GUM 15 / CR197 I have spent every spare minute for the past 4 days editing and re-editing this deep sky object. The result always appeared too soft with no sharp details within the nebulosity. I am not sure exactly why. Maybe I've stacked a few unfavourable sub frames.. Maybe it was the bad seeing conditions on the nights I imaged or poor collimation or all of the above, lol.. Oh well.. Gum15 is located in the constellation Vela. It is about 3000 light years from our Sun. I imaged mostly with the L-enhance filter but also added data with the CLS-CCD filter to try and capture as much if the reflection nebula as I could. Data: 🗓 8th 9th and 10th of February 2022 🕰 10hrs 50mins x 300sec subs, 100gain. 🔭 @skywatcheraustralia F5 750mm Newtonian 📷 ASI533 🕶 Filters: L-enhance and CLS-CCD 💻 APT, Phd2, Pixinsight, Stellarium, Sharpcap & Photoshop. Orion the Hunter is perhaps the best-known constellation in the sky, well placed in the winter for observers in both the northern and southern hemispheres, and instantly recognisable. Just below Orion's belt (three distinctive stars in a row), the hilt of his sword holds a great jewel in the sky, the beautiful Orion Nebula. Bright enough to be seen with the naked eye, the nebula, also known as Messier 42, is a wide complex of gas and dust, illuminated by several massive and hot stars at its core, the famous Trapezium stars. For astronomers, Orion is surely one of the most important constellations, as it contains one of the nearest and most active stellar nurseries in the Milky Way, the galaxy in which we live. Here tens of thousands of new stars have formed within the past ten million years or so - a very short span of time in astronomical terms. For comparison: our own Sun is now 4,600 million years old and has not yet reached half-age. Reduced to a human time-scale, star formation in Orion would have been going on for just one month as compared to the Sun's 40 years. This is my first attempt at processing Orion with data obtained by TelescopeLive’s Chi-1 observatory. ———————————— Dataset: Planewave CDK24 60cm F6.5 FLI ProLine PL9000 0.62 arcsec/px 60sec x 10 Ha 60sec x 10 OIII 60sec x 10 SII Edited in PixInsight - Denoise - Photoshop - Lightroom https://www.instagram.com/p/CXitMFZI_mZ/?utm_medium=tumblr

Reposted from @roycebairphoto presents a photo by @shelbydiamondstar N I G H T S C A P E R • Photo Award to MaryBeth Kiczenski Bond falls - the deepscape edition QUOTING MaryBeth: This is a project I've had in mind for a while. The Orion constellation and all its wonder colors rising over my favorite waterfall. It finally worked out (for the most part - a lot of atmospheric haze...) But I don't mind it too much in these landscape shots, since the stars are part of the overall scene. While these require quite a bit more work both in field and in post, I always end up loving the "zoomed in" view. Image acquired with a modified Nikon Z6 (Spencer's Camera) and Nikon 70-200mm lens. This is a panoramic image, as well, to get the entire field of view into the frame. • Please show support to our guest artists by visiting their IG gallery. TECHNIQUE & EXIF: Stacked / Tracked / Blend / Pano • Nikon Z6 (h-alpha modded) + Nikkor 70-200mm F/2.8FL lens on a SkyWatcher StarAdventuer tracking mount • Sky (Tracked) - mosaic of two panels - 3 images each for stacking. Integration and initial processing done in PixInsight • Foreground - mosaic of two panels - ISO 3200 - F/4 - 45-seconds • Entire pano put together in Photoshop and final edits done there, too. The Great Nebula in Orion - I finally feel like I'm getting the hang of this! I've been struggling for a while to get my telescopic astrophotos sharp while learning how to use a new camera and control it all via the computer. With this image I am starting to see the results of that hard work. There's still things to improve, but I'm very happy with this shot! I think it's my best telescopic astrophoto so far, and definitely my best photo of my favourite nebula! The next two weekends are going to (hopefully - weather pending) be intense astrophotography learning experiences as I travel out bush to learn from experts and mentors and some people I have looked up to for a while now! Hopefully you can look forward to continued improvements in my work :)M42 - The Orion NebulaCamera: ASI1600MC-C Telescope: 8“ f4 reflecting newtonian Mount: NEQ6 Guiding: Orion StarShoot Autoguider Control software: Sequence generator pro 12 5min exposures, 1hr totalBias and flat calibration frames used Edited in Pixinsight, Lightroom and Photoshop

