The Chains Pokémon partner parings explained.

Hi this is that post where I try to explain my reasoning for pairing each Link with their Pokémon partner + a little fun fact about each Pokémon.

Sky with Dragonite

Sky and Dragonite have quite a few things in common. Their both big, loveable, caring beings who are always ready and willing to help those in need, their both also A LOT stronger than they initially seem. Sky being a literal demon god slayer, and Dragonite being a Pseudo Legendary Pokémon that can control the weather at will.

I imagine that Sky met his Dragonite before his adventure when it was still a little Dratini, they love to take naps together, and go on long flights around Skyloft.

Fun Fact: Pseudo Legendary Pokémon get their title from the fact they have a base stat total of 600, which is the same as most Legendary Pokémon, and are extremely difficult to evolve, Dratini taking 55 levels, or 207,968 experience points earned to evolve into its final form, Dragonite.

Four and his Eeveelutions

To be honest there really wasn’t any other Pokémon besides the Eevee line that had enough evolutions or unique forms/variants to give Four. But even then it’s still a good pick, Eevee can evolve into one of 8 different Pokémon. Jolteon, Vaporeon, Flareon, and Espeon being the most obvious picks for Four/The Colours, Jolteon being the next best thing for Green since there’s no Flying type Eeveelution, and Espeon for Vio due to his book smarts and relation to Shadow, with Vaporeon and Flareon being perfectly fitting for Blue and Red respectively.

I picture Four meeting his Pokémon between his adventures in Minish Cap and Four Swords Adventures, as Eevee, and then taking them with him through the latter adventure. And while Green, Blue, and Red found the evolution stones to evolve their Eevee at some point or another throughout the adventure, Vio and Shadow’s Eevee evolved during their time together when Vio was pretending to be a traitor (Eevee evolves into Espeon and Umbreon through high Friendship during the Day and Night respectively). And that while the Colours were struggling to work together during FSA, their Pokémon were working with each other just fine. After Shadow sacrificed himself, Four cared for his Umbreon.

Fun Fact: Shadow’s Umbreon likely knows Shadow isn’t really gone, but has no solid way of communicating this to Four.

Time with Celebi

Pretty simple really. Time is a time travelling fairy boy from the forest who’s possessed by a deity, Celebi is a time travelling forest guardian fairy who IS a deity.

I believe that Time would meet his Celebi some time after Majora’s Mask, but before the War of Ages.

Fun Fact: Time’s Celebi is nicknamed Navi.

Double Fun Fact: Time’s Celebi Navi may or may not actually be several different Celebi (Cuz there’s actually like a bajilion of these lil onions babies all zipping throughout time and space) and Time has yet to figure this out.

Note: Still a’nt actually settled on whether Navi IS multiple different Celebi or just one single Celebi. Tell me which one you guys think it is in the comments. I genuinely love to hear your thoughts and feedback.

Or I might make a poll or something.

Legend and Lopunny

With the fact that Lopunny is a rabbit Pokémon with a pink shiny, the connection seems pretty surface level, and that I paired the two just cuz I genuinely like Lopunny (Which I admittedly do) but when you look a little deeper into Lopunny’s character, they actually do have more in common with Legend other then aesthetics.

For one, Lopunny evolves via Friendship (Like Espeon and Umbreon) HOWEVER Buneary, Lopunny’s pre evolution, is actually hard to befriend at first, as Wild Buneary always start out with a friendship level of 0, (something usually reserved for Legendary Pokémon) Legend too is a bit rough around the edges and a little hard to get to open up at first, but a loyal companion and friend once he lets people in. As well Lopunny, while not one to go out of it’s way to pick fights, IS a strong and capable fighter, who could hold its own alongside Legend in combat, and much like how Legend has a wide variety of tools in his arsenal, Lopunny is able to learn a wide variety of Moves. Plus both Legend and Lopunny could totally put on one heck of a show if they wanted to.

I would think Legend meets his Lopunny as a Buneary after all his adventures where set and done (But before LU of course) and while they didn’t get along all too well at first, they actually warmed up to each other rather quickly and have become the best of pals since.

Fun Fact: Due to how Pokémon breeding and Egg Groups work, Legend’s Lopunny is able to be siblings with Fable’s partner Pokémon, a Delcatty.

Twilight with Herdier

I wanted to pare Twilight with a Pokémon that would not only work well with his profession as a Rancher, but also not overshadow or replace Epona’s relationship with Twilight, nor the Chains relationship with Wolfie. So I went with Herdier, A loyal and sturdy hard working dog Pokémon that just like real dogs has been working with humans both on and off the farm since ancient times.

Just like Legend and his Pokémon, Twilight meet his Herdier back when it was still just a little Lillipup some time after Twilight Princess, and they do everything together! Work, play, fight, and just overall in joying the simple things in life, Herdier loves to play with the village children, and is happy with its life with Twilight overall.

Fun Fact: Twilight’s Herdier is actually already passed the level when it should have evolved, but hasn’t due to it holding an Everstone, a item that, when held, prevents a Pokémon from evolving even when the conditions for evolution have been met. Herdier has the Everstone because it’s happy as a it is right now, and is in no real rush to evolve, and Twilight respects his Pokémon’s wishes to say a Herdier.

Wind and Clauncher

Again a pretty simple reasoning behind this pairing. Wind loves the Great Sea, the colour blue, and lobsters. Clauncher is a Water type Pokémon that lives in the sea, that is blue, and is a lobster.

