Reposted from @jpdpro_photography Did you enjoy the storms last night in south east Queensland? It was a bitter sweet start to the season for myself and many communities across the Darling Downs and Northern NSW. Unfortunately most of the storms were very dry leaving many farmers with little to no rain while most of the downpour occurred close to the coastline. As for myself I made the rookie error of leaving my umbrella at home and having no choice but to use the older Nikon and not risk the new Sony 😏. Nevertheless with the strike finder 2 mounted on top the D7100 was going strong and allowed me to capture this bolt as the storms raced out to sea. Overall it was really beautiful to see storms return and it gives us hope for the coming months. Reposted from @jpdpro_photography Well it's been a long time between drinks so to speak but here I am....tumour free 😊. Taking it step by step at this stage focusing on recovery after putting my body through the ringer for the last 5mths in chemotherapy and operation. Thankfully the latest scans have shown all those troublesome tumours gone. Sunday night I pushed myself to head out to Shelly Beach on the Sunshine Coast and have a red hot go at capturing my first images of the milky way core this season. Conditions were near perfect in the sky but I forgot to check the tides 🤦‍♂️. Huge waves were crashing along the rocky shelf and swallowing up most of the beach and access around the headland. Nevertheless I persevered and found myself a nice big rock to keep myself and equipment dry while I tried to remember how to take a photo 😂. I hope you like the end product and I look forward to being a little more active as I rebuild strength. Taken with the Sony A73 and Tamron 17-28mm lens. Reposted from @jpdpro_photography The most difficult conditions to shoot in usually involve strong winds. They rattle your tripod making long exposures all blurry and yuck. Mix those winds with rain and standing at the peak of a hill and bam your in a photography nightmare 😂. Oh don't forget this is all while holding an umbrella and trying to operate the camera whilst cleaning the water drops off the lens with a lens cloth that's deep in your right pocket, no wait left pocket, no 😑 I left it in the car 😂. You know your a storm chaser for life when, regardless of all these obstacles, you are still having the time of your life. Even when I'm on my own I still laugh out loud at the situation 😅. This image was taken during some severe south east sliding high precipitation storms on the Sunshine Coast. Thank you to my trusty Strike Finder 2 for helping a brutha out 🙏. Also known as the 22deg halo by scientists. It’s the result of an optical phenomenon caused by ice crystals. It’s often thought that halos were the sign an approaching storm, however not always the case. The famous Orion Nebula, the Horsehead and Flame Nebula and part of Barnard's Loop are coloring the sky in a stunning way. Deepscapes are an attempt to take landscape astrophotography to the next level. This image is not a digital art collage of an unrelated sky and foreground, but a real alignment. A snowshoe hike with a mobile deep sky imaging rig to a carefully planned site on a mountain slope was required to capture this scene. The foreground and RGB color image of the sky were captured with an astro-modified Canon EOS 6D and a 200mm lens.
