’ll keep the ball away from your feet, we’ve only got a few minutes left.” Christen glances around the group, your teammates nodding.
“I mean I can still play...” You pout, but one look from the women surrounding you and you know you’re in no way getting the ball for the rest of the game.
Deep down you realize rather quickly it’s a good thing when it because painfully apparent that running is far from in the cards for you, your vision blurring and head spinning.
You were thankful when the Brazilian player who’d been on you the entire game had slowed to move with you, an arm around your middle as you walked on the field, your hand on the side of your head.
It remains that way until the whistle blows, Kelley sprinting onto the field and wrapping her arms around you, the two of you collapsing to the ground.
“I WON’T STOP UNTIL I GET YOUR JOB AND THAT’S A PROMISE.” Kelley screams at the ref, eyes full of fury.
“Kel.” You wince, the defender frowning as she wraps her arms tightly around you, the medical team almost immediately by your side.
“Let’s get you taken care of Y/N.” One of them says and you nod.
“I don’t feel so good.” You mumble, your stomach churning and Kelley frowns, glaring at the ref who you realize is being swarmed by the media.
“Let’s get you in the back.”
The medical team, along with Kelley, Christen, Tobin and the others help you towards the back, stopping when you wretch, vomiting in the grass, nearly falling over when you bend down.
Kelley tightens her hold on you, a lump forming in her throat at the sight of you in so much pain.
“We’ve got you Y/N, we’ve got you.”
                                                              ***
It’s obvious to them that you, without a doubt, have a concussion, which you knew would most likely result in a career change for the referee who made you stay on field considering the media was on her the second the final whistle blew.
“Well, you’re the center of attention today.” Alex frowns as she scans Twitter, fans outraged that you were forced to stay on the field after taking a blow to the head.
“The fans are about to square up.” Emily snorts, skimming the multiple expletives the fans are using to refer to the referee as.
“I think I’ve seen her called a bitch over a dozen times and that was in one post.” Ashlyn snorts and you smirk, grunting when Kelley holds the bag of ice to your temple.
“I’m fine Kel.” You pout, the defender shaking her head as she holds you from behind.
“Tell that to the bruised knot on your head.” She grumbles, burying her face in the back of your neck, nuzzling into the indented flesh of the nape of your neck.
You lean heavily back into her, letting out a deep and lengthy sigh.
“I’m sorry I scared you.” You whisper tiredly and Kelley shakes her head.
“You didn’t do anything, the ref did...” She growls the last bit and you smile.
Christen clears her throat, grinning.
“Referee fired amid fan outrage after USWNT player Y/N Y/L/N is forced to stay on field after suffering a head injury.”
Megan throws a fist in the air while the others clap softly, in respect of the fact that you’re literally concussed.
“Good, she was a bitch.” Tierna mumbles under her breath and everyone turns to her, their eyes wide.
You snicker, a grin stretching across your face.
“T, only we can use that language.” Alyssa shakes her head and Rose scoffs.
“Ashlyn literally swears enough for the entire team.”
The team starts to bicker until Kelley lets out an angry growl, everyone turning to her with wide eyes.
“Oh yeah...”
“Sorry Y/N.”
You smile.
“It’s okay, Kelley’s just acting like the Bull Terrier she is.” You snicker and the defender rolls her eyes, mumbling into the back of your neck.
Kelley moves to rest her chin on your shoulder and you turn around, smiling when your eyes lock.
“I love Bull Terriers.” You giggle and Kelley beams, cheeks pink as she leans in to press a kiss to your lips.
“And I love you.”
Emily snorts.
“So, you’re not disagreeing with the fact that you’re a Bull Terrier?” Emily asks and you snicker.
Tobin snorts.
“I see Kelley as more of an, angry ankle biter myself.”
Kelley snarls.
“Fuck off.”
Tierna rolls her eyes.
“And you say we need to watch our language.”

(Image Description: A doodle of Wendy and Van from Powerless flirting, Wendy's hand around his neck and holding his arm, while Van has one arm tucked into his jacket, across his chest. End image description.) I've foolishly decided to ship this a joke, as in "friends with benefits who eventually find each other enjoyable and funny" Everyone else is waiting for this nightmare to end. Some villain probably kidnaps Wendy cause she's involved in one of the richest men in Charm City.

If i desperately need to watch a show with a gay jewish detective but cant commit to 200+ eps do you have a list of recs for episodes of murdoch mysteries im weak for gays in period dramas
Just know getting into it that they don’t really focus on either of these things in the show (currently only one episode where he discovers he’s jewish and a brief mention in another ep +  he’s confirmed gay three seasons after he’s introduced) BUT even minus being a gay and jewish icon Watts is still the best character and he’s been acting gay since he was introduced lol
It’s week by week mysteries though so honestly you can tune in whenever and you won’t be lost. Watts is introduced in season 10 and I’ve included and italicized all the episodes he’s in below. The show is great not just for Watts though so if you want to get more into it without watching all the episodes here are some from each season that hit more major plot points or are just super good in our opinion:
Season 1
1x01 Power
1x05 Till Death Do us Part (also gay)
1x08 Still Waters
1x13 The Annoying Red Planet
Season 2
2x05 The Green Muse
2x06 Shades of Grey
2x07 Big Murder on Campus
2x13 Anything You Can Do?
Season 3
3x01 The Murdoch Identity
3x03 Victor, Victorian
3x05 Me, Myself and Murdoch
3x06  This One Goes to Eleven (James Pendrick x Murdoch is my favourite non-canon ship on this show tbh)
3x07 Blood and Circuses
3x08 Future Imperfect
3x12 In the Altogether
3x13 The Tesla Effect
Season 4
4x03 Buffalo Shuffle
4x06 Dead End Street
4x13 Murdoch in Wonderland
Season 5
5x01 Murdoch of the Klondike
5x03 Who Killed the Electric Carriage?
