They are brothers and they are cute adopted little elves in a family of the last members of the oath of fëanor, and they all are a family, I needed to scribble something with my new mechanical pencil

(BTW "dragged" doesn't necessarily mean by force. It COULD be a kidnapping, which is no less than Cáno deserves, but it could also be persuading/annoying/leading.)

Maglor: So you already know exactly what you're going to do, why are you coming to me for advice?
Elrond: because it sounds wiser coming from you because you're old and you're glowing

Summary: ‘Kano, I swear to the Valar, that better not be my lipstick!’
Maglor heard the commotion of the guards admitting two of the stray residents of the keep back inside. He heard one of the twins laughably try to maintain some level of silence in creeping back to their rooms down the hall. It’s not like he was going to be angry at them. Quite surprisingly, they’d actually obeyed his instructions for once from what he knew. He’d given them permission to spend the evening at the neighbouring village, as long as they were accompanied by his guards and returned with the same guards at a reasonable time.
They would be surrounded both by Elvish and Edain warriors the whole time and the twins were nowhere near defenceless anyway. He understood they were young and needed to spend some time with people of a similar age and it was good for them to get to know the Edain as well. They were half mortal after all. He was still shocked they’d agreed to the escort, though he supposed they recognised a fair deal when they saw one. In fact he’d probably been absolutely played. Nelyo taught them too well.
He was disturbed by a muffled disturbance of something clattering in the room above him. He tried not to panic as he dashed up to Elrond’s room. ‘Are you ok, little one?’ there was further clattering inside, ‘yes absolutely fine Ada,’ his voice was strained and his words made even less plausible by the sound of something breaking. ‘I’m coming in. I will knock the door down if needs be.’ There was a deep sigh from inside that could only come from a teenager and then the sound of the door unlocking.
He was greeted by a scene that was much less worrying than he’d been expecting. Elrond appeared to be struggling with the unlacing of a gown that had probably been borrowed from an elleth, probably one of his guards. ‘Do you want a hand,’ Maglor decided to open with. ‘I thought we banned that phrase after too many terrible puns from you and Atya.’ He relented, however and let Maglor undo the lacing before turning around to let Elrond get into his nightshirt.
‘Do you want to talk about it? We don’t have to,’ Maglor said casually sitting cross legged on the bed facing his child. Elrond hugged his knees to his chest refusing to meet Maglor’s eyes ‘They didn’t notice. The mortals I mean. They couldn’t tell I wasn’t-,’ he broke off here as if not sure how to continue. ‘They thought I was an elleth. Or a half elleth I guess. I asked Meliniel to borrow one beforehand and none of the others would have noticed, I wore a cloak while riding and it was dark. I stayed separate from Elros so they wouldn’t have had a point of reference. It doesn’t really mean anything elvish gender is meant to be difficult for non elves to guess at. It was just a bit of fun.’
‘It’s perfectly fine if it was. But I’m not entirely certain that’s all, is it? You can talk to me.’ Elrond looked up and when he finally worked up the courage to speak it was barely a whisper, ‘I liked it. Being seen as female. I think I feel more like an elleth than an ellyn sometimes.’ Maglor nodded smiling reassuringly at his child and squeezing his shoulder. ‘Well alright then. We do not have as many spare clothes lying around as we had in earlier days but I can scrape some garments together so you have options. And oh- wait here a moment,’ Maglor cut off as a thought occurred to him and he dashed off into his chambers.
He returned a few minutes later carrying a box containing several kinds of make up. ‘Who did you steal these from?’ Elrond inquired. ‘They’re mine don’t worry. I haven’t had much use for them in a while so you can take whatever you’d like. I can show you how to use them if you want,’ Elrond looked slightly surprised but tried to mask it.
‘Well technically at least half of them are mine,’ came a voice from the door frame. ‘How the fuck do you still remember that? That must have been in Valinor,’ Maglor exclaimed but not too seriously as Nelyo interacting so casually was always a good sign. Ribbing him like this made it feel almost like old times. ‘I remember everything any of you every stole from me. I don’t lose things. Especially not’ and he demonstrated by picking out a stick of reddish purple lipstick, ‘the only purple lipstick that didn’t make me look washed out.’ This was definitely a good day. Maedhros must be in a great mood to so obviously invite memories of Valinor, in front of someone else no less!
‘Please, you’ve never looked washed out in your life.’ Maglor scoffed. ‘It’s one of the many trials of being a red head,’ Maedhros replied solemnly. ‘Your name literally translates to the good looking one,’ and Maedhros sat next to Elrond on the bed. ‘I can teach you how to put it on darling. Ignore Maglor, if his make up skills are anything like they used to be you’d be better off asking Huan for help,’ he said the last bit with a pointed glance at Kano though he didn’t really mind. The offer of his time for something as personal as that, casually though it was spoken, meant a lot for how Nelyo viewed the twins
*in Valinor, the years of the trees*
‘Ok Kano there’s a lot of things we need to deal with here,’ Maitimo said as he hauled Kano up off the ground. ‘Firstly, yes I will cover for you to amme and atya. You went riding and there was no alcohol or nudity involved. Most importantly however, that better not be my lipstick or I swear to the Valar. . .’ Maitimo broke off while wrapping his arm over Kano’s shoulders and beginning to walk back home.
‘I thought it was Amme’s’ Kano slurred. ‘Was it in my possessions? Then it was mine. It’s my favourite shade to,’ Nelyo sighed. ‘Your favourite shade or Finno’s? I noticed a lot of that particular shade on our dear cousin’s collar at the last family gathering,’ this was met by Nelyo’s patented do not mess with me glare.
‘Sorry about your lipstick,’ Kano sighed. ‘I can get you your own so you don’t have to steal mine. I should also teach you how to apply it, because honestly Kano, what even is that.’

