Author: Meilan Solly (Associate Editor, History) Publication: Smithsonian Magazine Time-stamp: May 3, 2024 Word count: 1048 Estimated reading time: between 3 to 6 mins.
Extract (385 words - 1 to 2 mins):
[An] exhibition in Washington, D.C. is recreating Tutankhamun’s tomb [...]. [The exhibition features] more than 1,000 reproductions crafted by Egyptian artisans, [and is titled] “Tutankhamun: His Tomb and His Treasures” [...]. [It shows] a clear argument for the value of replicas as educational tools, particularly when the originals are largely inaccessible to the public. The Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo [the] artifacts found in the tomb, but its opening [...] has [...] been delayed.
Melinda Hartwig, an Egyptologist [...] and a special adviser to the exhibition, says the show allows visitors to “follow in Carter’s footsteps” by drawing directly on the archaeologist’s excavation notes and photographs. Early on, the exhibition transports visitors into recreations of the pharaoh’s burial chamber, antechamber and treasury, all presented as they [were originally discovered]. Later sections focus on the artifacts themselves, grouping replicas of Tutankhamun’s shabtis (funerary figurines), nested coffins, canopic jars and more.

Tutanchamun Ausstellung - YouTube (3:42)
According to Hartwig, Egyptian craftspeople, lapidaries and sculptors spent around four years recreating the artifacts found in the pharaoh’s tomb [...]. [They cast the objects in plaster, [...] covered the models in resin, [then] used alloys and glass appliques to add color and depth.
[The] artisans had access to extensive primary source material, as well as 3D scans of the original artifacts. [...]
Reviewing a Czech staging of the exhibition in January 2009, Egyptologist Jaromír Málek praised the artisans’ attention to detail as “astounding,” writing that “there are few things with which one would seriously like to quarrel.”
[...] Málek wrote [...], “The Egyptians point out that these [original objects] are antiquities of their own past, and … it is only appropriate that they remain on display in Cairo where they can be seen by ordinary Egyptian visitors, such as schoolchildren.”
[...] As Hartwig explains, [the exhibition] blends entertainment and education; the exhibition’s wall panels are changed with each iteration of the show, reflecting updated understandings of the pharaoh’s life and legacy. For instance, recent research suggests he was a warrior king, rather than a sickly, infirm ruler. Initially a skeptic [...], Málek admitted, “somewhat reluctantly,” that he had “become a convert,” adding, “This exhibition can do things which no other, perhaps with the exception of future virtual reality shows, is able to.”
Hartwig, for her part, says she loves the exhibition “because you experience the objects. They’re not behind glass. They’re not separated from context.” [...]