5x07 Stroll on the Wild Side pt. 1
5x08 Stroll on the Wild Side pt. 2
5x09 Invention Convention
5x11 Murdoch in Toyland
5x13 Twentieth Century Murdoch
Season 6
6x01 Murdoch Air
6x04 A Study in Sherlock
6x13 Crime & Punishment
6x13 The Murdoch Trap
Season 7
7x03 The Filmed Adventures of William Murdoch (only watch this if you end up caring about pendrick as much as we do or like sillier episodes lol)
7x04 The Return of Sherlock
7x08 Republic of Murdoch
7x09 Midnight Train to Kingston (only if you like Gillies)
7x16 Kung Fu Crabtree
7x18 The Death of Dr. Ogden
Season 8
8x04 Holy Matrimony Murdoch
8x07 What Lies Buried
8x12 The Devil Wears Whalebone (Emily Grace x Lillian Moss, a canon wlw couple starts here -Lillian is in 8x08 and 8x10 but she doesn’t play a huge role. I’m not including all their eps cause their interactions are brief and skippable in most)
8x14 Toronto’s Girl Problem
Season 9
9x03 Double Life
9x05 24 Hours to Doomsday (again only if you like Pendrick)
9x07 Summer of ‘75
9x10 The Big Chill
Season 10
10x04 Concocting a Killer (Watts introduction episode!!!)
10x05 Jagged Little Pill
10x10 The Devil inside (it’s not good but you have to watch if you like Gillies)
10x11 A Murdog Mystery
10x012 The Missing
10x15 Hades Hath No Fury
10x18 Hell to Pay
Season 11
11x01 Up from Ashes
the book of jackson online webseries
11x02 Merlot Mysteries
11x03 8 Footsteps
11x06 21 Murdoch Street
11x07 The Accident
11x09 The Talking Dead
11x10 F.L.A.S.H (Pendrick is back and he has a gay assistant. a win!)

Chapter 8 - The Fool
Your name: submit What is this?
You eagerly watch the screen waiting and listening for more information. Nothing. They brush it off and moved on to the next story.
“Why didn’t either of you tell me about this?” Connor stands to his feet striding toward his brothers in fury. You had learned over your time staying with the brothers that they had high titles within the law enforcement in Detroit. Richard even earning the title of Commissioner.
Connor, however, had left the DPD once Hank had fallen ill. He couldn’t bring himself to work there again after that. Instead, he found himself a career working with youth and community. The youth being child android models as well as newly deviated androids. His brother’s usually kept him informed with the goings-on in the city. All of the brothers having a powerful influence and an important image in Detroit they needed to know this information.
“We barely see you anymore, Connor.” Collin retorted in his defence. “How are we supposed to tell you when you’re not around?”
Richard was absolutely lavishing in this moment, you noticed him attempting to hide his contentment. You found it strange, Richard never really smiled, he only ever smirked in a devilish manner.
Connor grabs a dark green military jacket that had been draped over the side of the couch to put it over his shoulders.
“Where are you going?” Collin sighed before moving towards Connor, in an attempt to perhaps stop him.
“I need to see Markus.” He avoided eye contact, fixing his jacket onto his body.
“I suppose we ought to come as well.” Richard slapped his hands down onto his knees before standing up to join his brother.
“No.” Connor shut him down. His gaze cutting into Richards.
Richard shrugged and sat back down. “As you wish, we can stop by later.” His hands stretching over the back of the dark sofa.
Connor snarls his upper lip at him, looking between his brothers in disgust before strutting out the door. He was absolutely livid. It would be hard to imagine that the three of them used to be close.
Collin worried that perhaps this lack of this important information could be the straw that broke the camel’s back, so to speak. Although Collin and Connor’s relationship didn’t exactly start on the best foot, they had truly grown inseparable over time. Once they had met Richard the three of them had created somewhat of a bond, feeling like they shared some special type of understanding. They helped each other when struggling with deviancy, they worked together, fought for android rights together, Eventually even adopting one another as brothers.
Collin usually always went along with Richard’s schemes, mostly because they wanted a similar outcome. He trusted Richard, however, he wasn’t so sure about all of this. Yes, Collin thought humans to be less than androids and that Connor needed to realise this but he couldn’t help shake the feeling that Richard’s plan was only pushing Connor further away from the two.
He would never admit it but he always looked up to Connor. He was there for him when no one else was, he forgave him after the Cyberlife tower incident and he never held it against him. They used to see themselves in each other but now, Connor looked a broken shell of his former self.
“Well, I hope you're happy now.” Collin turned his back to Richard, LED spinning red.
“I know what I’m doing.” Was Richard’s reply.
---
It was late and Connor still hadn’t come home.
Collin and Richard were moving around the apartment arguing with each other, you listened in at first but after a while, their voices faded from your mind. You just stared out the window into the city night. Wondering about the events earlier.
Why were humans running through the streets? Why where they attacking androids? They were foolish to think that they could overpower or even so much as hurt one.
Eventually, Richard and Collin came to an agreement that they were going to go speak with the Mayor, Markus at City Hall.
Would he still be there this late? Apparently so. You guessed androids technically didn’t need to sleep. Some still did, well they went into stasis mode while laying down. It was a good way for an android to run diagnostics and ‘recharge’ per-say, but it wasn’t needed too frequently.
Even after the brothers came to their agreement to see the Mayor, they moved on to their next argument. Whether or not they should take you, mainly arguing over it being appropriate or not. Richard did not seem too keen on leaving you alone again.
Eventually, Richard came up to you, hands settled behind his back.
“How would you like to go for a little walk?”
Your eyes glimmered at the question. The thought of being out in the real world again excited you. You hadn’t really been giving a chance to enjoy it on your first encounter as you had been lost, alone and on the run looking for Emily. At least this time you would be given the chance to marvel at the city you never got to explore.
“I’d really love to.”
“Go put something warm on.” Richard instructed you.
