Alright, I have mostly restrained myself, but I cannot stay quiet any longer. There is a question that has been eating at me...

Whose fucking idea was it to have Henry (Nicholas) constantly grabbing Alex's (Taylor's) hair?!

Note: I'm adding this in after finishing writing this because this was supposed to be a relatively short post, and then it spiraled out of control, so if you want to listen to me gradually lose my sanity over this question, feel free to keep reading, cause it is admittedly funny lmfao

Another Note: This is me being overly sarcastic and hyper cause it’s funny for me to think about that situation. This is supposed to be a funny post. I said that at the end, but I’m adding it here too.

Listen, remember what they said about the intimate scenes: they were planned down to every detail. Remember what Nicholas said about having conversations with Taylor, Matthew, and Robbie about boundaries, what was okay, and not okay. Remember that they have A LINE IN THE FILM ABOUT HENRY GRABBING HIS HAIR (iconic).

Do you see it? Do you see where this is going?

The hair pulling/grabbing is not random. It doesn't happen in just the New Year's kiss to set up a funny line later.

It happens all the time.

Even in soft moments, Henry has a hand in his hair.

The hair grabbing gets its own shot in their love-making scene.

Consistent small actions (twisting a ring, biting nails, drumming with fingers, etc.) are character habits. They're things that they do all the time, subconsciously or for a decisive reason, usually if you know that action causes a specific response that you want for any reason.

There's a coworker that drives you crazy, so you purposefully hum really loudly whenever they're in the room to piss them off. Your friend has a sensitivity to the color red, so on days you know you're going to see them, you avoid wearing it. Your partner has muscle cramps, so you massage their shoulders whenever you're standing behind them.

These habits usually start as conscious decisions, then gradually become subconscious, hence the term "habit". You've been doing something for so long or for frequently enough that you do it while on "autopilot".

I think it's pretty obvious why this action happens. It's because A: Henry likes feeling of his hair, and/or B: Alex likes when someone touches his hair. Note: This could be in any context, not just sexual; running fingers through it, washing it, styling it, etc.

Either you figured out what I am going to say, and you're wondering why I'm blabbering on so much, or you're just confused about where I'm going with this at all, so here's where it all clicks together.

When you have a character, habits are something you give them to give them more personality, more insight into their mentality through subtle things they do. It's something the director/writer/actor chooses to give to the character.

BUT - nothing in the intimacy scenes happen without being discussed and agreed upon.

This isn't like Nicholas fidgeting with the signet ring to show Henry's nerves. This isn't like Taylor frequently making little hand gestures (peace signs, finger guns, tapping the side of his glass, etc.) because Alex has undiagnosed ADHD and that's one way to physically imply it.

They can do those things without being told or given "permission" because it's their portrayal of the character, it doesn't effect anyone else, and small details like that are typically up to the actors, unless the director is incredibly strict.

BUT - AGAIN WITH FEELING - NOTHING IN THE INTIMACY SCENES HAPPEN WITHOUT BEING DISCUSSED AND AGREED UPON.

That means that someone, one of the four of them, brought up grabbing his hair as a suggestion, and further more, Taylor (and Nick, but obviously Taylor's consent is more important in this specific case) was fine with it.

Think about it. Think about them sitting around a table discussing the kinds of stuff that Matthew and Robbie would want to see, and what Nick and Taylor would be okay with. Think about the fact that one of them was sitting there, and looked at the other three, and said: "What if Henry grabs Alex's hair a lot?"

And then the four of them had to sit there, and talk, in depth, about what that would mean.

Who... the fuck... said it?

WHO SAID IT?!

Did Matthew and Robbie present it as part of the initial planning?? Or did one of them look Taylor and Nick in the eye and say it?? Did Nick throw it out there as something he thought Henry would do?? Was it Taylor??? Since it's his hair???

Cause it's not just like, running Nick running his fingers through it, combing it during some tender moment, like when Alex talks about his father being an immigrant.

HE FUCKING GRABS IT.

What the fuck were these conversations like?! I cannot think of a single way to have that conversation where someone wouldn't have to say something that would make me make me go UHHH-

What? So - Matthew's like "how do you guys feel about touching each other's hair?" -and they're like "what, you mean like running our fingers through it?" -and he's like "nah yanking it while you're making out"

Like... what do you say to that?! - "oh which one of us would do it to the other?" -and what, did Taylor fucking volunteer?? Just like - "he can pull my hair, it's chill" - WTF?!

Or did he suggest it in the first place, like they were discussing things that would that could be part of Alex and Henry's dynamic and he's just like - "he could pull my hair?" -and the other three just stared at him for a second, because wtf that's a intensely intimate action to suggest?!

Hair touching in general is really intimate, in like, every context, at least I think to most people, and definitely to me. Most people wouldn't just let someone, even someone they were friends with, start playing with their hair or touching their head. I wouldn't even let my best friend randomly touch my head; I would instinctually try to bite their hand off (not a joke). Maybe I'm a slight bit more touch-repulsed than most, but I feel like it's safe to say that the majority of people don't want their hair and head being touched, grabbed, or played with unless they say so.

And again, they do it CONSISTENTLY. It's not a one and done scene. It is an actual dynamic between Alex and Henry they chose to establish.

SO I ASK AGAIN: WHOSE IDEA WAS IT?!

I'm looking at you four, Matthew, Robbie, Taylor, and Nicholas. I know it was one of you cheeky bastards that suggested it. One of you brought it up, and the rest of you were like "sure".

