*steps on a soapbox* actually, i dont think the spotify wrapped top 100 playlist shows the songs in correct order. if there's an artist that you've listened to a lot, you can see that outside of the top 5, their songs can only take up every 4th spot at most. it's something ive noticed for the 3rd year in a row and is in no way a coincidence. there appears to be an arbitrary limit, probably put there for the sake of variety, but also preventing the actual order to be shown in situations where there's one prevailing arti- *gets dragged off the soapbox and shot off-screen*

im gonna start posting fanfic recs btw whenever i find good ones. both here and my (awfully barren) 18+ account. because there are so many good fics out there with so few hits and fewer kudos and sometimes no comments period and it SUCKS because i REALLY LIKE THEM A LOT.. and i hope that by linking them here and yelling at everyone to COMMENT DAMMIT they might actually do it

seriously though any comment means a lot. most people who read a fic don’t even give a kudos. even if the fic wasn’t top tier, if you didn’t dislike it, hand over some kudos!! and if you liked it, comment!!!! even if the comment is one singular heart emoji it will be appreciated. if the comment just says “great fic!” the author will be happy. your comment doesn’t have to be this long winded gushing or analysis.

so many authors quit writing or lose motivation because the comments are few and far in between or just sometimes nonexistent. trust me when i say authors don’t care about how long or cool or smart sounding your comment is i promise!!!

i hope that mmmaybe recommending fics and telling people to comment might help fics i really like get more support maybe. and i, points at you reading this, hope that you will listen!!!at least a little….at least sum kudos….

Currently Reading: i'm such a fake reader.. i have a stack of books on my nightstand that i keep promising i'll dig into but i end up passing out every night before i get there 😭 i'm like mid-way through a little life by hanya yanagihara (had to stop because it was soul-crushing). i keep red, white & royal blue by casey mcquiston there because it's a comfort read for me, it's just very cute. and the two that i've been meaning to start are jurassic park by michael crichton and tin man by sarah winman. there's also a few fics i've been meaning to catch up on/start reading but tbh i've had a very difficult time reading in general lately so i'm not sure when i'll get to them.

Currently Watching: nothingggg... i rarely watch anything, omg this post makes me sound so BORING... the last thing i watched was challengers (which i really enjoyed) but that was a couple weeks ago, i think. when they finally animate SBR i'll watch that LOL

The fact that Kaity was an academic really boggled Sicily's mind. The fact that she could even put up with doing assignments, and sometimes even sought them out for fun, drove her mad. She's so fucking intelligent that for her, what Sicily drudged through is like skipping through a park on a sunny day. It'd piss her off, if Kaity didn't use this magical power to her advantage, and if she didn't wear the prettiest smile while doing it.

She got lost in her brain watching Kaity wiggling around in her seat, typing something on her laptop in their kitchen. She's dressed very casually, wearing some black leggings and what she thinks is one of her T-shirts... She's wearing a focused expression on her face, proven by the little fang that pokes her lip... She's working on something. Sicily's curiosity perks just at the sight of it. She can't let her and her little fang sit alone like that.

"Hey sugarplum, what are you up to?" She says, the legs of the wooden stool squeaking on the floor as she sits down next to her. She catches a glimpse of her screen, which is full of lines of text in a Squoogle document. Her eyes practically glaze over.

Kaity giggles at the nickname, bashfully playing with the end of one her tentacles. "I'm applying to college..." She laughs. "Again. Graduate school."

Sicily's jaw drops. "Why the hell would you do that? Don't you already have a degree?"

"I'm curious about how you inklings get educated." Her tapered finger pokes Sicily's nose. "And also, don't you think it'd give me a better chance at a good job if I'm educated in the inkling world?"

"Don't you already have that good apprenticeship with Sheldon? Why in the world would you want to go back to school?"

"I already told you, sugarplum." She smirks.

Sicily scoffs, her face slightly flushed. "I dropped out of college for a reason...and it was art college. Not even any of that incomprehensible STEM stuff you're into."

"You dropped out of college because you were dedicated to being the amazing Agent 3. Now we're girlfriends. We don't have to worry about any of that war stuff. Plus, Ammo Knights has the benefits that make my tuition almost completely free." She shrugs. "Flexible hours, too."

"That's...fucking..." Sicily's hands claw her own face in stress. "What are you even applying for? Master's in Engineering?"

"Ya." She flicks one of her short tentacles. It bounces back in a way Sicily finds adorable. "What, are smart women not your type?"

"Kaity...!" Sicily whines, leaning into Kaity and grasping her T-shirt dramatically. "You are so fucking hot but I just don't understand why you would do this...! Why does your brain work the way it does?!"

She rolls her eyes, and lifts her bangs to quickly kiss her forehead. "You're a weirdo. Can you check my grammar for this excerpt really quick?"

Tumblr cultural knowledge

The phrase 'cultural knowledge' is basically an insult and a criticism in my industry. If something isn't written down and shared in a way that's identifiable, accessible, and clear to the applicable individuals, it doesn't exist. Meaning that the correct usage will be lost as time and people change.

Here are a few things I've gleaned in my relatively short time of being an active tumblr user. (NOTE: 95% of my time here is via the mobile app). Please correct me if I've got anything wrong. I'd adore to see any that you've picked up as well.

Continue Reading Button: it's the last one in the tool bar. Looks like a zigzag line between two straight lines. I've added one to this post after this point. Even if you've selected the 'shorten long posts' option on your profile, that won't apply to reblogs. Save everyone's feeds and add it yourself to posts longer than three standard paragraphs.

Gifs: the search utility for gifs legit sucks. There is a logic applied but I can't say I've fully cracked it. What you CAN do if you want to add a specific gif to a post is paste the url of the gif's post into the gif search. Grab this via the three dots menu of any post, there'll be a copy link option. This will only grab the first image of that post though. BUT it will include the proper credit below the gif. Here's an example:

Gif credit: tapping the username below gif will open the source post.

Reblogs: the reason reblogs are so important for tumblr specifically is because the feed doesn't present posts to you outside of your parameters. Those parameters are mainly: 1) blogs you've followed and 2) tags you've followed. You reblogging a post gives it a chance to be seen again within the parameters you influence. So if you don't have any followers, you've got to add tags that ppl may have followed. If you don't use tags on posts, it can only be seen by those who follow you (theoretically, I've chatted with a few moots about the fact that we don't see each other's posts in the feed).

Post Edits: Reblogs don't sync with the original posts. If you edit a post, all of the reblogs will not update with the edits and will exist exactly as the post was when it was reblogged.

Was this helpful? I've got a few more oddities I've encountered but they seem more like workarounds to defects and I've tried to list the pain points I've personally noticed that seem to result from the intended design of tumblr.
