Internet Drama and Real Life

Hello Tumblr, I never thought I'd have to make this sort of post before but lets get into it. First off: I'm very much neutral on the subject of the whole Proship or Anti-proship debacle. I'm not chronically online as most people are because I'm just not a big tumblr user. Second off: I've interacted with people who are on both sides of the debate. I'm friends with people who are on both sides of the debate. Does this change anything about me? No not really. Does this mean that I support proshippers? No. Does this mean that I support anti-proshippers? No. Does this mean that I just want to have fun with the people I interact with online and be friends with them? Yes. Somehow, within the last day or so, people within the whole UTMV fandom have gone from the simple mentality of "block and move on" to "doxxing and killing". Genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, what the fuck.

Reminder: This is petty internet drama. It's nothing to dox people over. If you truly believe that someone for having a different view point on the world needs to be violently hanged and killed, then you need to step back and look at the situation and what you're saying.

Doxxing someone, while not inherently illegal, is very immoral on various social media platforms. Multiple people on both sides of the debate, whether you're an "anti" or a "proship", don't want their personal information released online. Why would you do that? What's your end game there? By posting someone's private information with the intent to harass and make their life miserable, they can actually file a civil lawsuit against you. It's very, very easy to file a civil suit against someone else. There's also the various other legal ramifications such as violations of personal privacy, harassment, and if you're actually wanting to follow through on those threats of violence, cyberstalking. -----

Also before you come at me and say "oh, you're neutral, you support proshitters", that doesn't make you look like the good guy man. Burnt Bread discourse rlly went up in flames today so here’s my take

Proshipping is a word that really has no coherent meaning whatsoever. People who self identify with the term can’t agree on what it means, and people who accuse others of being proshippers or calling certain ships proship can’t agree what it means. Accusing someone of being a proshipper or shipping a proship is the fandom moral panic equivalent of calling somebody “woke”. What does woke mean? Who fucking knows. Just say what you actually mean.

(Quick edit to say that I am not a fan of the large majority of people who identify as proshippers and this is not me defending them. I’m just trying to say that the definition of the word can easily be bent to fit a narrative.)

I preface my argument with this because this is why Burnt Bread was called a proship by that one person. It personally makes them uncomfortable so they threw a buzzword on it to make everyone who likes the ship look like a creep.

Aran Ryan and Glass Joe, going solely off of canon, are not a problematic ship. Aran is 23. Joe is 38. Aran Ryan is old enough to drive, smoke cigarettes, and drink. He is a grown man. Joe is ALSO a grown man, just an older one. We don’t know if they’ve ever even met in canon, so there’s no argument to be made about grooming or predation bc for all we know these two may have never spoken to each other.

This isn’t to say that older adults don’t abuse younger adults, because they absolutely can. But age gaps between adults aren’t problematic within themselves (assuming that they both met as adults & there was no grooming involved). I won’t name drop him, but I watch a YouTuber who was severely financially abused by his ex when he was 23 and they were 28. Which is a much smaller age gap than Joe and Aran, and that person has made the poor dude’s life a living hell since they broke up. Abusers CHOOSE to be abusers. It isn’t inherent with age.

I’m younger than Aran Ryan, and dating someone my own age, so I don’t really have much of a personal stake in this matter. So I’ll leave you off with the video I think about every time this discourse comes up. It’s about two queer people in an age gap relationship (like Joe and Aran - although ofc Joe and Aran are both men and these people are husband & wife) and the wife’s view and outlook on her relationship with her significantly older husband. It’s pretty eye opening and gives you a lot of insight into why someone may choose to enter a relationship with someone much older than themselves. Their age gap is also more than double the Burnt Bread age gap, and the gap is almost as many years as Joe is old, so like… it’s a good demonstration that age gap relationships between adults can be healthy, and do exist in real life - they’re not a fandom strawman

As expected, I received my first ever hate message after talking about the situation with "antis" attacking whump community members. The "proship"/"anti-proship" debate has been around for fucking ages, and I'm personally sick of it, but I thought this would be a good teachable moment for any younger/less-internet-savvy folks here.

This ^ is trolling. Whether they believe everything they said or not, ultimately their goal was to rile up emotions and cause friction. Having been on the internet a good, long time (my main blog is from like 2009, y'all), I have seen my fair share of trolls. I've fallen for a few, too. It's inevitable. But to save your sanity and help you all deal with users like this, I've decided to share this message and break down the clues that told me it's not worth interacting with.