I will be forever haunted by this mystery, as I doubt I will ever get an answer.

He can get a little overwhelmed when you're in a hyper state, maybe even a little annoyed, but he's trying his best to be better about it. It's not that you are actually what's bugging him, he's just not used to so much talking, he doesn't know how to react when you want to tell him every detail about a book you just read or a show you just finished. To him this is whole new territory that he's not really comforting with yet.

However, when he does find a way to sit and listen to you patiently and you give him that smile of finally being heard...he finds it very very cute. He'd never say it aloud though...

To be silent:

He's the king of the silent game, the second you no longer want to talk, he no longer wants to either. He may look grumpy while he sits across from you or lays in bed staring aimlessly at the ceiling, but this is the time you both use to unwind. He loves those moments with you because it calms him, calms both of you and it's easy. If you're hyper fixating, he's not far away, destressing about social interactions and classes at the academia. If you need a break from speaking cause you just can't anymore, he's feeling the same...and ever so often he lets you closer to him to cuddle, but it's so sappy to him that it only ever rarely happens. When it does though, it's very enjoyable.

Xiao:

He's always happy to hear your voice, to hear that excited fast tone you get when you're talking about something you're currently obsessed with. For so long he'd gone without much conversation that now he craves it from you, to the point that he'd sit on the roof with you all night while you went on and on about everything. Till you eventually fall asleep on him that is, then he'd carry you to bed and hope you'd find him the next day to do it all over again.

To be silent:

He understands everyone needs a break from socialising sometimes, but he struggles with how big of a break you want. It's difficult for him when you're hyperfixated and he wants to know wether or not you want him nearby, he can't exactly ask because he doesn't want to disturb you. When you go mute just so you don't have to talk, he finds himself feeling awkward cause he's not sure if you want to be alone or not.

More often then not he's very gentle with his voice and movements, tiptoeing around you because he knows better then anyone that alone time is alone time. If you do initiate a cuddle when you're in a silent phase, he will gladly accept and pet your head to comfort you.

As a god he's met all different types of people and has came up with many a ways to make them feel cared for. You are no exception. The second you start telling him about about a song you've just heard that you're in love with, he will learn it just for you. Say you are obsessing over a new item you've just bought, he wants to know all about it. He gets just as happy as you, if not happier because he loves how bright your smile is.

Just as before, when someone's silent around him, he understands completely. He will get out his quietest instruments and provide gentle background music, improving on his lyrics or coming up with new tunes to play later, all while you're hyperfixated on something or another. He will sing you songs when you don't want to talk so you won't ever feel awkward about lack of noise. And when you truly want pure silence, he sits by you and holds your hand, letting the quiet settle in.

Hallo! Could I possibly request a Tim Drake x M!Reader?

Seeing your autistic reader mirroring the batboys. I think it would be funny seeing the other Batboys (+ Batman maybe), react to reader and Tim mirroring eachother.

Maybe it doesn't start right away, but builds up steam over time. It starting with them rocking back in forth in sync while bouncing off info from an going case, to them picking up mannerisms.

Then maybe continued with their wardrobes becoming so mixed up, they just have double the clothes.

Honsetly, the thought of Damien being creeped out by Tim and Reader lifting their cups of coffee or energy drinks up in unison, makes me laugh harder than it should.

That or Bruce seeing Reader and Tim mirroring eachothers fighting style for the frist time and just like, 'what the fuck???'. Because, he probably tested Damien for autism snice they are blood, it's generic. Maybe, Dick for ADHD.

Headcanons

Funny thing is I hc that pretty much the entire batfam is on the autism spectrum in some way or another. Bruce is autistic , Dick has ADHD or ADD, Jason has ASD or ODD, Tim is autistic, Damian is autistic and mild OCD.

Is this me projecting onto my comfort characters? Yes, yes it is. But come on, look at the batfam and tell me there isn’t at least a little tism in all of them.

You are also very right in Bruce just not noticing the signs in most of his kids since he’s autistic himself and that behavior is the norm for him. Alfred was most likely the one who had Bruce tested when he was younger, so it would have to be Alfred who steps in and advises them to get checked out, just in case.

Tim just happens to slip under the radar, maybe because of the stress at the time he joined the family, or they were all just too busy at the time, so it just slipped their minds.

Tim is also very good as masking, having grown up with his parents, acting “strange” wasn’t allowed, so he’s mastered the skill of hiding his less approved quirks. So, you’ll never see him stimming or rocking in public, or around people for that matter.

It was only after you two started dating and became very close that he started to let it slip, unconsciously of course. But it’s because he doesn’t feel the need to hide around you, and you are one of his comfort people.

The family doesn’t fully notice in the beginning as Tim grows more comfortable not masking and starts mirroring you. Infodumping is a common occurrence in the family, especially with the type of work they do, so when Tim is talking to you about cameras or his favorite band in extreme detail, They just think it’s a normal happening.

Damian is the first to notice, and he would think you two are trying to punk him somehow. When you and Tim always do things in tandem, picking up your drinks at the same time, always pushing your chairs back and getting up together, using the same type of glass or plates, etc.

He wouldn’t confront either of you obviously, since he doesn’t want to play into your hands. But then your mirroring becomes even more obvious. Like mirroring stims, meaning Tim starts stimming the same way you do.

Do you flap your hands? Tim now does too. Verbal stims? Catch Tim making the same noises over comms during patrol. You both also come to enjoy the same textures if you don’t already, because those textures remind you of each other.