Do you have a minute? [ReaderxStevenGrant]
Steven is a guest professor at your university for this semester, giving a lecture on Egyptology. The last class of the semester stresses him out so much that Marc needs to take over. No problem – he did this before. Then, however, he’s the one to finally realize that you were flirting with Steven the entire semester.
Tumblr media
Inside – Marc & Steven
“Please don’t mess this up!”
“I’m not!”
“Seriously, I need this to go well.”
“Yes, you told me.”
“It’s just-“
“Do you want to do it?”
“I can’t!”
“Then be quiet.”
“Alright.”
“It will be fine. I practiced my British Accent, mate.”
“Oh, for God’s sake.”
“I need to hang up now to start the lecture.”
“Hang up? What? Oh- we’re already here.”
Whispering: “Who’s that hot girl staring at me?”
“That’s- Hey! She’s looking at me! And don’t say that. She’s very sweet and smart and nice to talk to.”
Outside – Marc & You
Steven’s eyes look different today, you think to yourself as you smile at him. He gives you a nod as he says something else into the phone before hanging up.
You wonder who that was. Honestly, the way Steven talked to you before made you think that he doesn’t, well, talk to other people. And somehow, for some reason, he managed to make that sexy.
You’re very aware that today is the last chance you get to ask him out. Yeah, sure, you like had coffee and he even invited you to have lunch with him one time; however, you don’t think he caught on to the fact that you’re into him – bad. Which, again, bless him, is sweet and somehow sexy, but you also really want to…
“Morning everyone!” He speaks up.
You furrow your eyebrows. He sounds different. You cannot really pinpoint it, but something is off. You look around: the lecture hall is busy, but no one else seems to notice. The conversations subside quickly, and people get their pens out. So do you.
Maybe you’re just nervous. That’s probably it. You are overanalyzing his every move, to find any indicator that he likes you or that he’s just being polite or- oh my god, shut up. Focus on the lecture and worry about everything else later.
You do manage to keep your eyes on the screen and take notes. Then, though, half an hour in, Steven keeps looking at you. It’s as if his own ability to focus on the lecture shrank.
In your peripheral, you can make out that he’s facing your direction and his gaze burns your cheek. You hold on to the pen in your hand tighter, forcing yourself to look at your notes. It almost hurts your eyes how badly you try to control them.
It’s rather embarrassing how extreme you react to him simply looking in your direction. You have to blink rapidly to be able to refocus and at least hear every second word.
You’re relieved when his voice finally is louder than the white noise that’s caused by your heartbeat again. That only lasts about three seconds, though. Because then you realize that he is walking in your direction.
It’s just impossible to not look up now.
You raise you head to find him almost in front of you.
You’re sitting in the second row, and he is looking up towards the last rows as he’s talking, but it still feels like he’s cornering you.
You gulp and give up on taking notes. You put your pen down and blindly reach for your water bottle to take a sip in hopes that it will calm you down.
It almost worked, but then he makes eye-contact. You immediately hold your breath, and your body feels like it’s sinking through the chair.
Steven’s eyes shimmer and the corners of his mouth turn upwards while holding your nervous gaze. You never reacted like that to him. Somehow, he suddenly is intimidating. Then he smirks at you. It’s inconspicuous and probably invisible to anyone who hadn’t paid attention, but it’s very visible to you. You press your lips together.
After another moment, he turns around and walks back to the screen to point at something. The entire silent exchange lasted maybe ten seconds, max. He did not interrupt his lecture once while it happened. That wasn’t necessary to leave you flustered.
You run your fingers through your hair and close your eyes, listening to his goddamn attractive voice. The entire semester he did not do anything like this during a lecture. He did smile at you whenever he came in and find you in your usual seat. He asked you about the essay you handed in, talking to you about it over a coffee. He wiped his hands off on his pants, drying his sweaty palms. Never, never did he so openly flirt with you.
Oohh, you breathe out through your mouth. It’s the last class – and he is obviously aware of that as well. Is he finally shooting his shot with you? Shit, is that what’s happening?
You’re not willing for him to do that, are you? It’s not you getting your hopes up unreasonably, is it?
Inside – Marc & Steven
“See, she like you.” Marc whispers while turning his back to the classroom so that the students cannot see his mouth moving.
“I think-“
“Shush. You know I’m right.”
“But what if-“
“Do you want to go out with her?”
“Oh my god yes.”
“Then I will ask her.”
“No, don’t! I-“
“As I was saying,” Marc turns back to the class.
Outside – Marc & You
The rest of the lecture flies by, you constantly bouncing your leg under the table.
You equally dread and cannot wait for what’s going to happen when Steven ends the class.
“Any last questions for me?” He asks.
“Yes, Professor Grant! Could you…”
You don’t listen to the student’s question. You’re way too amused by the fact that they call him Professor Grant. To you, he was Steven from the first time he spoke with you privately – he insisted. He does not request that from the other students. You smile.
Suddenly, everyone begins to clap. You enthusiastically join, catching on to the fact that the class is over.
Then Steven’s face changes for a moment. His expression softens, his eyes become a bit wet, and his posture shifts in a way that he looks smaller than before. He looks intimidated but also proud. It’s very sweet and the demeanor you are used to see.
When everyone starts to get up, he blinks several times and straightens his back, before looking at you. Other than the rest of the class, you show no intend to leave. It’s not entirely by choice. It’s more like you can’t really move, too entranced by the eye-contact. He looks excited.
You inhale deeply and finally get at least your arms to work and pack up your stuff.
Steven then quickly walks back to his desk and gets his stuff as well. He puts on his light-blue cotton jacket and swings his bag over his shoulder.
Slower than necessary, you stand up and zip your backpack.
The lecture hall is almost empty by now and there is not much time left until it becomes very obvious that you are lingering around on purpose.
But Steven is still at the front, turning off the projector and whatnot.
You start to feel like a fool, and disappointed. It’s fine. You shouldn’t have read so much into his behavior.