See one of my favorite Rivendell headcanons is that even though it's a wonderful, peaceful sanctuary, pretty much everyone there could be incredibly dangerous if they wanted to be. Like, let's think about who lives in that valley.
Elrond Peredhel, resident healer and eldritch crime against nature, self-explanatory
Glorfindel, slayer of balrogs, self-explanatory
Erestor, probably Feanorian, definitely dangerous
Old Feanorian diehards, all of whom are probably looking for an excuse to commit morally justified violence
Old Gondolindrim/Iathrim, who, despite what they might tell you, are exactly as dangerous as the Feanorians
Garthaglir the Library Orc, who absolutely remembers how to use the giant battleaxe he keeps behind his desk
A strange, shadowy figure roaming the valley who I'm *sure* isn't Maglor Feanorian, but who is nonetheless a terrifying singer
Elladan and Elrohir, who have spent the last several centuries becoming nightmare fuel for Sauron's forces
Arwen, eldritch, bites
Bilbo Baggins, not to be underestimated, can defeat a grown man with nothing more than his scathingly polite commentary
Dunedain visitors, vaguely feral, highly trained
Aragorn, very feral, highly trained
Lindir, not actually dangerous, but if you upset him you are going to have problems with everyone else on this list
I actually really like the idea that a lot of the people who live in Rivendell are inherently kind of dangerous, because it means that they're actively choosing peace and kindness for themselves and I love that.

elrond through the ages based on one glorious panel from chapter 95 of Black Butler (hopefully i got that right....). in the context of this sequence, i always thought it was sad to think abt how many people elrond has lost throughout his life alongside how remarkable he is to remain "as kind as summer" still by the time the hobbit rolls around 🥺
i redrew elrond's poses based on ciel's in the original panels BUT i forgot what page exactly the original panel sequence is... however!! if you scroll down to the middle half of this blog post you can find the original reference pic :D warning that it includes heavy spoilers for the black butler manga so u could just alternatively google 'ciel phantomhive running' and it'd probably be one of the first results that pop up haha

Just something about how Elrond is described as "kind as summer." You can't go wrong with that. Elrond is amazing.
But the history of Elrond is so fucking tragic — if anything, Elrond should be turned evil, like Fëanáro or Maedhros.
But he didn't.
He lost his parents, his brother, his foster parents, his wife, his daughter, etc... and yet he's an amazing person.
Elrond being one of the bad guys would have been understandable. But he chose to be a good person who helped maintain the stability of Middle-Earth.
Despite all his pain, grief, losses, etc — Elrond chose to stay patient and prevent more people from experiencing the same losses he did.
This just shows one of the many different outcomes of pain that Tolkien presents; rather than going mad, like Fëanáro, or becoming an anti-hero, like Maedhros, or even disappearing, like Maglor, Elrond chose to stay sane and be a hero for Middle-Earth.

The voyage west at the end of Return of the King is extremely funny to me, because just look at who's on board. You've got:
Frodo Baggins, hero of the Shire, in need of healing but also excited to see Valinor and meet the legendary elves who live there, a gentle soul
Elrond Halfelven, as kind as a summer, looking forward to peace west of the sea, probably wants to go chill out in a cottage with his wife for the next thousand years
Which seems fine. And then we get to everyone else.
Gandalf, cheeky bastard who's gotten so used to being a weird old wizard in Middle-Earth that's he's forgotten what Maia are supposed to act like, will immediately cause problems
Bilbo Baggins, noted storyteller, definitely planning to break into Aule's halls to see his dwarf friends, will ask all the elves weird questions and then sing about their lives and deaths in front of them, will immediately cause problems
Galadriel, who came to Aman half for Celebrian and Elrond's sake and half to taunt all her cousins about being the only one of them to survive the First Age, enjoys causing problems, will immediately cause many problems
(Also, to be clear, these are not three isolated problem-causers, they absolutely spent the entire trip to Valinor actively planning to give Amanyar society and the Valar an aneurysm.)
I just love the idea of Elrond, now reunited with Celebrian, and Frodo happily having tea with Elwing and Earendil, with nothing to interrupt them but the gentle sounds of the tides.
Meanwhile Galariel, Bilbo, and Gandalf are collectively bullying Mandos into releasing Maglor Feanorian from the halls because:
Bilbo wants to read him his translation of the Noldolante, which is written as a cheery Hobbit drinking song
Elrond always complained about how Gandalf and Maglor were both insufferably vague about advice and Gandalf needs to make sure he's more infuriating than Maglor as a matter of his wizardly pride
He still owes Galadriel money