From Earth Science Picture of the Day; May 17, 2018:
Running Man Nebula Photographer and Summary Author: Miguel Claro
The Running Man Nebula featured above at center was observed from the Cumeada Observatory, in Dark Sky Alqueva, Portugal. Referred to as NGC 1977, but popularly known as the Running Man Nebula, it's comprised of three nebulae; NGC 1973, NGC 1975, and NGC 1977. This complex is associated with Orion’s giant molecular cloud (The Great Nebula or M42), approximately 1,500 light-years away. The Running Man is found just half a degree north of this bright stellar nursery from our perspective.
Discovered by William Herschel in 1786, the Running Man suggest to many the shape of a man sprinting, with his huge arms in motion. His form is laced with faint red emission from hydrogen atoms and surrounded by a blue reflection region. Photo taken on March 18, 2018.
Photo Details: Nikon D810a camera; GSO RC8 F/8, 1624mm; Ritchey-Chrétien Astrograph Carbon Fiber Telescope; ISO 2000; 300 seconds x 16 lights exposure; Mount EQ6 Pro; total integration of 16 Lights - 80 minutes. Processing on PixInsight 1.8 and Photoshop CC. Taken from the Cumeada Observatory in the Dark Sky Alqueva Reserve, Reguengos de Monsaraz, Portugal.

Happy New Year everyone! We're starting off the year with Composite Week.. these are skies and foregrounds shot in different locations, or with different focal lengths, or different components of the image.. ---- Eric Benedetti at Stanley Lake — REPOST: @erictheastrojunkie from http://ift.tt/1WIhwba chosen by @tracyleephotos — MWC Admin: @tracyleephotos --- #milkywaychasers to be featured or post on http://ift.tt/1WIhwba. Tag a friend who might enjoy this Milky Way image and journey! --- From Eric about this image: --- COMPOSITE/TRACKED/STACKED http://ift.tt/2n748xS http://ift.tt/2hn1v9x I think that most people that know my work will be quick to jump on me for this, but Tracy Lee asked so here we go, a rare composite image I put together. I actually chose to pair these two shots because they aren't all that far off in terms of matching focal length, the sky is only about 10% larger than the foreground. The sky I shot back in 2016 and is a mosaic/pano of six panels, each panel is a stack of 8 exposures shot with a Nikon D600 and Rokinon 85mm on an iOptron Skytracker tracking mount. The stack of 8 exppsures includes 2 of each at 5 minutes, 4 minutes, 3 minutes, and 2 minutes at f2.5 and ISO 400. The foreground is a pano of 3 exposures shot with a Nikon D800E and Sigma Art 50mm (2 minutes, ISO 1600, f1.4), and subsequently cropped to better match the sky, taken at Stanley Lake, Idaho this year (and yes, the reflection of the Mountain is a real reflection, not just mirrored in post processing). It's tough to make these kinds of deep sky/terrestrial foreground composites look even remotely natural, I obviously don't get a lot of practice with it, but it's fun to try and test those PixInsight/Photoshop skills on something different. Hope everyone has a happy New Years! Can't wait to get back to shooting the core in a couple months so we don't have to do these silly edits. --- http://ift.tt/2EsbaqP

Ignacio Llorens‎ ruins of Castell d'Olivella --- REPOST: @qfwfq78 from http://ift.tt/2bp653g chosen by @tracyleephotos --- #startrailchasers to be featured or post on http://ift.tt/2bp653g. Tag a friend who might enjoy this Star Trail Image image and journey! --- From Ignacio about this image: --- Hello everyone... here's my first post. I hiked to the ruins of Castell d'Olivella in Garraf, near Barcelona on a beautiful moonless evening. It is one of the few reasonably dark skies you can find within 1 hour drive from the city center; possibly also the best if you want to shoot towards the south, as in this shot... This was during the very first hours of Apr 23rd, so Lyrid shower was past its peak, but I still got one decent meteor on frame. Hope you like it! --- Shot with Canon 1100D and Tokina 11-16 at iso400 f2.8 11mm, 226 shots of 60sec each, stacked with Pixinsight and edited in Photoshop --- http://ift.tt/2pxYtU6 http://ift.tt/2qlkQiK http://ift.tt/2pxCAED

Tried for a quick starless edit of the Lagoon Nebula but I do believe there are a few rogue stars that did not want to be ensnared by starnet... hehe.
Side note.. Moon is becoming a bit bothersome BUT it was a good run while it lasted :) Can not even complain about these amazingly clear nights!!! Target is a little awkward with my square sensor. Meh.

Rho Ophiuchus This is my longest exposure sequence yet, but it seems I still need more data on it! It's a very faint collection of nebulae, including some pronounced dark nebulae. They all surround the star Rho Ophiuchus, near Antares. There's clearly some noise, and softening of the fine wispy detail from noise reduction. That said, I'm pretty pleased with this effort, and I love the region with the delicate streamers of gas and dust around and between the stars.
