How to ease hypervigilance:
1. Embark on a journey of shifting the center of safety from the head or other people to the body. The safer and more regulated the nervous system feels, the less hypervigilance is present.
2. Discover a new orientation. Hypervigilance means that your system is strongly oriented toward the threat in an attempt to self-protect.
To soften the hypervigilance is the journey from an orientation to threat to an orientation of safety.
Safety may be a big word right now; that's why start to orient daily to
- what feels pleasant, even if 0.1%
- what feels opening
- what feels easier
- what feels supportive
- what matters to you
Intentionally reorient your eyes, body, and self to something that does not reinforce survival but helps you access resources.
Unless you bring a new orientation that's not survival-based, your system will go through the old familiar orientation to threat.
3. Less identification as "the hypervigilant". Hypervigilance is a survival mechanism, not your identity. Not who you are.
Through observing, notice how
- the brain is hypervigilant towards unfamiliar or intense sensations in the body
- the nervous system is hypervigilant towards cues of threat, particularly in relationship
You can even say, "My brain is hypervigilant of the bodily experience" or "My body is hypervigilant in relationships".
While hypervigilance is powered by fear and control, observing offers space and opening. They have very different responses in the body.
Do you want guidance and tools to navigate your healing without overwhelming your nervous system on the path?
I created the audio practices in The Self-Attunement Audio Toolkit to help you ease into an embodied healing experience.
You can access the toolkit via my Instagram/FB profile or comment the word Attuned, and I'll DM you the details.
Love,
Ally.

Denying the body is denying humanity. When on the healing path embodiment is key.
Our bodies are a gateway to loving connections with others, community, ecosystems, the world and ultimately, metaphysically the universe.

“Perhaps real wisdom lies in not seeking answers at all. Any answer we find will not be true for long. An answer is a place where we can fall asleep as life moves past us to its next question. After all these years I have begun to wonder if the secret of living well is not in having all the answers but in pursuing unanswerable questions in good company.” -Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen | photo: @mollyboha | There is so much about trauma that cannot be answered or explained or rationalized away from the pain and the injustice of the experience. Finding environments and people with whom we can feel connected while navigating through the space of infinite questions, may enhance our capacity to be more safely with the not knowing. Perhaps there is some freedom, however slight, in that which is unanswerable, which is moving, which is unbound by time and space and cognition, and which is transforming both within and around us at all times. Friends, healers, family, mentors and guides, animals and nature, and practices that nurture us at our core, can accompany and contain this process of inquiry into being with what is. #survivor #trauma #overwhelm #sexualtrauma #embodiedjustice #embodiedhealing #heaingisnonlinear https://www.instagram.com/p/Bw9707rgpXJ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=rujwkw00e81i

Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives. 💚 - Bessel van der Kolk Reposted from @the.embodiedtherapist 💭Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives. @bessel_van Safety with self, with others, and within the context of the larger world in general is greatly impacted with repeated exposures to trauma. Reconnecting to self to regain safety and with others to attach and trust is a journey. It’s a process that may take time. Anger is more than an emotion we try hard to release, suppress, lash out, like, or dislike. Anger is instinctual and informs us of injustice, loss, unmet needs, hurt, boundary disruption, and truth dismissal.
When something goes off early in life, anger comes as an alarm. But who was there to see and hear? When anger is not recognized, it's suppressed. More suppression of anger leads to more reactivity of anger later on in life.
You may have a conversation with a friend/partner/parent and feel unseen or hurt and notice anger rising up through your body. And you may think that the other person made you angry or triggered you. The trigger is within you.
This is not the anger "only" of this experience. This is your system remembering all the moments when it felt unheard, unheard, dismissed and suppressed.
Integration of anger requires 3 elements:
- acknowledging the loss, the injustice and the pain that anger is reacting to in the present moment: the injustice, the suppressed hurt, the unmet needs, the disconnect, the accumulated survival, the suppressed grief, the disrupted boundaries.
- recognizing how much anger has been shamed, dismissed, judged and unheard. Changing our relationship to anger is foundational.
- the nervous system having the capacity and safety to modulate the energy of anger
Do you need practical tools to transform your relationship with yourself from pressure and confusion to clarity and empowerment?
I created the audio practices inside The Self-Attunement Audio Toolkit to ease your way into an embodied healing experience.
You can access the toolkit via my Instagram/FB profile or comment the word Attuned, and I'll DM you the details.
Love,
Ally.

Nourishing Strategies
What are your personal strategies for finding nourishment? Not just physical nourishment, although food and water are certainly elements to be considered and reviewed today. What is your strategy for finding emotional and spiritual nourishment? Spiritual starvation, as well as spiritual toxicity, are both real. Both deserve your attention today. What are you taking into your body, mind, and soul, that feed you? What do you ingest, read, experience, that helps you see yourself at your best? That washes you in refreshing hope? And what are the things that poison you? What are you ready to set down? What only gives you pain?

One week until our course on trauma-informed yoga and meditation for survivors launches! I’m reviewing videos today and really moved by the ways in which our network of practitioners shared about their experiences not only working with survivors but also navigating their own healing through a variety of practices. This little clip is from my welcome video. I thought it was important to name my own experience engaging with these yoga and meditation, the vulnerabilities and the opportunities that somatic approaches to healing revealed. We are registering new participants every day now and would love for you to join us. Also, many of you asked so I wanted to share that yoga teachers affiliated with the Yoga Alliance will also receive 16 noncontact CEs for participating in the course. Stay tuned for more videos in our Instastories!