It finally clicks for Bruce when he sees Tim and you wearing each other’s clothes and using stim toys, whilst rocking back and forth on the couch, excited to see your comfort movie. It makes Bruce want to facepalm because it’s been so obvious this entire time.

When he asks Alfred about it, the Brit just gives him a bland look whilst saying something along the lines of “Master Bruce, I thought it was obvious from the start”, because Bruce has a habit picking up kids with the tism.

After that Tim finally gets tested and gets his diagnosis. Not that it changes anything other than what’s on paper. But it does help Tim feel better, as in the past he probably struggled with feeling wrong or like he didn’t fit in.

When Damian also realizes you two weren’t trying to dupe him, he settles with his arms crossed and huffs, saying that of course that was the reason since you two couldn’t get the upper hand on him anyways.

The entire fam shares fidget toys or different coping things. The house is stocked with everyone’s comfort food, clothes, media, etc. The walls are made so sound doesn’t pass through them, the fridge and electronics are also upgraded so they don’t make those buzzing sounds. It’s like autism heaven.

You also are included since your dating Tim, and you two are very happy together. The family is also thankful in you helping Tim come out of his shell, even though neither of you realized you were doing it.

Something that i don't see much people actively talk about is how Ink canonically has a hard time understanding social interaction.

I think that Comyet's words is interesting to say the least. "With him hardly having a proper social understanding", if you don't know, social understanding is the ability to comprehend social cues, norms, and the emotions of others in interpersonal interactions. It includes skills such as empathy, perspective-taking, recognizing social contexts, and understanding the subtle dynamics of social situations.

So, by saying that Ink hardly has a proper social understanding, it means that he shows issues difficulty reading social cues, has challenges in empathy, problems with conversations (like initiating, maintaining, or reciprocating conversations, and may be overly blunt or inappropriate in their responses. Which is canon does), limited perspective-taking etc...

Yes yes nod nod that is something I've noticed people don't address as much either when they really should be instead of talking about Ink like he's a fucking toddler in an adult body that looks to be in its mid to late twenties.

It's just easier for some to assume he's stupid because of details like this in his neurodivergency. It's easier to make assumptions than do one's actual fucking research on the Autism/ADHD spectrum, because struggles with social interaction is a prevalent result of the symptoms of these conditions and more.

Society wasn't built to accommodate or understand the neurodivergent, and addressing characters like Ink through such a narrow lens is what leads to a lot of his characteristics either being ignored completely or written off as a "joke" or inherently antagonistic when neurodivergency in and of itself doesn't have a fucking alignment chart.

Or rather the whole thing about making art for yourself, I used to get a lot of attention for being good at art from other ppl and I'm not sure how to connect it back to myself again

I'm also contending with the Autism "It needs to be done in this way" and the ADHD "I can't focus for shit"

i think a good way to get back into creating *for yourself* whether its to come out of a dry spell or just to get back to creating things that you like, is what i call 'backtracking' (bearing in mind that my particular methods may only work for me! im lucky ive never struggled with focus when it comes to drawing things, but maybe some of these things will help as my main goal when drawing is to entertain myself!)

also before i move on this i think is valuable: you gotta draw things that you aren't gonna post sometimes. it's fun and fulfilling to make art for an audience, and wanting attention is not shameful (ITS HUMAN!) but also we live in panopticon times and i think its good to train your "i am alone doing something for myself and no one has to see it" muscles.

backtracking is a couple different things:

look back to when you were really young. what kinds of drawings were the most fun to do? what did you spend time on or get really into? for me, this was a few things! tracing cartoons, drawing up elaborate scenes of lots of little creatures doing a thing, and designing little characters as paper dolls and making their houses and little furniture and accessories and such to cut out and play with. also getting paint all over my hands (i still paint my whole hand whenever im done doing something with acrylics before i wash up! its stimming)! backtracking here is when you try to take those things and make use of them now. try to find that old joy and use it in a way that makes you happy today, even if it's something small or silly or embarrassing. it can really help you rediscover what parts of art make YOU happy!

if you're regularly drawing and in a slump, backtracking for me is stepping back and doing either more exercises and practising the things you feel like you already know how to draw (ie. studying angles of the face or pulling up imgs of rooms on pinterest to see how normal people arrange furniture etc.), or simplifying your drawings to a level that feels more relaxing and less stressful. (ie. chibis instead of more detailed characters etc.) i find i kind of fall back to chibis when i feel lost, and then sort of rebuild from there. its fun to let my style change as i grow!

ALSO! im telling your autism this for your adhd's sake (this is useful for anyone i think): if there is a part of art that you do not enjoy doing or find boring but you feel it is an important or necessary step in the process? the secret is it isnt! art is made up. if you hate lining, dont do it! if youre a digital artist and get caught up picking a brush every time because you feel like you need the perfect one? switch to mspaint for a bit to get the nerves out. it can be really freeing!

art is for having fun and fulfilling our need to create. the rules are all made up and not real. perfectionism is the little death that something something i forget. yeah

Now not all games had bad gameplay in the series and in later versions some Of Danny phantom’s friends (as well as some of SpongeBob’s) were added into the games and in one of the games series Invader Zim was added

Ok not all the games gameplay was all good but the cut scenes to a lot of these games were quite funny to watch; use to remember liking to watch a lot of YouTubers play these games for just the cut scenes or some YouTubers would only show the cutscenes they’d film from their play though of said games