Yellow Highlights: What I've highlighted in yellow are the "scare words," I'll call them. They're flinging the most extreme, most obscene terms they can think of at the situation, even if it doesn't fit, because they're trying to scare me in to either complying or arguing. Nobody looks good if they're "arguing for" incest or pedophilia. They're setting up a no-win situation where my position looks absurd and unsupportable. Edit to add: my position, by the way, is that you can write/make whatever you want as long as you tag it appropriately and post it where it abides by the Terms of Service, which my friend did. I do not support censorship of any kind. I didn't think it needed to be said but I don't "support" real life pedophilia and incest, either. No one does, including my friend who was banned. That's a nonsense claim.

Blue Highlights: I referred to the specific user who got banned by his preferred pronouns in my original post. I exclusively used he/him, multiple times. By using she/her in this message, I know this user isn't arguing in good faith because either A) they didn't read my post clearly and think it's about someone else, or B) they're intentionally misgendering my friend. You cannot argue with someone who isn't approaching in good faith.

Green Highlights: This anon says that "we" don't claim the user I mentioned as a part of the whump community and that "[he's] not even doing "whump" anymore." Here we have a logical fallacy: that user doesn't belong here because they're "not a real whump writer." They've essentially made up a rule to exclude this person, and that justifies (to them) how that person was treated. (Who is "we," by the way? Anon is implying that they are aligned with the majority of the community, thus threatening to place me as an outsider.)

Purple Highlights: Blatantly ableist rhetoric towards someone who presumably has Dissociative Identity Disorder. As above, they're trying to justify why it's okay to bully and harass someone off the platform. "People do not need to see that." Nonsense. We don't exclude anyone from the community on the basis of their disability. Once again, Anon is not engaging in good faith.

Orange Highlight: Finally, their closing line feels like a threat. They claim that this user should have expected to be harassed, even that they deserved it. They imply that being banned/reported automatically implies guilt, regardless of the fact we know tumblr staff is less than charitable regarding bans--especially with queer and disabled users, and double especially anyone who posts any kind of remotely mature content (like your standard whump fare). We all remember waves of transfem users being banned out of the blue this year, as well as anyone sticking up for them. It happens all the time. I also mentioned in my original post that this user had been mass reported multiple times which led to his bans, which I think the gravity of is missed here. He was targeted, multiple times, by a ton of people falsely accusing him of breaking Terms of Service. Mass reports are rarely trustworthy, imho, and especially not if they happen to the same user multiple times. You know what most folks do if they don't like a person's content or behavior? They block them and move on. Maybe a single, accurate report if it seems necessary, but a reasonable person should never sic their followers on other users to mass report or harass. It's bad internet etiquette, and it has been for decades. The golden rule of the internet: if you don't like someone, block them and move on! If it sucks, HIT DA BRICKS!

And that's why I did not respond directly to this anonymous message. Nothing in its content gave me any indication that Anon and I could have a real conversation and gain an understanding of one another. I hope this helps some of you deal with any potential hateful messages you receive. The goal, above all, is to push you to an emotional high and make you have an angry outburst on them. That's what trolls feed off of. And if there's one thing being on the internet for longer than some of you have been alive has taught me: don't feed the trolls. Do not engage. Do not argue. Delete or block, and move on as much as possible. Turning off anonymous asks (or asks in general!) is always okay. Remember: you alone control your internet experience. You curate what you do and don't want to see and what kind of interactions you allow. Blocking is always an option. Turning off replies is always an option. Filtering tags is always okay. Be better than these folks, and remember you are in control of what you see and do--but you cannot control anyone else.

Side note: I did get a very lovely message from someone (who I will not name to prevent harassment) showing me support and being really kind, so that 1000% makes up for shitty messages like this.

I don't know if i can ever forgive antis for running so many artists off the internet because they found them gross. There are so many artists that come to mind but one that sticks with me the hardest is Columbo who was literally ran off Twitter for the most vile reason. I often see tiktok artists redraw that one Monster fanart of Johan and Nina that Columbo made. This was what pushed me to watch the anime in the first place and I get so sad when I remember what happened. They deliberately tried to ruin the artist's life and outed them knowing that this could get them killed. They wanted them DEAD over DRAWINGS. The length some would go to ruin someone's life is terrifying and so fucked up.

Don't even get me started on doxxing. At what point in your sorry little life do you decide to dig someone's private info and leak it to the whole world. And still claim to be more righteous than another ?

Not to mention those who harmed themselves or committed suicide because of harrassment.

I remember how a 13yo artist on twitter committed suicide because of the harrassment they faced (Not proship related). You know what those bastards did ? Went to their last post and filled it with nothing but mockery. They were editing the comic to make amogus jokes. A 13yo child.

I blocked and reported over 700 and yet there was still more. I've never felt so sick in my entire life. They had just gotten the confirmation that they pushed a child to suicide and their immediate reaction was to laugh about it. They killed a child and they laughed ?

