"Murder Drones" (2021-2024) is a bright indie animated series that combines dark humor, science fiction and horror. Uzi and N, the main characters, create an exciting dynamic where comedy is intertwined with tension. The animation by Glitch Productions is impressively detailed, and AJ Dispirito's soundtrack adds to the atmosphere. Although the plot seems compressed after only eight episodes, this does not prevent the series from standing out with its uniqueness.

Five Stars — a stylish, witty and captivating series that is a must-watch for fans of indie animation.

Honestly it's INSANELY funny that a post is going around rn about the Life of Faith dolls cause I remember when they were being sold. My conservative Christian mom even said "Hmm. That might be a bit culty for us. Also the Elsie Dinsmore books are racist trash," bought me a pretty journal from the local Christian bookstore, and that was that. Me and my friend Annie did a deep-dive on them a few months back just in our own DMs so for those curious about how bad this gets, here's some fun facts:

The company was started by Christian Homeschoolers™ (not "homeschoolers who are christian." Christian Homeschoolers and all the stereotypes that entails) in the mid-90s but went bankrupt in 2010. They based them around the old Elsie Dinsmore books, starring a girl who was so pious she would rather die than not pray to God or smth like that. The dolls hands can be clasped in prayer and they all came with mini Bibles

The dolls were Elsie Dinsmore, the daughter of a fucking plantation owner; Millie Keith, her cousin whose doll was a clear ripoff of Kirsten Larson; Violet Travilla, Elsie's daughter; Laylie Colbert, a fucking slave doll (but it's ok because the white girls converted her to Christianity); and Kathleen McKenzie, a Great Depression bitch.

Elsie Dinsmore books were originally published between 1867-1905. They are generally considered so bad that even hardcore Evangelicals consider them boring at best. The doll line EDITED the books to be less racist actually. Yes, the doll line that calls the slaves "Plantation-Dwellers" actually edited racist shit out of the books. I recall a bit where Elsie told a slave girl that she would be white in Heaven. They also cut out a bit where her Dad beats her with a riding crop.

Yes, she does marry her Dad's Friend. They did not cut this part out.

DINSMORE, YOU BRUTE

Millie's books were somehow both more and less racist. Millie and her family were abolitionists who helped runaway slaves but also one of her brothers marries a Mexican girl after the two of them were, and I quote, "captured by Indians and presumed dead."

IIRC, Elsie and Violet happen to be in Europe when the Civil War happens and they just kinda stay there to avoid the consequences of their actions. When they come back they are threatened by the KKK but I don't remember why. I DO remember that they spent Elsie's money on rebuilding plantations, because clearly THAT is where our priorities have to lie

The Violet and Laylie books are fanfiction. I don't think Kathleen's have anything to do with Elsie at all.

Oh, did I say books? Laylie only got one book, one nightgown, and some accessories for her collection. Kathleen, who was released a year later, got a shitton of stuff. Like, a mountain of stuff. I wonder what the difference between them is

I'm pretty sure Laylie's book does involve her escaping slavery but I never read it so idk. I do know that it plays heavily into Millie as her White Savior™ teaching her about God and how to read or whatever. I think Millie also teaches her about abolition which is fucking wild. Imagine a white girl explaining abolition to a slave

It's like they took everything American Girl did right when making Addy and said "we need to do the opposite of all of this"

Kathleen is both a ripoff of American Girl's Kit Kittredge and Girls of Many Lands's Kathleen (yep, same name and appearance).

The reason this line exists is the original Christian Homeschoolers considered American Girl to be pro-lesbian and pro-abortion. No American Girl didnt have any references to homosexuality or abortion at the time. Their first canon queer characters were in 2021 (Kira's gay aunts). As @jabberwockypie put it, everyone flipped out because AG partnered with Girls Inc "to fund after-school science programs and stuff" and god forbid, amirite?

And, yes, the red eye defect persists. It is SO funny

Darren Criss 'doesn't need' a Glee reboot as he teases new project he has 'special feelings' about

Singer and actor Darren Criss revealed whether he believes Glee should get a reboot.

The 37-year-old, who played Blaine in the hit Fox series, spoke with The Mirror US at Elsie Fest, Broadway's annual music festival. While many shows have gotten the reboot treatment like Boy Meets World, Saved By the Bell and That 70s Show, Darren doesn't feel like a Glee reboot would be necessary.

"I don't need to [reboot Glee] personally, but that's not to say I don't think it could happen, but it's, I'm the lowest ranking member of the totem pole that makes those kinds of decisions," he told us exclusively.

This comes after Glee creator Ryan Murphy teased the possibility of bringing the show back.

Speaking on the And That’s What You REALLY Missed podcast in 2022, Ryan said, "I’m at the phase now with that show [Glee], you know, where it’s like, well, there’s been enough time. Like, maybe we should really re-examine it as a brand.