Again just like Legend and Twilight, Wind meets his Clauncher after his adventures in Phantom Hourglass, but before LU. Wind loves his Clauncher, and Clauncher does love Wind back, tho that doesn’t mean they don’t get in fights, as Wind and his Clauncher are both hotheads. (Wind taking weeks to get Clauncher to stop attacking Arill’s Wingull, or any Wingull in general for that matter, and being VARY upset with Clauncher during that time. And Clauncher being upset when Wind thinks that he isn’t good enough as a hero or a big brother, despite it being completely untrue, casting Clauncher to become moody with Wind) But they can still both be sincere when it really counts. And will comfort the other when the other is feeling down.

Fun Fact: Wind’s actually had his Clauncher for the same amount of time that Legend and Twilight have had their Pokémon for, but Clauncher has yet to evolve due to Wind lacking the Time to properly train it.

Hyrule with Ribombee

I paired Hyrule with Ribombee due to their similarities. Hyrule is half Fairy, and Ribombee is a duel Fairy type Pokémon. Hyrule is a capable Magic user, and Ribombee is a strong Special Attacker. Hyrule has the ability heal his allies, as so too does Ribombee. Not to mention their both small and cute.

I imagine that Hyrule actually meet his Ribombee as a Cutiefly during his first adventure in Zelda 1, and that while Hyrule was apprehensive about bringing a tiny little Bug Pokémon like Cutiefly on a dangerous quest, Cutiefly did a surprisingly good job holding it’s own against the monsters in the dungeons. And after that, the two have been best buddies ever since.

Fun Fact: Hyrule’s Ribombee has the Ability Honey Gather. Meaning after a battle, Ribombee has a chance of just finding some random honey. Ribombee happily shares this questionable sourced with Hyrule afterwards.

Warriors and Aegislash

Picking out a Pokémon partner for Warriors was the trickiest, I initially thought about giving him a Kingambit, but felt that it didn’t really suit him, as while Warriors does lead an army and is a tactician, I felt that Kingambit’s style of fighting didn’t really suit Warriors. Aegislash however are known to work with people and leaders such as kings, and are known to be good judges of character, which I feel was more fitting. Also I thought it’d be cool to have Warriors use his Aegislash like a sword. (The Pokédex says you shouldn’t do this, but it’s been established that the Pokédex is being written by edgy 12 year olds, and a character did it in one of the mangas, so it should be fine)

Warriors met his Aegislash during the War of Eras, not sure if was already an Aegislash or not tho. Despite the communication barrier between them, the two often do battle planning together, and fight really well together. Aegislash and Warriors a’nt afraid to tell the other off if they were bing stupid, or pushing themselves too far, but also are happy to compliment each other if the other for doing well.

Fun Fact: Warriors Aegislash has a Sassy Nature, meaning it loves bitter foods and hates sweets. Don’t ask me how a sentient ghost sword can eat, it just does.

Wild and his Hisuian Zoroark

And finally we come to Wild and his Zoroark. When I was looking through the Pokédex to see what Mons would fit well with Wild and saw Zoroark, I knew that it would make the perfect partner Pokémon for Wild. A loyal, wild fox Pokémon and master of trickery that will protect its pack no matter what.

Much like the others in the Chain, Wild did not meet his partner as a fully evolved Pokémon, but as a Zorua. But he didn’t meet it as a Hisuian Zorua. They meet each other when they were kids, before Wild had the weight of the world on his shoulders, and back when Zoroark was still a regular Zorua, they became close friends, and where together through thick and thin. Zorua was there when Wild became a knight, Zorua was there Wild when he became Flora’s appointed knight, Zorua was there during the memories, Zorua stood by Wild’s side when Calamity Ganon attacked, Zorua died by Wild’s side during the Battle of Fort Hateno.

And while Link was placed into the Shrine of Resurrection so that he may revive and defeat the Calamity 100 years later, Zorua was not. But Zorua did not need the Shrine of Resurrection. Through the power of they’re hatred for Calamity Ganon, and they’re love for their trainer Wild, Zorua rose from the dead, reborn into the world anew in the form of a Hisuian Zorua. They wanted on the Great Plateau for over a hundred years for Wild to revive, likely evolving during that time. And when Wild finally awoke, it was the happiest day of they’re life. But it was also they’re life, as Wild remembered nothing of his life before the calamity. But even then Zoroark stuck by Wild’s side throughout his adventures in BotW, through thick and thin, and they defeated Calamity Ganon together, along with the Champions, and Zelda. And while the spirits of the Champions and the King passed on afterwards, Zoroark did not, as always Zoroark continued to stand by Wild’s side, through TotK, and Beyond.

The Fun Fact about Wild’s Hisuian Zoroark, is that it uses its power of illusions to help Wild recall his lost memories.

Nemona:

The Famous Mr. B

In terms of how she moves and talks, this was the whole vibe I wanted for Nemona. Normally, she's all energetic and outgoing, but when she is sluggish and tired, she acts like how Mr. B acts. Plus, it also references her low stamina, and since that's a negative aspect of her, that is amplified when she eats the mochi and gets possessed.

Hell, when a battle is initiated, imagine that like the scene where Mr. B says "not even that, anymore..." And a buncha rats crawl out of him, that is when Nemona starts having the nemophila flowers grow on her on a fast rate, is when a battle is initiated. Cause Pechakeen is going to be using all 3 of the Paldea trio as hosts, rather than just Arven.

Penny:

Mustache Girl from A Hat in Time

Let's see... Both have a black and white thinking, seems friendly on the outside, punish those who oppose her rather than forgive them, and get fearful of being alone? Yeah, that's Penny.