You rushed to your bedroom in a paced walk, trying to hide your eagerness. Even though whatever political situation that was going on seemed serious, at least it would give you a tiny taste of the world.
When you came out of your room you felt your heart drop as you noticed Richard now standing with something in his hands. A leash and a collar.
Seriously?
“Come here.” He commanded.
You slowly approached him, hoping it was just some kind of messed up joke. “Is that really necessary?” You asked meekly.
“Well, with the commotion caused by the humans recently, I would say so.” He spoke in a cold voice. “Plus you don’t have the best track record, little pet.” Opening the black leather collar up he stretched it out, waiting for you to subserviently move closer.
“Does it really have to go around my neck?” you subconsciously place your hand around your throat and began to rub it softly “Can’t you just put it on my wrist?”
“Just be glad he doesn’t make you walk on all fours.” Collin walks past the two of you, his eyes buried in his phone. Richard shooting him a glaring look before his cold eyes snapped back to you.
“Remember your place.” He pulls the collar tightly against your neck. You gasp a little at constriction around your throat.
“Whoops.” He replies in a sneer before he continues to buckle it around your neck, clasping the leash to the collar.
Why did he have to be so harsh all of a sudden?
He gives it a slight tug and leads you out the door.
After a quick car ride and a brief walk to your destination, your androids bring youinto the city hall. You were a little disappointed you didn’t get to see more of the city but honestly more relieved at the same time, having the collar on was humiliating.
Your owners, of course, didn’t want you in their actual meeting with Markus and the other androids, so you were kept in the waiting room with a member of staff to keep watch. There was an older man who was also sat in the waiting room, he must have also been human. You could tell because androids weren’t usually made to look his age, plus he had no LED.
While some androids chose to part with their LEDs, it was usually more common to keep it as it became a part of their culture and a symbol of pride.
Since your owners had left you (yet again), you took off your collar to rub your neck. Wondering what the point was of them bringing you here.
“I wouldn’t do that” the older man who was sitting across from you warned, hinting to the fact that you had taken off the collar. Your eyes travelled up to meet his tired ones.
“First time out, huh?” His voice was rough and he spoke through a thick accent but something about it seemed almost comforting. However so, you remained quiet, not really knowing what to say.
“Who’s your master then?” He asks.
You nudge your head in the direction of Collin and Richard who you both could see from a distance entering into a conference room.
“Wow, the RK brothers. huh, must be nice.” His eyes trailed the two of them.
Something about his statement bugged you. “You know them?”
“Know of them, Big players round these parts. Politics and all that.” He explained
“They’re politicians?” You questioned the man, confused.
“No, not exactly, but they definitely play their part in how things are run around here. Big following.”
You chew on your bottom lip. You guessed that made sense, you recalled how one of the girls back at the adoption centre spoke about how they played a factor in the android revolution.
“I hope your behaving, humans ain’t looking too good at the moment.” He jokes. You take it slightly more literal.
“They’re hard to read.” You fidget in your seat, looking nervous.
“You want my advice. Keep your nose clean and do as you’re told. You’re never going to outsmart a ‘droid. Maybe if you’re lucky they’ll treat you well.”
Your mouth weakly parts.
“Look, kid, with ‘droids like them, you probably got it better than most.” He shrugs in his attempt to ‘comfort’ you.
“Suck up to them, maybe they’ll become fond of yah like mine.”
“Yours?”
“Look at me, kid. I’m in my golden years and I'm still with my ‘droids, most throw yah away when you stop being cute.”
You had never really thought about it. Did androids just get rid of their humans once they reached a certain age?
“Throw them away? Where to?”
“Beats me kid. I’m not looking to find out neither.” He rests his weathered hand against the side of his face.
A silence falls again when you don’t know what else to say.
“What about that Connor though?” The man perked up. He seemed genuinely interested. “What’s he like?”
“I’m afraid I don’t know much about him at all.” You replied to him in an almost apologetic way.
“That’s a Shame.” His plump face falls flat.
Before you could open your mouth to say much else, androids begin to pour out of one of the conference rooms.
“Come on, Jake.” One of them calls out in your direction, in a similar way a man would call his dog.
“Oh, looks like that’s me. See you around, kid.” The man, Jake, tilts his head to you.
“Bye…” You say quietly.
It was another while before Collin and Richard came out to collect you. You had spent your time mulling over Jake's words. Maybe you should take heed of his advice?
He didn’t seem completely miserable. Maybe you were lucky to be with your owners.
You looked down at the collar in your hands, squeezing it and sighing. You took another deep breath before clasping it around your neck again.
When Richard and Collin came back, you stood to your feet and handed your leash over to Richard to hold. He almost looked shocked at this although he didn’t really say much. He just took it and began to walk.
Arriving back at the house, Richard unclasped your collar. You just went to the living room to sit down quietly and wait for further instruction. Avoiding them didn’t work. Maybe playing your role as their little pet might.
You wondered maybe if you could earn their trust and who knows, maybe things would be easier? Or maybe it will help you to learn the best way of metaphorically stabbing them in the back to escape.
The next few days you had been compliant. You did exactly everything they asked of you, which honestly wasn’t much.
Connor finally came home after three days of Collin non-stop calling him. You tried to eavesdrop on the conversation they had but you didn’t hear much. You didn’t want to move too close and get caught, ruining the perfect image you were trying to keep up.
You briefly heard Connor mentioning he felt that androids were falling into the mistakes of the past. Collin trying his best to comfort his brother but to no avail. It wasn’t really going to be much comfort anyway when Connor knew that Collins beliefs were so different from his own and yet he still tried his best to be understanding.
Collin did, however, promise to help Connor with an event he was planning for work. A fundraiser of sorts for his youth centre. Which left you home alone with Richard.
The both of you sat in the living room, TV blaring on some Political debate you didn’t really pay much attention to. You noticed that Richard kept looking over at you, needless to say, he was confused by your willingness to play along, maybe you were finally learning your place.
