Si tratta di #Eilema #caniola o #Litosia: un #lepidottero #Arctiidae ampiamente diffuso in tutta la nostra Penisola, del tutto innocuo per la salute umana, da non confondere con la processionaria del pino. La sua presenza in città è una costante nel tempo; quello che invece può cambiare nel corso degli anni è la sua consistenza numerica legata all’andamento climatico. Le larve (bruchi), lunghe circa 2 cm, sono ricoperte da una folta peluria, il colore è marrone scuro tendente al nero; si cibano di alghe, muschi e licheni ed è per questo motivo che la loro presenza è facilmente rilevabile nelle case i cui tetti sono ricoperti da “coppi”. Gli adulti sono piccole farfalline lunghe 2-3 cm di colore tendenzialmente biancastro. @mozarteanchaos​ submitted: some good moths i've seen over the past week or so! the first one seemed dehydrated, so i offered it some water and it perked up enough to be safely released. IDs would be appreciated (all of em are from [removed] (please remove location ^^))

Dang you’re right these ARE good moths. They are, in order:

1. A male four-spotted footman (females are all yellow with a few black spots) 2. An ermine moth in the genus Spilosoma (probably a buff ermine) 3-4: A footman moth in the genus Eilema, either a dingy or common footman 5. Black arches moth