Kneevil from Sparklecare Hospital

Penny's insults isn't just "Oh, you're mean!" They would victim blame, target insecurities, and use you at your most vulnerable to get information, then twist it and make you feel worthless. MD! Penny and their Eevee Backpack are a result of the self depreciation and hatred towards themselves that they are now repeating onto others.

Arven:

Dimentio from Super Paper Mario

Dramatic, over confident, jester. I loved this guy since I was a kid, and making this au, I put some of his personality into MD!Arven. Plus, the Fezandipiti mask resembles a jester's mask as a neat lil reference.

Flowey from Undertale Yellow

The reason I said Undertale Yellow specifically is mainly cause of the Flowey Fight. How some other monsters change looks depending on who you killed, especially Starlo's (It resembles what Arven would eventually look like when Pechakeen takes control.)

Plus, you know how Arven was all jealous of the MC having a friend that he went out of his way to call them his BEST friend, I'd imagine Arven's jealousy turns into possessiveness, and Kieran just so happens to be the guy Arven targets, Kieran was nice to him. So when Arven calls Kieran his best friend, it's not in a friendly way, it's in an controlling and guilt trippy way (ex: "you wouldn't hurt your BEST friend, right???")

(Plus with how the bosses look in the image above, I'd imagine that is how Team Star looks in Penny's mind when Pechakeen's illusion is falling apart :)))

Inspiration for Designs:

A lot of art I saw got me into making designs for Paldea trio being the new Loyal Three. Since a LOT of people paired Penny as Munkidori, I took inspiration from that.

Nemona and Arven, was a mixed bag. Some people paired Nemona with Okidogi, others went with Fezandipiti, and I was like, fuck it.

I looked at my versions of the Paldea trio and since I was going with their ideals, Nemona got paired with Okidogi (stronger and battling theme) and Arven got paired with Fezandipiti (Beauty and Self image theme)

As stated before, the Unused concepts will have to be another post, because there is SO MUCH art that I can't fit here.

My love for pokemon has been ignited again recently, so let’s crossover it with another thing i like (Obeyme :D). What pokemon’s type the casts specialized in? Here’s my take:

Lucifer is probably dark or fire type (cuz it fits his aesthetics)

Mammon would be electric or dark type

Levi is obiviously water type

Satan probably psychic/grass? (Or he doesn’t specialized in any types at all, just cats)

Asmo is bug/fairy (i’m leaning onto bug types more cuz bugs are fashionable cuz y’know there’re plenty of clothes are based of bugs’ patterns?)

Beel: fighting type

Belphie: normal or ghost

Thirteen is definitely poison

raphael just gives me massive steel type

Diavolo would be dark/fire/ghost??? (Not sure)

And i think Solomon would be a professor (cuz i can’t think of a type that fits this old man lol). And i really struggle with the remaining characters tho (my imagination has really gone dry)

Ohhh boy. Not me being a huge Pokemon fan ldsaklfdsj. I shall not reveal my true age by telling you how many of these games I have played. MOVING ON

Okay, let's see, I've seen some speculation about what kinds of Pokemon the characters would have, but I haven't considered it myself. Mostly because I know that if I tried to create teams for all the characters I would go down a rabbit hole the likes of which no one has ever seen. I would spend days, possibly weeks, maybe even months, hyper fixating on it.

I think there are a lot of Pokemon that fit the characters but most of my ideas involve mixed type teams.

But if they were like gym leaders and had only one specific type that they specialized in? I think I can manage that?

These are just my general thoughts, kind of off the top of my head, but it's all subject to change at a moment's notice lol.

I agree with Lucifer being Dark. I can just see him having a Houndoom, Zoroark, possibly an Umbreon.

I can't help but think that Mammon would be Normal because there is no way that guy doesn't have a Meowth. Also wouldn't it be cute if he had a lil Eevee?? I also see him with a Zigzagoon.

Levi is definitely Water. Gyarados, Lapras, maybe a Greninja? Yeah that feels right.

Satan would absolutely just be cats. Though I do believe I saw someone say Mimikyu would be a good one for him, too, and I agreed with that argument! But if I had to choose a type for him, I think Psychic is a good choice. Since he tends to be more focused on knowledge and the mind, I think it could work. Plus can you imagine him with a Galarian Ponyta? And of course he'd have a Meowstic!

I tend to lean more toward Fairy for Asmo just because I'm pretty sure he doesn't like bugs lol. But I think if I was gonna choose something for Asmo, it'd be Grass. I know, but hear me out. How many Grass type Pokemon are straight up beautiful flowers? Give him a Bellossom or a Sunflora or a Roselia.

Then I would give Bug type to Beel lol. Though I absolutely feel like Fighting would work, too ('cause like omg Beel with a Machamp). I just think it goes with the whole fly situation, you know? Plus how cute would it be for him to have a Butterfree? I mean yeah okay he can have a Scyther too and like a Joltik but also give that guy a Cutiefly you know what I'm saying?

Belphie definitely gives me Ghost vibes for some reason. I can't explain it, but I just see him definitely having a Drifloon. Also a Gengar. And a Pumpkaboo just because that feels right too lol. I have no idea why.

I think Diavolo would be the Dragon type. That feels right to me. Dragonite, Salamence, Garchomp, maybe a Drampa or Goodra. I dunno, just feels like the right type for him.