This isn't even the first time this happened and I think that's pretty much what made me realize that antis (or just internet fiends in general) didn't actually give a shit about anyone else or the content that they "hate" in general, they just use it as an excuse to show how vile they truly are because what sane person would do that ? So i got a thought of insomniac Reader who may as well stay awake for who knows how long being somewhat terrified of sleeping.

He may be plagued by nightmares of some kind, having a fear of not simply waking up anymore or possibly just too many thought that run rampant and he can't keep them still enough.

Just lying in bed with both the men as they either sleep or one or both are still awake and try to help him. But they have a little time window sometimes which means Reader may be alone most of the time and left with his own thought more than they'd like to let him.

Thinking how he'll greet them when they wake up to a case and come back just working as normally as he can manage both of them seeing how the lack of sleep is dripping off if the man.

I think both of them be dragging the poor man to bed one at a time if he starts wandering bc he's restless as fuck.

The one time they actually hear about him sleeping when on a case is when Jessica, Hotch's Sister-in-law (is it ex?-sister-in-law bc Hayley's dead? Idk may be), comes to pick up Jack.

The silence in the house was uncanny, it felt displaced as Jack wandered around the house he called home. It was usual for him to see one of his dad's wondering around mumbling to himself about something he never could catch as Aaron and Derek had left for another case.

The boy knew it wasn't exactly normal for him to be in a house of silence. Wandering to the master bedroom door, he slowly and lightly opened the door with a creek.

It didn't do anything to alert the man inside as all the boy heard were soft snores. Otherwise the room was completely silent, sun pouring in and dappling spots on the bed and the covers where he could see a imprint of a person splayed on the bed, spotting strands of (h/c) hair on the head that was slightly tucked under the covers.

The morning was silent as Jessica opened the door, looking around lightly and calling out to Jack and Reader. Nothing came of it as no answer was heard, wandering inside the house for a little bit she found the master bedroom's door ajar.

The view of seeing her nephew hugging a body of one of the lovers of Aaron was adorable, just laying besides him and making a shushing motion towards her as she called out Jack's name. The boy understood that R had difficulties sleeping and he didn't want him to wake up yet, it was unknown go R if that was the reason Jack staid with him or not. Just guarding, bc he had heard Jessica tell about a fly that the boy was trying to slap out of the air when it came too close at least once.

Except that yet turned into sleeping three days with R regretting everything. At least he could have been blessed with some pictures of the scene or a possible stuffed animal or two besides him bc Jack didn't want him to be alone when he woke up.

I really think the boys all of them would do something small for R to try to help him. Doing subtly things that would not irritate him if he was known to be really easy to be irritated when lacking a lot of sleep.

Jack would absolutely share his studies with him, saying they'd scare off the nightmares or thoughts if R had ever answered a question from the boy on why he was up. Not that R would take them, he'd give them back at the end of the day saying it's important that they're protecting Jack instead of him and stressing about it to the boy. But he does not hear it.

I think R would be doing things out of boredom at night when he's restless and doesn't feel comfortable cuddling with Aaron and Derek for the moment. Were it baking, maybe crocheting, crafting or doing something else if R is handy enough and there's something to fix he could do it, he would do it to pass time.

Don’t worry I’m very well educated, my gripe with proshippers isn’t the fact that they make art/write stories depicting dark topics like incest, rape, grooming etc. it’s the fact the vast majority of those who call themselves proshipper/profic etc. sexualises and romanticises these kind of topics. 

You can very much draw art or write stories about fucked up shit like a kid getting sexually groomed by an adult or someone getting SA’d by a relative. It’s all about how to approach these topics that is important, and that we do not engage with these dark and awful subjects in a way that is disrespectful to those who have been through things like SA, grooming or incest etc.

It is very obvious (to me at least) when someone is writing a story about a kid getting SA’d to actually TELL a story involving this in a way that doesn’t dismiss, sexualise and/or romanticise the trauma that SA victims went through and when someone is writing SA to get their own rock off.

I understand that some antis out there are very reactionary when it comes to dealing with or debating with proshippers. I’m anti harassment and anti proship, I keep my distance from you lot because again you guys have a tendency to look at dark topics and go “uuuu that’s so cute/hot!!” and as a grooming victim that makes me uncomfortable. Just because some antis are being stupid and harassing proshippers doesn’t mean that being anti-proship/profic automatically makes you inherently pro-harassment and pro-censorship.

Today, I posted a video on YouTube talking about the Object Show ships I hate, as I've seen many other people do the same. The opinions expressed in the video, I stand behind strongly. Most ships in the video which I dislike are Proships. (EX: Steve Cobs x MePhone4) I dislike them for this purpose, as shipping abusive relationships, family, and minors x adults is disgusting.

