#emily headcanon overwatch

Headcanon idea: Emily is a writer (which I got from a fanfic, but not this other bit) and is just as famous as Lena in her own right.

Another is that Lena was a huge flirt before meeting Emily. Imagine Angela looking for Lena, telling her they have to get back to base and seeing her chatting up a load of local ladies.

I've said it before but I love the hc that Emily is Moira's niece, and before people say it, and I've seen people say it, yes I know not all red heads are or have to be related. I'm not an idiot nor am I focusing on them "looking similar", the reason I like this HC is because it adds a lot to Emily's character while not taking away anything from Moira. It's basically the reason why I think that Emily is an art teacher.

With Emily it adds relations with other Overwatch characters outside of Lena. She would have a dynamic with Cassidy and Genji that isn't necessarily based off of her relationship with Lena. It also adds a little into her own character as I doubt her and Moira would still be in contact, let alone get along. I could honestly see Emily withholding the information that she's related to Moira, not because Lena would be upset (I honestly doubt she would care), but because it something she doesn't want to talk about.

And it doesn't take away from Moira, sure it gives her sister, but it doesn't really mean she has to have a relationship. Or maybe she does care? Idk that's up to you, it a HC do what you want with it. What I mean is it doesn't take away from Moira being a villain.

I have several headcannons regarding Tracer and her relationship with Emily

So Lena originally was just supposed to be a pilot that helped Overwatch squads get to their mission locations, however while she was flying Winston who was transporting some of his inventions to an ecopoint that were meant to help with further gathering data they were attacked by a group of mercenaries hired by a company that wanted to sabotage the Ecopoint program

Lena proved her skills as a pilot by avoiding nearly every rocket shot at them, the only one that managed to hit was at the beginning when the mercenaries still had the element of surprise. Later when Winston began work on the Slipstream he nominated Lena to be the test pilot

It would be around this time that Lena was set up on a blind date with Emily, however it was a few days after the test run for the Slipstream so Lena would unfortunately miss it

Now the Slipstream, it was sabotaged. The company that was funding it was facing the risk of bankruptcy and so had set up an insurance in case of the failure of the Slipstream. There was also a disgruntled scientist who had a similar idea to the Slipstream (albeit different enough it was obvious to anyone else that Winston hadn’t copied it but the scientist didn’t care) that the company hired to sabotage the Slipstream. Now what the company wanted was something that would just cause the slipstream to not work, but the scientist wanted to ruin Winston, and he also had a theory that if proven correct would allow him to upstage the gorilla. If the sabotage had not taken place, the Slipstream would’ve worked albeit with a few bugs that needed fixing

So the Slipstream incident happened and the company was saved from bankruptcy, and the scientist bided his time. The sabotage wouldn’t be discovered unless someone looked at the Blueprints Winston sent to engineering and the blueprints that engineering actually got

Anyway, Lena comes back and is saved by Winston with the Chronal Accelerator thus ruining the scientist’s plans without ever knowing of them

Face forward to the events of the Kings Row Uprising and this is when Lena and Emily first officially meet where during the cleanup Lena saves her from some of the Null Sector warbots remaining. Sometime later Lena is granted a vacation so she can see home again since she’s deemed stable enough to be away and they run into each other again at Lena’s favorite pub

However the way they met in the pub is because Lena got into a bar fight, she didn’t start and she doesn’t know what started it but she definitely ended it, and Emily offered to help bandage her cuts up and also ask Lena out on a date

It wasn’t until their seventh date did they both realize that the blind date they had been set up for several months ago was with the other, but they had a good laugh about it

Emily is a artist for a comic book company and does some fashion designing on the side when she’s tight on cash but her work does allow her to work from home a lot

When Overwatch was shut down Lena wallowed in her room for a long time, until Emily wore a “special” sweater and got her out of that rut and helped her try for a few jobs

None of them stuck however and since Lena was banned from ever flying again she started doing some vigilante work, setting up an outfit (her Graffiti skin) and started helping out where she could while trying to remain inconspicuous