So if you wanted to bring those games back to life hmm you’re to start with Jimmy Tommy power hour being as that’s what got nick to start out the nicktoons unite games back in the day and being as fairly odd parents Jimmy neutron Danny Phantom SpongeBob were the most popular cartoons Nick had at the time they designed to do a crossover game with them 1st being as the Jimmy Timmy power hour was such a great hit then they started to add in other series like there was this one cartoon series Nick had that started out as a game then became a cartoon on Nick and they had added that cartoon’s character to join the nicktoons unite games team

Then they did add in invader zim with Zim and dib but they only did that with one game (because the creator of invader zim wasn’t willing to have them in more game series is my guess not sure the details)

Then other games had as I said before started to have Danny’s friends join the team in some games and I think a few of that cartoon that started out as a game then became a show have some other characters join in on that as well as some of SpongeBob’s friends

You have some good ideas but I recommend maybe trying to watch some YouTube videos about the games or look up videos that show the cut scenes because I feel like a lot of us (well maybe not all just I have a feeling quite a few) use to love watching those cut scenes on YouTube because the cut scenes in these games were quite fun so I think YouTube might still have them

Before you plan to add other cartoons series characters to it although I can see My life as a teenage robot would fit being as she is a superhero in her series; and as much as I loved angry beavers; Rugrats and catdog I know those cartoons couldn’t interact with a superhero fighting team.. well Rugrats or rocket power couldn’t maybe catdog and angry beavers could but Rugrats even when all grown up couldn’t really fit into a fighting team as the loud house wouldn’t fit into it either

reason: She does object to the way society works for feminist reasons, but it’s made clear through the duration of the show that the it upsets her in particular because she struggles to “fit in” with society’s rules and expectations, even when she tries to. Her family considers her to be (affectionately) different and odd and say (paraphrasing) there’s no way she’s ever going to conform to society’s expectations. She often talks for prolonged periods of time but will also stop when interrupted. You can see her, like, light up when asked to talk about her thoughts/what she’s interested in (there’s That One Scene from S3 Pt 1 with Cressida which is just sooo infodumping to me). She struggles with activities that require her to sit still or be quiet for a long time (like presenting herself to the Queen & parties in general) and seems generally very restless (she also runs away from balls a lot, something she did even before she was hanging out with Theo). She is thought of as “loud.” She can be impulsive and say/do things without fully thinking them through. She struggles during conversations and forgets to ask/press people for details about what they’re thinking, but not because she doesn’t care: When people explicitly tell her how they’re feeling personally she does demonstrate compassion. Especially in her conversations with her best friend Penelope in season 1 and 2, Pen doesn’t feel listened to because she will imply things during conversation that El doesn’t pick up on, which is what I think causes a lot of problems in their relationship. (mandatory disclaimer not blaming Pen for this either, I just think they both struggled to communicate because they were doing it differently) I also think that while it IS tied to her beliefs in feminism too, her hyperfocused interest in Whistledown feels so much like a hyperfixation to me. She’s also hated by large parts of the fandom for reasons that essentially boil down to “being too loud/annoying.” And idk, what is more Girl With ADHD than that? Other traits of hers that aren’t necessarily symptoms of ADHD but I relate to them and feel they’re connected to my ADHD: very competitive, very unintentionally expressive (on her face and body), very curious/questioning everything, reading a lot, feeling like people treat her more like a “quirky” form of entertainment than taking her thoughts/feelings seriously. I looked up at the small, light pink Victorian house that stood in front of me. It looked rather large from the front, what with the. . . gazebo. . .looking thing. . . I don't know what it's called- house attachment to the side and the tower where my bedroom resided, but in reality, it was very small on the inside. It didn't extend very far back.

It was probably the one day out of the year that it wasn't raining in Forks, and for that I was grateful. The sunlight made the house look even more welcoming, the light shining through the glass of the windows.

I didn't really dread the house, though it had been some years since I had been here. More than ten.

Forks, Washington. Named after a common eating utensil. Population- not enough for people not to notice me.

Not that people wouldn't have noticed me anyways.

For one thing, my name was Davina Michaelson. And the only thing I could say about it was that I was glad my last name wasn't spelled Mikelson, because the teasing was bad enough already.

My mother had been ecstatic when she married my father. She had been determined to name me Elijah or Kol or Niklaus or Rebekah when I was born. She was a huge Vampire Diary fan and as a consequence, so was I. Luckily, I got named Davina instead because of my dark brown, almost black, hair and being a girl.

For another thing, I was a complete geek. My favorite things to say were lines from Harry Potter, when conversing about politics I quoted Tom MacDonald, and whenever someone asked if I knew an interesting fact, it was always about animals and usually something sexual.

Did you know that if Female Ferrets don't have sex when they go into heat they die?

I couldn't read enough books. Kane Chronicles, Percy Jackson, Spirit Animals, Red Queen, Hunger Games, Maze Runner, anything fictional, fantasy, and mystical.

Not to mention, reading said books had given me a non-existent romantic life as all of my standards had been lifted by Severus Snape, Lucius Malfoy, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, Elijah Mikelson (basically all the Mikelsons minus Finn), Damon Salvatore, Alaric Saltzman, Enzo, Marcel, Newt, Minho, Gale, etc.

And then, there's my favorite app- Wattpad.

Sorry, I get it, it's a notorious fanfiction app, but still, that's why I read it. It's basically the only way for me to feel like an actual character in Harry Potter marrying Severus Snape or The Originals marrying Damon Salvatore.