Legs wobbly, you turn around and start to walk up the stairs to the exit. Your heart is beating quickly and with every step you wonder if you should simply ask him. Maybe he’s too shy? Since he only was a guest Professor, it’s not inappropriate to go out after the class ended. You lightly shake your head, trying to get over the heartache before it can even fill your chest.
Then he calls your name. You take another step before you register that he actually is talking to you and that it wasn’t in your head. Swallowing hard, you turn around.
“Do you have a minute?” Steven asks while following you up the stairs.
Oh, you have so many minutes for him.
“Sure.” You smile, expecting for him to maybe ask you what you thought of the lecture or-
“Would you like to go out for a drink with me?”
Your next heartbeat is so violent that you almost put your hand on your chest to stop your heart from jumping out of it.
“Very much, yes.” You reply.
His smile brightens: “Are you free tonight?”
“Yes!” You sound a little too relieved.
While you let your eyes dart over his gorgeous face, he gets out a notebook and a pen.
He opens a random page and holds it out to you: “Give me your address and number?”
Hands shaky, you take it from him. He’s actually taking you out, like, picking you up and everything. Jesus Christ – bless men over forty.
Trying your best to write legible, you scribble down your information.
“Does seven work for you?” He asks when you hand the notebook back.
You have no idea if it does. At this point, you don’t even know what day of the week it is. Of course, you agree, nevertheless.
Inside – Marc & Steven
“I’ll leave you to it.”
Steven takes a deep breath: “I got this.”
“Just ring the doorbell.”
“You won’t be, like, watching?”
“Absolutely not.”
“Okay…”
“Ring the doorbell already!”
Outside – Steven & You
You want to look good, but you definitely don’t want to overdress. You don’t know how casual this will be.
When the doorbell rings at two minutes past seven, and you immediately open, you’re very glad that you didn’t put on heels. Steven is wearing his signature dress shirt and jacket – the shirt, however, looks very straightened. And he definitely showered and did something with his hair.
“Hey.” You breathe out and only now notice the flowers he brought. No one ever did that for you – you have no idea how to react. Giving you a slightly insecure smile, he holds them out to you. When you take them, your fingers touch and you almost let the flowers fall to the floor.
“Thank you so much.” You tell him, eyes darting to his lips and back to his eyes.
“I’ll put them in water and then we can go.” You quickly add and hurry to the kitchen.
Your hands tremble as you fill up a glass with water. He brought you flowers!
Is it embarrassing or weird that that makes you wet?
Lord, chill out.
Steven is waiting outside your apartment for you. Checking for your keys, you take your handbag and let the door fall shut behind you.
“Where are we going?” You ask.
“There’s a bar I like nearby, is that okay?” He needs to clear his throat halfway through the sentence, making you realize that he didn’t say anything until now.
You nod.
“Or would you like to eat something first?” He backpaddles even though you already agreed.
“Bar sounds good.” You assure him. A drink will probably be good for both of you.
Miraculously, you’re able to make comfortable conversation on the way. It’s easy to talk about something that has to do with factual information. You really like when he gets passionate and shares his knowledge. For some reason, he seems surprised that you enjoy listening to him – even though you literally took a course in his field.
“Here we are.” Steven opens the door to the bar for you after a ten-minute walk.
“Thanks.” You really like this sweet, polite thing he has going on. You noticed it, of course, before, but never to this extend. After all, this is your first official date.
This is a date, you remember. You were so caught up in listening to him, that you forgot. You have to avoid eye-contact while choosing a table to have time to collect your thoughts.
Just enjoy it. This is what you so desperately hoped for. You better get your game on.
As soon as you have a drink in your hand, it’s like you’re able to reach the switch inside you that makes you flirtatious instead of awkward.
Steven shifts the focus of the conversation to you, visibly nervous but also really interested. His eyes are attentive and the way he asks questions tells you that he genuinely cares.
You do too, but you now and then lose your train of thought, distracted by your longing to kiss him.
What you dare to do, as you turn to the bar to wave over the waiter, is to put your hand on his to let him know that you want to order more. Out of the corner of your eye, you can see his lips part. When the waiter approaches your table, you gently take your hand away to open the menu and point at the drink you’d like. Steven says: “I’ll take the same.” Without knowing what you ordered.
“Coming right up.” The waiter says and leaves.
You raise your gaze from the table to look back at Steven’s face. His cheeks are lightly flushed. It could also be the heat from the candle on the table, but you don’t think that’s the case.
His hand still lies where you left it: on the middle of the table.
Propping your head up on one hand, you reach across with the other and lightly touch his fingers. His eyes light up and he intertwines them with yours.
This officially makes this more than just a date with your professor (as if that weren’t already exciting enough). This is the both of you admitting that you want each other.
So, after gulping the next drink down, Steven pays, and you willingly get up as well. He only lets go of your hand for a moment, so that you can put on your coat, and then takes it again to lead you outside.
You walk a few meters away from the entrance of the bar.
Since it’s during the week, only a few cars are driving by, leaving you alone with the quiet humming of the street lantern.
“I wanted to do this all semester long.” He tells you.
You turn your head, surprised by his candid statement.
“Take me out?” You smile.
“No.” He tugs on your arm, making you step closer. “Kiss you.” Steven murmurs and pushes his hand into your hair to pull you flush against him. Your lips meet and you sigh, throwing your arms around him.
He kisses you softly, cradling your face. Despite the chilly air, it makes you feel hot.
“Me too.” You whisper and tilt your head to kiss him deeper.
When you break the kiss to take a breath, you ask: “Would you like to come back to my place?”
He leans back, hand still on the side of your face: “Yes, but…” His voice trails off.
You caress the back of his neck and wait for him to finish the sentence, your eyes soft.
“I want this to be more than a one-night stand.”
Your heart flutters and you press another kiss to his lips before telling him: “It will be.”