For the most part she succeeded and did a lot of good work, until Mondatta and the events of the Underground comics, then several months later the Recall went out

Tracer almost hesitated to go, her and Emily were going strong and she had started to get used to not being part of Overwatch but Emily told her she would be fine, and that no matter what she would always be there for her

That would be the moment when Lena decided that the moment she got a break and could see Emily again she was proposing, not knowing that Emily was also gonna start looking for a ring

Now for some smaller headcannons

Emily is related to Moira, just because it would be really funny. She doesn’t bring it up because Moira reached out to her niece and told her not to mention the familial relationship between them (this is when Moira was fired from Overwatch and disgraced) because she doesn’t want her niece’s life to get messed for it

Neither Lena or Emily can cook a full meal, they can make amazing teas and desserts but the moment they try to make a full meal they mess it up in some way that ends up with them eating out

Emily has a gun and she knows how to use, she’s never had to bring it out but it’s easy to reach, she showed it to Lena when they first moved in together and it helped Lena fell more secure with her rejoining Overwatch and when Null Sector attacked London because Emily would have some way to defend herself

If it ever comes to light that the Slipstream was sabotaged it’s unclear who will be more pissed off about it between the couple, it’s Emily. Look Lena would be all sorts of angry about it but Emily actually has a temper unlike her girlfriend and has always been upset that they didn’t get a chance to meet sooner because of the Slipstream’s failure

Finally my thoughts on something else unrelated

I want Emily to become a playable character because we have all sorts of familial relationships between the various heroes in the game but not one that is explicitly romantic, not hinted at they are just straight up in a relationship

I just want that sort of dynamic in game and if it actually happens with another set of characters maybe my opinion will change

'Worst Habit' Headcanons!

Here's some sfw headcanons for what I think Overwatch members' worst habits are c: (I rambled a bit so it's under the cut as per usual)

Winston: It's obvious that Winston loves peanut butter, which is fine in and of itself. I think he has a really bad habit of leaving empty pots around the Overwatch HQs, especially his room though. That, and making the worst combinations imaginable. Like peanut butter and spicy chips, or peanut butter and eggs, that sort of thing. He would convince everyone to try it, and feel rejected if they didn't. It's his worst habit but not necessarily a toxic one; otherwise he's a pretty sensible individual.

Lena Oxton / Tracer: Tracer's worst habit is definitely picking at her nails. She tends to do so as a self soothing action, but she doesn't know when to stop and it causes her to have scabs sometimes that Emily has to mend for her. It's something she's aware of but nothing helps to stop her from doing so; she's tried picking stones, those zit popping toys, everything. Nothing feels as good as picking her skin when she's anxious.

Mei-Ling Zhou / Mei: When Mei's in a low mood and is struggling mentally, she sometimes finds it hard to avoid not talking down herself, or viewing herself negatively. It seeps into the atmosphere in HQ, and it's something that she struggles to get herself out of. Once the bad thoughts start, she can't control them and struggles to do so, especially when they involve her survivor's guilt.

Genji Shimada / Genji: Genji used to have several bad habits he's learned to stop over the years, like playing games in his bed, eating unhealthy food too much, smoking probably at one point or another. But he still cant shake the bad habit of skipping training sometimes because he can't be bothered. If he's not in the mood, there's no way he's gonna be seen in the gym strength and ability training unless Brigitte drags him there.

Reinhardt Wilhelm / Reinhardt: Reinhardt has a tendency to overdramatise everything; from his speech to his stories. This applies too to his emotions, and he feels them too close to his heart as though his skin was made of paper. He struggles with his ability to regulate his emotions, and it's something he's aware of but views it as something positive, rather than negative. He wouldn't admit that it's his worst habit, but everyone around him would.

Brigitte Lindholm / Brigitte: Brigitte takes care of herself very well; she views the human body as a machine that needs rest, supplements, nutrition, etc. But her worst habit is remembering to drink when she's working on something or busy with a mission. The amount of times Angela has had to admit her for dehydration isn't even funny, and Reinhardt is always getting yelled at by Torbjorn for 'letting it happen to her'. It's one of those things where when Brigitte is focused on something, she forgets everything else going on.