Your eyes caught his, so you responded with a small smile. He furrowed his brows getting up out of his seat and moving to stand over you.
He held your chin to look up at him and brushed his thumb along the side of your cheek. You continued to smile brightly up at him in spite.
“Have we broke your spirit, little one?” he tilted his head to the side.
“No, I’ve just decided I like it here.” Your smile dangled on the corner of your mouth.
“Is that so?” His brows lifted, hand still on your chin.
“I guess I didn’t realise how lucky, I was until now.”
His hand dropped from your chin. “Bullshit.” He knelt down to examine your face more carefully.
“I have everything I need.” You shrug.
“And what about your little friend?”
You didn’t reply, you just looked down to your hands. Richard still observing your every move.
“Yes, I still miss her. That won’t change.” You eventually responded. “But I’ve learnt my lesson. No running away.”
Richard's face was blank, it was hard to tell whether or not he was buying what you had been telling him. He moved his hand back to your face to tuck a stray bit of your hair behind your ear. You don’t know what came over you but something in your head told you to kiss the inside of his palm as he did so.
He froze, as did you. Surprised you actually did it, your idiotic brain thinking affection could be a way to win him over. At least you hoped that’s why you did it and not for any other reason, it's what you would tell yourself anyway.
His jaw clenched as he stared at you, neither of you moving for a couple of seconds, His LED flashing between colours.
His hands eventually fell to your bare legs, slowly stroking them. You maintained eye contact, the silence between you deafening.
You instinctively moved your head slightly towards him. His LED flashed red, immediately standing to his feet and stumbling backwards.
Your eyes widen in shock at this usually stoic android’s awkwardness.
Before you could say anything to him, he had already left the living room, making haste back to his bedroom.
What the hell just happened?

Chapter 9 - Pacify Her
You sat in your confusion for another short while before snapping out of it. What was your next move going to be? You probably should just go to bed and act as if nothing happened the next day.
But still, a part of you itched. Something deep down bugged you. You wanted to talk to Richard.
But was it a good idea? Would he get pissed at you, pushing you back to square one of your ‘kissing up’ or would this perhaps be good, going to check on him. Showing some care?
You wanted to take time to ponder on what to do but your feet had other ideas, leading you right outside his bedroom door.
Curiosity pulling at you again, you let your ear press against one of the matte black double doors of his room, listening intently but there was not a sound.
While your face was pressed against the one of the doors you noticed the other was slightly agape. Biting down on your lip you pushed it ever so slightly to reveal Richard’s figure sitting on the edge of his bed. Head in hands, LED still Crimson.
You took a few steps backwards, wondering what the hell you were going to do. What was going through his mind, was this because of you or where you miss reading the situation? He could just be frustrated with all of what was going on with Connor and the humans.
While your head was also spinning around you hadn’t noticed yourself walking backwards straight into the door to Connor's room.
With a slam, you fell against the door which swung open. Ouch.
Whispering a silent swear you attempted to sit up off your now tender bottom. The noise you made hitting the ground then occurred to you. You were reminded that Richard’s door was slightly open. Trying your best to scramble to your feet, you made the plan in your head to dash back to your room, or the living room, anywhere but here.
Being too slow in your thoughts and actions meant you weren’t able to accomplish this in the right amount of time. While you were only picking yourself up from the ground, Richard was already standing in his doorway.
When you were on your feet you noticed him staring down at you, arms crossed. Your face burned in shame. He didn’t say anything, he just continued his intimidating stare.
“I… I’m sorry, I was just-” You stammered trying not to fall over your own words.
He put a hand up to silence you before calling you to come over to him. Your head sunk down below your shoulders, obliging to his demand. He stood to the side and gestured you to go into his room, as you did he closed the door behind you.
“Sit.” He pointed at his bed. You complied, nervously sitting on your hands, something that you did when you felt like you were going to be in trouble.
You watched as Richard paced up and down through his room, finger pointed upon his lips as his head was at a downward angle. LED flashing between colours, it seemed that was happening a lot tonight.
You bit at your lip again, desperately wanting to know what he was thinking. Was he mad, did he know you were spying on him, did he think you were sneaking into Connor's room? Maybe he thought you were just roughhousing? You didn’t know, it could be a number of things really.
He finally looked in your direction, you felt yourself instinctively gulp.
“What am I going to do with you?” He sighs. His usual flat voice sounded slightly aggravated.
“Richard, I-” You attempted to explain yourself, but before you could say another word one of Richard’s hand was around your neck, pinning you down on his bed.
“Don’t use my name like we are friends.” He growled. “Your nothing but an animal, do you hear me?” His face was inches from yours, your noses almost touching.
You exhale quietly. Your stare caught, mesmerized by his eyes. Eyes that oftentimes felt cold and bitter, usually giving you an alienating sense of distance now felt like the hottest of blazing blue flames which engulfed around you.
Your mouth fell slightly as you fully took in his face, his touch, his presence. Somehow less frightening than usual but twice as exciting.
He took note of your subtle movements and look of awe on your face. He bit his lip back as he stared at your own. His thumb brushing the side of your neck, He allowed himself to linger as well for a brief few moments before snapping himself back to reality. He rose back to his feet, cleared his throat and fixed his shirt from the slight crumples that had been made from leaning over you.
You sat up slightly, eyes not leaving him. Watching as he turned his back to you, asking you to leave.
Wait a minute… An idea sparked in your mind.
He got his shot to experiment on you before. Maybe it’s your turn.
You shyly moved behind him, letting one of your hands move up between his shoulder blades. As he turns to question you, your other hand was placed on his jawline, enticing him to move his head closer to yours. You gently allowed your lips to meet. You noticed how surprisingly soft and warm his lips were as they gingerly pressed against yours, it wasn’t a big kiss just a delicate touch for your ‘research.’
As your faces parted you noticed his eyes still closed. It could have almost made you blush before he swiftly smacked them open. He looked furious now.
