The Manresa Castle

There are many haunted places in Washington, but one that remains to be popular among most is the Manresa Castle. This structure serves as a hotel, a restaurant, as well as a lounge so many visit the location annually.

Several witnesses have stated that there seems to be an immense level of paranormal activity in the Manresa Castle. The construction of this structure was completed in the year of 1892. Eventually, the Manresa Castle would gain the reputation of being the largest private estate constructed in the area. The castle was often referred to as the “Eisenbeis Castle” by those that lived in the area. It consisted of thirty individual rooms, walls that were one foot in thickness, tiled fireplaces that were designed by artisans from Germany, and a beautiful slate roof. In the year of 1902, Charles passes away. His widowed wife eventually remarried and left the structure. The caretaker remained to be the only person on the grounds for nearly two decades.

By the time that the year 1925 rolled around, the castle was purchased for a luxury vacation destination for trained nuns that acted as professors in the schools in the Seattle area. This lasted until 1927 when Jesuit based priests purchased the castle. They intended to use it as a college for individuals interested in training in ascetic theology. The following year, many renovations were made to the castle. The name “Manresa Hall” was then given to the building. In the year of 1968, the building was sold and converted into a hotel. It was at that time that the name of “Manresa Castle” was given to the structure.

There are several strange and unusual events that seem to take place in the various haunted places in Washington. This is especially true when it comes to this particular castle. It is rumored that there are at least two spiritual beings that reside in the castle. The first ghost is said to be a Jesuit priest that once resided in the castle. It is said that this individual became distraught in life and went to the tower that is located just above the third floor. While there, he committed suicide by hanging himself in the tower. Individuals that have stayed in the room just below the tower, which is identified as “302” claim to hear noises emitted from the tower, and upon inspection, there is no explanation for the events. Many have claimed that they see a hooded figure wandering around in the building, and it is believed to be the priest. While haunted places in Washington typically do accumulate several rumors, witnesses verify that this is a very real presence in the castle.

The next ghost that is rumored to be present in the Manresa Castle is that of “Kate”. Just to be clear, this is not the same Kate that lived in the structure once it was constructed. This is a woman that stayed at the structure for quite some time at one point, though it is not exactly clear which decade this happened. There is a room that is identified as the “Tower Suite” which is numbered “306”. It is believed that she committed suicide by throwing herself from the window of the room. While there is a lot of speculation on why this occurred, many eye witnesses have claimed to see the full body apparition of this woman throughout the building.

When it comes to haunted places in Washington, most individuals require some sort of historical documentation in order to validate the stories surrounding such structures. However, the stories of the Jesuit Priest and the woman known as “Kate” lack in this area. While it could be that there is, in fact, spirits roaming this haunted castle, there is much doubt surrounding which spirits and even if the strange and unusual activity surrounding the castle is related to the paranormal. The fact remains, though, that there is something going on.

The whole town (although it is small) is filled with such gems. I’m not sure when my next trip down that way will be, but I can’t wait! One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3[a] is an actionvideo game, developed by Omega Force and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and Microsoft Windows. The game is the sequel to One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2, released in Japan on March 26, 2015[1] and subsequently in Western territories on August 25, 2015.[2][3] This is the last One Piece video game released for PlayStation 3. An enhanced port for the Nintendo Switch was released in December 2017.[4] It is the third installment in Pirate Warriors video-game series.

A sequel, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4, is scheduled to be released in 2020.

Gameplay[edit]

The gameplay is similar to the first two installments. A new feature is the Kizuna Rush, which summons another character alongside the player in battle to perform a combination attack. Up to four players can be summoned at once this way, with the finishing attacks becoming more powerful as more characters join.

During battle, one of the NPC support characters (known as Crew in the game) may become a Hero, which causes the Kizuna Gauge of the support character who is a hero to fill up more easily. Maxing out this support character's Kizuna Level and filling their Kizuna Gauge, will unleash their Hero Power. Each character (Playable & Support) have their own Hero Powers which produce different effects, such as causing a barrage (such as Fujitora causing a barrage of meteors, Sakazuki unleashing a barrage magma, or Garp throwing a barrage of Cannonballs) that deals out damage to every enemy on a stage, restoring health of allied units (Chopper & Sanji's hero power), reducing the enemy units attack power by intimidating them (Zoro and Luffy's Hero Power), or inspiring allied units increasing their combat effectiveness and attack strength. However tough enemies can also unleash their Hero Power which causes a stunned Gauge to appear over their head and when the gauge reaches 0 the enemy will be stunned causing their Hero Power to end.

Some characters like Luffy, Usopp, and Sanji can use a special state called an Overdrive which allow them to use their signature power-up states like Gear Second, Sogeking or Diable Jambe respectively when Kizuna Rush is activated. However these Overdrives are not automatically available and require specific Coins to unlock them. Also for most of the Logia users in the game, their Logia state acts as their Overdrive and unlike characters Luffy, Usopp, and Sanji these Overdrives do not need to be unlocked using Coins.

The main story mode, 'Legend Log' mode features special cutscenes called 'Treasure Events' which can be triggered under certain conditions (e.g. using a certain character, completing specific tasks, defeating a specific enemy, etc.).

In addition to the main story mode, there is also a 'Dream Log' mode, in which characters and items are revealed and unlocked as the player progresses through the mode's semi-randomized battles. After the Final Island in Dream Log is completed a second harder version called 'Nightmare Log' is unlocked.