I really can't decide on a single type for Barbatos. I think he'd like a Ghost type like Sinistea or a Fairy type like Comfey. But he's got the Little Ds, right?? They're close enough! Demon type lol.

Now I could totally see Solomon being one of those absolutely unhinged professor types lol. But I could also see him having Flying or Ice type. Or Psychic or Fairy. I think he could have any of those. Like give that grandpa an Alakazam or an Altaria or a Glaceon or a Clefable. Okay see this is what I mean when I start being unable to choose a specific type lol.

I could also see Simeon having Flying type. Again with a Swablu or Altaria, but also a Togekiss or Swanna.

Luke would be Fairy type. Especially considering how many Fairy type Pokemon are also desserts. Give that kid an Alcremie, a Slurpuff, and of course a Fidough! Also a Togepi to match Simeon's Togekiss.

I agree that Thirteen would be Poison. That feels accurate! Give her a Seviper and a Croagunk! Oh and a Salazzle.

I think Raphael could be Steel, Ground, or Rock lol. Or even Fighting I think would work too. I don't think there's a spear like Steel type, but there is the swords Aegislash. But I think I could see him with an Onix or like a Solrock too.

Mephisto completely baffles me. Maybe Poison also? Or Fire? I could see him with a Ninetails.

Well, these are just basic ideas, and I agree with multiple types for each character. It's too hard for me to give a single type to each! For instance, I also think Mammon would have a Gimmighoul and that's a Ghost type. I didn't even give anyone Electric in the end, but I could see him having a Pikachu, too lol.

Anyway, that was fun to think about, but you can see that if I got serious about it, I'd end up getting way too into it lol. I'm always open to hear other people's thoughts and ideas on this, too! I know others have discussed it before! (For instance, I recommend checking out @/another-lost-mc because I know Jes has a Pokemon AU!)

I know you and Marnie have a soft spot for Joan, so I wanted to update you guys on how everything is going. I also figured you’d like that Kagehime got to help some younger trainers get past their apprehension of dark types. And Sylph just wanted to be included.

Very nice work! dark-types definitely need more love and appreciation. M'glad you helped him get past their apprehension~

Tell me about the Bailey and Ver Pokemon AU!What kinds of trainers are they? What made them choose the type preferences and teams that they did? Do their Pokemon have nicknames?

I made their teams with the idea of them being gym leaders in mind

I remember vaguely hearing something about generally people don’t actually have a full team of Pokemon unless they’re either a trainer battling the gyms or a gym leader (or something to that extent) so that’s what I went for, mostly

Bailey’s team was originally all going to be ghost type Pokemon! But there weren’t enough ghost pokemon that I liked for him so he’s ended up with a mix of ghost and dark types

Bailey sorta suits the ghost type aesthetic anyway so I figured I’d lean into a lil bit!! That and he has a small interest in ghosts/the paranormal in his regular version

Veronica got fairy type! She’s definitely suited for fairy type pokemon anyway, like if she was building her own team she would absolutely pick fairy

But also! She gets to dress in sylveon colours which is very gender of her

Bailey is more of the strategy type, he definitely looks into move sets and setting up strategy like some hardcore competitive players do

Veronica is on the other end of the scale where if she just hits her opponent hard enough they pass out first and she wins, who needs setup moves or stat boosts, those are for cowards

I’d say individually they’re good trainers! They definitely both love their pokemon a lot

They also definitely got their eevees at the same time!

And they got their gengar and clefable to sorta parallel each other since a lot of people associate them together

Bailey got his absol for a very *specific* reason and it’s probably the pokemon he has out with him the most often because he feels the most safe when its around

Also they absolutely both nickname their pokemon and Veronica is 100% the type to dress up her silly lil guys in all the accessories she can manage

They’re both relatively strong trainers I’d say (not that I know jack shit about team building. I’m on Veronica’s team personally) but I definitely wouldn’t put them in such as like. The elite four.

Bailey’s flaw as a trainer is probably over planning whereas Ver’s is not planning at all

The main issue with Bailey is that if his plan starts to fail he doesn’t really have a backup

And Ver’s direct opposite is she struggles against opponents who take the time to set up certain stat boosts n such

If I’d designed them to be regular trainers rather than gym leaders I’d downsize their team to maybe half

Bailey would keep Absol, Gengar and Umbreon. Veronica would keep Tinkaton, Clefable and Sylveon

And if I had the energy I’d definitely design all their pokemon individually and give em all funny nicknames and accessories

They’re probably also just as competitive in the pokemon universe as they are their regular one

Opinions on each of the starter Pokemon, Kari.

I'll preface this post by saying that 1) I'm kinda biased towards water types and 2) I haven't actually played a Pokemon game since HG/SS, so my opinions have more to do with how I like them just from a design/lore perspective and their appearances in other media (like the anime) than their competitive viability

With that out of the way... let's go~

Bulbasaur - Still one of the most underrated starters I think. I loved Ash's Bulbasaur in the anime, he was one sassy bitch lol

Charmander - A touch overexposed, but for good reason. Who doesn't love a fire breathing dragon buddy

Squirtle - I love the concept, but honestly most of my fondness for it comes from Ash's Squirtle. The one with the glasses

Pikachu - I mean, it's the mascot of the series. I don't think I can hate it even if I tried. It's cute and we all know it

Eevee - I'm kinda meh on the whole line tbh... and the Eevee you get as a starter can't evolve anyways...

