Elvis lovers - it’s that time again! This week’s question is…..what are your top three live song performances? I definitely have not heard all the live stuff that’s available, so I’m really excited to see all of your answers and add them to my playlist! ❤️❤️❤️ Don’t forget to put the reasons why it speaks to you! Reading about everyone’s love for this man just makes my heart swell. 😘❤️
Such a Night (March 25, 1961 Pearl Harbor) - This concert is amazing, and this song in particular just puts me in a good mood. The little growling noises he does throughout are just so sexy, and the song is so upbeat. I love that you can hear the playful dynamic between him and the audience. There are so many amazing songs from this concert that he rarely performed again - Reconsider Baby, It’s Now or Never, I Need Your Love Tonight. And the corny jokes are already in full effect! He was really just his dorky self on stage, and I love it so much!
My Babe (Elvis Live 1969 Disc 9 - August 25, 1969 Las Vegas Midnight Show) - This is one of my favorite blues songs, and I was so excited when I first saw that Elvis covered it. (If you like blues, listen to Little Walter’s version. It is a great song, and I wish that Elvis had sung all the verses - I’d love to hear him sing “When she’s hot there ain’t no coolin’ her.” 😉😍) The amount of sexiness he oozes in this vocal is almost criminal. When he sings “she don’t, she don’t, she don’t, oh God,” I bet every woman there felt something…unspeakable. And the grunting! Whew…I need to recover from just thinking about this performance. 🥵 Really everything from this first Vegas run is just superb - the bluesy arrangement for Heartbreak Hotel is another favorite for me.
Funny How Time Slips Away (Elvis on Tour Disc 3 - April 14, 1972 Greensboro) - I love this song so much, and this particular version just does things to me. Right before he starts the song, he asks them to turn the house lights up, and when he says “I-I-It’s funny because I-I-I can’t see you really,” his sweet little stutter just melts my heart. Then when he sings, “How am I doin’? Well I’m sweatin’ a little bit baby, but I guess I’m doin’ fine,” it makes a lot more than my heart react. 😉😍😂 I just love how you get a feel for his interaction with the audience in this performance, and I like when he says “let her have it, man, let her have it” to security (I think about someone trying to get a scarf). My other favorite live performance of this is at Madison Square Garden. In that one, you actually can hear him stutter while singing a line, and I love that he goes up and hits that falsetto note when he sings “Remember what I told you,” and then drops way back down. I think he just had a lot of fun singing this, considering it’s kind of a sad song.
Runner-up goes to You’re the Reason I’m Living (March 22, 1975 Midnight Show). I think this is the only time he performed this live (someone correct me if I’m wrong), and it feels like just a beautiful dedication to his fans. Again you can hear his sweet stutter before he starts, and I like how you can hear him direct the band on what to do during the song. He performs the song so beautifully and then concludes by saying “That was, probably you could tell, totally unrehearsed.” Um, no, I could not tell that at all because it was amazing! ❤️
Again tagging past participants, but if you love Elvis and his music, please join in! 😘

Following on from a two-week Las Vegas engagement in March, Elvis kicked off his first arena tour in six months at Macon (GA) Coliseum, on April 24th, 1975. Part of the show was recorded at the soundboard and bootlegged.
There was huge local excitement about Elvis coming to town. One local paper reported that Elvis' entourage included twenty bodyguards, and they had booked out the entire top floor of the local Hilton, the transport arrangements having included a large private jet, blue and yellow Cadillac limousines and a chartered greyhound coach. Hotel staff told the paper that Elvis nearly took a tumble on a slippery floor while accessing the hotel through the kitchen, but took it in good humour.
The Macon Telegraph reported;
"…Elvis Presley, who has been selling out auditoriums and arenas for 20 years, did it again in Macon Thursday night before a crowd of 10,242 persons, who travelled from all over the Southeast to hear the legendary performer sing…At 9.40 p.m, Presley walked up the eight steps leading to the five foot high, 32 by 40 foot stage and the overflow crowd burst into yells, tears, screams and roaring applause…The performer immediately began singing See See Rider, which was followed by I Got A Woman. He paused after these two numbers and introduced himself to the elated crowd as Johnny Cash. That drew a tremendous round of laughter and applause…Presley, wearing a blue suit with silver sequins, followed those songs with 15 others, including such favourites as Love Me, Burning Love and Let Me Be There…Presley left the stage amidst thundering applause and thrilled fans who stretched over the balcony trying to touch the performer…"
It’s an interesting set-list, with the emphasis on more contemporary material. This mix is a little different with piano dominating in the rock numbers, and actually overpowering the vocal in some parts.
The tour extended through to May 7th, and included a benefit show in Jackson for victims of a recent Tornado in McComb, MS.

A/N: Yessssss Greg!! This is just a little drabble.
Afters
Pairing: Greg Nolan x housewife!reader
Word count: 729
TWs: Reader cries, there's a little bit of dirty talk. Think that's it!