Stede Bonnet is the Archaeology professor at a small university where he's preparing his students for a study abroad opportunity in Cairo, Egypt next semester.
Edward Teach is his best and brightest student, not that Stede would ever pick favorites! (Except he absolutely would and has.)
When they finally get to Egypt, things heat up in more ways than one.

still a wip, will be explicit (eventually, slow burn baybeee)
would love to hear your thoughts <3

Amelia Edwards
Tumblr media
If you ask me about my favorite celebrity, I would probably say Scarlett Johansson. But if you ask me on a deeper level, I would say it’s Amelia Edwards—a novelist, journalist, and, most importantly, the Godmother of Egyptology. She’s famous for her travelogue A Thousand Miles Up the Nile, published in 1877.

seeking advice
Hello my dear academics - and other various nerds.
I am looking for advice for my current PhD application; I am finalizing my Statement of Purpose and I have space in it to talk about my autism diagnosis and Ianto being a service dog.
However, the dilemma, would it be used against my application or not/ should I wait to hear if I get in before telling them I need accommodations like for a job or should I use it in the essay. This application does not have any sort of 'my struggle' essay to write, just a writing sample - my MA thesis - and the SOP.
I already said in it that I wrote and implemented the Egypt Centre's first autistic accessibility program.... which is literally how I found out I'm autistic. So it does fit in, and I have the space.
But it is a disorder that is discriminated against.
going to tag a few folk but I want as many opinions as you have for me so please comment/re-blog whatever. I have also decided that 1 like = 1 vote to disclose so feel free to just like if you don't feel chatty.
@13faeinapenguinsuit @saintartemis @queenanne1532 @chaotic-archaeologist @autie-j @micewithknives @bundibird @rudjedet @sisterofiris
as usual; the above is a non-exhaustive list of the people on here whose opinion I admire and trust. there are always people I have left off because remembering all y'all's handles is impossible.

