“Oh, I can’t wait to make you a little prince for all those tea parties, Jake! You will love pink lemonade!”

Rosalie declared, her soft laughter echoing off the walls.

Esme, the nurturing matriarch, offered you a warm cup of tea while knitting a tiny blue sweater for Jacob.

“You know, dear,”

She said, her voice soft and kind,

“being a mom is about finding the beauty in every little moment. Cherish every giggle, every tear. You’ll be incredible- just like Edward.”

You turned to Edward, who was sitting on the couch, watching the lively scene unfold around you with that tender smile you adored. He was so sweet, so patient, sometimes you almost forgot he could do more than love; he could express his love in countless ways.

If Esme could have thrown up, she was sure she would have done. Now their vows were done and the knot tied, her entire being is practically trembling with happiness and adrenaline. To see her surname written as Cullen, it is euphoric beyond words.

Edward is the witness; both the best and only choice, but Esme wouldn't have had it any other way.

Her marriage to Charles was far showier than she would have liked; a point made that she was being transferred from one man to the other. A fact Charles never let her forget.

With every kiss Carlisle places on Esme's lips, she can't help but smile wider, her cheeks aching with joy she can't remember feeling for years. The officiant congratulates them as they depart, the bouquet she arranged held loosely between fingers.

Home is the only place they can go, unable to celebrate in the traditional sense, but Esme doesn't care. The last time she had done this, she set foot in a stranger's house, expected to consummate the marriage with a man she barely knew or loved.

Edward is removing his tie when she finds him. She's still in her wedding dress, but she's fussing with her bouquet as she seeks out a vase to put it in. He's still got the traces of a smile playing on his lips and Esme remains glowing.

Satisfied with the vase she eventually finds, Esme fills it with water and places her bouquet there, unable to gift it to a bridesmaid. Edward watches the process from start to finish, but she doesn't think he'll expect the sudden, tight hug she gives him. Her face disappears into his shoulder as fingers tightly grasp onto the back of his suit jacket.

"Thank you," she murmurs into him, lost clarity only corrected by thoughts. "Thank you for giving me away and being there. It meant the world to both of us. We couldn't have done it without you."