AND SMUT! Except I really hate authors that rob you of reading that juicy part of the book. I mean, if you're going to put the mature label on your book, you might as well write in deep detail, right?

Basically I was on Wattpad 24-7.

But I mean, there's something about older men that's absolutely. . . enticing. Of course, completely illegal but you know, Hollywood made all the older guys hot so we're all fucked up.

Anyways, what was I saying?

Oh right, yes, sticking out in Forks.

So let's see, girl who moved away and came back, nineteen year old going to high school, complete geek. . . missing anything?

My looks I guess.

I'm average. Not slender, not fat. Not extremely beautiful, not entirely ugly either. Average. Someone who normally could've blended in if she had lived here her entire life. Plus I had green and blue streaks in my hair, and I couldn't imagine anyone else in this town having streaks. Not that I had many streaks, and with my dark hair, they barely stood out.

Any more details?

Heart shaped face, doe eyes, brown eyes that matched my hair, not extremely pale skin, but not overly tan either considering I had moved here from Kentucky. Slap in the mild ADHD and OCD and you have me!

Mild meaning I'm not overly ADHD or OCD, mild enough that most people don't notice it if they don't know me well, and even if they do, I'm pretty good at hiding it.

So, what exactly brought me to Forks?

Hmm, good question, be sorry you asked.

I had lived in Forks as a young girl, my best friend being Sam Uley- should see how he's doing now that I'm here- and my parents lived here for a while.

Dad had been in the military and we'd resided in Forks for a few years while he was on leave with his new son- who had the unfortunate luck of being called Kol. I think mom found it funny. Davina and Kol. Now that I've watched the show, I think it's rather disturbing.

But when I was about eight, we moved away to Fort Knox, Kentucky. For the majority of my life, I lived on the base. So I was well trained in martial arts, military tactics, and how to use different guns. I mean, not like they actually taught me, but when I got bored of school, I left, and would sneak into the training room, crouching down in a corner, behind a blind spot of a camera, and look out through the mats.

Mom had signed me up for Tae Kwon Do and Gymnastics when I asked. Everything else I learned from sneaking around and spying.

Anyways, when I turned seventeen, there was a big. . . to-do in the camp. Someone betrayed the soldiers and the camp was destroyed. My parents and brother died. I was one of the very few survivors.

School was put to a stop, I was shifted into foster care while I waited for some relative to come and get me. No relatives showed, I spent year eighteen working and saving money to buy a plane ticket- not even a car- so that I could get here, to Forks, where our home was.

And once I was in Forks, I had access to all the money that mom and dad left me in their will so that was fantastic. I'd still have to work though if I wanted to keep the house.

But it also meant that I could go back to school and get my high school diploma. . . how embarrassing. But no one had to know. No one was going to know.

I carefully fit the bronze key into the locked door, giving it a turn, and then pushing in, turning it. I had never been good with keys and locks, and this house was old.

Luckily, it gave and the door opened. I wrinkled my nose. Well, I was going to have to open all the windows and let the breeze in.

I set the suitcases down by the door, inside, flipping the light switch on. It took a minute for the lights to respond before the house lit up.

I moved around the house, opening all the windows- the ones that would open at least- before moving back downstairs to take care of the furniture.

When we'd left, we'd covered all the furniture with plastic. Now, I took a pocket knife- one I had carved myself with my limited artistic ability- and started working on undoing the plastic carefully, releasing the furniture from its suffocation.

Then there was the cleaning, washing windows, wiping down counters, sweeping the wooden floors, vacuuming the carpeted floors, taking out dishes to wash and then put back away, and unpack my suitcases before finally declaring myself done for the day.

I closed all the windows- just in time as the rain decided it wanted to greet me too- and then headed upstairs, flopped on the bed, and fell asleep without even bothering to look around.

I woke up, stretching, trying to remember what day it was and if I had anything important I was supposed to be doing. I slid out of bed, taking a look around the slightly familiar bedroom. My bed was built into the wall, and there were two of them as mom had been expecting twins with me- the other not making it.

Across from the beds was my desk, white, clean so far as I hadn't had a chance to do any homework there, along with a pink chair. The bean bag was in the middle of the room, my purse hanging on the door handle.

Adjacent to the beds, across from the window of the tower, was my closet. Because of the circular shape of the room, it was a walk in closet. Shirts and pants hung on one side, bathing suits, dresses, and seasonal clothes were on the other side. I had about three pairs of shoes- sneakers, combat boots, and one pair of heels that were probably too small for me.

By the closet doors was a small bookcase, holding only my favorite books. Hanging above the bookcase was a Harry Potter calendar for eleven years ago. I would have to get a new one.

I pulled out my phone to check what day it was and sighed in disappointment.

The day I got to start school.

Wonderful.

Grumbling, I headed to the closet, pulling on skinny, light-blue jeans, a long-sleeved olive-green shirt, and my black combat boots. I also grabbed the leather jacket, sliding it over my arms. I grabbed my old backpack, a Hufflepuff themed one with all sorts of pins from every world possible, slinging it over my shoulder and heading downstairs.

As I had no food in the house, my main priority for now was figuring out how I was going to get to school.

I really needed a car.

On a habit whim, I grabbed one of my books, shoving it into my bag, making my way out the front door.

The rain was holding off, but the sky was gray, the air was moist, and I just knew it was going to at least drizzle.

So I grabbed my blue butterfly decorated umbrella too.

My stomach growled with protests as I locked the door, making my way down the empty driveway and then I paused, glancing at the garage. Oh dear.

