The funniest thing about the boiling rock episodes is zuko telling sokka at the start how this prison houses the most dangerous and notorious criminals of the fire nation as well as war prisoners, and then at the end they just let one of them tag along without ever asking him what he was in for. Could have brought a serial killer to meet the fucking avatar and they'd be none the wiser

It’s canon that like the gaang is really bad at forgetting Toph can’t see and didn’t really update her on all the stories so sometimes I amuse myself wondering what she actually knows. Like does she know Aangs bald? Or that he has tattoos? Does she know the kyoshi warriors have sick ass makeup? Does she know Katara has hair loopies? Does she ever learn that Aang was almost boiled alive in oil? At what point does Sokka tell her he’s in love with the moon?

i'm not one of those 'media literacy is dead and our youth is wrong' people but the tags on that atla poll are. making me want to say it.
#it's such a binary way of looking at things#toph is a tomboy and sometimes she makes fun of guys for being girly bad anti-feminist character#girl. that's called being 12. and makes sense with her background.#when i was a kid what stuck out to me was that whenever she did that aang always just shrugged it off#(ember island players aside but there was a lot going on there)#he was really secure in himself and that was really unusual for male characters in cartoons#it kind of came off like the culture he came from was slightly less regressive about gender which makes sense#like yes there are problems but consider approaching the show in good faith and thinking about the characters#outside of whatever stereotype you've reduced them too#avatar the last airbender#katara isn't just team mom! she act maternal occasionally because she had to take on that role at a young age but she also acts immature#and drags everyone into trouble plenty of times. she was hotheaded and sometimes said cruel things!#do i think the romance with her and aang was always handled well no#but that doesn't mean she's a bad character

ever since i found out about zuko being good at tsungi horn as a youngster i need band nerd theatre kid zuko au so badly. high school musical but azula is sharpay.
no bc this is canonically and factually correct (to me) zuko is a theater kid but in the way like. Sinjin from victorious is a theater kid like that boy was never on a stage (in his household? not a chance) BUT he does lurk in the rafters and have Very Strong Opinions about how things should be done and he literally can’t even try to play it cool when it comes to artistic direction

#that being the ember island ep and the finale#im just not impressed with her cold ruthlessness as everyone is#to me its just sad#it was the only thing she was valued for and she stuck to it#she was having a hard time at the beach bc it was like. the One time we saw her try to be a ‘normal teen’#she was failing at every turn bc shes realizing just how…abnormal she behaves#i loved that she admitted jealousy and insecurity that she couldn’t talk to boys like normal#because she truly has No Experience with being a normal teen#its realy sad this is like the only episode where we see this#txt