"You know, should we do a reboot of it in some way? Should we do a Broadway musical of it in some way?"

However, nothing has come of that since. Instead, Darren has teased a new project that he's especially excited for - his upcoming Broadway musical Maybe Happy Ending. In the musical, he stars as Oliver, a Helperbot, facing the stark reality of obsoleteness as his model becomes increasingly outdated.

Darren not only gave a first look at the title song at Elsie Fest but he also spoke with The Mirror about the upcoming show. "I just started rehearsing for a new show, maybe happy ending that we open previews in October and opens officially in November," he shared.

He added: "I think it's very, very special and I'm, I've never really had that feeling about doing something before, which is not to say the things I did before weren't special. This one just keeps creeping up on me in a way that I am so delighted by and I feel like I'm part of something very, very unique that I'm very excited for people to see it."

Darren not only performed at Elsie Fest but he created the event. The festival launched in 2015 and ran every year up until 2021. This year, Elsie Fest returned after a two-year hiatus. When speaking on what it was like for the festival to be brought back, Darren revealed it was "an honor and a joy" to serve the theatre community.

"I'm just happy that there are still people here that are interested in this kind of an environment. The show, and this sounds like such a cliche, but it is made up of the fans," he said.

He continued: "This is not for our benefit, it is for theirs. Because, you know, I, sort of saw this hole in the market of there's this fan base that really loves to celebrate and perform this kind of material but doesn't have a venue to kind of let their hair down and kind of, you know, be a little unfettered. And so to be able to provide that is, is, is an honor and a joy as a huge musical theater fan."

i'm so disgusted with a certain subset of british society.

what's being lost here is that three little girls - children with ages in the single fucking digits - are dead because of a sick individual who was born in cardiff and happens to be of rwandan descent.

which is entirely irrelevant. what is relevant is the southport stabbing was an attack on - very, very specifically - children.

the quiet part that's not being said out loud is that it was primarily an attack on female children.

but that gets lost, doesn't it?

it gets lost when someone decides that this welsh born man is a Muslim immigrant (which is untrue but still irrelevant even if he was). it gets lost when blatant disinformation is being spread by many many dodgy sources but dave the gammon willfully decides to take it as gospel anyway. it gets lost even when the suspect's name and identifying information is released, despite him being a minor, in the public interest, to stop this misinformation being spread.

it gets lost when dave the gammon has an "excuse" to take to the streets. it gets lost when dave the gammon starts parroting "stop the boats" (he doesn't know what it means) and "we want our country back" (because this ailing island belongs to him personally). it gets lost when dave the gammon gets to unleas all that misplaced and hatred fuelled anger by throwing a brick at a mosque or two. because in dave the gammon's mind - something's given him an excuse to tell us who he is.

it's given him an excuse to attack the Muslim community who are just trying to live their lives. to attack the refugees who are escaping horrors that dave the gammon is lucky enough to never be able to imagine.

how the FUCK are we twisting this violent, senseless and misogynistic act to make it about immigration?? how the FUCK can these people be so cruel to the families left behind who are going through unimaginable pain already?

how the FUCK has it come to this?

violence against women and girls has - finally - been declared a national emergency in the uk. i don't see any of these "protestors" even acknowledging that. i didn't see anyone rioting last month after the bushey attack which was fucking horrific. because the perpetrator was a white british man perhaps?

were there violent riots when white british incel jake davison killed five people including his own mother and a three year old girl in 2021?

I made this family tree a while ago and it’s very exciting to finally share it with you. Obviously franchaela’s kids are redacted for spoiler reasons, and I’ve given pretty much no thought to Gregory or Hyacinth’s future bc they’re still babies (they’re not) (they’re legal adults) (but babies). Everyone else’s families are complete, including come children not yet born at the end of Obligated.

Darren Criss spoke exclusively with The Mirror about how he doesn't feel Glee needs to be redone amid the booming reboot culture

Singer and actor Darren Criss revealed whether he believes Glee should get a reboot.

The 37-year-old, who played Blaine in the hit Fox series, spoke with The Mirror US at Elsie Fest, Broadway's annual music festival. While many shows have gotten the reboot treatment like Boy Meets World, Saved By the Bell and That 70s Show, Darren doesn't feel like a Glee reboot would be necessary.

"I don't need to [reboot Glee] personally, but that's not to say I don't think it could happen, but it's, I'm the lowest ranking member of the totem pole that makes those kinds of decisions," he told us exclusively.

This comes after Glee creator Ryan Murphy teased the possibility of bringing the show back.

Speaking on the And That’s What You REALLY Missed podcast in 2022, Ryan said, "I’m at the phase now with that show [Glee], you know, where it’s like, well, there’s been enough time. Like, maybe we should really re-examine it as a brand.

