This morning's Waning Crescent Moonrise over Angel's Gate Lighthouse in San Pedro, CA on March 18, 2023 at 5:30 AM was so worth waking up early for! Photographed with @pxl8photography, @ryantorresphotography, @johnwillsund, and @terrydunlapphotography. Crescent Moon alignment found and planned with @planitphoto Pro. I like this picture a lot, because of the golden reflection of the Crescent Moon and the green reflection of the Angel's Gate Lighthouse! Thank God for this morning's clear skies, which we have not seen in a long time due to the consistently cloudy and rainy weather we have been getting lately. Unfortunately I could not line up the Moonrise perfectly this morning, so no Time Lapses for this one. My first deepscape of the winter season, and one that started with an unexpected twist.  I had planned a composition with a gnarly dead tree in the foreground and part of this multicolored mesa in the background.  However, when my father and I arrived on location just after sunset, more than a dozen vehicles were parked along the side of a road, and a full-blown movie production was taking place adjacent to my shooting spot, complete with a number of old-western-style sets/props, bright boom lights, and portable generators.  The lights were so bright that they were even (very unpleasantly) light painting the sandstone bluffs miles away. . With the movie set casting harsh light on my original scene, we scrambled down a nearby hillside in pursuit of darkness.  Without a backup composition arranged, I decided to leverage my original plan and put my background mesa up front and center.  I reframed the shot to strategically adorn the scene with a number of the Orion constellation’s most prominent nebulae.  While the belt stars slowly emerged from behind the mesa, I collected my static foreground shots.  Then, right as the Horsehead and Flame Nebulae emerged from behind the mesa, I activated my tracker and followed the sky for about an hour.  The film crew did eventually kill their lights for the evening, though it happened too late to pivot back to my original composition in time.  Maybe next time! #yourshotphotographer #nikonnofilter . Full Snow Moon next The Strat in Las Vegas, Nevada, as seen and photographed last night on February 5, 2023 at 5:33 PM! Full Moon alignment found at Cashman Park with @planitphoto. My original plan to line up the Full Moon with the tip of The Strat did not work out because of taller houses and trees in the foreground. So I found another spot with Planit Pro at the last minute and it all worked out well! So thankful to have won the Jackpot on this Vacation with this priceless Full Moon picture in Las Vegas, Nevada!