The game features a 'Legend Diary' that functions as an overall progress indicator. Achieving S-Ranks on levels, defeating bosses with Special Kizuna Attacks and fulfilling other miscellaneous objectives gradually fills out the grid and rewards the player with coins that can be used to upgrade each character's stats, to unlock their second special attack, or unlock their overdrives (if they have one). The game also features 'Skill Posters' for each character that allow the player to unlock various equipable skills by fulfilling certain conditions. All playable characters have a 50 Level Limit and in order to level up a character to Level 100 (the game's maximum level) one must obtain a set of Rare Coins (each character has their own set of coins required) to break their Level Limit.

In December 2014, it was announced that One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 would be released in Japan on March 26, 2015. Later that same month it was announced that the game would be coming to western territories at some point in 2015 with a Summer release scheduled for North America. Release dates were later announced to be at the end of August 2015 for both North America and the EU. Chris Gilbert, the senior vice president of sales and marketing at Bandai Namco Games America, said that 'The worldwide popularity of One Piece continues to grow due to the franchise's fantastic action, storytelling, and character development. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3's magical blend of hijinks and humor with Dynasty Warriors' frenetic gameplay style has produced a truly satisfying experience that One Piece fans will surely look forward to enjoying in the summer of 2015″.[5]

Gaming Age said for the PlayStation Vita version, 'It's not often that a game will embrace its own ludicrousness and just be totally and completely ridiculous, but One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 does just that',[10] and described the PlayStation 4 version as 'A sprawling beat 'em up with great replayability and loads of content for both fans and newcomers.'[11] However, the PC port's reviews were more mixed, with a weighted average score of 62 on Metacritic. Hardcore Gamer gave a positive review, describing the game as 'very playable' but criticised it for being 'weak in technical terms', and one negative review came from Russian gaming website Riot Pixels, which criticised the graphics and porting issues, and stated that 'It all boils down to this: One Piece is just not a fun beat-'em-up game'.[12]

Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu gave the game a positive rating of 36 out of 40.[9]IGN awarded the game a score of 6.9 out of 10, saying 'Pirate Warriors 3 combines musou combat with One Piece's spirit intact, but it's bogged down by cutscenes.'[13]Richard Eisenbeis of Kotaku gave the game a mixed review, praising the combat but criticizing the lack of innovation, describing it as 'an incredibly run-of-the-mill Dynasty Warriors.'[14]

As of February 2, 2016, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 have sold 1 million units across different platforms.[15]

The Nintendo Switch version of One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 sold 16,011 copies within its first week on sale in Japan. [16]

 Carlson is a privately held company headquartered in Minnetonka, Minnesota, United States. Its primary subsidiaries are CWT, a travel management company, and Carlson Private Capital Partners, a family office that manages the wealth of the owners. It previously held interests in hotels, including Radisson Hotels, and restaurants, including TGI Fridays. The company is owned by Barbara Carlson Gage and Marilyn Carlson Nelson, daughters of the founder, Curt Carlson.

Enhancing the welfare and interests of the communities being served is one of the responsibilities that every organization has in any given the environment that it establishes itself. A consideration of expanding luxury Regency accommodations and services, in 2006, to Costa Rica is a decision that would put Carlson Companies in a dilemma of solving a social problem that the community was facing. The surrounding area of the resort was facing a disreputable issue of child trafficking and prostitution, and despite the venture being profitable it is a dilemma that the company should address as it prepares to approve the project. This is a position that is supported by the signed Code of Conduct, which aims at protecting vulnerable Children in relation to sexual exploitation being carried out in Travel and Tourism (Linde & Eisenbeis, 2011). 

It is evident that despite the existing challenges, there are associated with the decision of developing the hotel in Costa Rica. They include:  A lucrative business opportunity is presented in building the hotel. It is the opportunity of serving as a role model and positive force in the travel and tourism business. An opportunity of demonstrating the feasibility of the project to others in the industry and the rest of the world upon meeting socially responsible hotel management challenges. Training hotel employees will empower them in monitoring and acting against any form of children exploitation in Carlson hotels. Carlson Company will also experience an increase in revenue with the commencement of the proposed project. 

Different concerns have been raised in relation to the enforcement of the code and the feasibility of suggested project of Carlson’s Regent resort. One of the concern has to do with the full enforcement of the code upon the completion of the resort, a case whereby it is hard for Carson to guarantee the needed children protection within the hotel. The second concern is associated with the implications of the Marriott child sex trafficking case, which happened in a similar environment that Carlson is seeking to establish itself in Costa Rica. A third concern is the possibility of Carlson’s Regent Hotel being associated with child sex trafficking by the international community on the basis that the resort is located in Costa Rica. Finally, there is a concern of the resort failing to meet the obligations established under the Code. This would lead to a situation whereby Carlson is risking public censure, mainly from the monitoring body of the Code (Linde & Eisenbeis, 2011).

In trying to maximize the highlighted benefits of the project and addressing the above concerns, the following are some of the critical recommendations that should be adopted for the success of the project implementation to be realized.  Carlson Company should continue showing commitment towards the implementation of the code as it is not an easy task to undertake. The hotel resort should commit towards the suggested measures, through the determined Code and work-related policies, in creating the environment that is intolerant with the issue of child sex trafficking. This is an effort that will sustain its reputation as an international company that is respected.  Carlson Nelson should carry out a comprehensive analysis of the risks associated with the decision of proceeding with the project. Effective implementation of the stated Code of Conduct within the hotel will reduce any chance of facing litigation because the issue of child molestation in the company’s hotels will be dealt with in a more appropriate way.