Angela Ziegler / Mercy: Angela has a very bad problem with doomscrolling online. Once she starts, she cant stop even when she gets ads telling her to take a break. She doesn't necessarily enjoy it, and it keeps her up late into the night, but it's a distraction for her from everything going on in the world. Don't ask to see her app usage history; it'll entirely be instagram reels and tiktok with like 9hrs a day average usage.

Echo: Sometimes, Echo fails to match her responses to the mood of the situation. She tends to take a direct and neutral stance on everything, so her worst habit is that sometimes she comes off as though she's playing devil's advocate, when she isn't. She's just simply showing all aspects that the person she's talking to might not have considered. She's a very logical being, but the way in which she does this sometimes comes off negatively on other people.

Vivian Chase / Sojourn: With Vivian, I can imagine she has a bad habit of getting stuck in nostalgic loops. She likes to look back on the past, understand what happened and what went wrong, but if she lets herself do it too much or for too long, she lingers on her mistakes and it affects her mentally. Similarly to Mei, she feels survivors guilt and feels ashamed for the events in Canada that happened to her sister and niece years ago. Vivian loves a blast from the past, but struggles to regulate how far back to go and how much to think about it.

Lúcio Correia dos Santos / Lucio: Lucio has a very bad habit of staying up too late, working on music or plans for the next day, to the point where he misses sleep and is extremely groggy in the morning. It's something he gets distracted with and loses track of time with. It doesn't help either that he has time blindness and gets lost in the music.

Cole Cassidy / Cassidy: Smoking is his worst habit; everyone working in Overwatch will tell you that. He refuses to try vaping, and prefers cigars to anything else. His cough is disgusting at times, and he has nicotine rush every morning after his first cigar, which makes it hard for anyone to talk to him and get a response from him properly. It's something he has no intention of stopping, as he's here to live a good life not a long one, but everyone has an issue with it when he smokes around them because his favourite brand absolutely reeks.

Fareeha Amari / Pharah: Fareeha holds grudges too long; she struggles with forgiveness and moving forwards. She won't admit it, but it's something that affects her relationship to her family and previous friends. If she's wronged as well, it only takes that one moment for her to give up emotionally and mentally on that friendship. It's not rational, and she understands that, but it's something she views as another form of protection, like armour against people who could hurt her or abandon her.

Jean-Baptiste Augustin / Baptiste: Baptiste is a bad influence when it comes to drinking and has a bad habit of not knowing his own limit. To this day, he still wonders how he's the first one to be absolutely drunk when everyone else around him is barely tipsy (even after he's had 3 shots one after another of fireball on an empty stomach). He indulges in it too much and he doesn't know his own limit to drinking, so you can imagine Cole and Angela have had to comfort him while his head's in the toilet bowl.

Aleksandra Zaryanova / Zarya: Zarya has a tendency to give everyone grace and understanding, even when they don't deserve it. She gives people too many chances, and too many opportunities to use her. It's something she's working on, but she views the world in a more positive light than others and wants to keep the optimism she has for other people.

Hana Song / D.Va: Hana has been told for years she holds herself to too high standards with her work and efforts in Overwatch, and she works herself to the bone. It's something she doesn't view as wrong, but it impacts her body and mind SEVERELY. Angela and Brigitte have had several conversations about taking breaks and not pushing herself too hard with staying up late for work, skipping meals, exhausting herself on missions, etc. It's her worst habit and even she would agree, but she doesn't intend to change it when it gives her the results they need.

Bastion: Bastion's worst habit is getting distracted easily; he's like a kid in a candy shop sometimes with the places Overwatch takes him, and he loves to show Ganymede everything he finds and take them places he enjoyed. It's bothersome sometimes, especially if he's nowhere to be found on a mission because he's busy showing Ganymede the other birds near their temporary station. It is what it is though, and seeing Bastion happy and on their side is something they appreciate.

omg you have no idea, I can, I will and I do talk about them.for hours for anyone who's willing to listen.

