GP Eifel, 11 October 2020
"If I, like here, have more fun on the podium with Daniel than the Mercedes drivers? Yes, but of course that's because I know him pretty well, had fun times with him as my team mate and was truly happy that he was on the podium again. I sprayed the entire bottle on him on purpose. It was pretty cold there, Daniel kept yelling: 'cold, cold, cold' the whole time... That's why I did it. If I miss him? Missing is a big word but we get along well. For our team it is a loss, of course.
How I experience podium ceremonies? If you don't win, it's not interesting. I think I've been on the podium 41 times now, at some point you know what's what and you don't want to be there for half an hour. On the podium, it's not just about that one spot but you also want to be there because you know you have the best car. Of course I can enjoy it when I've won and I'm standing up there but I also know that it hasn't happened a lot this season. So..."

Excerpts from Lando Norris biography - part III
(There aren't too many behind-the-scenes stories anymore — mostly stating things everyone knows, F1 was postponed due to Covid, online racing happened, F1 resumed, Lando did this in this race, Lando had a new teammate, Lando moved to Monaco, etc etc)
Every one was extremely happy for Lando after his first podium at Austria 2020, including Trevor Carlin: "He is doing everything right and the results are coming and I am very proud of him" and "Lando is the nicest person you could ever meet"
Charlotte recalled in Eifel GP 2020, the marketing team's office was right next to the drivers' room and the walls were paper-thin, and —
We were working in the marketing office and we could hear this giggling from the drivers’ room next door… I went into their drivers’ room to speak to them and they were both lying on the massage bed watching YouTube or Instagram videos together. We all started pissing ourselves laughing at first, but I then said to them, “What the fuck are you doing? Why aren’t you in the garage? Everyone is looking for you!” I was like an ogre telling them off all the time. But that was the point where I and some others in the team realised that they actually enjoyed spending time together.
(Oh my Carlando heart 🥰)
Going into the 2021 season, he started to become more strict with certain things, especially diet and training: he stopped eating pizza, started to do more training and running (even though he "still hates it with a massive passion"), etc, to step up his performance. By summer break there's a noticeable change physically from when he first entered F1
Charlotte on Lando at that point:
When Carlos left, I think Lando got a bit nervous again, because he was a bit like, “Well, this guy’s obviously won seven races. He’s a known quantity, and he’s got a really good reputation.” I felt like Lando’s confidence had grown so much over the two years he had with Carlos. When Carlos left and we signed Daniel, Lando was a bit like, “I’ve really got to step up.” That was when I noticed that Mark, his manager, and Jon, his trainer, were building a positive environment by explaining that Norris had all the tools and experience and should not be putting pressure on himself… I used to call him kiddo, in fact I still do, but that was the time when I thought this guy actually could be really good and it will be really interesting to see the comparison. Some thought Dan would just come in and absolutely smash him, but he didn’t. You could certainly see a change in Lando, just the way he carried himself, the way he spoke, his whole demeanour. He was just so much more confident in himself while being self-deprecating.
(I love Charlotte 🥹)
Charlotte on Lando and Daniel's relationship:
At first, they were both definitely trying to suss each other out. We never thought they would not get on, but they just didn’t spend any time together… There was never any animosity between them, it was just they didn’t hang out. Andreas Seidl would have a meeting with both drivers before the race every Sunday. It’s called a “pre-race objectives meeting” and he would basically lay the law down and tell both drivers they are in it together. You drive for the team, no driver is better than the other, no one gets preferential treatment, you do what’s best for the team result, that kind of thing… Both drivers were team players and we needed that because we knew we were struggling and that Ferrari would be back up there again. Both of them then started spending more time together in engineering meetings and worked really hard on it. I can’t fault either of them. Both their work ethics are just unbelievable … but they started to work together quite a lot and from then, their relationship started to change and they started to get on really well.
McLaren keeps the Monaco 2021 trophy (as always), so Lando keeps the presentation box "because it is the coolest thing, a bespoke Louis Vuitton number" (😂)
Charlotte on Lando's relationship with McLaren team members:
He had worked with the boys for a long time by now, but he knew everyone, not just them by name, but their girlfriends, their wives, their kids, their families, their situation. He’d take the team out bowling or for dinner. I think he really understood the value of trying to galvanise people around him and that made him part of the furniture.
After the accident when he got mugged at Wembley Stadium, Charlotte messaged him saying she's so sorry. The whole McLaren team was being very supportive as well. When Lando went to the factory, he was really subdued, "he was worried because he thought he was going to be in trouble because of the watch getting stolen." Ofc Charlotte gave him a big hug
Charlotte described how different the mood was post Monza vs post Russia, especially during the last few laps, "It felt like the slowest time of my entire life, like watching a slow train crash."
[rumour] Ben Hunt says according to rumours, the contract he signed in mid-2021 (just before Monaco GP) was worth £6m a year, the one he signed beginning of 2022 (current one) was £50m for 4 years