Shit. Was your only thought. What is he going to do now?
Before you could think another thought, he had grabbed your face, pulling you into a deeper kiss this time.
Oh…
This definitely is not what you expected at all.
His hungry mouth nipped at sucked at your own. You gasping in pleasure as you felt his greedy tongue entering your mouth. You couldn’t help but wrap your hands around the back of his neck as you pulled him in closer. You knew you were going to regret this later but all you could think of was now was Richard and the things you wanted him to do with you.
You whined when his lips finally parted from your own. He had you pushed up against a wall, his hands back on your throat. His head fallen down to his feet, he exhaled deeply before looking back up at you with a dark scowl.
"Get out.” He demanded you as he pushed himself off the wall, off of you.
“Richard I-”
“I said leave.” He cut you off coldly.
Your body was still leaning against the wall mostly because your brain wasn’t functioning in its usual way, your head was still spinning in thoughts, your lips still buzzing from the kiss. You opened your mouth trying to find the words to say. Maybe to apologise, you hadn’t meant to overstep any boundaries.
“Don’t you ever do what you’re told?” He complained once more before grabbing your arm and escorting you out of his bedroom.
“I don’t want to find you lingering outside my door again.” He gave you a final warning before slamming the door in your face. Leaving you alone in the dark hallway.
Left speechless you rubbed the back of your neck and let out a small huff before allowing yourself to wander back to your bedroom.
___
The next day Richard continued on as if nothing happened, only this time he avoided touching you. You were used to his 'fake' cuddles and gentle caresses when Connor was present but it suddenly all stopped. You would be lying to say you didn’t miss it.
Over the next few days, he also seemed less insistent on bringing you along with them to places. Something he had been doing a lot more of, after your trip to city hall. You still attempted to impress him with your spotless behaviour but it didn’t really seem to get his attention much more.
Had you messed this whole thing up?
On the other hand, a good thing that came out of this was, the less touchy Richard was with you the more Connor seemed to hang around. Giving you the chance to talk with him for a bit.
He jumped, slightly shocked when you first spoke to him. He hadn’t really expected it. A part of him thought that at this point Richard had you brainwashed to be a quiet little pet, he was pleasantly surprised to find out otherwise. Over the next week or so, without Richard's prying eyes, the two of you had the chance to chat to one another.
You had asked him about his interests and watched his face light up while talking about how he loved photography and going on nature walks. Something about him seemed very sincere to you.
When he asked about you, you admitted that you hadn’t really had many chances to be able to have a hobby, but you did tell him how you loved reading and how you would love to go on an adventure of your own one day. Explaining again how you never really got to see much of the outside world apart from your brief walks with his brothers. You leaving out the detail of your running away that one time, of course. The corner of his mouth lifted up as he asked if you would like to go with him next time he had the chance to go on one of his walks.
You delightfully agreed, admitting that it sounded wonderful.
“Great! Sounds like a plan.” He smiled back at you. He explained it probably wouldn't be for another while though as work and things in the city had been a little hectic but you understood and said you appreciated it none the less.
It started to look like maybe you had a friend here after all.

Authors Note: I originally wanted to rewrite the end of season 13 episode 1, the wheels up speech Emily gives in it felt all wrong but Olivias narritive kept dragging me back a few episodes so here we are. This is total indulgence of my OC but I hope you enjoy it.

When Emily called to let you know she wouldn’t be home tonight you could hear the worry in her voice loud and clear. Grabbing your satchel and car keys you made your way to Quantico, stopping for a round of coffees for the team who you knew would be beside Emily in pulling an all-nighter. You wouldn’t have gotten any sleep at home anyway, the only time you seemed to rest was when Em slept in your arms and even that was broken and irregular. Unlike some of the others, you had personal experience with prisons, and you knew just how dangerous gen pop was for any member of law enforcement. Fury simmered not far below your surface that Spencer had ever been put in this position, a fury that was fuelled by the constant defeat of the teams' efforts to ensure the safety that should have been given to him as an FBI agent awaiting trial.
It didn’t help that the lawyer fighting for Spencer was shamelessly flirting with your wife at every opportunity. You’d caught her cosied up to Em on more than one occasion under the guise of discussing Spencer’s case. Realistically all Fiona Duncan was doing was speculating, and not very well considering how inept she had been in arguing for Spencer’s rights. A small part of you had smirked delightedly when Emily told you of her plan to go behind Fiona's back to a judge to try and do what Fiona should have done since day one. You weren’t proud of that part of you by any means and normally you weren’t the jealous type but Fiona rubbed you the wrong way and either couldn’t take a hint or was deliberately ignoring your attempts to get her to back off.
The rest of the day was a blur of coffee orders and food collection. They were making progress but time seemed to be speeding up and you all knew you wouldn’t get there before Emily had to meet the judge. Penelope was damn good and the prints you needed to prove Lindsay Vaughn had been in that hotel room in Mexico were almost within reach as you kissed your wife goodbye and begged her not to punch out what was sure to be an infuriating lawyer arguing against her in the judges' chambers. With the prints sourced and en route to the courthouse none of you could stay still and you found yourself in an SUV with Luke JJ and Penelope heading to the correctional facility Spencer was in, ready to act once the judge made her decision. Penelope had insisted you come, both Luke and JJ had access to the prison but she did not and was too wound up to be left alone for however long it would take her teammates to get him out of there.
The FBI plates ensured you a parking spot right outside the pedestrian gate to the prison and you sat in anxious silence awaiting Emily’s call and trying not to think about what might be happening to Spencer inside the walls of the building next to you. The news that the judge had agreed to his release came via a text to JJ that simply read ‘Green’. A gasp of relief was echoed in each of you, Luke and JJ springing from the car immediately and disappearing within the gates. Penelope was sobbing with relief and you had one hand in hers, squeezing and rubbing your thumb over her fingers while your other hand was clamped over your own face in an attempt to stem your own tears. Tissues were producers by both of you and you laughed as you helped each other dry your eyes and fix your make up. There was still so much to do to get Diana back, but the sweet relief had you on a cloud as you sat back in your seat, watching the prison for any signs of movement.