Usually I have more AU based headcanons but here are some general ones!

They first met during uprising when Tracer saved Emily's life, but got to talk months later when Tracer visited a coffeeshop in the rebuild London, Emily recognized her as the girl that saved her life and offers to buy her a coffee.

Emily's mom/family absolutely LOVE Lena, she's like another daughter to them

She has a sister with two kids and they love it when its babysitting session with their aunt and her gf

Emily is always cold. She's always freezing, Lena is a human heater and that makes her the perfect cuddle partner

Because of Em being cold, they spend vacations in warmer climates (referring to the stormrising voiceline Tracer has)

Lena likes to wake up early and go for a jog and Em loves to sleep in

Sometimes when Lena wakes up early and is already done with her run she makes her girlfriend breakfast

Em has caught her more than once doing a kitchen concert while making breakfast

The other Overwatch members have bets on who proposes and when

Lena gets down and the ring out first, but Em also pulls out a ring

Emily's nicknames from Lena include love, Em, Emmy, princess (especially after questwatch)

Em sometimes calls Lena darling when she wants to annoy her

Winston is ofc best man at the wedding

They get two kids, the first one is just a baby Emily found during the Omnic crisis, his name is Dion. He's more focused on her

This is a self-indulgent secondary blog for all things Lena “Tracer” Oxton. I’ll post or reblog anything from character analyses and memes to fan art and fan fiction, and I’ll sometimes rant about lore inconsistencies or fan interpretations, so long as it ties into Tracer. Emily is the one exception to this rule, but they ARE frequently bought together. Do not separate. During the height of Overwatch’s popularity in 2016, I felt an inexplicable connection to Tracer that I have never experienced with any other fictional character. I guess some people might call it kinning? It all started when the “Alive” cinematic showed up in my YouTube recommendations. Several obsessive replays later, I would go on to watch many videos about the game itself, and I could not get Overwatch out of my head during my eighth-grade classes. Ugh, how time flies. Anyway, I think Tracer made past me realize I wasn’t allosexual or cisgender. Whoopsies! The open beta for Overwatch eventually rolled around on May 5th, and my brain chemistry has never recovered since.

My posts could be better sorted, but there is a method to the madness. They will always be tagged with "#overwatch", its mentioned offshoots (e.g. "#questwatch", "mirrorwatch"), and other related topics (e.g. "#lego" if I talk about the LEGO Tracer minifigure, "#fortnite" if I talk about wanting Tracer in Fortnite).

Then, I'll tag Tracer skins when applicable, followed by "#tracer" and "#lena oxton" (such as "#overwatch 2 #tracer #lena oxton" if the post contains their Overwatch 2 design).

I'll tag other relevant heroes with their in-game names and most used canon names afterward. If their in-game name includes their real name, I'll only tag them once. Soldier: 76 is tagged with both "#soldier: 76" and "#jack morrison" (as opposed to "#john francis morrison"), and Kiriko is tagged with "#kiriko kamori" (as opposed to "#kiriko yamagami").

Any relevant ships will be tagged after every hero relevant to the post is listed. "#lemon tea", which will always be tagged after Lena and Emily, is the one exception to this rule because they are very important.

Lastly, I'll sometimes tag posts into a category. The two most frequent tags of this type are "#meme" and "#art". I've never bothered to tag most of my posts similarly because I can never decide how to categorize them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Headcanons

I headcanon Lena as a sex-repulsed asexual lesbian. Emily is the only person they've ever had romantic feelings for, and they are soulmates. (I do not ship Lena with anyone else, and I am Widowtracer's #1 hater.)

I also headcanon that Lena falls somewhere under the non-binary umbrella and primarily uses they/them pronouns. I used to feel "wrong" for having such a headcanon, so my older posts might not reflect that.