it's so insane to me how even in 2020 people were shitting on lance even though out of all the races he finished in that season he only finished out of the points ONCE.
out of 11 races he completed he got points for 10.
in the austrian gp lance lost power and dnf (not his fault ofc)
in the styrian gp lance finished 7th (qualified 13th)
in the hungarian gp lance finished 4th (qualified 3rd)
in the british gp lance finished 9th (qualified 6th)
in the anniversary gp lance finished 6th (same in quali)
in the spanish gp lance finished 4th (qualified 5th)
in the belgian gp lance finished 9th (same in quali)
in the italian gp lance finished 3rd (qualified 8th)
in the tuscan gp lance got a puncture and dnf (he was doing amazing, having gotten from 7th up to 3rd-5th before a nasty crash)
in the russian gp lance spun out (this race was so insane, like 3 incidents in the first 3 corners)
in the eifel gp nico raced for lance (he had covid)
in the portugal gp lance dnf (early contact with lando, basically ruined his race)
in the emilia gp lance finished 13th (qualified 15th, only time he finished out of points)
in the turkish gp lance finished 9th (qualified 1st, very wet race)
in the bahrain gp lance dnf (he flipped, scary crash in a scary race)
in the sakhir gp lance finished 3rd (qualified 10th)
in abu dahbi lance finished 10th (qualified 8th)
to summarize, lance isn't as bad as people say he is ur just mad his dad actually loves him >-<

I have seen a lot of comments recently saying that compared to Esteban, his teammates were able to adapt quicker to their new team. But context is very important when discussing Esteban's 2020 season, so here are a few points I would like to make:
• He spent about a year and a half not racing and barely had any testing with an F1 car during 2019. If I remember correctly, Renault gave Fernando a lot of testing in both the 2018 and 2020 cars in 2020.
• He only had 2 full seasons in F1 prior to joining Renault whilst his teammates in Renault/Alpine had (7) Daniel, (17) Fernando and (5) Pierre. So experience-wise, Esteban had significantly less F1 experience compared to them when they first entered the team.
• 2020 wasn't a typical year (Covid obviously). The season was fast paced to include as much races as possible but also had to work within health and travel restrictions. The season was filled with double and triple headers where it became difficult to have time to assess and analyse data and adapt after race weekends, especially for someone new to a team, a new car and even a new engine manufacturer. Note that even the Imola race took place over a two-day race weekend, with one 90 min FP session. I don't remember if there were other race weekends like this.
• When Daniel had both his podiums, Esteban had technical DNFs during those races. During the year, he had a total of 4 mechanical DNFs while Daniel had 1. Thus, making the points difference between them more than it should be. Note that during these races, Esteban usually qualified 1 or 2 places behind Daniel bar the Styrian GP and Imola GP.
Final Points Tally: Daniel - 119; Esteban - 62
Points Tally on Races where both finished: Daniel - 73; Esteban - 58
For those curious, here are the qualifying grid positions during the 4 races Esteban DNF'd:
Styrian GP - DR: P9; EO: P5
Tuscan GP - DR: P8; EO: P10
Eifel GP - DR: P6; EO: P7
Imola GP - DR: P5; EO: P12 (Note: the Alfa Romeos who qualified P18 and P20 finished the race P9 and P10; Checo, who qualified P11 finished the race P6)
#it bothers me everytime I see someone mention how “terrible” Esteban was in 2020#Yes it wasn't an ideal season far from it but it wasn't such a terrible season as most people make it out to be...#I don't think I can classify this as a rant haha more like clearing misinformation (maybe)#anyway if anyone notices any mistakes here just let me know 🙂#esteban ocon#eo31

Will Las Vegas be really that much colder than other desert tracks like Bahrain?
Uhh yes.
So Bahrain’s average low temperatures in February/March are 15C-18C and for this years GP the air temperature was around 23C
Last year in the middle of November the low temperatures in Las Vegas were around 7C-8C in the evening and seeing as the day temperatures are around 12C-15C the track isn’t going to retain much heat
The coldest GP was the 1978 Canadian GP which was 5C, but more recently there was the Eifel GP (at the Nürburgring) and the Turkish GP both in 2020 which were 10C and 12C respectively

Can I just....for a second. I'm rewatching the 2020 Eifel GP. Where Renault Danny sexily put that Renault on the podium after god knows how many years.
That's not why I'm here... I'm here because when Daniel got out of his car (btw, that race suit fit him so nicely. Feels like how the RB suit fit him in Nashville)... sorry, I digress. When Daniel alighted his tractor and frolicked over to his mechanics who were at the end of the row......the RB mechanics at the start of the row REACHED OUT TO CONGRATULATE OUR BOY. Because 'they still call you Daniel' and he's still apart of the family
Sorry idk where I'm going with this, I just needed to come here and have big emotions and add it to the narrative and web weaving of Daniel going back home to RB because they never wanted him to leave.
And of course we had Maxiel interactions because of the joint podium.
#please don't mind me. I'm in my feels#I love this man#daniel ricciardo our beloved#waffling about daniel is a pasttime

Mick Schumacher, Callum Ilott, Robert Shwartzman Test Ferraris
Trio of Ferrari juniors and F1 2021 hopefuls in action in 2018 Ferrari car at the team's Fiorano test track
Wednesday 30 September 2020 19:01, UK
Mick Schumacher, Callum Ilott and Robert Shwartzman began preparations for their F1 practice debuts by testing two-year-old Ferrari cars at Fiorano. Schumacher, the son of seven-time champion and Ferrari legend Michael, and Britain's Ilott are the top two in this year's F2 championship and are making their FP1 debuts with Alfa Romeo and Haas, respectively, at next week's Eifel GP at the Nurburgring. "It's given me another opportunity to get another step closer to how the car behaves," said Schumacher of his second experience driving an F1 car from the hybrid engine era. "Now I have a very clear view of how I have to drive the car and I already now have a step closer to how it will be in Nurburgring. It does give me more confidence to arrive to the Nurburgring and know what I have to do."