Chikorita - Honestly probably the most forgettable of the starters. I don't really think much of it

Cyndaquil - It's a cute little shrew thing that evolves into a honey badger. Okay I guess? Hisuian Typholosion was needed badly

Totodile - Look, Ash's Totodile being a happy dancy lil guy was all they needed to make me love it

Treecko - A bunch of Poketubers I watch regularly are fond of it, and although I see the appeal, I'm just okay on it

Torchic - I love the whole line tbh, but I still haven't gotten over my cousin's kid saying Combusken looks like a dick.

Mudkip - My answer to the "Do you like Mudkips?" meme is "No, I absolutely adore Mudkips and will die for them"

Turtwig - Probably the most underrated of the Sinnoh starters and I kinda see why people struggle to use it

Chimchar - I see the appeal, even if I never used it as a starter myself. I also got attached to it because of Ash's Chimchar

Piplup - Piplup was my first starter so I adore it a lot... It's just so full of personality whenever I see it. Project Pochama was lit

Snivy - All I know about it is the infamous episode where Ash's Pikachu lost to one at the start of B/W

Pignite - Kinda went overboard with the Fire/Fighting combi at this point... also it's not really appealing in anyway lol

Oshawott - I think it has the most likeable personality of the starters? The scalchop thing is really cute

Chespin - Chespin's evolutions are... something. Poor guy got the short end of the design stick

Fennekin - I think it has the best concept of the three Kalos starters. Yes, even more than ninja frogman

Froakie - I think they were trying to turn it into Charizard 2.0 and... I guess it worked for a while? I like it well enough I guess

Rowlet - The cutest borb (birb+orb) turning into a badass ghost archer? Yes please! Also, Ash's Rowlet was hilarious in S&M

Litten - I guess I was just thankful they didn't make it Fighting type again lol

Popplio - It's a cute little thing, I don't understand why people didn't like it when it was first revealed

Grookey - I may have compared it to one Banjou Ryuuga when it was revealed lol. Ryuuga's my fave 2nd Rider though...

Scorbunny - It's a cute lil bunny, how could I hate it? It also seemed to have the most personality out of the Galar starters

Sobble - *gathers him into my arms* I will protect this one with my life even if it evolves into lizard James Bond

Sprigatito - Do I want a cat that can knead me and make me kinda high? ...Maybe

MARIA [their mom] (Not really a trainer, just thinks Pokémon are Neat)

- Audino [It's a very sweet looking Pokémon and its also often associate with medicine, something she wanted to pursue before she decided to settle down with Lucio. She'd call it Vanilla or something and it'd be her 4th spoiled baby (see 3rd spoiled baby below).

- Larvitar [It eats dirt and Maria is a farmer, so opening up the extra space is a big help for her ! She treats it like a little guy and loves carrying it around despite the fact it weighs her own bodyweight.]

LUCIO [their dad] (Rock type)

- His team is entirely utilitarian, since Lucio constantly is travelling and battling and whatnot, but he does have some affection for the little guys. Like everything else in this man's life however, he is very very bad at showing love and often comes across as cold because of it.

- Rhyhorn [It's big, its sturdy and, much like Lucio himself, its very grumpy and old. Probably his starter to be honest.]

- Onix [No funny business type of guy. I just think it fits with his permanent scowl and ever so disturbing stare.]

- Graveler [see above]

- Aggron [All work no play Pokémon. Probably main damage source in the team]

ARCHER (Psychic type)

- Ralts [Eventually grows into Gallade, but his dad only got him one because Archer had a bowl cut and thought it was funny. Also just kind of a good starter in general. Helped Archer through a lot of weird times in his life :]]

- Rotom [Mostly a convenience thing but also connects to another character in his story. It plays inconvenient sound effects. Constantly]

- Magnemite -> Magneton [Was bonded to his brother's Beldum, and wouldn't let go even if you threw it far away. Eventually got really attached and just never let go. Kind of an exception in his team since he doesn't really battle with it.]

- Espeon [Evolved from an eevee he stole rescued from some bandits. Acts as his third eye and partner in crime, and is the only thing that Archer considers to be as smart if not more smart than himself. Loves this thang to death, would absolutely kill for it. And he has.]

JONAH (Steel/Electric type)

- Lilipup -> Stoutland [Not really for battle, this is more of a service dog. Has been with Jonah since forever, and he loves it to death.]

- Mareep -> Flaaffy [Silly wee lad, technically his starter since it was given to him by his mom...until]

- Beldum -> Metagross [Listen man if you show this guy a cool ass robot you BET YOUR ASS he's gonna use it as his main Pokémon. Bonded to his brother's magnemite, and a real powerhouse of a creature. It can probably level a building if it wanted to but its still very gentle, which is probably why Jonah loves it so much.]

Comet ( glaceon, no tera type ) - originally an eevee when he first met him, this was his first ‘mon, from the time when he was still living in sinnoh, then evolved to glaceon. 

Aurora ( alolan ninetales, no tera type ) - fancy little lady that came with him after a competition in alola, she can be a little judgemental of everyone else, but means well.

Fjord ( mamoswine, no tera type ) - picked up in sinnoh as a swinub during a break from one of his snowboarding events. pretty laid back, doesn’t like to listen much outside of battle, opting instead to lay down and nap or eat.

Rime ( frosmoth, ice tera type ) - a little more serious and collected than the rest of the team, she likes to keep herself and her surroundings tidy and prefers to keep to herself in her own little corner.

Eclipse ( weavile, fighting tera type ) - sneaky little bastard that followed grusha back to the gym. he had no choice but to take him in. he’s grown on him, somehow. eclipse loves to fight, and as such grusha has had a handful to deal with, but he’s become a pretty fierce fighter in the team.

