Hideo Tanaka was so horny that he flew Emika all the way to Japan and paid her 10 million dollars and honestly you’ve gotta respect that.

131. Emika’s a boba tea and mocha addict. When she and Hideo were dating, she got at least one of them on every date

“...That day, when you were just a boy being interviewed on the radio, hiding your broken heart, you reached a girl searching for something to hold on to. She found you, and you helped her pull herself up.”
Hideo stares at me, his gaze searing me to my core. “I didn’t know,” he whispered.
“You are forever a piece of my story. I couldn’t turn my back on you without turning my back on myself. I had to try.” My quiet words hang in the air. “I had to hold out my hand to you.”
--Emika Chen and Hideo Tanaka, from Wildcard by Marie Lu
I once read somewhere that all books have an emotional heart (this article called it a mirror point) which is basically the point of the story. I firmly believe that this quote is the emotional heart not just of Widcard, but of the entire Warcross duology. This is the point of these books. This is the point of Himika as a ship.
You pulled me up when I most needed someone, so I’m going to do the same for you.

So it looks like I fell, hit the keyboard and accidentally wrote two chapters for a Warcross/Wildcard fanfic.
Third chapter in the works and likely to turn smutty...

Wildcard (Warcross #2), Marie Lu
4.5/5 stars
A really great ending to a truly magnificent series. Marie Lu completely immerses you in the world of Warcross, and in this book, the stakes only get higher.
Emika’s character, and those of her team, never wavered. We were introduced to other cool characters, got to know Zero and Hideo better, and watched how the world was affected by the neural link.
This is edge-of-your seat fun. If you like video games, competitions, action and plot twists, this is for you. I could never guess everything that was coming, and I totally loved how the story ending (exactly what I thought would happen, given the circumstances).
I wish Warcross was real!

Asher: You can’t trust Hideo, he’s a mind-controlling dictator that will soon have the power to control us all!
Emika: You don’t have all the facts!
Asher: Which are?
Emika: I love him!

Headcanon that when Hideo eventually gets off house arrest and goes to public places with Emika he wears jeans and video game tee-shirts and sweaters. This turns out to actually be a remarkably good disguise because apparently the words “casually dressed” and “Hideo Tanaka” don’t go together in anyone’s minds. People tend to recognize Emika first (because of the rainbow hair) and then recognize Hideo by association.