“Don’t worry about me, for I’m healthy and alive.”
Honestly, mood.
Note to self: to read later
Fun fact about Ancient Egypt: In letters sent to relatives, superiors, friends, and co-workers, it was very commonplace to inquire about how they were
And I do mean inquire:

Can I request The Moonkinght boys with a Tall and Stoic Male History Teacher ?
Marc Spector, Steven Grant, and Jake Lockley x male reader
Headcanons
Tumblr media
I’ve missed the moonboys, they still have a special place in my heart even though I’ve been mainly into DC lately.
You most likely met Steven first out of all of them, having to take your students on trips to the museum he works at. And at the end of the trips, they’re allowed to go into the giftshop, where you meet the cute clerk.
In the beginning its just small talk, until you learn how much he truly knows about Egyptology and the likes. And even though you rarely show any outward emotions, you listen closely when Steven infodumps about the subject.
I could imagine you visiting the museum quite regularly, with students of all ages, or to give speeches and the like. But you also start going on your own just to look at the things there and to talk to Steven.
If this takes place after the series then March and Jake are of course cautious about you, since your tall and show very few emotions, which means they cant really read you. Of course, Steven always defends you, since he’s so happy to finally have someone to talk too.
You end up able to pull some strings and get Steven to help guide your students around and talking about Egypt. Steven almost doesn’t believe you since its too good to be true, since all he’s ever wanted was to be a guide.
After his first time guiding your students around, you ask him out for coffee. Steven gladly accepts not thinking too deeply about it, until Marc tells him you asked him on a date.
The first date you guys go on is a little awkward but in an endearing way, since Steven has never been the one people focus on. It has always been Marc or Jake, and since he really likes you, he wants this date to go well.
He even gets you to crack a small laugh, which sends not only Stevens, but Marcs and Jakes hearts stuttering. Over time the other two have developed feelings for you as well, even though they’ve never interacted with you on their own.
When you guys start officially dating Steven is on a high for weeks after that, texting you about his day and planning dates for the two of you, with the help of Marc and Jake of course.
The first time you meet Marc or Jake is most likely an accident, or Steven has had a horrible day. Maybe Steven is so stressed one small mistake like breaking one of your cups has him retreating back into himself, pushing Marc to the front.
Marc isn’t used to interacting with you, and he tries to stay in the role of Steven since they don’t want to scare you off, but you’re an educated man so you notice the changes. After a while you ask him what’s truly wrong, looking at him with visible concern.
It takes some debating between Jake and Marc, but Marc ends up telling you the truth since its for the best. You’d figure it out one way or another, so its better they tell you when it’s up to them.
They expect you to react negatively, so they’re all surprised when you just accept it and thank them for telling you. They all get a little flustered when you ask them if there are boundaries or limits, or triggers you need to look out for. They’ve never really had someone care enough to want to make them comfortable like that.
After that your relationship with Steven continues on like before, but you also hang out with Jake and Marc every now and then. It takes even longer for Marc and Jakes feelings to come to the front, and its most likely with the help of Steven.
Like Steven kissing you and then pushing Jake to the front, or when your cuddling in bed he shoves Marc to the front. They’re both very embarrassed about having fallen for you two, so when they finally confess you just lean down and kiss them and welcome them with open arms.
You’re the smart one in the relationship, and they all abuse your height to reach things. Sure, they aren’t a short man, not at all, but why should they step on their tippytoes to reach something when your right there.
They also all enjoy pulling you down by your shirt when they want to kiss you, or using your tie to pull you down when they want to tease you.
All three of them also thrive off of making you smile since you are a very stoic person, so when they get you to smile just a little they can live off of that high for a while. They also try to find ways to make you laugh, even if its just a huff out the nose, it still counts.

Cat Sebastian really is a much easier read than Egyptian Middle Kingdom literary texts
The nice thing about a literature degree is that I can just finish reading a book and then call that exam preparation.
However, unfortunately, I'm enrolled in a double-major...