I then scroll through shorts for a while, proud for posting today instead of putting it off to tomorrow. And, I come across a Bluey edit. I smile, because I find Bluey a very fun show, despite it being 'childish'.

I notice something is off. The audio is speaking of how someone doesn't know of a sexual relationship. (I can't find the song, and I will edit this if I find it) I find this peculiar, as Bluey is made for children. And, this isn't even the last of it. The edit is directly implying that Bingo (a 4 year old CHILD) and Uncle Rad (Speculated to be a 38-40 year old MAN) are having a sexual relationship.

THIS IS FUCKING GROSS. NOT ONLY BECAUSE THAT IS SEXUALIZING OF A MINOR, BUT BECAUSE THEY ARE IN THE SAME FAMILY.

To assure this wasn't some disgusting shit post, I went onto the channel to investigate.

ALL OF THESE VIDEOS MADE ME PHYSICALLY PUKE.

Under most of these videos, the comments are turned off, or there are none. But the videos WITH comments...MAKE ME FEAR FOR THIS FUCKING GENERATION.

They state things such as: "You're so brave for this!" "So real! <3" and "I love this ship!"

IT MAKES ME GAG THAT THIS MANY PEOPLE THINK ITS OKAY TO SHIP FAMILY- AND EVEN MINORS WITH MINORS, OR MINORS WITH ADULTS.

I watch Bluey in a little headspace, yet, I can not fully regress- Also known as a Semi-regressor. Therefore, big thoughts are always sort of there. THIS EDIT IS ALWAYS GOING TO SIT IN THE BACK OF MY BRAIN WHERE I TRY TO COPE.

Sure, it doesn't speak on the Bluey fandom, but still explains that this is NOT OKAY.

Saw the Greenflame post and wanted to put my two cents in.

I agree with you that they work better as siblings. That Kai is more of an older brother figure to Lloyd as he is to Nya. I do not personally ship them, and I never will.

However, I don't think bashing people who DO ship it is a good idea. The ship itself, in my eyes, isn't problematic. Yes, Kai knew Lloyd as a kid, but it was very brief, and Lloyd is now mentally of age, so he can make those kinds of decisions for himself.

Do I ship it? No.

Do I think it should be canon? Fuck no!

But do I think it's okay to ship and okay to like? Yeah, as long as Lloyd is of age, both mentally and physically.

I just feel like communities, not just Ninjago, need to stop biting each other's faces off just for liking ships that others do not. Unless it's like a proship, which in this case it's not.

Again, this is my opinion, my two cents. You are entitled to yours, and I just wanted to step into the ring.

Honestly, that's completely valid and I might be overreacting a little bit. I know that some greenflame anti's have sent like... death threats... to greenflame shippers and I would never go that far.

I just think that it's a weird situation. Like... imagine you are sixteen and you meet a nine year old and then like... you start dating. Granted, there's tea aging and stuff that wouldn't happen in real life but still. Knowing someone when they're that young and then like... being with them? It just seems so icky to me. ESPECIALLY when some people who ship greenflame use moments from when Lloyd was young to prove their points. (Not all greenflame shippers do this, but I have seen some who do).

Again, I know I'm probably being a little dramatic about this, but at the end of the day, I'm not going to threaten someone or tell them they're not a real fan if they ship it. I would just prefer that people who ship greenflame maybe not interact with me about that specific ship. It makes me suuuper uncomfortable. Especially since as a young kid I was exposed to some very uhm... adult?? artwork of them.

I guess I didn't mean to bash the people who ship the ship as much as I meant to bash the ship itself and I can see now why it seemed like I was bashing the people, so thank you for bringing that to my attention. I appreciate it and will do better from now on! /gen

Despite this blog's rage filled birth, I want this to be a positive space for radqueers, proshippers, and paraphiles. As someone who's cis auDHD, BIID, chronic pain, ASPD, NPD, (I am not beating the BPD allegations, so uh, adding BPD to the list of cisIDs), intersex, POC, plural, and disabled, all transIDs are welcome here. I do not give a damn if you're transautistic or transintersex. It is simply not my problem. If anything, it's comforting to know that there are people who want to be like me, and I welcome you all with open arms. <2 As for being pro para and proship: I am both a paraphile and proship, myself. I do not care what people do in fiction... again, it is not my problem. I am multiple of the 'bad' paraphilias, so I know what it's like to go fucking everywhere and see hatred thrown at you for something you cannot help. I know what it's like to be written off as a child/animal abuser, and shunned from seemingly inclusive spaces. I want this blog to be reprieve from that. I want to provide peace to those like myself, who are just trying to live without the morality police shoving their foot up our asses.
