He was almost too late -- almost -- having gotten off of work much later than intended and suddenly finding himself in desperate need of something to take the edge off. Usually that would come in the form of a beer bottle and a cigarette, but considering he had work in the morning and didn't want to be listening to toddler heartbeats with a wicked hangover, he decided a good ol' fashioned Indica was his next best option. He waved down one of the budtenders before they closed up, placing a hand on the door so that they couldn't close it in his face.

"Relax, I’m not here to rob you. I just want a cart." Sammy explained curtly, a vexed expression crossed his features when the worker wouldn't let up. "Yeah, no, I get that you're closing -- that's great. But while I'm here I might as well grab a cart. You know?" He glanced inside the dispensary, locking eyes with Ella. "Does he get a raise or something if he turns enough paying customers away? Seems bad for business."

"Hey now, all's I asked was if you were up for a hike -- you're the one who said yes without requesting more details," he pointed out. Honestly, though, he was just happy that they actually agreed to hang in the first place, whether or not they actually enjoyed the idea of hiking or not. After living in Tonopah Valley for the past seven months, Malcolm finally felt like he was finding his footing with friends like Ella, who was nice enough to indulge him with their presence regularly. Not to mention, they were far too cool to be friends with him in the first place, so he felt extra lucky in that regard. "Aren't we already serious bros? That's the impression I was under anyway," he tossed back, albeit somewhat bashfully. "Yeah, that sounds good. I'm always down for some video games or just hanging out somewhere downtown." Malcolm was sober, but he didn't have issues being around people who drank. It was more so when it came to other illicit substances. "You goin' to that gala party, by the way? Not really my type'a thing but I heard the food's gonna be bomb."

"You have to say that. You brought me out here. Half a mile?! Jesus, I should've worn my heely's," they joked, giggling themselves a bit as they thought about it. That would've been something. Ella's sisters had always tried to get them to do more outdoors things together but Ella usually stuck to skateboarding being their most outdoor activity. Or driving to a nice spot to smoke. But exerting this much energy anywhere but the gym took some special encouragement. Though, since their involvement with the Enterprise, they had really started to try to hit the gym more. To stay ready for whatever the fuck could come their way. "You want me to come to the gym with you? Are we becoming serious bros here? I can't say I hate it." They wiped their face and dug out some trail mix from their bag, feeling a bit more ready to finish the hike. "I might, yeah, I was gonna cut out from the lounge early. Wanted to do something that wasn't boring. But we could also just hang out and play some video games or something."

Ella couldn't recall the last time she'd been at a nightclub. It certainly wasn't a luxury she could afford as a single mother of two, nor was she interested in it anyway. The sole reason she was here tonight was the text. Glancing at the crowd, she wondered how many of them were also here because of it. Out of curiosity who the anonymous sender was or out of fear by their threats. Gesturing at the bartender to pour her another shot, a sudden movement to her left caught her attention. to  read  about  something  was  one  thing,  but  to  see  something  you've  read  about  as  a  child  come  true  was  quite  ..jarring,  in  a  way.  maybe  liberating,  too  -  up  to  some  point,  but  mostly  just  jarring,  because  reality  never  exceeded  expectations.  quite  the  opposite,  reality  often  fell  short.  in  this  case,  he  was  less  eager  than  usual  to  witness  it  for  the  sole  sake  of  ...  not  wanting  to  be  disappointed.  but  kit  went  &  he  felt  the  urge  to  accompany  his  fiancé.  what  would  people  think  if  he  didn't?  probably  nothing,  but  still  -  he  wouldn't  risk  that.

but  it  was  too  crowded,  too  social,  the  pressure  simply  was  ...  too  much.  he  held  &  he  held,  but  at  some  point  he  couldn't  anymore.  he  bolted  &  went  to  find  some  place  safe.  some  place  familiar.  surely  nobody  would  mind  him  exploring  the  library,  right?  he  was  surprised  there  even  was  one  here,  but  then  again...  where  there's  people,  there's  books,  right?

after  letting  himself  inside,  strolling  through  the  many  shelves,  fingers  running  over  the  backs  of  a-many  books  in  his  search,  he  finally  found  something  that  called  to  him.  the  peace  &  quiet  in  here  was  ...  better.  he  enjoyed  it  greatly.  it  wouldn't  have  to  be  long.  he  just  needed  to  recharge  a  little  bit.  book  clasped  in-between  fingers,  ella  went  searching  for  a  comfortable,  secluded  place  to  sit  ...  only  to  find  someone  else  already  here.  "oh."  glancing  around  to  see  if  it  was  just  them,  or  if  he  missed  someone  else's  presence  in  here,  he  shot  the  man  a  little  smile.  "you  uh...  you  mind  if  i..?"  motioning  at  the  seat  next  to  the  man,  shoulders  pulled  into  a  little  shrug.

Lots and lots of beach days. I'd like to learn how to fish -- I haven't been in years, so I feel like I probably forget how."

Ella loved the sunny weather, she was always smiling in this weather and it made everything better for her. She smiled over at the girl for a brief moment, "Sunshine just makes anyone happy I choose to believe." She laughed a little looking over at the girl, "I am very excited for more beach days, to just relax and get lost in my own thoughts or a book at the beach. I swear i read more in summer than anytime in the year." She also knew summer meant the hotel got slightly busier but she did love it when it was busy it just had a better atmosphere there and they could do more events. "Do you have any plans for summer or just enjoying the spring at the moment?"

She's only been gone for two years yet it seemed people had easily moved on or made their minds about her. Not that she hasn't made it easier for most to do so either by how her actions had affected those close to her or the way she's pretty much ghosted everybody as if she never had intentions to return. She couldn't blame Gabriel for his snarky remarks about her being a bad mother or not being one at all even, but she's already got her fair share of judgement by one of the Gallo twins on top of her own self-loathe, so if there was a chance she'd gladly pass on the opportunity, which made her turn and make a step away.
