WoL-Krile Week Thread
Every thing from my week of WoL-Krile posts!
Tumblr media
1. Meeting: Though not open to most people, Ejika was different. It was easier to speak with him, prickly as he could be afterward. Galuf seemed to find joy in the interactions, anyways...
Tumblr media
2. Adventure: "I'll show you where the real adventure is!"
Tumblr media
3. Echo: Aside from the "whispers of the mind," Krile can easily follow aetheric signatures. Some had to find that out the hard way.
Tumblr media
4. Reflections: Someone that is always there, watching out for you and taking solace in your safety. (Can not confirm whether she has a crush on Mits, though.)
Tumblr media
5. Pictomancy: Even a champion has their hero to follow.
Tumblr media
6. Left Behind: We may have forgotten someone...
Tumblr media
7. Family: Blood matters little. Love matters lots.

“Ejika? What are you doing here?”
Krile had not meant to express her surprise–she did her best to flow with Ejika’s capricious moods and fickle whims–but there was no denying that she hadn’t expected to see him. Ejika tended to avoid the Eurekan expedition’s main camp like it was the most dangerous place on the Isle, rather than the safest.
Ejika stopped and crossed his arms defensively, as he so often did when his motives were questioned.
“I decided to take my evening repast while checking up on your progress,” he said. “Is that a problem?”
“No, not at all,” Krile smiled. “Here, let me put down my work and join you.”
“Do as you will.”
Krile placed the two pieces of lifeless magicite into the lockbox at her workbench, secured it, and caught up with Ejika just past the aetheryte. He was looking around, as if unsure where he was meant to go.
“Since you’re here, let’s get out of the wind and cold,” Krile suggested. “We have a firepit inside one of the longhouses.” So far, Pyros was the only camp in which they had been able to repurpose several buildings for the expedition’s use. The longhouses were drafty, but the walls and the roof were intact, which was more than what could be said of most of the domiciles left on the Isle of Val.
Ejika shrugged, but took the lead in heading into the building Krile pointed out to him. Inside, an Auri man was tending to the large communal pot that had been set up over the firepit. The warmth and aroma of a thick and meaty stew bubbling away inside reminded Krile just how hungry she was, and just how long she had been at the mercy of the elements.
She and Ejika were each handed a wooden bowl with a hearty portion, and Ejika sat down at one of the small, lonesome tables near the back. Krile set her own bowl down across from him and pulled out a chair.
“Oh, before I forget,” she said, reaching into one of the oversized pockets on the inside of her jacket, “Tataru is in Kugane, so I had her bake something special for us.”
Krile placed on the table a flat package.
“Go on,” she said.
Ejika undid the package’s string and carefully folded back the layer of cloth. Several thick slices of dark, spongy bread lay within. Ejika blinked.
“Yes, she made us Archon Loaf,” Krile said with a bit of pleased mischief, hopping up into her chair. “She figured we could use a taste of home out here.” She paused, her face falling slightly. “I suppose this place is home. Or was. But it’s barely recognizable now.”
“Archon Loaf is ideal on a lengthy expedition such as this,” was all Ejika said in reply as he neatly tore a piece off of one of the slices. “Give Tataru my thanks.”
“I will.”
They sat in silence then, each mulling over their thoughts between bites of stew and bread. Ejika, Krile knew, would not confront the topic hovering between them without a nudge. And when else would there be time? As soon as he was finished with his meal, it was all but certain that he would immediately leave camp.
Ejika cleared his throat. “So, how are things proceeding here?”
Krile stirred her soup, gazing into its opaque contents. “Slowly, I fear. We are having some trouble tracking down confluences. Not long after we pinpoint a location for one, it seems to disappear shortly thereafter.”
“Hm.”
Krile looked up at him. “And you? Are you having any success in accessing Headquarters?”
Ejika shook his head. “Im still working on it.”
“I still hope against hope it’s not too late for survivors,” Krile murmured.
Ejika grimaced and muttered something under his breath.
Krile set down her spoon, suddenly tired of his evasiveness. “You’re wondering why it was me, aren’t you,” she stated. “You’re thinking about whether it was fair that I was the one to survive, out of everyone.”
Ejika stiffened. “No, I’m not,” he said shortly. As if in defiance of her own actions, he stubbornly took another bite of stew and patted his mouth with a napkin. “I know why it was you. Because you were chosen by the Mothercrystal for special protection.”
Krile shook her head. “That’s not what I mean. You wonder why I was chosen for her Blessing in the first place. You always have.”
Ejika was silent. There was no point in voicing a denial when he had admitted as much in the past.
“Well, so do I,” Krile said, looking him straight in the eye. “What’s so special about me? The answer, Ejika, is that I don’t know.”
Ejika rolled his eyes, but Krile pressed on. “It just is, and I try to make the best of it. I try to affect as much good as I can.”
Ejika’s face contorted with disgust. “Oh, how tragic for you, to be given the burden of carrying on a prestigious legacy.”
Krile, despite herself, rankled. “Is that a burden you truly want, Ejika?” she demanded. “If no one survived, do you want to be responsible for all of those lives, all of their hopes and dreams and what they might have accomplished? Or do you just want all of the glory with none of the responsibility?”
Ejika opened his mouth, outraged.
“I’m not done,” Krile said, her expression hurt but resolute. “They were my friends, too. My family. Do you truly think I feel ‘blessed’ that I survived when in all likelihood they did not?”
The acknowledgement briefly winded both of them.
Ejika set his own spoon down. “Aren’t you grateful to be alive?” he challenged.
“Of course I am!” Krile responded, exasperated. “But that’s not the same as reveling in being spared! Grandfather may have been getting on in his years, but he still had so much to give this world. The same goes for all the others!”
Although Krile had been careful not to raise her voice overmuch, she suddenly realized she had risen from her seat, her fists clenched.
She abruptly sat back down. “You’ve not once asked me what the experience was like,” she murmured.
Ejika’s own hands remained clenched on the table. He couldn’t meet her eyes. “I didn’t want to bring up traumatic memories for you,” he finally muttered, “muddled or not.”
“And yet you use your ignorance as a club to strike me with as you please.” Krile sighed.
“The guilt that I am here and they are not weighed on me for a long time. And since I awoke on Old Sharlayan, I haven’t had a proper moment to grieve. To process it. To take it all in. Tell me, Ejika: have you?”
Ejika bowed his head. The steam from the bowl fogged his glasses, obscuring his eyes. It was something which Krile might have found amusing, even endearing–but in this moment just made her feel even more distant from him.
“I see,” Krile said finally, reaching forward for her own slice of bread. “And now we’re here on this isle, which feels like the last place to mourn when there are so many mysteries to unravel and so many aether-warped monstrosities out to kill us.”
She looked down at the slice she held in her hand, the nostalgia of it giving her a sudden pang of melancholy. “But you and I…neither of us have made the time. Once all this is over, I think we should.”
Ejika did not lift his head. “Thank you for the meal,” he muttered, pushing his bowl away and standing up. Krile could see he had barely gotten through half his portion. Perhaps she should have waited until they’d had more to eat–
“Ejika,” she said–pleaded.
Ejika took a deep breath. “If I see your adventurer friend out and about, I will pass on any new information I have. I trust it will get to you, as before.”
Against the backdrop of this frozen land, Ejika–with his silver hair and white clothes–had always looked a bit like a ghost to Krile. And in that moment, he disappeared like one back out into the snow.