Nieve ( altaria, fire tera type ) - the gentlest one in the team, always following grusha around and fussing over him. she likes to smother him in her fluff when he’s clearly upset to pull him out of his own thoughts.

Boris ( feraligatr, no tera type ) - this one was a total accident. some weird fucking guy he met in his brief time in johto handed the totodile to him. no he doesn’t talk about it. yes he still begrudgingly ( not really ) brought the lil guy back to paldea with him and raised it.

Blaze ( flareon, fire tera type ) - cuddly little guy, despite being the odd one out he’s very welcomed in the cold of glaseado mountain and grusha often falls asleep with him in his lap or just laying on him. also helps in case of emergencies up in the mountain with all the snow and ice.

Snowball ( spheal, no tera type ) - literally just a lil guy. doesn’t really battle he’s just there to keep grusha company and be emotional support. 

additionally, he takes care of the various cetoddle pods that live around the area, even allowing them to come into his gym at times if they ask for it. they’re just little guys your honor how can he say no to those lil faces and silly dances.

he does switch around his team when it comes to gym battles, but they all tend to wander around outside their pokeballs when he doesn’t have to go somewhere else or go take on a challenger.

mumbo works in a pokemon containment facility meant to observe and rehabilitate hostile/abandoned pokemon (either via adoption or relocation to the wild) and is in charge of keeping the servers running and making sure the database is up to date, which it frequently is not. grian tries training against mumbo often, but you can only battle the same trainer so main times before memorizing his movesets and using the same battle strategy over and over again, so mumbo gives him scar's number and suggests grian train with him instead. scar's only been retired a few years so he tends to have to shoo away rookie trainers from his front porch all the time, but grian instead offers to run favors for him (entirely by accident. scar's reputation FAR precedes himself, and was known for knocking trainers flat on their ass countless times when facing his team. plus, being one of the youngest professional gym trainers in the area, it's hard to get some peace and quiet.) scar finds this hilarious and decides to give grian a stupid amount of tasks to do, ranging from grocery shopping to weeding his garden, until grian finally caves and admits why he's really here. grian fully expects to be sent away, but scar is swayed by grian's persistence and complete dedication to the, objectively speaking, pointless tasks he was given, so scar agrees to help train grian's team.

misc. notes here: mumbo is the oldest of the three at about 26, with grian being 22 and scar 25. i think it's weird that pokemon just lets children run off and be trainers so let's assume that's not common practice here mumbo has a handful of badges, mostly so that his pokemon will listen to him. nearly all of his pokemon (minus the noctowl and the porygon) were gifted to him, so they're a little unruly at times. scar raised all of his pokemon either from eggs or newly born. (if i weren't working with gen 2 he would 100% have a sylveon) grian's eevee was actually a gift from scar, given to grian as an egg that he took great care in watching over.

SVSSS pokemon AU where after he transmigrates Shen Yuan has to basically befriend Shen Jiu’s pokemon so they don’t give away the fact that he’s not Shen Jiu and because of that he actually clues into SJ’s traumatic background and sees the people around him as people instead of characters a LOT sooner than in canon

I don’t think that SQQ would have a full six team, even if he does battle regularly, but I think he’d have three at most that were originally SJ’s and then as the story goes on, he might adopt a few more of his own to signify his acceptance into his new identity and role 

NOW THE FUN PART!!! Here’s what I think the character’s pokemon teams would be! Its long so i’ll put it under the cut

Shen Jiu: Serperior (caught while working under Wu Yanzi as a Snivy), a Ninetails (given as an ‘engagement gift’ to Shen Jiu as a Vulpix by Qiu Haitang, helped him burn down the estate), and a Thievul (never really ‘caught’ this pokemon, but is considered his “first” pokemon as its lurked around him since his time on the streets as a Nickit- helped feed him and Qi-ge as streetkids, lead Qi-ge to SJ when he was locked up in the Qiu household, helped him with his jobs for Wu Yanzi, is seen skulking around Qing Jing causing problems on purpose)

Shen Yuan: Technically all of Shen Jiu’s but also a Zoroark (caught as a Zorua, affectionately named “Bingpup” or “BingBing” or “BB” he was caught after the Skinner incident, symbolizes SY ability to trick others in to believing in an illusion), and an Absol (started following him around before the Abyss arc, making everyone fear that something terrible was going to happen to SQQ, nicknamed “Cassandra” or “Cass”, never leaves the peak except for the time it was skulking around Huan Hua Palace before SQQ escaped and died, symbolizes SY regret that he can’t change things the way he wants)

Yue Qingyuan: Boltund (officially caught after he became a disciple, but used to follow him and SJ around as street kids), a Yamask (found it at the Qiu Estate Ruins, it sought him out and followed him back to the peak, he thought it was Xiao Jiu for the longest time), and Zacian (found him dying in the caves, only reason he survived binding his soul to the Xuan Su sword)

Luo Binghe: Haxorus (captured it after he was accepted at Qing Jing as an Axew, its a shiny, evolved in the Abyss), a Houndoom (found in the Abyss), Darkrai (found it in the dream realm, not technically ‘his’ pokemon but follows him around, is his Signature pokemon as a Heavenly Demon Lord), and a Sylveon (given to him by his mother as an Eevee egg, turned into a Sylveon before the Abyss arc, was so heartbroken over the betrayal but it stayed on QJ peak, it would lay by the Sword Mound and SQQ would talk with it daily, in PIDW it was an Umbreon) 