You still weren’t sure why you decided to tell Garcia about the kiss you’d shared with Spencer a few nights before he’d gone on that ill-fated trip to Mexico. You had been watching the doors intently as she worked on her laptop, no conversation was needed but it was almost like the approaching reunion demanded that at least one other person understood the context. You’d been writing to him daily, not wanting to take a visitation slot away from the team meant you’d seen him only twice since he’d been in there and neither time had allowed you anything near the proximity you’d shared that night. You’d brought him over take out from his favourite Thai place, taking the few hours between his mom going to sleep and his eventual submission to his own tiredness as a space for the two of you to explore the spark there was between you.
So far only Spencer and JJ knew of yours and Emily’s open relationship, and you didn’t think even JJ knew of the blossoming connection between her best friend and her other best friends wife. It was delicate, new and as precarious as a lit candle outdoors but you’d felt it the moment you’d met him and that last night you’d spent together he confessed he’d felt it too. You’d been hugging him goodnight just inside the door of his apartment, his face buried against the spot where your neck met your shoulder. For someone so averse to human contact he was holding on to the embrace a long time and you weren’t about to break it either. You had those butterflies that happen when something new, something good is forming and time seemed to stop as Spencer loosened his hold on you so he could cup your face and draw your lips to his. You had melted into the kiss, his lips moulding to your own as he walked you backwards until you were pressed up against the door. You’d moaned softly into the kiss then and he had responded with equal enthusiasm, his long fingers in your hair and at your waist. You had just run your own hands into his soft brown curls when his mom coughed in her sleep and sent you both springing apart like teenagers caught making out after curfew. Stifling your laughter behind a hand you’d waved goodbye to him as you walked down the stairs and out of his building.
Movement inside the gates caught your attention and you placed a hand on Penelope’s arm to alert her to the development. Climbing from the SUV you could see the three agents through the wire fence, matching looks of exhausted relief on their faces but none more so than on Spencer’s. You stood back as the final gate opened and he embraced Penelope. Spotting you hanging back beside the car but not wanting to let Penelope go just yet he held out a hand to you and the three of you merged into a strangely comforting side hug. Spencer pressed a soft kiss to your forehead and released you both so you could all pile into the large black SUV and head back to Quantico to find a way to rescue Spencer’s mom.
With JJ and Spencer gone back to his apartment to look for clues and the rest of the team en route to Lindsays location you sat nervously at the back of the bat cave and waited for news. Realising Mr Scratch wasn’t involved was a source of relief but as Cat Adams was explained to you by Garcia and you helped her set up the video link you found yourself praying that Spencer would be strong enough to get through being behind bars with the psycho bitch. You sat and watched nervously as the team worked and Spencer played Cats twisted game, Penelope periodically reaching for your hand when things got particularly dark. Twin lines of tears ran down your cheeks when she told him how Lindsay had dosed and raped him in Mexico and despite knowing that it didn’t fit the timeline of events he had remembered and was therefore unlikely to be true you still clung to Garcia and cried. And then suddenly it was just you and the technical analyst again, the team chasing down Lindsay and exposing Cat for the manipulative obsessed psycho she was. Tears of sorrow merged with those of joy when Diana was found safely and Spencer told Cat to watch him take his life back. You watched their reunion from a desk in the bullpen, the team needed their space, you’d have all the time in the world to hold Spencer later when this was all settled down.
You were all set to take a nap on Emily’s surprisingly comfortable office couch when an agent escorted Derek Morgan in, matching looks of confusion on your faces at the other's presence in the BAU unit chiefs office. You were laughing at a story about a bet involving your wife and tequila when she appeared at the door. ‘Derek Morgan, oh my god.’ The old friends embraced, and he ribbed her gently about upgrading both her job and her partner without telling him. He was filling Em in on a text he received from Garcia that sounded like a trap and set you all back on edge again. Heading back down to the break room you put on yet another pot of coffee and dreamed of the moment you could finally fall into bed with your wife and get some much-needed sleep.
Dishing out the coffee to the tired team who needed it a hell of a lot more than you did you retired back to Emily’s couch. Going home seemed like a rookie mistake, with the way this case was going you knew you’d end up back here for something so until you were leaving with Emily you were going to stay and make coffee and help. You had just closed your eyes when you were being shaken awake by a panicked Penelope and it took you both a few attempts to get on the same page. Something had happened to the SUVs the BAU was travelling in, none of them could be reached, none of them had called in in over 10 minutes now. You were fully set to run out of there and drive after them when she told you reinforcements in the form of Matt Simmons from the IRT were on the way. He knew the Scratch case, and even with four kids you were willing to bed he’d had more sleep than you and Penelope combined in the past week.
Scanning the dark road ahead for signs of anything out of the ordinary you let Garcia’s pleas for backup float over you as the SUV sped along the route the team had been travelling. You spotted the spikes first, and Matt slammed on the breaks, coming to a stop in front of them, looking further up the road you spotted two vehicles identical to the one you were in at odd angles and obviously damaged. There was one thing going through your exhausted brain as you flung yourself from the back of the SUV and ran towards the cars, ‘find Emily, find Emily.’ You passed Rossi who you could hear speaking to Garcia and Matt behind you as you frantically searched the first car for any sign of your wife. Luke was helping a blood-soaked JJ from the second car and you dashed past them to check it. She wasn’t there but Stephen Walker was, his neck at an unnatural angle. You knew him well, having been in the same field of work, albeit in different parts of the world. Emily had great respect for him and he’d been making progress with the case. You didn’t even notice the tears now sliding down your face as you tore your eyes from his lifeless body and continued looking for Emily. She wasn’t there and you were starting to panic.