You know that scene in Endwalker where people from all across Eorzea helped find the adamantite needed for the Ragnarok, and if you'd done certain raids or story content the people involved in those raids and story content would show up or be mentioned in some capacity? As touching and cool as it was, I still think it was a missed opportunity to highlight just how beloved the Warrior of Light is.
"But wait," you say. "Didn't we have that in Shadowbringers, when all the factions in Norvrandt came together to help build the great Talos that would drag down Mt. Gulg? Didn't they all come to help the Warrior of Darkness put an end to the Light?"
Well, no. Not really. Sure it was the Warrior of Darkness and Thancred who'd made friends with the miners of Twine, but Alisaie had known the people of Mord Souq and the Inn at Journey's Head far longer than the Warrior of Darkness had. They were her people the way the Night's Blessed were Y'shtola— I mean, Master Matoya's. Urianger was going to ask the fae folk before deciding to ask the Crystarium's people instead, and those were the Exarch's people. The fae folk were Urianger's. Alphinaud went to Kholusia, and they were his people. In other words, other than being the mythical figure that the Scions and the Crystal Exarch believed whole-heartedly would save the world from succumbing to the Light, the Warrior of Darkness had very little to do with rallying the various factions of Norvrandt to their aid. The Scions and the Crystal Exarch had been in Norvrandt for centuries, years, months. At best, the Warrior of Darkness had been in Norvrandt for a few weeks. They did not come for the Warrior of Darkness. They came for the Scions and the Crystal Exarch, and to see the Light extinguished.
This is not the case in Endwalker, if you'd done the various raids and story content involved. Without them, it's an assortment of the people the Scions had been involved with: Ishgardians and pirates from Limsa Lominsa, the East Aldenard Trading Company and the Kojin, the Ironworks, the junior Scions, and the treasure hunters of Idyllshire. With them, you get direct assistance from the Redbills, the Bozjans, Ejika Tsunjika, the Four Lords, the Majestic Theater Company, Gaius Baelsar himself, and the Idyllshire goblins—people who had next to no contact with the Scions and only lent their aid because they were friends with the Warrior of Light (or at least owed them one, in the case of Gaius Baelsar). They didn't know shit about the Scions or saving the world, they just heard the Warrior of Light was involved and immediately offered their assistance.
And I wish the game would acknowledge that! The game makes a big fuss in Dawntrail about how the Warrior of Light has walked the world and has loved and been loved in return, but this scene would have been the perfect chance to showcase it! You have all these people very clearly and directly intending their aid for the Warrior of Light—Leofard and the Redbills personally flying to Old Sharlayan to deliver the supplies; Soroban and Hancock passing messages from the Four Lords and the Lexentales, the Bozjans and Ejika Tsunjika; Gaius going back to Valens' Weapons experiments—likely an endeavour that hurt—to find relics suitable for the Ragnarok's purposes; the Idyllshire goblins giving their all because how could they do any less for their dear friend in their hour of need?
All these people offered their aid not for the Scions, not to save the world, but because the Warrior of Light needed their aid, and while it was a great scene for the player, I can't help but wish it's acknowledged in-universe as well.

21 year old Ojika Tsunjika differs from his 22 year old cousin, Ejika, in a few ways. In contrast to the somber Ejika, Ojika has a cheering disposition. This can be seen in the fact that he makes the lodgers' beds personally to provide that extra touch of comfort.

Do you ship Krile with anyone?
Actually, Mun Lanna lowkey kinda ships Krile with Ejika Tsunjika from the Eureka Raids! But very vaguely. Outside of this, no real ships at the moment! Always open, though.