"You know, should we do a reboot of it in some way? Should we do a Broadway musical of it in some way?"

However, nothing has come of that since. Instead, Darren has teased a new project that he's especially excited for - his upcoming Broadway musical Maybe Happy Ending. In the musical, he stars as Oliver, a Helperbot, facing the stark reality of obsoleteness as his model becomes increasingly outdated.

Darren not only gave a first look at the title song at Elsie Fest but he also spoke with The Mirror about the upcoming show. "I just started rehearsing for a new show, maybe happy ending that we open previews in October and opens officially in November," he shared

He added: "I think it's very, very special and I'm, I've never really had that feeling about doing something before, which is not to say the things I did before weren't special. This one just keeps creeping up on me in a way that I am so delighted by and I feel like I'm part of something very, very unique that I'm very excited for people to see it."

Darren not only performed at Elsie Fest but he created the event. The festival launched in 2015 and ran every year up until 2021. This year, Elsie Fest returned after a two-year hiatus. When speaking on what it was like for the festival to be brought back, Darren revealed it was "an honor and a joy" to serve the theatre community.

"I'm just happy that there are still people here that are interested in this kind of an environment. The show, and this sounds like such a cliche, but it is made up of the fans," he said.

He continued: "This is not for our benefit, it is for theirs. Because, you know, I, sort of saw this hole in the market of there's this fan base that really loves to celebrate and perform this kind of material but doesn't have a venue to kind of let their hair down and kind of, you know, be a little unfettered. And so to be able to provide that is, is, is an honor and a joy as a huge musical theater fan."

Steph and Pete: get engaged when they graduate college in 2023. Get married when they both have steady income in 2026. Have Owen in October 2029. Have Amy in December 2034. Owen starts highschool in 2044. Amy skips 4th grade, starts highschool in 2047.

Pete: becomes a highschool physics teacher at hfh. Grows a moustache, sometimes double takes that he looks like Ted in the mirror. Takes Steph’s name.

Steph: becomes a 3rd grade teacher.

Owen: got the combo of autism and adhd, thanks mom and dad, had a 1:1 in elementary school (Mrs Keane). Art kid. May or may not be in love with his best friend (Will Green). Could be mistaken for Pete on a bad hair day. Inherited the Spankoffski family watch. Favourite colour is blue.

Amy: only got the autism but it's the freaky smart kind. Loves space, obsessed with planets. Probably also in love with her best friend (Elsie Chasity). Absolutely knows more than she should about the LiBs. Favourite colour is yellow.

Skrzynka: (Box in Polish) this fucked up, mixed breed cat that wandered into their backyard at some point. May or may not be a Tinky vessel

Grace and Ruth: get engaged in 2024. Get married in 2026. Have Joseph in 2031. Have Elsie in 2034. Have Abe in 2038.

Grace: criminal psychologist. (Major true crime fan)

Ruth: musical writer and director.

Joseph: quiet nerd kid, but has the same weird, threatening aura as Grace does. Into some real left field shit. Will debate the extended family on religion, one of those smarmy reddit atheists.

Elsie: non-verbal until like 7, Amy helped her communicate at school. Autism. Gentle, sweetheart. Creative girly, into her art, will forget to move until her piece is done.

Abe: nightmare toddler, Grace and Ruth regret having a third. Hair untamable.

Watson: ratty ass Irish wolfhound. Ruth had her childhood dog called Sherlock who passed so decided to get a puppy when Joseph was 3. They are inseperable.

Max and Richie: get engaged in 2024. Get married in 2028 once Max's dad finally fucking dies. Have Marie in 2033.

Richie: film critic (specifically horror movies)

Max: park ranger and highschool football coach

Marie: her middle name is Asuka, Richie had to be restrained and this was the compromise. She fucking hates this. Mini goth kid but also quite athletic, more into running than football. Did not inherit Richie's asthma but did inherit his insomnia.

Totoro: Named by Richie. Marie calls him Toto. Golden retriever.

Oscar: Named by Max. German Shepherd.

Suzie: Named by Marie after Suzie and the banshees. Rescue.

Lex and Ethan: get engaged in 2021, get married in 2026 once everything settles down. Have William in 2029.

Lex: actor at the Starlight

Ethan: runs his dad's garage

William: Will. Sort of takes after his dad, perceived as a bad kid but just likes sticking up for people. Quite creative as well, but more on the music side. Plays the piano and the violin, doesn't own either but plays at the highschool. Also very much in love with his best friend. Also raging adhd.

Hannah and Daniel: get married in 2040, have Meghan in 2043.

Hannah: guidance councillor

Daniel: ccrp worker

Meghan: can speak, doesn't until she's about 5. Her first word is Webby. This doesn't worry anyone at all. She may genuinely be a Webby conduit.

