I've been replaying the witcher 3 and noting every instance of Elder Speech so I can do an analysis of the not-Welsh included in the language. Like, on the one hand, more awareness of Welsh is good, on the other, if it's really mangled Welsh, it isn't quite so good!
[Also will be posting to patreon later to update on my situation]

The Hen Linge dialogue from episode 307 of The Witcher. This one includes a song by Jaskier that I was really excited about. It was shortened a little bit, but this is that song:
Me mein a te deireide’n eip ynig. Omilden eir yndrere’n vort ynig. I blath kwe’th t’eivith helshte ys, me gainem ein te mein deireideth thein, gavole’n vort ynig. I veshet enkwe the? Ynkwe, m’elein Etariel, gwyn blath kwe’s’t hom ein shan, t’er hom ein kervem ein te wan. I gweld blathana dwek ynig...
In English:
My love for you will never cease. These memories will never fade. And this flower you left behind, a sign of your never-ending love, shall never die. But do you know why? Because, my fair Ettariel, this flower seemingly slick with dew, was actually wet with your tears. And enchanted flowers never wilt...

Obviously a lot of the monsters found in the world of the Witcher are based on Slavic folk tales/mythology.
But also Elder Speech/Hen Llinge is heavily based on Welsh and Irish.
I'm trying to figure out if the Grrnichora/Gvaern Ichaer is based on any pre-existing myth, or was it devised by CDPR for Throne breaker?
Anyone know?

Ciri had come to learn that in the Elder Speech such rhetorical devices, although apparently questions, not only did not demand, but quite simply did not brook, a response.

does anybody else think about how all of the darkling’s survival techniques were taught to him by a woman experienced at surviving in a man’s world?
#aleksander morozova#the darkling#shadow and bone#grishaverse#sab#baghra morozova#general kirigan#myramblings#im sorry but *everything* about the way he views men and his oppressors and operates within the system is so incredibly similar#to how women navigate through life#and how they navigate power structures with their oppressors#i think a lot about that scene in ditw when he's observing how his mother seduces men#i find it fascinating#like obviously he's still a 'man in power'#and his privilege as a man is unmistakeable#but i think any analysis of his character as a 'man in power' only is wholly incorrect#especially when it comes to his relationship with the royal family#and baghra tries to teach him how to operate as a man in a man's world#especially with that speech about being a leader of men and reading the relationships between the elders in camp really well#but even that coming from baghra is SO incredibly 'you need to be able to read the power dynamics between men'#so you can learn to navigate them the way i do - as a woman#because that is all she really knows#and the way she teaches him to accept all of the trauma he will inevitably suffer#and instead only teaches him how to mitigate it#how to turn even the worst atrocities committed against him to his own purposes#it is all so VERY#oooauuughh#i think some of the WORST anti character analyses for him#come from people who ignore baghra's influence on him as a parent#in every way

Martin: According to most studies, people's number-one fear is public speaking.
Martin: Number two is death. Death is number two!
Martin: Now, this means to the average person, if you have to go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.

I, Claudius Episode 3 Waiting in the Wings
This is your doing, isn't it? Don't think I don't know. You think you're very clever. You think that by discrediting me, he'll bring your son back from Rhodes. You're so transparent. You want that precious son of yours to follow him when he dies so you can come into your own. But I have two sons. And they both come before yours. So make your mind up to it, Livia. When my father dies, you won't be wanted anymore. So take my advice and climb on the funeral pyre with him!

I love writing Garrus dialogue because this is how he tells Lecrinn that she has no chill:
“Your persistence and lack of restraint are… truly remarkable.”
Or that something sounded better in his head:
“I…” he blushed, “don’t believe that sounded as I intended.”
#i don't always worry about oblivion npc dialogue sounding like oblivion npc dialogue just as long as it's not out of place#but garrus's proper over dramatic speech is part of where i got his personality from and became a staple of the character to me#and i have fun writing it XD#garrus darelliun#oblivion fanfiction#fanfiction#my writing#oblivion#the elder scrolls#tes#that first one is from something i was editing earlier#i'm finally writing again! :D#i only didn't write for two days but that still feels like a long time to me XD

AJ Beckett keeps their cards close to their chest, never letting anyone in and lashing out at anyone who tries. They are on a one-track path to greatness with no room for competition or attachments. So why do they keep revealing more and more about themself to Leramil, when the woman doesn't even ask?
