New to me Eighty-Eights jazz SACD of trumpeter Eddie Henderson’s “So What” album. Featuring Henderson, Bob Berg on sax, David Kikoski on piano, Ed Howard on bass, and either Billy Hart or Victor Lewis on drums. Recorded in 2002 by David Baker (which should perk up any jazzfan’s ears), it features tunes by Miles Davis (two of his and another two associated with him), two by Wayne Shorter, two by Thelonious Monk, and one by Paul Robeson. Playing is excellent, very much in the Miles tradition. Sound is well above average, no real surprise coming from Eighty-Eights. Mostly available on the used market, but not overly expensive, this is a highly enjoyable jazz recording. Yeah, I learned that as long as I set a schedule and give myself breaks and set up an actual working station, it is actually possible for me to do a lot of my research at home. 

10. what are you going to do once the quarantine is over?

Try to meet up with as many friends as possible and give them hugs.

I’m currently quarantining with my boyfriend and he has two adorable kitties. The orange boy is Chay-Chay and the tortie girl is Topaz

Today feels like the first day of autumn. I picked some berries from our garden (nice study snack) and went through an old baroque chronica. I am not yet used to the old writing but I will be by the end of the day!

3) what’s your favorite candle scent? I’m always a slut for the Bath and Body Works ones, so there’s... the old Pumpkin Pie, Limoncello, and then generally, vanilla or some other baked goods-related one. 

13) what’s your comfort food? Mac and cheese, and buffalo chicken “cupcakes”- which is just buffalo chicken dip in a biscuit dough cup. 

30)what reminds you of home (doesn’t have to mean house… just things that remind you of the feeling of home)? Snow, basically water as far as the eye can see up to the horizon, the Damien Rice song “Cannonball”, “Delicate” and “Amie” it’s all stuff based on my college town/college itself, because not to be Harry Potter on main, but that place was more of a home to me than my own damn “home.”

Angel: She paints, hunts, garden, plays with frost, makes paint, and fishes 

Charlie: Works on her bike, hikes, runs, hunts, hangs out with Sharky and the gang, boating, singing and helping out around the ranch. 

29. What was childhood like?: 

Angel had a fairly childhood, given that she grew up in a gang. She had a loving family and she misses them. 

Charlie also had a fairly normal childhood. She was raised by her dad and uncles and was good kid. 

39. Your character walks into a cafe. What do they order?

Angel: White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino

Charlie: Coffee black, with five sugars

49. What are some themes tied to your character’s story?

Angel: Letting go of her past and moving forward. She isn’t her father, nor is she part of the gang anymore. She is her own person but still feels tied to the past and feels guilty that she got to live but they died. Her past is something she can’t shake. 

Charlie: Charlie past is also something she want to let go of. She was abused by her foster family, emotionally abused by her ex-girlfriend. And she is slowly trying to forgive her family. Charlie feels as those that she was abandoned by her father and uncles.

A new game with Octavi Navarro’s art is out! If you’re a fan of his wistful artworks under the name @pixelshuh​, you won’t be disappointed with Photographs.

Developed by Luca Redwood a.k.a. EightyEight games (10000000, You Must Build a Boat), Photographs is an intertwined mix of puzzles and storytelling. Octavi is the perfect illustrator for the beautiful, sad narratives, which are complemented with unique gameplay for each of the five stories the game tells. 

The puzzles are very diverse. At one point you’ll be moving characters around …

… and next time you’re solving a sort of a physics bouncing puzzle.

A full playthrough takes around 3 hours, making the experience very potent, even intense due to its melancholic plots, told through short vignettes instead of lengthy dialogues.