Greg shrugs his jacket on and straightens his tie. “Gotta go, baby.”
You’ve literally just pulled a pot pie out of the oven, and you huff in frustration as you place it on the pot holder. Putting the oven mitts on the side, you smooth your apron down over your dress and try to keep it together. Turning around with your best attempt at a smile.
“But it’s dinner time, Greg.”
This is the third time this week he’s had to go back to work in the evening. You’re starting to get worried.
“Sorry, baby. Have to get this photoshoot done.”
He grabs his camera bag and slings it over his shoulder.
“But I made chicken pot pie. It’s your favourite.” You know you sound whiny but you can’t help it. Tears are shining in your eyes but he’s too busy grabbing the things he needs to notice.
Stepping towards you, he kisses the top of your head lovingly. “I’m sure it’ll be just as good warmed up later, honey.”
“N-no it won’t!” You exclaim, frustrated and upset. “You know it won’t! It’s better now, just out of the oven!” Tears spill down your face as you rage about the pie, hands balling into fists.
Greg blinks in surprise. He knows you like to cook, and you like to spoil him with your delicious food, but he didn’t think you’d be so upset about a pot pie. He wipes your tears with a thumb.
“C’mon darlin’. I promise I’ll love the pie just as much when I come back later.”
You push his hand away, angrily. “It’s not about the pie!”
“It’s… not?”
“You don’t love me anymore, do you? You’re seeing someone else.” It comes out in a rush and you tremble with emotion.
Your lower lip wobbles, and then suddenly you’re really sobbing, body shaking as the tears flow down your cheeks, bringing your hands to your face to try and control it but it’s far beyond control at this point. All of your fears and insecurities come pouring out of you in the form of salty water. You’ve always been a little worried that you’re not pretty enough for Greg, but ever since he started the late nights at work, coming home and going out again, you’ve been convinced that he’s found someone better. No-one needs to do this much photography, surely?
Greg is shocked, letting his bag fall off his shoulder and catching it just in time to place it on the floor. How on earth can you think he doesn’t love you anymore? Because of the pie?
He gently prises your hands away from your face and sets them by your sides, before raising his large hand to your jaw, holding it gently. When you keep looking down, sniffing, he carefully tilts your face towards his. Your eyes find his blue ones, reluctantly.
“What makes ya think that, baby?” He asks, trying to make his voice as soothing as possible.
You groan. “All these late nights. You can’t be taking photos. Unless they’re photos of some other girl.”
He blinks slowly. Well, he is taking photos of other girls, that’s his job. But he decides now isn’t the time to be literal.
“I promise you I’m jus’ doin’ my job. The new boss is fussier than the old one and he keeps wantin’ things redone. And tomorrow mornin’ is the deadline for publishin’. I’m sorry, baby. I don’t want ta work either.” He looks deep into your eyes as his grip on your jaw tightens. “Can’t think of anything I’d like ta do more than eat your gorgeous home-cookin’ and then put ya between my legs under the dining table for your desert…”
You stop crying abruptly as warmth spreads between your own legs. “R-really?”
“Really, baby.” His thumb brushes over your lips. “I haveta go, but I’ll be back as soon as I can for that dinner.” He wiggles an eyebrow suggestively. “And afters.” Pressing a kiss to your lips he pulls back a little, his hand still on your jaw, making sure he’s got your full attention. “I love you, darlin’.”
“I love you too, Greg," you whisper, reassured.
“You’re the only one for me, baby,” he tells you as he lets your jaw go, reluctantly, and picks his bag back up again. “I’ll be thinkin’ of ya waiting here for me.”

I was so excited to find this vinyl in decent condition on eBay! If you have not listened to the Pearl Harbor concert recording, do yourself a favor and search for it on YouTube. Elvis is Back is one of my favorite albums, and you get to hear the only live recordings of some of those songs. Thank you to @thatbanditqueen Norah for turning me on to this concert! ❤️😘

Over March 29th and 30th, 1977, Elvis played two shows at Rapides Parish Coliseum, Alexandria, Louisiana. This is a partial soundboard recording of the second night’s performance, during which Elvis was sufficiently troubled by malfunctioning sound equipment that he invited sound engineers Felton Jarvis and Bruce Jackson onto the stage to make his point. He also re-interpreted a line of And I Love You So to reflect his feelings on the matter...
"I guess...they understand...how bad the sound has been..."
The Alexandria Town Talk reviewed the first night’s performance, and part of this review was quoted in Peter Guralnick’s bio, Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley as a general (and not entirely fair) wider commentary on Elvis’ level of engagement and showmanship during this period;
“…Tuesday night Presley was on stage less than an hour; he was impossible to understand when (or if) he talked between numbers…he never said one word to the audience or mentioned how nice or not nice it was to be in Alexandria… He came on stage, did a few numbers and then dashed off - no encores, no extra bows, no nothing…”
The review in its entirety was not as devastating as that one paragraph, and seemed to reflect the reporter’s bewilderment over the hysteria of the fans, and the fact that the show itself was, in her own words, ‘great fun’, ‘Capital E’ entertaining, and ‘Capital P’ professional, in spite of its musical shortcomings.
The reviewer noted Elvis’ consideration in giving attention to those seated behind the stage, complimented his rendition of Early Morning Rain, joked that How Great Thou Art should have been renamed 'How Loud Thou Art', and urged Elvis to include more contemporary numbers in the set.
This show provided no warning of the disaster that would befall the tour the following night. In Baton Rouge, as showtime approached, Elvis was semi-conscious and could not be roused. The decision to cancel was made at the last minute, when the arena was already full and seated. A very quick evacuation from the city was arranged, a statement was released explaining Elvis' ill-health, and the Baton Rouge show, along with the other three remaining nights of the tour, were rescheduled.