Liu Qingge: Bisharp (the pokemon he got after becoming a “War God”, YYX as a matching Pawniard which SQQ thinks is the cutest thing), Lucario (technically ‘his’ pokemon as it follows him around but isnt caught, likes to follow him and fight alongside LQG), Aegislash (his signature pokemon, got him when he was 4 years old and first learning sword forms), Gallade (given to him as a Ralts, a matching pair to LMY’s Gardevoir, upon LQG death in PIDW he became LMY’s pokemon but this doesnt happen in SVSSS), Braviary (given to him by SQQ as a Rufflet as a joke but jokes on him he loves the loud guy)

Shang Qinghua: Meowth  (OG’s only pokemon, SQH found it on his way to CQP, started off as a bitter angry thing, but became more lax as time went on, will often hiss at those he feels are being unfair to SQH and is not allowed near MBJ because of this, nicknamed “Lil’ Big Money” or “Lil’”), Whimsicott (became his as a disciple, helped him sneak around for MBJ and steal things/gather info, nicknamed “Q-tip” or “Q”), Snom (given to him by MBJ as a gift years into their partnership but before canon, said it ‘reminded him of you’ SQH was insulted but still loves him, nicknamed “Puddle”), Skwovet (his first pokemon, nicknamed “Cheeks,” he’s had this pokemon since he was 4 and it’s been his closest companion and knows all his secrets, acts as an emotional support pokemon) 

Mobei-Jun: Regice (acquired this pokemon after he got his inheritance, a pokemon that only follows the Mobei-Jun), Glalie (a pokemon he’s had since he was a child, considered his signature pokemon), Galarian Darumaka (he found it in a blizzard, it reminds him of SQH so he keeps it and feeds it berries, it likes to hide in his cloak when he travels, SQH had no idea about this pokemon until well into their romantic relationship, he thought it was just a random pokemon running around in the palace)

his ace would be a hydreigon which of course he would name cerbeus. hydreigon only listens to lucifer and helps lucifer with keeping his brothers in line. just the sight of him is enough to make the brothers shit themselves.

his other pokemon would include dragonite, garchomp, haxorus, appletun and salamence.

oh god mammon. if you thought satan liked cats then you got another thing coming.

he has an army of meowths. all types, alolan, galarian, regular, he has SO many. if he sees a wild meowth it’s automatically added to the squad.

his shiny galarian meowth is nicknamed goldie!

he would also have a honchkrow just to shake it up a bit.

mammon isn’t the best battler so he isn’t going for badges or anything.

his brothers live in fear of his meowth squad, he has them trained to scan the house for anything valuable to sell. satan is the only brother who can somewhat deal with them and that’s only because he finds them cute (when they aren’t taking his books)

just wants to make money and vibe with the squad.

water type trainer! he’s literally named after a sea monster don’t fight me.

his magikarp henry was made fun of by mammon a bunch. his pride when he evolved into a glorious gyarados and proceeded to send mammon flying team rocket style is unreached.

nobody fucks with henry.

other pokemon on his team are swampert, azumarill, pyukumuku, wooper and toxapex. however he has literally every water type out there, he switches out his team depending on who he’s up against.

the smaller guys like to sleep in his hoodie and he finds it the most precious thing in the world.

he may hate going outside to fight but once hes actually battling he’s terrifying. the best battler out of the bros.

now you’d think he’d have all the cat types but here me out.

eevee breeder satan.

loves all the eeveelutions, can’t pick a favourite they are all so cute.

nicknames them after characters from books.

if anyone dares to call his pokemon weak or useless he turns into the biggest cat eevee mum and will make them eat their words. personally. no one insults his babies.

he’s ok at battling but much prefers researching. reading about all the legends out there while sat in front of a fire with all the eevees surrounding him is his joy in life.

i can see him being a professor or at least in some sort of academic role as well.

a favourite? asmo doesn’t do favourites. all his pokemon are amazing and you will understand that.

has a fondness for fairy types for their elegance but ultimately has no type preference. just likes beautiful pokemon.

his team would include milotic, beautify, galarian rapidash, hatterne and gardevoir.

he also has a florges in every colour.

pampers his pokemon. they are all spoiled little babies and he knows it.

this good boy likes bug types.

he hates how much bug types are underestimated and thought of as the weakest. why does that matter?

bug types seem to flock to beel it’s so wholesome. it’s like they know if they stay with beel they’ll get all the love and affection they could ever want.

he doesn’t have a team, he has a swarm. the ones he has the strongest bond with are snom, caterpie, surskit, volcarona, joltik and golisopod.

beel and his snom is literally like patrick star and rocky.

someone insults his little caterpie? first of all how dare you? it’s like fucking with a mama bears child you don’t wanna do that.

his only non bug type is morpeko. the lil guy is nicknamed beel jr by his brothers since it has a bigger appetite then beel.

who would win? 6 demons guarding a fridge or 1 electro boi.

doesn’t really have any goals. unless becoming the biggest bug type protector you’ve ever seen is a goal.

sleepy man likes ghost types. likes how spooky they are. however he doesn’t specialise in them.

his team includes snorlax, komala, gengar, banette, mimikyu and mismagius.

has pulled so many good pranks with the help of his team. lucifer doesn’t just have mammon’s meowth squad to worry about, here’s a moment of silence for his sanity.

he enjoys taking naps with snorlax and komala. snorlax reminds him a little of beel with how it’s like a black hole when it comes to food.

snorlax is so fluffy and soft it makes the perfect cushion. snorlax drives his brothers insane with how it’ll just plonk down in the middle of a doorway to sleep since it’s impossible to move.