Soldier 76 and Tracer [warning: long post]

A lot of this boils down to headcanon, because this storyline is clearly incomplete (and will probably be expanded upon later...hopefully) and also is often implied rather than said aloud, but I really do think Soldier and Tracer have the kind of father-daughter dynamic in canon, the same way people give him and Dva one in fanon.

At this point, I think it’s pretty well-established that Jack wants to look out for Lena’s safety. Consider what he says when you select her in the Uprising event:

(This line truly touches my cold, dead heart.)

And when he sees her get killed in-game: (I believe the ‘seeing teammate get killed’ voicelines were taken out of the game because there’s already so much audio clutter. Which is understandable, but a bummer, because there was so much relationship insight in them)

Plus the iconic:

A lot of the time, people have the idea of the new generation of Overwatch being the ‘kids’. The thing is, while someone like Cassidy might have been Overwatch’s kid, I’d say Lena was Jack’s kid in particular. He quickly takes a liking to her, and she admires him a lot. I think she even still would defend him. In the London Calling comic, despite her polite smile, she doesn’t seem to like the public perception of other Overwatch members:

When you look at someone like Angela, who clearly holds resentment or at least regret towards Overwatch’s fall, versus Lena, who seems to remember it fondly and hate how people perceive it...it’s clear to me that she still believes in it. And not just in the abstract sense of ‘likes its original ideas’; she believes in how it was, including the leadership.

Including the Strike Commander. 

As of right now, we haven’t gotten a ton of canon material regarding the relationships between the characters between the time of Retribution and the Zurich explosion. We have the Ana comic where she ‘dies’, but that doesn’t really go very deeply into anyone’s mindset other than Ana herself. The scraps we have at least seem to imply that Lena fit right into the Overwatch ‘family’. 

With that thought in mind, I wouldn’t be surprised if she formed a bond with the Strike Commander, even with the bubble he put himself in. She was certainly at least in touch with the people closer to him. She also seems to be quite familiar with Ana. 

I think Jack cares about Lena and has a specific protectiveness of her, moreso than the other ‘next generation’. Like some kind of father, if you will. (Also, the gay and lesbian thing might be a coincidence, but it’s still worth considering...)

Now, let’s talk about parallels. (Thank you to @lenaperseveranceoxton for inspiring parts of this post, echoing a lot of how I already felt, but giving a couple new details I hadn’t thought of, in this post )

There are a lot of things about Soldier 76 and Tracer that are similar, and I don’t think this was an accident or excessively basic characterization. And I think Jack picks up on this. (I’m unsure about if Lena does)

Now, I could talk about how he refers to her ‘potential’, but I think the biggest piece of direct evidence here is this part of the Uprising comic. Lena comes to try and convince Jack to put troops in London, despite the fact that many governments are very deadset on not doing that. (When you think about it, that probably does mean he put his surrogate daughter over the law...be gay do crimes moment.)

The thing that informs Jack to make the decision to send troops into London is this after his conversation with her: 

The implication I got was that Tracer, with all of her spirit and belief in doing what was right, reminded Jack of himself when he was younger and more idealistic. It reminded him what he originally created all of this for.

And while this is hopeful and all, Jack does eventually lose that type of idealism (well, to some extent, but I already went off about that elsewhere). Meanwhile, Lena is left with it.

Now, there’s also Vincent and Emily. Lena is still with Emily, and her decisions are often influenced by her caring for her girlfriend. Lena will do things to protect her and retain their happy relationship.

Meanwhile, Jack split with Vincent over his job. Unlike some people, I don’t think Jack is still in love with Vincent as a person; Vincent represents the life he gave up for the Commander position, and how sad he is about that. It’s not even about who Vincent is now. Who knows if they’d even still be together? What it’s about is living a life with a family and not constant stress. Something simpler.

So, Lena is someone who hasn’t given up that life yet. But she’s still young enough that she someday could.

But all of that just leads me to the speculation that Jack doesn’t want Lena to go into this, because he fears that she’ll end up the same way he did. The idealistic person getting their dreams crushed by the cruel world of politics. He wouldn’t want her to be part of new Overwatch, because he thinks she’s putting herself in danger.