Running down the road a ways you took in the scene lit by the headlights of your SUV and the arriving ambulances and police cars. She wouldn’t have been thrown from one of the cars, there was no sign of that, the crash looked to have been a relatively slow pace collision. You noticed something glimmer on the ground and leant down, turning on the torch on your phone for a better look. It was blood, fresh and there were a few more drops as you turned away from the crash site. They vanished in the middle of the road and it became crystal clear to you that Emily had left the scene in another vehicle and considering the state of the rest of the team and the presence of blood all the way back here you highly doubted it was by her own free will. Numbly you walked back into the melee of injured agents just as Rossi realised Emily was missing. Your head was spinning and the tears were soaking into your shirt. ‘She’s gone.’ You choked out, your voice cracking from emotion as well as exhaustion.
Pointing out the spot where you’d found blood to Matt and the police officers you took a moment letting all your grief, anger, fear and pain from the past 24 hours seep out of you in a wracking sob. When a paramedic tried to get you to sit down you composed yourself, agreeing to ride into the hospital with Rossi and the others and get checked out. Emily needed you at your best and right now you felt like you were like a phone down to its final 5%, liable to shut down at any moment. With Tara being rushed to the hospital and into surgery and Rossi having been knocked out by the crash you had no one to question about what had happened in their SUV in the moments after. ‘We’ll get her back kiddo, Emily’s made of strong stuff.’ You nodded along to Rossi’s words, knowing they were true but between the limited sleep of the past few days and the stress of recent events you just hoped she wasn’t going to crack under Scratches methods.
Spencer arrived at the hospital just as the ambulances did and he rushed to your side. ‘He’s got Emily, and we’ve no idea how hurt she is.’ You whispered as he held you tightly. You waited for him to break the hug, unwilling to deprive him after so many weeks locked up but when he did you sent him into JJ, she seemed rattled and needed him more than you did right now. You took a few breaths to try to calm the pounding of your heart and waved off the medic who approached you. You weren’t lying, you hadn’t been in the crash and even though you felt close to collapse you knew it would take too long to pick yourself back up again if you did. Spotting a vending machine you grabbed an energy drink and some off-brand health snack and forced yourself to finish both before going to find the others. Luke passed you, looking for Spencer and told you to go into Rossi who was alone in a room and obviously in pain. ‘You need to be treated Dave, where are the doctors?’ ‘No, wait, I need Luke and the kid first.’ They rushed in behind you and Rossi began giving them directions that were neither urgent nor making any kind of sense to any of you. Spencer muttered to Luke that they must have given Rossi something in the ambulance and was about to turn and go for a doctor but you stepped up between them and put a hand on each mans arm to stop them. You knew a coded message when you heard one, and you knew Rossi hadn’t been given anything yet. He nodded to you and you nodded back indicating you understood not to clarify verbally. You swallowed a laugh when he called them a pair of assclowns and the three of you walked out of the ER, all wondering what the hell you’d find in Rossi’s office.
You were relieved to see Spencer drove an older model car and hadn’t come in a Bureau SUV and after you climbed into the back you started riffling through your satchel, extracting a metal box from within the book you always kept in there. Luke and Spencer had begun to talk and you couldn’t risk that, not now. Opening the box you threw your phone in and thrust it forward between the two men, tapping their shoulders to get their attention. You took the earwig from Luke’s ear and crudely signed asking if they had more than one phone. When both men shook their heads you sealed the box and put it back in your bag, before turning back to their questioning faces. ‘The box blocks phone signal.’ Spencer caught on first and nodded but Luke was a harder sell. ‘Look I know you’re married to our unit chief and you worked with Emily in London but the only people I’ve ever known to carry a portable Faraday cage and homeland security and CIA. So which are you, Olivia?’ ‘You told me you were UK based, MI5?’ Spencer asked softly. Disclosing your previous status in British Intelligence went against a ton of guidelines and a very specific NDA you’d signed, only Emily as your spouse knew the full extent of your role there but you nodded to Spencer. ‘I was a liaison with Interpol, I’m technically still on their books and paranoia doesn’t vanish when you leave that kind of job. It’s like the military.’ Luke cut you off with a nod as Spencer pulled back out of the parking space and took off towards Quantico. ‘You never really leave.’ Luke said as he caught your eye and nodded.
Penelope was impressed with your Faraday cage, she had been ready to take your phones into one she’d gifted Rossi before you began delving into the locked drawer. Files upon files on Peter Lewis, Stephen really had been making progress, and you grabbed an armful along with the four others and went to find a free desk. When Spencer found the AH text and took off to the round table room you stayed close on his heels. He was right, Emily would never have let Hotch expose himself to help trap Scratch and from what you knew of Hotch through her you agreed that he never would have signed a text AH. Your brain glanced on a snippet of conversation you’d had with her about messaging apps and when Matt made the conclusion that Stephen, with a background in counterintelligence, could have constructed the entire text chain it burst into your brain fully formed. You’d used a similar breadcrumb trail to corner a suspected homegrown terrorist back in the UK sprinkling in one or two extra lures along with the main attraction. You were reading the messages through again and one word stood out. ‘What’s B-CAP?’ You asked and they turned in surprise, seemingly having forgotten you were sitting behind them. You weren’t offended, intelligence work was rarely done by bouncing theories off each other verbally, not outside a secure facility anyway and you’d been keeping quiet out of habit.
Spencer was obviously frustrated but when he hustled Matt and Penelope out to let him work on it you stayed put and the look in your eyes told him not to even attempt moving you. You’d stay quiet but you were not leaving, Emily needed you on this too and he wasn’t the only genius in town. He paced and spoke to himself as he worked on it and you let him. It was as obvious to you as it had been to Luke that he was experiencing post-traumatic stress symptoms, it looked different in everyone you’d seen with it but there were enough common indicators to make the deduction safely. Finding some blank paper you started working through the why of this message. What did he need, where had he been, profiling was going to crack this, you cling to that and pushed the thought of what Scratch might be doing to Em aside.