Hesitantly, both hopeful and not hopeful, I pushed the garage door up. My heart sank and soared at the same time.

I was wrong- I did have a vehicle.

Dad's old Harley Motorcycle sat in the garage. It was a beautiful machine that I had always loved as a kid and my mom had detested calling it 'a death trap'. It was a beautiful shiny teal colour with two large silver containers on the sides that held whatever you wanted to put in there. It would fit two people on the black leather seats.

The good part about the motorcycle was that I now have a vehicle to get myself back and forth to school. The bad part was the 24-7-365 schedule for rain.

I pursed my lips. I could walk or I could ride the motorcycle and put a tarp over it during the day to keep it dry. I could also stash sets of dry clothes in the carriers so that if I had to change my clothes, I could. My bag could easily go in the other one. Along with the umbrella and anything else I needed, which was never much.

I started to grin, feeling lighter now that all of my problems were starting to disappear.

Oh, today was going to be fun.

45 Do you want to break your readers‘ heart or make them laugh? Bold to assume I can't do both, even at the same time! Really, I want people reading my stuff to feel something, which emotions really depend on the fic and the reader too. But anything from devastated to comforted, I like the contrast even and possibly especially within the same fic.

54 What’s your favorite part about the fanfiction writing process?

Oh that is hard to say because there are so many parts! The feeling of brilliance when weaving words together, the flow of the story and the emotions, characters and plot, shaping them to fit together as it all falls into place. Navigating the twists and turns and problem solving, often turning ideas upside down for something unexpected. I think a good example of this is the thinking of not how this would be out of character but what extreme would it take to drive the character to do this or act this way. Or filling a prompt in a way thats not the first obvious way. Im always very analytical about this and I enjoy it. Expanding horizons with finding new ideas and perspectives of looking at the world. Seeing what the story and the characters do and what is revealed as it plays out as sometimes it can be quite surprising where it goes, especially the how it happens. Also which themes emerge, as they often give me unexpected but oh of course this was what it was about it couldntve been any other way insight into both myself and the characters, that I wouldntve come to without writing it. Honestly, I couldnt not write even when its a struggle to make the story work and I demonstrably go a bit insane if I dont.

71 When it comes to more complicated narratives, how do you keep track of outlines, characters, development, timeline, ect.?

Id say its a combination of jumbled but very thorough notes and ideas for things and in my head. Im generally fairly the plotter and I tend to know where Im going before I get to it even in my head, but it also can be very fluid and often changes along the way so sometimes those notes get outdated. They are often either organised by obsessive logic or chaos. Otherwise, it lives in my head and all the threads and details are there, all connected in a web is the best way to describe it. Ive got a pretty decent memory for putting it together, though sometimes it can become like juggling too many balls in the air. This is all very shaped by the fact Im both autistic and adhd!

Ive answered all these both pretty wordily and abstractly but here it is!

You comrades really decided to blow up my brain with positive validation today, I'm literally feeling like an overly excited pup who got all the treats and bellyrubs and praise. Or maybe it's all that chocolate I ate, not sure. In other words THANK YOU??? *cue me crying every time I see someone on tumblr complain about people making characters OOC cuz I think it's about me*

So, as you can see, I am most definitely not someone who's confident in my capabilities of staying in character. Also, I have never, NEVER studied writing in any shape or form - I enjoyed my literature classes a lot, sure, but there is zero grams of purposeful theory studying in my gorilla head and I'm pretty damn sure it shows. Everything I write is super intuitive, and I can count on one hand how many times I made conscious desicions to adopt something for my writing style or smth. And it still was just "oh hey I like that thingy, want that in my text", no theory behind it.

So here are some

Juju's Tips on How To Maybe Stay In Character (Based On Guesses And Prayers To Gorilla Totem)

Simplify. Before everyone starts rightfully throwing rotten tomatoes at me, lemme explain: of course you won't go far if you actually take a character and shrink him down to a single trait. This is actually a very dangerous advice if applied half-assed, because this is how we get Bucky Barnes and those fucking plums (I hope this wasn't a Russian-fandom thing only). While it is good for memes and fandom to take one such thing and exaggerate, it's hurtful to the overall character image in fandom and your writing. Characters, while not fully-fledged people, are still multidimensional!

Why would I give such a shitty tip then, you ask? Well because it's a tip for your start. Take your character and try to put him in a few main boxes. Is he an unapologetically Scottish ADHD puppy with a sprinkle of violent tendencies? Is she a ruthless Mexican mastermind with ambitions that are worth more than any loyalty or morals to her? Or maybe a kind-hearted slightly shy talented tiefling blacksmith with a huge nerdy streak? An awkward Liverpool drummer guy who gets teased for his big nose and constantly gets in some kind of trouble? I bet you recognized at least some of them. This is the wrapper of your character (along with their appearance), this is what will almost always signal people that it's this lil guy. If you can at least keep inside that broad border, then you're already doing not that bad. Some stories don't even require more! Especially if it's comedy: comedy will want you to push into these things (as well as some smaller traits you can exaggerate to an absurd size), use them to paint a caricature or maybe play off of them with something opposite. But then again, maybe don't ask how to write comedy a person who cackles from pee jokes.

