South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law in an unannounced late-night TV address Tuesday, accusing the country’s main opposition party of sympathizing with North Korea and anti-state activities. But soon after, South Korean lawmakers voted to block the martial law decree.
The president is obligated to comply with the vote under South Korean law. However, it is unclear whether that will happen. The martial law decree published shortly before lawmakers assembled in parliament declared all political and parliamentary activities to be prohibited.
Regardless, the president’s cabinet must “deliberate” and review the decision to lift martial law, according to the constitution. more at CNN

Why did South Korea's president declare martial law - and what now?
#South Korea's president shocked the country on Tuesday night when#out of the blue#he declared martial law in the Asian democracy for the first time in nearly 50 years.#Yoon Suk Yeol's drastic decision - announced in a late-night TV broadcast - mentioned “anti-state forces” and the threat from North Korea.#But it soon became clear that it had not been spurred by external threats but by his own desperate political troubles.#Still#it prompted thousands of people to gather at parliament in protest#while opposition lawmakers rushed there to push through an emergency vote to remove the measure.#Defeated#Yoon emerged a few hours later to accept the parliament's vote and lift the martial law order.#Now#lawmakers will vote on whether to impeach him over what the country's main opposition has called his “insurrectionary behaviour”.

imagine being a Korean person awake at like one in the morning trying to accept that the president of South Korea actually just tried to go full dictatorship by way of an emergency martial law because he was basically having a political temper tantrum and every agency and corporation in the country is all hands on deck, code red mode on everything and the military is being deployed and then the assembly revokes the martial law and then the president is like lol nevermind and now you have to get ready to work at your shitty job on a Wednesday

ok so in the span of like 5 hours:
- the south korean president declared martial law (the first time since s korea stopped being a military dictatorship in the 80s)
- claims his political opponents are insurgents working on behalf of north korea and communism
- declares that all political activity must cease (inc the national assembly/parliament), all media must be under the control of the military, and all protests/strikes are illegal
- the opposing political party immediately assembles at the national assembly in the middle of the night
- holds an emergency vote that goes thru 190-0 to declare the end to martial law (while barricading the entrances to prevent the military from entering and removing them)
- the president concedes an hour later
- civilian protesters in the streets are calling for the impeachment & arrest of the president
please feel free to add details/correct me

The main opposition Democratic Party called for President Yoon to resign or face impeachment.
Yoon declared martial law only to reverse the move hours later and what he did for a few hours as President triggered a political crisis in South Korea.
Yoon told the nation in a TV address late on 3, Dec that martial law was needed to defend the country from nuclear-armed North Korea and pro-North anti-state forces, and protect its free constitutional order, although he cited no specific threats.
“It was clearly revealed to the entire nation that President Yoon could no longer run the country normally. He should step down," senior DP member of parliament Park Chan-dae said in a statement.
Six South Korean opposition parties said they would submit Yoon's impeachment bill on 4, Dec. the Democratic Party said in a message to reporters, with voting to take place on Friday or Saturday.
If Yoon resigned or was removed from office, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo would fill in as leader until a new election was held within 60 days.
"South Korea as a nation dodged a bullet, but President Yoon may have shot himself in the foot," Danny Russel, vice president of the Asia Society Policy Institute think tank in the United States, said of the first martial law declaration in South Korea since 1980.

KCTU's 'History-Changing' Indefinite General Strike
"Until Yoon Suk-yeol, Accused of Insurrection, Steps Down"
1. Today (Dec. 5th), as the Korean Railway Workers' Union and Korean Metal Workers' Union begin their strike, school non-regular workers will join tomorrow. The unions state they will continue striking into next week if President Yoon doesn't resign.
2. This is KCTU's second indefinite general strike. The first one lasted 24 days from 26th December 1996 to 18th January 1997, protesting against President Kim Young-sam's rushed regressive reform of labour laws. That strike successfully blocked the legislation. KCTU announces this second indefinite strike in 28 years as "a struggle to protect democracy" following Yoon's alleged insurrection on December 3rd.
3. KCTU states that "What Yoon calls an emergency - the impeachment of government officials and budget cuts - are actually Parliament's constitutional rights." They add that "The martial law declared on the 3rd doesn't meet constitutional requirements and procedures, and doesn't properly follow martial law itself." They demand Yoon's arrest and impeachment for insurrection.
4. On the 3rd, after martial law was declared, KCTU called an emergency meeting and announced an indefinite general strike until Yoon's government steps down. The next morning, they announced they would join the 'National Emergency Action for Ending Martial Law, Removing Yoon for Insurrection, and Achieving Social Reform and People's Sovereignty'.
5. Since Yoon's alleged insurrection on December 3rd, various affiliates and regions branches of the KCTU are discussing their own plans for strikes and rally participation. A large turnout of KCTU members and citizens is expected at the third People's Rally on December 7th.

HOW MANY OF YOU KNEW THIS ABOUT BROTHER WESLEY?!
Snipes formed a production company, Amen-Ra Films, in 1991 and a subsidiary, Black Dot Media, to develop projects for film and television.
AMEN RA PRODUCTIONS PRODUCED ALL OF THE HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL (AND LUCRATIVE) BLADE MOVIES
Snipes has been training in martial arts since age 12, earning a 5th dan black belt in Shotokan Karate and 2nd dan black belt in Hapkido.
In the late 1990s, Snipes and his brother started a security firm called the Royal Guard of Amen-Ra, dedicated to providing VIPs with bodyguards trained in law enforcement and martial arts. In 1996, the first film produced by Amen Ra productions was A Great And Mighty Walk – Dr. John Henrik Clarke, in which Snipes narrated.
In 2000, the business was investigated for alleged ties to the United Nuwaubian Nation of Moors. It emerged that Snipes had spotted 200 acres (0.81 km2) of land with the intention to buy and use for his business academy, which were close to the compound in Putnam County, Georgia. Both Snipes' business and the groups used Egyptian motifs as their symbols. Ultimately, Snipes and his brother did not buy the land, instead establishing their company in Florida, Antigua, and Africa.
Snipes, who was raised a Christian, converted to Islam in 1978, but left Islam in 1988. During a 1991 interview, Snipes said "[Islam made] me more conscious of what African people have accomplished, of my self-worth, [and gave] me some self-dignity."