I gotta say one of the most fun things about being both an egyptology student and a yugioh fan is that any time people try and use hieroglyphs in their fanworks (or even official media. looking at you duel links, i see your shitty hieroglyph background) i get to try and decipher what fucked up interpretation of the single consonant hieroglyphs people have decided to use. Because it’s always the single consonant hieroglyphs. And they always include 𓃭 as L

What fandoms do you write for?
Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus, Black Butler, Kane Chronicles
Can I read your stuff if I'm not 18+?
I mean, I can't stop you. Just don't, like, tell me. Even though most of the fandoms I write for are usually family-friendly, I focus on topics such as trauma, mental health, suicide, power struggles and dark relationships. While I do believe that teenagers should be allowed to explore a lot of these topics, please do not take all of these fics as a way to cope. If you find yourself recognizing symptoms or affects these characters have from mental health, please reach out to someone.
How do you get your writing so realistic?
Trauma. 9/10 times whatever Percy is going through draws inspiration, sometimes heavy inspiration, from my own experiences and thoughts. Please do not try this at home.
Do you accept requests?
No. As stated above, these fics are born as a way for me to vent. They come to me. Therefore, I probably couldn't do your request justice, or do it in a way satisfactory to me.
Can I translate your fic?
Not at this moment.
When do you update?
Whenever I want. I am in college, working on a conference presentation, and volunteering on historical projects. I write when I have the chance.
Your fics are too dark. Can you tone them down?
There are plenty of non-dark PJO fics out there. I aim to present the raw, ugly truth of what Percy, and many other demigods, have gone through and the lasting effects of trauma in a way Rick cannot delve into given his rating. It doesn't have to be palatable for everyone. There are warnings slapped on the fic for a reason.
Do you have a tip jar?
No. Fanfiction was meant to be free, and should remain free. If you want to show your appreciation, leave a comment or ask!

THE WRITER
I am currently a uni student about to graduate and then pursue her master's. I'm studying archaeology and Egyptology, and have specific interests in the mortuary (death/afterlife) practices of the Ancient Egyptians, as well as the history of the discipline itself and the dehumanization of cultures in the process of being studied by archaeology.
I started writing for school. My mom homeschooled me and made me read and write for 30 minutes a day. I honestly hated it at first lol but then I slowly fell in love with creating my own worlds and stories. My first completed fanfiction was about an OC daughter of Marvel Loki.
I absolutely love dissecting characters in my writing. It's so fun to pick them apart and see what makes them tick, what their flaws are, what their greatest fears and loves are. Percy Jackson is honestly the easiest person to write for in this sense, because I saw so much of myself in him.
Please come yell at me about him, I would love to talk about him!
Some random facts about me: I was adopted, I lowkey have an obsession with the Undertaker from Black Butler, I love the dark and macabre, and I'm currently studying abroad (can you guess where?). I'm absolutely a cat person, and if there is a cat around, I will be petting it for the next hour. I have been late to class because of this.