My main team and two support Pokémon.

This team has been with me for years. Serena has been here since I was eight. Bare in mind Service/support Pokémon cannot fight if they are seen as outside the 6. They all have helped while I was trying to compete for champion. Raven was my rival and best friend while I also had a few friends who also would fight against me. For the most part my team didn't change too much during it all. Especially with joining up as a ranger when I was young. Now adays I go around as a breeder and study Pokémon variants and how they adapt to their environment in college. My main team I rarely fight with as I have a separate competitive team. Serena First Pokémon I ever got was a Eevee called Serena. She's been with me since I was eight when I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. She and I trained together and so she could help me manage. Near the end of her training she evolved into Sylveon and we then started a little bit more specific training so she could help using her ribbons. She did evolve really early on but she's doing well and is happy enough. She's a fully certified diabetic alert Pokémon and is often seen following me around. She's the most likely Pokémon of mine to see with me in town and at home. She also is very close with the fox , cat and dog pokemon on site. Especially Nyx, Sandwich and Nightshade. Saturn. This lil guy actually didn't become my Pokémon till much later. He was a lil Pidove who I would feed in my first home back down at Postwick. He got really use to me and would even sit on my hand. I'd tend to keep Serena away from him just in case. One day I had to move and expected never to see him again. I spent the whole two days at the times he usually comes to my windows and he never showed up. On the third I moved up to Wedgehurst to my dads. Only to find a Pidove all too familiar in town with a folk. He stayed wild till I was 12. When I actually caught him. He was usually with me anyway but I caught him when he made it clear he wished to join me on my journey and see the whole of Galar. Now he's a Unfezant who's a glutton. He hasn't been caught for so long due to me joining the Rangers when I was 12. He flies about and helps me find any missing or injured Pokémon. He fits in my team fairly well though him and Sandwich can be quite the hand full. Especially since hes aware of how pretty he is and loves going to contests. Hes quite the bad loser too. (His favourite contests are the cuteness and beauty.) Sandwich My starter Pokémon. A gift from my partner Raven as I started my journey quite late due to my family being worried about me with my health issues travelling through Galar. I managed to get them to let me leave after I showed my friends who would be joining me on my adventure. I didn't get to start till I was 13. My partner, friend at the time gave me a shiny Vulpix variant (Classic/kanto) named Sandwich. Sandwich is a calm and mischievous Ninetales. She was my main Pokémon partner and she loved competing against my friends. Now a days most contests are at contest spectators and a friendly fight ever now and then. She took along time to decide to evolve. Now she's a Ninetales who is absolutely aware of how gorgeous she is. She's often found wandering with me or hanging out with Nyx. They form snuggle piles and all the fox Pokémon will sit with them, its utterly adorable. She serves as the guardian of the farm. Nightshade. Another support/service Pokemon. I got him gifted to me from the same breeder my family got Serena from. I knew he was most likely to Evolve into a Umbreon just from his connection to the moon and being wide awake at night. Which was really good for sleepless nights while out or at home. We often go out on late walks when I cant sleep or if I just want to enjoy the night. This lil guy helps with anxiety and my autism. He reminds me to take my meds too though my partner does that plenty anyway. Nyx. A Zorua shiny that I found in the Crown Tundra. He was on his own and badly hurt. I was a ranger at the time and we got told we were watching the Crown Tundra for a bit. I looked

after him the most. Eventually he ended up joining me and being registered under my Trainer ID. He gets along alot with Sandwich, Serena and Nightshade. They use to form a little fur pile. Now sometimes they'll sleep together and it is the cutest thing. Nyx is mostly seen as the dad of the farm. He occasionally gives canine and fox pokemon rides in his fur.

Bud. A Cottonee who's parents I caught in the wilds. Shes my first ever pokemon I got myself from breeding. She started my love for grass types. She is wonderful to relax and sit with. She loves decorating her cotton various accessories like ribbons and bows. She is wonderful. I was 14 when I raised her with the help of other breeders , Pokémon and partner. She is a cross she mostly looks like cottonee but she has a little bit of Roserade making it so she has small flowers behind her horns.

Avalon. Avalon was given to me around a year after I stopped being a Ranger. I started joining small clubs for Pokémon breeding some were variants and others for competitive Pokémon. I gave one of the members one of my pokemon (A corviknight.) I got them back a few weeks later but about my anniversary of leaving the rangers I was alerted that I was sent a Pokemon. Turns out it was a little Applin. Now I know that couples often present one to one another and I really thought of giving him to my partner especially since Sandwich was given to me by them. While looking after him I came up with the name Avalon. He has stayed with me since. He usually sits on my shoulder or curls on my bag, cuddling onto me while I do chores. Nagi Nagi the Noivern. He is a little rascal and second dragon type Pokémon I raised from an egg. He would sit and hang from my tent pole alot during camping. He was the last pokemon in my party. I got him after I stopped going to gyms after leader Allister and being a ranger. Nagi and the rest of the team helped defeat all the way to Leon. Though I failed to defeat him. After that I went on to work, got a place and now go full time to college. He helps out a lot with travel which ill take him over a Corviknight taxi unless I must. He helps with any emergency travel spots to the Pokecenter. Hes a lot calmer now happy to go out on rides though and he still loves the game catch. I toss a ball up in the air and he usually tosses it around for a bit before returning it and repeating all over again. And that's all my Pokémon!
