so uh, in a short time span of events tonight, tomarrow I get to: (1) report an asshole to the police/animal control for animal cruelty and (2) take an abandoned, malnourished, diseased and infected but socially friendly fella who's too lethargic to be comfortable to the Good Vet tomarrow to get completely checked out
and (3) my family gained an attatchment immediatly after holding him so I'm pretty sure we just gained a new cat friend

Ok hi! This is Cross a mentally ill, autistic, disabled, nonbinary bi jew and I'm asking for some help to be able to buy a new fridge and a dishwasher. Our fridge is broken and keeps freezing our food and then unfreezing it basically ruining quite a lot of it including an entire pan of rice no matter how we adjust its temperature and we need a dishwasher since we don't have one and both my mom and I are disabled and we have a very hard time keeping up with washing the dishes and it would make our life much easier if we could purchase one. So please help two disabled people make their life easier (and avoid food poisoning from the fridge ruining the food we make) we would appreciate it very much! Thank you <3

dentist update: my mouth is actually in WAY better shape than i thought considering i basically didn't brush my teeth at all last year and haven't had a cleaning or regular dental care in 12 years. there's one molar that's not salvageable and another that probably needs a root canal but i honestly expected to lose both bc they've been rotting in my mouth for. Months. and other than that i literally only need like 3 fillings. ✌️

Ive had control of our (my husband's and my) finances for only 2 months and things are already so much better i cannot believe it. Other than my student loans we have no debt, we actually have money in our savings account, we can finally donate regularly, and all of our bills are paid with no worry! This is the 1st time in my life that I'm living like this!
I said this to my husband and he's like ~i guess >:[~ so i asked what the hell he meant by that and he's like we dont have any spending money and im just ಠ_ಠ r u fucking serious. I literally just bought him a fairly expensive dnd book.
I'm losing my mind over here x_x once we reach our saving goal I'm going to make him open a roth IRA. We WILL be financially healthy and responsible i dont care if it means he can't spend money on every little bit of detritus that crosses his path.
Listen if ur not the "breadwinner" in the household you need to be involved with the budget. Do NOT just trust the earning partner. You need to KNOW were your money is going.

Here's what you're gonna do.
You're gonna go down to your local Aldi's, buy a 24oz bag of frozen mango chunks, a bag of rice, and two cans of black beans.
If you don't already have them; salt, lime or lemon juice and cumin; maybe some meal prep tupperware. Pouch tuna if you like that stuff.
Once home, put that bag of mango chunks in a bowl full of warm water so they defrost. Don't pen it. The bag needs to stay closed. This'll make sense later.
Prepare enough water in a pot to cook two cups of that rice. Make sure the pot's big. Big enough to hold way more rice than you expect there to be. Add a teaspoon of cumin, two tablespoons lime or lemon juice, salt according to preference. Pat of butter.
Boil. Make sure the butler's melted. Stir to combine.
Add your rice. Cook according to rice bag.
If you have a protein, you can cook that now. 20-30 minutes at your disposal. If not, that's why we got the second can of beans for.
I recommend Aldi's tuna steaks - quick to defrost, 5 bucks for 2-3. Lean protein. Real nice. Creme de la crumb's tuna marinade also works real nice if you have the energy.
A pouch of tuna's just as good functionally.
Less mercury that way.
You can mix it in that if you want, too.
Strain your beans. Conserve a little bean water for the rice if you want.
Your rice is done.
Add your beans. Twice as many if you're feeling like it'll be a bad week. Two or three pouch tunas too if you want a little extra.
If you have the lemon pepper kind you can probably nix the citrus juice.
Now we go back to your mango. If all's worked correctly, the warm water should've thawed them somewhat, the heat warming the air in the bag.
Dump 'em in, turn the burner to low heat. Stir until well combined.
Portion out into Tupperware.
You've got a good couple meals right there. Even more as side dishes if you have the energy to cook chicken nuggets or fish or veggies or whatever.
Lunch. Breakfast. Dinner.
Carbs to keep you awake and moving.
Protein to fuel your muscles.
Bit of fiber to push it all through your guts easier.
Citric acid to avoid the scurvy.
Can be eaten hot or cold, and the shit's good, too.
You're gonna have something tasty to eat whether you can operate a microwave or not this week.
That's what you're gonna do.

Thank you so so much for all your help so far!
A quick update from us:
I’ve lowered the goal amount to focus on our most urgent need: an inverter and battery back up.
(We technically need two batteries, which is why the GFM is at $2k to cover a lot of the cost and include what has already been donated.)
We have had… honestly too many power outages in the past two years here, and each one has caused serious problems for us with no heat, even to the point of being life threatening. This inverter is rated the best for pellet stoves and the best for no interruption. (and therefor no smoke blowback into the house) This would help us the most right now!
As always, I offer as much art, stickers, prints, anything you can slap an art on in thanks for any donations! I do have a small waitlist at the moment for commissions/requests, but I’m working my way through it as fast as possible! (Any donation art requests will be worked on concurrently, and will have their own list.)

Hi, do you have a sec to talk having a cat for a pet? I've been wanting to hit up the shelter and see if I can't take one (or maybe a pair) home for a good while now and while I have a smidge more money than even a few months ago, I'm still arguably Poor Enough that I've also been checking and rechecking to make sure I've thought about all/most the costs that are connected to cats.
Is there anything that you think people often forget about when they try to do the budget maths that's a bit more past the regular upkeep and standard stuff like surprise vet bills, insurance, 'fuck you I'm not eating this brand of food anymore', and periodically replacing stuff that either breaks or wears down?
I would hate to commit only to realise I don't have the funds after all, y'know?
ummm not really? remember to budget for regular yearly vaccinations. even if cats are 100% indoor you can still bring stuff in from outside so they could still get those illnesses and a lot of insurance doesn't cover routine care
honestly i don't have pet insurance at all because most of them cover fuck all for the first like... year (and 2 years in the case of dental which like. what) and the list of things they don't cover is ridiculous. if you're in the UK and financially struggling (you do not have to be unemployed or on benefits) you can register with the PDSA for reduced cost vet treatments. otherwise just hit up the least extortionate one and keep a separate savings account for potential vet bills.
(insurance won't even insure 2 of my cats because bean is FIV positive and siouxsie has a slightly dodgy kidney. i mean slightly. she doesn't even have to take meds for it that's how slightly. but these are "pre existing conditions" that invalidate them like again. what. is the point. of you)
but no you've not forgotten anything. outside the initial "buying everything" expense cats really aren't that spendy as far as pets go. if you can afford it i'd recommend buying food in bulk and larger bags of litter. it normally works out quite a bit cheaper to get like... 120 pouches of food once every 4 months than getting a small box every 12 days yanno (by the time the next shipment rolls around you'll definitely have enough if you just keep x aside a week for it it's just that first one that gets you)
oh. boyfriend pointed out having a little treats budget too. sweeties.
good luck also please show me the baby i need to see the baby