Down Bad For Teacher - Professor!Steven Grant x F!Reader
Tumblr media
Warnings: none really, just good old fashion fluff and smut! First smut I've written in a while.
A/n: this goes out to my wonderful friend @romanarose who gave me the idea! Also the discovery I used is an actual discovery that happened last month!
*****
You were currently taking notes, quickly writing as you listened to Dr. Grant explain his archeological adventures in Egypt. When the university had announced they would be hosting an Egyptology seminar led by your hero Dr. Steven Grant, you quickly jumped at the chance to hear him speak.
"As you can see in these slides," Steven pauses, using his laser pointer to guide everyone's attention to the screen, "we discovered an ancient royal tomb. It dates back to the 18th dynasty. Could anyone tell me when the 18th dynasty had accused?"
You stop your writing and quickly raise your hand, you raise your head and scan the room to see if anyone else has as well. Thanking the almighty God's above for allowing you to be the only one with your hand in the air.
"Yes, you in the front row with the puffball pen." He calls upon you with the most beautiful smile.
"Yes, the 18th century occurred between 1550 BC and 1292 BC" you say while standing up and straightening out your outfit.
He gives you another award winning smile, "that is correct! Very good!" He thinks he's subtle with the way he is checking you out but you notice and it causes you to blush.
The rest of the lecture goes on without a hitch. More students were speaking up and answering. As the seminar continued anytime you looked up, yours and Dr Grant's eyes would meet. Each time would make you blush.
Once the seminar was finished you hung back and waited until everyone left before approaching him.
"Hi, Dr. Grant, I don't mean to bother you but you've been my hero since I started uni," you say trying not to stutter or make a fool of yourself.
"Why thank you darling," he stops shuffling his papers, "and who might you be?"
"My name is Y/n L/n, I'm a fourth year archeology student with a focus in Egyptology'' you say very proudly. You've worked hard to get where you are at. Many nights spent alone working on papers, while your friends went out to party.
"If you wouldn't mind, would you like to grab a coffee with me? We could go more in depth in the information you presented today? I'm sorry if I'm being really straight forward, I uh don't usually do this."
"I'd love to," he smiles.
****
You never thought you'd end up here after your little friendly coffee outing with the cute Dr. but here you are in bed as he continues to thrust his cock deep inside you, you can feel the tip of his cock kiss your cervix.
"F-fuck Steven, right there. Oh fuck!" You moan out.
"Oh bloody hell, your pussy was made for me love," he says before spitting on his fingers and rubbing slow but tight circles onto your clit, causing you to squeal with delight.
You can feel the coil in your stomach tighten once more.
This would be the third orgasm he'd pulled out of you. Once from his eating your cunt as if it was his last meal and the other when you had made it to the couch.
You had just finished your coffee date, stveen had mentioned he had some books that went into more detail about the archeological digs he had been a part of. You had looked at all the books scattered around the rather large flat in awe. You were so lost in thought you didn't register that you said "wow i could just kiss you" when you noticed his blush and how his lips parted slightly. Within seconds his lips were on yours and he'd led you to the couch where he had you ride his thigh the wet stain on his trousers only for you to end up here on your way to your third orgasm of the night.
Steven moves his hand from your clit up your stomach and to your breast, tweaking your right nipple, causing you to arch your back in pleasure. You grip his forearm that's placed near your head.
"Fuck, Fuck, Fuck! Steven I feel you so deep, oh Gods I'm gonna come," your hand tightly grips the sheets tightly as you feel the coil snap.
"Fuck love," his thrusts stop as you feel his cock twitch inside. Pleasure fills your senses as you scream out Steven's name as you feel him paint your insides with thick white ropes.
After you both catch your breaths, he gently pulls out of you causing you to hiss from the emptiness.
He gently places a kiss against your lips and walks to the bathroom. You lean your head back against his pillows and and relax into his scent, he smells like balsam, vanilla and musk. A scent you could get lost into forever.
When Steven returns with a warm wet rag, you lean up against his headboard as he begins to gently clean you up, being gentle with how sensitive you currently are, when he finishes he tosses the soiled rage into the hamper.
He leans forward and places one hand against your cheek and kisses you once more.
"I don't usually go around sleeping with students but you are something different, a good something else." he says smiling at you as a curl falls on his forehead.
"Well it's a good thing I'm not one of your students," you giggle, "I really enjoyed tonight and I hope this doesn't have to be a one time ordeal," biting your lip.
"It doesn't have to be if you don't want it to be love," he says, moving a piece of your hair behind your ear.
"Good because I don't want it to be," you reply, pulling him back in for another kiss.