Emma and Paul: get married in 2022, have the twins in 2024. Have Jane in 2029.

Paul: this poor man will be with ccrp until the day he dies

Emma: "plant biologist"

Henry: yes he was named after hidgens. like a slightly more outgoing Paul, does end up working at Beanie's during his highschool years. Bit of a nerd for sci-fi thrillers. Has strong opinions on Working Boys.

Penny: named after Richie’s late mom, ie Paul's older sister. Manic anxious energy, doing everything all of the time, bit like cousin Tim. Has a Ted like sense of humor, Paul regrets letting him babysit.

Jane: named after Emma's older sister. Couldn't be more different. Absolute mess, reminds Emma of a younger her. Persued musical theatre in highschool and drove Paul fucking nuts.

Jessica Norton’s daughter was highly involved at Monarch High School in Florida. She organized and attended prom, spoke at graduation, and even led senior class traditions. However, due to a state ban that prohibits female transgender girls from playing on scholastic sports teams, that Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed on the first day of Pride in 2021, the daughter has left school and her mom is now facing termination from her job. Norton’s daughter attended Monarch High School in Broward County Florida, and her mother works as an information specialist at Coconut Creek High School. Last December, Broward County School District began investigating the student allowed to play on Monarch High School’s volleyball team. As a result, several staff members, including the principal of the school, were reassigned to different positions due to “allegations of improper student participation in sports” according to a statement by school district spokesperson John Sullivan.

“I had to find out in a Sun-Sentinel news article that the Professional Standards Committee recommended that I be suspended for 10 days rather than terminated – but I have been in limbo for more than 200 with the hanging threat of termination,” Norton said during the meeting. “I found out, again in a Sun-Sentinel news article on Friday evening, that my termination had been removed from consideration at this Board meeting. The District has yet to notify me or my attorneys of that decision, why it was made, or what will happen next.”

Jessica Norton could be facing termination from her job at Monarch High School in Broward County for letting her trans daughter play girls volleyball despite the fact that SB1028 bars trans girls from girls' sports.

Creating Your Own History: Archival Themes in "The Watermelon Woman" [Part 1]

An archivist speaks to the film’s protagonist about having a “great system” to organize archival records within the community archive.

The Core Values Statement of the Society of American Archivists says that archivists should expand access, respect diversity found in humanity, and advocate for archival collections that reflect humanity’s complexity. [1] The reality is often different from that ideal in a field that is overwhelmingly White, as a recent article about Black archives pointed out. [2] This is evident in Cheryl Dunye’s 1996 romantic comedy-drama film, The Watermelon Woman, which the Library of Congress added to the National Film Registry in December 2021 for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” [3] The film follows the story of one Black woman’s determined effort to create her own history and connect with the past. Although this eighty-six-minute mockumentary is over twenty-six years old, its themes of archival limits, power, silences, erasure, and fabrication continue to resonate today.

In the film, Cheryl Dunye plays a videographer (also named Cheryl Dunye) who works at a video rental store in Philadelphia with her friend Tamara (played by Valarie Walker). Cheryl watches a videocassette of an old 1930s film, Plantation Memories, and becomes interested in the character Elsie, a stereotypical ‘mammy’ character credited as “The Watermelon Woman.” She then strives to learn more about the actress who played Elsie. One of the first places Cheryl looks is in the basement of her mother’s house. Cheryl tells the audience that her mother, played by Irene Dunye, who is Cheryl’s mother in real life, throws nothing away. She says that Irene’s filing system needs updating. Her mother tells her about the films she watched growing up in the 1930s and notes that she saw “Elsie” singing in some clubs.

Cheryl continues her dogged search by talking to a person with a collection of old Black films and then traveling to the local public library, likely the Free Library of Philadelphia. After perusing the stacks, she checks out as many books as she can and talks to the reference librarian, a White man who is played by David Rakoff. Wanting information about the Watermelon Woman, she encounters her first archival limit, which scholars Sue McKemmish, Michael Piggott, Barbara Reed, Frank Upward, Jocelyn Fenton Stitt, and Sarah Tyson define as barriers created when documents pass into the hands of archival institutions from those who created them, inhibiting attempts to use records to tell family stories and circumscribing efforts to reclaim records about enslaved people. [4]

The librarian dismissively tells Cheryl to check the “Black,” “film,” and “women” sections of reference books for information about the Watermelon Woman. With much prodding, he eventually searches his computer and identifies Martha Page as the film’s director, telling Cheryl that information about Page is on a reserve desk on another floor. Although reserve desks serve students and faculty with materials typically meant for university courses, Cheryl is given an exception and is able to access the relevant information for her research. Yet, she is still unsuccessful because the materials she looks at don’t have exactly what she is looking for.