Next step is: know your character factually. As in, research their backstory, read their wiki, try to get and memorize as much information from their mother media as possible. Information can come from miscellaneous sources too! For example, I still beat myself up about the fact that in one of my earlier posts about domestic fluffy headcanons on Karlach x Soap I managed to make TWO factual mistakes just because I didn't check out Neil's tiktok first. If I did, I would've never said that Soap prefers showers and tea to baths and coffee. Luckily, I fixed it quickly, but yeah, it does help to see maybe what the actor/director/writer/creator mentioned in interviews or something. Fan pages are good too, but they might get flooded with popular headcanons (Soap's ADHD as an example) or lean too hard into that simplified image from previous step.

THEN is one of my favourite parts: learn your character like an artist would. Note their little mannerisms (Price's little hip movement? Iconic. Price is honestly STUFFED with Nik's cock these little mannerisms, courtesy one bery talented and well-versed in his craft actor. this shit makes characters alive, immediately recognizable, easy to parody. Or - Karlach's nose wrinkle that I love so much. Or - Bradd Pitt's character constant snacking on fastfood in Ocean's Eleven.), their habits, their quirks. If it's a character without visual, from a book, it might be even easier cuz such things would be brought up at least several times by the author. Sorry for a self plug, but my head is too empty for any other thing, but one of my characters in a biopunk story was constantly scratching her head.

This leads up to a thing you can finally write yourself: change them. Not just willy-nilly of course, but once you gather these three supporting beams (simplified wrapper, trivia knowledge and personal mannerisms/quirks), you can change them purposefully. That constant head scratching? Actually used it to show that woman's transition from hostile environment where she was oppressed to somewhere she felt accepted (people were forcing her to stop it and it worsened the habit VS no one chastised her for it and it became tame and unharmful to her). If Price constantly shoulder slaps his found family, what would it mean if he doesn't? Karlach wrinkling her nose out of anger in battle VS because she's laughing her tail off with friends? More obvious would be of course putting the characters against something like their important biography things (anything from the LONG list of abuse and torture Ghost went through, Karlach's past in Zariel army, Nikolai's Soviet upbringing etc). This is how you use already ready to go information to make a character look organic in any situation you put them in, be it bubble bath fluff or sci-fi porn au with snail tentacle aliens or fandom crossover or the most glass-chewing angst ever. Take something recognizable in hat character and either double down on it or change it - depending on whether you wanna show that they're in their element or the opposite.

Another very important thing (some might say it's actually more important than previous) is to build up off what we know. Since there's only so much a piece of media and even the creator themselve can tell us about a character, we should be ready to guess. It's rare that we're given some direct and extensive motivation for any character deeds unless we're in their head constantly (like in Dostoyevskiy's "Crime and Punishment" f.e.), and the less we're given, the more blank space we should try to fill in. If we know character's biography, we should try and draw conclusions on how their past influenced them. Ghost's trauma is the brightest example. OR the ADHD headcanon on Soap: we're given his actions, explosiveness and impulsiveness, his mannerisms and more or less type, and from that we build up that headcanon. It's not stated anywhere, but this is one of possible reasons behind him being portrayed the way he is.

In other ways, use logic, common sense and honestly - personal experience, I think it's one of the easiest things to make characters to feel alive, and alive characters always read as more "staying in character" than maybe very factually correct, but lifeless depictions - that's my lifehack btw (might be controversial). Try to deduct what lies underneath those mannerisms, think what consquencess would have character's past, simply imagine what reactions to a situation you could deem possible - one of them will be suitable for the character, I promise.

And it's already very loosely tied into all this, but since I mentioned personal experience and general believability - go do people watching. Notice their mannerisms, habits, quirks, reactions, experiences. Watch how shit's portrayed in movies, if anything; this will also help you to learn how to convey something deeper through small details (using allegories, metaphors, colour language and all that impressive shit).

Okay that's a whole load of yapping (probably more than you needed), but that's not all! Cuz there's also practice! And the only way to practice any writing is to write. Lemme give you homework :)

Grab those prompt/reactions lists and write away. What's their reaction to seeing a fat ol' spider right there on the toilet seat when they go for a midnight piss? Favourite dessert? Fill out the NSFW alphabet for them (dunno about y'all, but I always end up with some deep psychological portrait instead of masturbating material with those).

A little more advanced excersise in my opinion: try to write down a certain number of headcanons with no given theme. The trick is, you would have to justify them more or less (no, it's not oblgatory for headcanons in general, you can just have them for fun, but for this excersise you should). I say - Soap is SHIT at buying groceries. Why? Because he's easily distracted by flashy wrappers and shit. Why? Because he has ADHD. Why? Because [yada yada all the things I see in him from my own ADHD experience]. Unravel that chain, it doesn't have to be two-step thing, see, here I have sseveral steps between what we have (some of his traits like fidgeting, impatience, impulsiveness etc) and the headcanon (he's shit at buying groceries).

A couple more miscellaneous tips cuz I remembered them too late to build into the whole structure I have here (you can't see it but it's there):

The way characters speak is important, and it's not just accents. How much does this character swear? Do they mix languages? Do they prefer long or short sentences? Do they have a rich vocabulary, do they use slang, do they stutter, take long pauses, switch themes every five seconds? This is one of the "quirks" you should look into a lot.

Their relationships with other characters, the way your character views others and the way others view them are important. It might tell you a lot about how the character behaves with different people and in different situations.

All the other means of characterisation, including even the environment we see them, also will help to understand, dissect and thus adopt the character.

Use music, mate! I struggle with assigning exact songs to characters, I'm more of a "one song - one text" gorilla, but a lot of people have no such problems and you might very much benefit from it. Maybe the actor that plays the character has a playlist somewhere available?