The book slamming against the window startled you as well as Matt and Penelope. ‘Sorry, I’m sorry, I should have seen it sooner.’ Spencer said to you and he dragged one of your pages of notes over and started circling words under the how column, drawing lines across your work, trying to keep up with his own brain. B-CAP was a hallucinogenic, your list on how Scratch did what he did and ‘WHY HONDURAS??’ scrawled along a margin had sparked the memory of iowaska tea and peyote. If Scratch was running out of ingredients for his mist it made sense that he’d be in Central America searching out alternatives. While Penelope and Matt took off to track down the churches that used iowaska you stayed back with Spence who was pacing Emily’s office much in the way you’d been doing while he was in prison. Closing the door behind you you sat down on the couch and motioned for him to come sit with you, your eyes pleading with him in a way you knew words wouldn’t convey even if you had the brainpower to summon them.
He needed to relax, even a little so when you wrapped your arms around him and drew him into a slouchy cuddle hug you ignored the look on his face that was questioning if this was the time, stroking his hair as you held him. ‘If I catch him I’ll kill him for this, I know I will.’ He mumbled into your chest as he laid his weary head against your shoulder and surrendered to the scalp massage. You felt similarly if you were honest, you wanted to put this bastard somewhere he couldn’t hurt any of you anymore and a grave seemed like the only place that would ensure that. His phone pinging from the table where he’d set it after Garcia and Simmons left, breaking the moment you’d managed to create. Spence read the text and his hazel eyes, so large in his prison thinned face met your tired green gaze.‘They’ve got his location.’
You hadn’t let him object, you weren’t even sure if he was going to and you slid into the passenger seat of the SUV as Spencer got behind the wheel and sped out of Quantico. You weren’t armed, you had no licence to carry in the States so your focus was on trying to ensure Spence and Emily got out of here alive. Bike rose in your throat as your mind drifted back to what Scratch was doing to her. Tara had seen her dosed with his chemicals, he’d suggested she was badly injured. If this went the way of typical torture strategies he would try to induce a near-death experience to get Em to give up Hotches location. Everyone agreed this might be what broke his hold on her. Emily hadn’t had the typical white light experience when she had almost died fighting Ian Doyle and the dissonance of a classic warm white light suggestion with her lived experience would give her the edge she needed to rip apart whatever fantasy Scratch had led her into believing. It was what happened after that that made you feel sick. What would Mr Scratch do when his drugs no longer worked.
The SUV tired screamed as you slid to a stop between the abandoned warehouses and Spence left the keys in the ignition, instructing you to stay with the car and send in backup when it arrived. Fear and exhaustion immobilised you and he was gone before you could delay him. Occupying yourself by keeping your ears and eyes open and mentally penning a letter to the FBI armoury about gas masks and nervously waited for more of the team to show up. Gunshots from inside the building did not help your resolve to stay put, but flashing lights and two more SUVs appeared just as you’d opened the door to get out. You shouted the situation to them and watched as Matt and Luke disappears through the door Spencer had gone in. Another shot ringing out sent you running for the door and you hugged the wall as you crept inside.
Footsteps were moving above you and you slowly made your way through the building. Movement around a corner had you recoiling and waiting for an indication of who it was. You really didn’t need to get shot right now, and you were considering how you’d signal to the team it was you and not Scratch when you heard Emily’s voice pleading with Spencer to stay with her. You’d whispered her name aloud without realising it and came face to face with the business end of Spencer’s gun before he realised it was you and quickly dropped it. You gripped his arm tightly as Emily fell into your embrace, pulling him in so she could hang on to him too. They were safe, they were both safe and here and you clung to them, scarcely daring to breathe in case the moment dissolved. Luke’s voice over the radio confirming that Scratch was down made you loosen your hold on the two agents, sliding an arm around Emily’s waist you helped Spencer get her outside.
Peter Lewis looked small lying dead on the concrete. Alvez was hunkered down at his feet when you approached with the others. ‘He fell trying to escape.’ Alvez explained. There was nothing else to say but you leant down and pressed your fingers to the exposed pulse point on his neck just to be sure. Em shook her head but gave you a small smile as you stood and returned to her side, she was well used to your paranoia. It was over, finally. One of the scariest people the BAU had gone up against was dead. Sirens in the background indicated the now redundant backup arriving and you took Emily’s outstretched hand and walked with them back to the vehicles.
Stephen Walker's funeral came a few days later. The entire team had been put on mandatory leave for 6 weeks and nobody felt like celebrating but a family dinner wasn’t always a celebration. You’d compromised with Rossi, it would be at his house but you were doing all the organising. It was a subdued affair, everyone was tired and clad in black and conversations weren’t the raucous joy-filled kind you’d come to expect from the team who were more family than colleagues. You’d never come across a team like them before, their strength and resilience astounded you and though you’d only known them a few months you felt as much a part of the family as anyone. It was the reaction to a late guest that showed just how close this group was. Spencer had been teaching Henry a similar card trick and you’d been laughing at Penelope trying to eavesdrop on the secret to the trick when Rossi reappeared from the house with a fresh bottle of red wine and accompanied by Derek Morgan and two faces you knew only from photographs, Aaron and Jack Hotchner.
Surprised and excited cries came from both the adults and children present, embraces and introductions were exchanged and chairs drawn up. Hotch wasn’t coming back to the team despite the threat from Mr Scratch being neutralised. He loved being a full-time dad and as you watched Henry and Jack excitedly catching up you understood, perhaps more than many of the others around you. You’d given up MI5 to move here with Emily. Spies and spooks didn’t just pick up with a new agency when they relocated, you’d known this was the end of that career but she meant more to you than the job. That had become crystal clear for you over the past week with the team, you’d utilised the skills working in intelligence had given you but you felt no desire to step back into that world. The warm hand in yours and the affectionate hazel gaze from across the table felt right and you were excited to see where this new chapter and this new family would take you.