The Origins of The Mummy
Tumblr media
Stories about mummies coming to life predate the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922, and the idea of resurrected mummies has been present in literature and folklore long before Universal's The Mummy (1932) hit the big screen.
Origins of Mummy Stories: The ancient Egyptians believed in the afterlife and practiced mummification to preserve the bodies of the deceased for their journey to the next world. However, ancient Egyptian texts themselves do not contain tales of mummies coming back to life in the way modern horror stories depict. The concept of mummies as reanimated corpses began to take shape much later, influenced by 19th-century fascination with Egypt and the supernatural.
Pre-Discovery Mummy Stories in Literature: The idea of cursed or reanimated mummies in fiction dates back to the early 19th century, long before the discovery of King Tut's tomb.
"The Mummy!: Or a Tale of the Twenty-Second Century" by Jane C. Loudon (1827) – This is one of the earliest works of fiction involving a mummy. In this futuristic novel, a mummy named Cheops is revived in the 22nd century, although the story is more science fiction than horror.
"The Mummy's Foot" by Théophile Gautier (1840) – A French short story in which a man buys an ancient Egyptian mummy’s foot as a curiosity. The foot belongs to a resurrected princess, who reclaims it in a dream-like narrative.
"Some Words with a Mummy" by Edgar Allan Poe (1845) – In this satirical short story, an ancient mummy is revived and discusses the superiority of ancient Egyptian civilization compared to modern society.
"The Jewel of Seven Stars" by Bram Stoker (1903) – This Gothic novel by the author of Dracula tells the story of an archaeologist who discovers the mummy of an Egyptian queen, and through rituals, attempts to revive her. The novel is one of the earliest works that explores the supernatural resurrection of a mummy in a horror context, complete with curses and rituals.
"Lot No. 249" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1892) – A short story in which a university student uses an ancient Egyptian scroll to reanimate a mummy for sinister purposes. This story is often cited as a key influence on the modern mummy horror genre and popularized the concept of a vengeful, reanimated mummy.
Influence of King Tutankhamun's Tomb:
The discovery of King Tut's tomb in 1922 by Howard Carter, and the subsequent fascination with Egyptology, reignited public interest in mummies. The media also sensationalized the "Curse of the Pharaohs," after several people involved with the excavation died under mysterious circumstances, although these were largely coincidental. This renewed interest in Egyptology and ancient curses provided a fertile backdrop for the creation of The Mummy films in Hollywood.
Early Mummy Films:
Universal’s The Mummy was not the first film to feature mummies, but it was the most influential. Here are some earlier examples of mummy-themed films:
"The Mummy" (1911) – A silent short film, likely one of the first films to feature a mummy as part of the plot. It was a comedic take on a mummy coming to life.
"Cléopâtre" (1899) – Directed by French filmmaker Georges Méliès, this early silent film featured an Egyptian mummy being revived. Méliès is known for his pioneering use of special effects, and this film explored magical themes, including the reanimation of a mummy.
"The Eyes of the Mummy Ma" (1918) – This German silent film starred Pola Negri and featured a cursed Egyptian tomb, though the mummy itself does not play a central role in the way it would in later films.
Universal’s The Mummy (1932):
Universal’s The Mummy, starring Boris Karloff as Imhotep, is not the first work to depict mummies coming to life, but it is the first full-length feature film centered on a resurrected mummy as a horror figure. Directed by Karl Freund, The Mummy follows the story of an ancient Egyptian priest, Imhotep, who is resurrected after an archaeological expedition and searches for his lost love, whom he believes has been reincarnated.
Universal's The Mummy set the template for later mummy films, unlike some of the earlier mummy stories, The Mummy incorporated elements of romance and reincarnation, establishing the theme of the resurrected mummy searching for lost love, which became a hallmark of later mummy films.

watching a National Geographic series called Lost Treasures of Egypt in which there is an American archaeologist couple, Drs John and Colleen Darnell, who... go around cosplaying as 1920s Egyptologists? While actually also doing Egyptology, but how can anyone take them seriously? Everyone else in this series, whether Egyptian, American or European, is wearing normal modern-day clothes suitable for grubbing around in ruins (one nice Dominican archaeologist puts on waders to very bravely crawl through an incredibly creepy partially flooded tunnel hoping to find Cleopatra's tomb - she hasn't found it yet). In all the Darnells' segments they're just strolling around in temple complexes pointing out hieroglyphic inscriptions, so they don't have to get their outfits dirty.
I thought they were quite weird so I looked them up and found out they are Scandalous, Adulterous, Unethical and Generally Shady:
Colleen Manassa studied for her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at Yale, gaining her B.A. in 2001 and Ph.D. 2005. In 2006 she joined the faculty as an assistant professor and director of undergraduate studies. She was promoted to associate professor in 2010. In January 2013, a scandal broke that Colleen Manassa and fellow professor John Darnell had been carrying out a long-running affair. Within the small Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations (NELC) department, they were the only two faculty members in the even-smaller Egyptology program. "Four individuals with close ties to the department" claimed the relationship was common knowledge within the department, and Assyriology professor Benjamin Foster reported "the basic situation has been known for a very long time." In divorce documents filed by Darnell's wife Deborah Darnell on November 5, 2012, she asserted that the affair began in 2000 when Manassa was an undergraduate student under Darnell's direct supervision. On January 8, 2013, John Darnell admitted to the affair with his student and accepted a one-year suspension without pay. Darnell also admitted to "participating in the review" of Manassa's hiring and attempting to cover up his multiple policy violations. In August 2013 the university prohibited Darnell from holding an administrative position until 2023, and Manassa until 2018.