Empathy and acting. These are my actual main instruments, but I put them in the very end, because I have no idea how to explain them or how to practise them. But the ability to put yourself in someone's shoes is everything. I am zero logic 100% emotions in my art, I will feel shit first, try to justify it second. I bet there are actually analyzing and logical processes going on inside my head when I do this, but it happens without my awareness. I just think "what if their partner gets horrible withdrawal after climax?" and then I'm like "well shit Ghost would freeze, and Soap would panic like a puppy, and SoapGaz would use humor, and Price would take extremely patronizing role on, and..." and then I'm like yeah that tracks cuz yada yada, good job Juju.

And my final advice is: you don't have to always stay in character. AND you don't always have to justify going OOC. It's art, it's fun, it's for your own enjoyment. These characters aren't real people, they cannot and never will have full-fledged personalities, that's not how media works, at some point complexity of a character stops making them deep and interesting and makes them bland and overly complicated. If you really wanna write Soap screaming like a girl at the sight of a caterpillar, or make all four of thesse guys into wearing frilly lacy panties, or say that Karlach is addicted to eucalyptus gum, or- I really don't know what to say here cuz all these don't seem too out there for me... OH OH HERE; if you wanna make Ghost bang a punk anarchist (and I do), you can. No one's gonna arrest you for going OOC and I promise, there still will be people who enjoy it. Some people won't care you went out of character, some people won't think you did. Some people will yell at you regardless (I think. luckily, I haven't been yelled at once yet, and I am very very happy about it. but I still take general and vague fandom-yelling posts personally so yeah).

Have fun. Do art. Enjoy yourself. Put love into it. Put strong emotions into it. But mainly love.

I have never encountered a fanfic that would be so horribly OOC that I couldn't read it. But I have seen works with so little love in them that nothing felt genuine and authentic, no matter how accurate it seemed. So yeah, love is all you need ✌🏼❤️🦍

this is the oldest WIP in my novels folder! it's the first book I wrote that feels like something I would write now (although not my first contemporary fantasy)

it stars a lonely pan-ace guy in his thirties who loves books and doesn't remotely understand people, who gets dragged into a magical world right outside his front door when his balloon-artist friend shows up injured one night. it also involved an enchanted circus, a literal fairy garden, sentient garden statues, and another world

shelved after many, many revisions because the plot needs an overhaul (although the characters, writing, and description finally got to where I'd want them to be). my main issue is that it's a portal fantasy inside of sort-of portal fantasy and I'm not sure the timelines work. maybe it needs to be a duology? *shudders in standalone author*

few details to share about this because it's in early stages, but it was inspired by a rummage sale sign. it has nothing to do with rummage sales.

here was the thought process, but idk if you can call it a PROCESS bc all these things happened instantaneously*:

maybe it's like "$5/bag" instead of individually priced items

imagine someone getting REALLY GOOD at packing items up small to fit as much as possible to get the most out of their $5

suddenly: a grumpy, bitter old lesbian named Martha who's good at exactly that and gets a second chance romance even though she's wary of it

*it's probably the ADHD, huh

anyway Martha will not be going to a rummage sale in the story (...probably), but I keep having more and more ideas about what her story looks like, I know a little bit about her LI, I know about her younger neighbor/friend/adopted nibling, I'm getting increasingly excited to write it which is great except that I seriously need to finish NettieWIP first lmao

Lovely night for everyone! I'm Noah, and it's been almost five years since I started making a "book for fun", I never imagined it would be something anyone would read, I was just enjoying making some characters and stories, of course I told my friends what I write, and even though they always compliment me, I never thought they actually liked it, I felt like they were just listening to me so I could finally shut up, so I always had a problem when I wanted to show them characters or ideas. But in December 2023 my older brother and I were talking about architecture and how it impacts the narrative of a Rpg, and I mentioned my book as an example(Especially since the book was based on some RPGs I've already created/played.) so he asked why, and I started explaining about it and... well, basically explaining "why". He quickly showed fascination with that world, and asked me to share with him about things like species, gods, religions, world map, etc... I was very happy, I was always inspired by him to create stories, and seeing that he liked something I created was like receiving compliments from your favorite celebrity! but.... there's a problem.

As I said, I did this world for fun WHEN I had free time, and combined with my ADHD and Autism, it was kind of difficult to focus on the "right task", and it ended up that many of the things I wanted to do remained unfinished, or I simply avoided it, and never started. I always ended up focusing too much on small details that, despite being very interesting and making the world more alive, were almost always useless for building the world as a whole and understand HOW he works. My brother ended up sending me some things that would help me... and while I >tried< to organize myself, I ended up getting the idea to share this story with other people(AKA the internet). And who knows, this story could be used in an RPG or actually end up becoming a book? Instead of some random "fanfic".

Anyway, I think I feel ready to tell some of the story, I'll be happy with constructive criticism, but please don't be rude!

My first language is NOT English, but I thought it would be better to write in English so that more people could understand. I'm not fluent either, so there may be mistakes, and I apologize in advance for that...

Note: The world has its own map, but all countries were inspired by one or more countries in our world, to be easier I will use the name of the countries they were inspired by; Also I'm not religious, but I like learning about religion, I'm currently reading the bible since its my oma religion, and it may have names or stories similar to different mythologies, as well as creatures from other cultures. so I ask that you don't mind "wrong" information as much has been modified for my own pleasure. If you want, you can tell me about the original versions of the inspired myths or any interesting facts about the creatures, I'll be happy to read them!