You know what I think would be cool? If ultimately, that was what pulled him back into this whole fight once and for all. Obviously he has plenty of reasons to want to go back, but I’d love if what pushed him over the edge was protecting Lena and feeling responsible for keeping her from what he went through. It’d be a nice parallel, and a moment where he could show how much he genuinely does care. And most importantly, it would show that he still has something to learn from the younger people. I think that’d be a good growth moment for him, and could even be a nice theme for the audience.

Okay, maybe I also just want them to have cute moments together. Maybe I want him to try and take her fishing or some other lame old man thing. Is that so wrong?

In conclusion: sometimes a family is a gay old man, his lesbian daughter, and her cute girlfriend.

An Emily headcanon of mine: She’s a massive nerd. She canonically likes to play the overwatch equivalent of DnD. Now, that doesn’t necessarily make you a *massive* nerd, but I’ve decided to embellish that factor. Tracer is a dork. Emily is a nerd.

Ok so my HC for MW!Pharah is that she essentually takes Ashe's role as a gang leader. With that MW!Pharah, going with the flipping morals stuff, has a very negative relationship with MW!Ana, absolutely being horrified at the mere mention of her being like Ana. A big story point for her is also that MW!Cassidy is the person who helped her escape Talon.

In my opinion MW!Emily takes on Soldier 76's role, specifically in the fact of her relationship with Lena. I've seen a few people disagree with this but MW!Tracer very obviously modeled after Reaper with her motivation and goal. Yes she takes Widow's role in some story point but her being modelled after Reaper is important to acknowledge. Also I don't like the idea of Emily not being relevant to Tracer's story in a universe like this when they could have easily done the same wither Gerard. That got ranty but yeah, MW!Emily is looking for answers on what happened to Lena and is the main advocate that she can be saved.

With Venture I haven't really made a deep post on, basically I think a Mirrorwatch Venture would be Indiana Jones. An archeologist who has little care for the historical and cultural value of artifacts.

With Mauga I picture him being a new MW!Overwatch recruit, however, he's been active since the Samoan Ecopoint was taken by the Deepsea raiders. Him being a main defender. I picture MW!Mauga being someone who cares deeply on who things effect the people and environment around him.

Definitely betrayal. Lena knows a lot of people, and believes in a lot of people, but only really trusts a handful of them. That trust has been put to the test again, and again, and again, between the Slipstream and Mondatta and the fall of Overwatch, the pool of people she trusts grows smaller every day. This, of course, is not helped by her innate ability to make a decision about someone in a split second and take a while to change it. Poor Hanzo endured weeks of her judgmental looks and pointed silence, while Genji pleaded with her to give the man a break. She knew the stories, and wasn't about to let vapid promises change her opinion until Hanzo provided himself over and over again. This is tested again by people like Jack Morrison, Cole Cassidy, and Genji Shimada himself, briefly. In her eyes, they left her to pick up the pieces of Overwatch while they moved on. Lena was abandoned again, while they were able to disappear given their own natures and the nature of Blackwatch. Only for them to waltz back in, alive and well, while she mourned them. Yes, this included Ana too. Of course, in actuality, everyone was just trying to do what they could to survive. Lena was too attached and too unable to let go of Overwatch that she failed to see if they stayed, they would likely be dead or tossed into a black site somewhere to rot. It's not that she will never forgive them, but it would just take some work for those she trust to re-earn that trust again.

Kids. Lena doesn't believe that kids are right for her, given hers and Emily's lifestyle, but in those beats between seconds where everything is quiet, Lena dares to allow herself the fantasy of them. Settling down somewhere with Emily, building a family, watching kids grow, it's a wonderful fantasy. While she doesn't believe it's her fantasy to own, she does enjoy just being around kids. Fareeha was probably on the older side when Lena was brought onto the team, but that didn't stop Lena from adopting her as a younger sibling. Same with Brig, playing airplanes with the girl while her dad worked in the shop behind them. Something about kids enjoying life despite all the bad stuff going on around them makes her heart sing.
