Every time I look at fanarts of TID I have to take a deep breath because some of the clothes aren't completely period accurate, so I wanted to try to draw them with more accurate dresses.

Charlotte did not take as long as I expected, probably because I always imagined her style in a more simple and elegant style.

I used Cassandra Jean's design for the gear and tried to adjust it a bit following the Codex's information about older versions of the female gear having a skirt, but I just decided to make that padding around the abdomen and hips longer and simulate a skirt (but not too long to not reduce the mobility), whereas the male gear would be shorter and the way that Cassandra Jean did it.

Little Miss Barbie x Regina George (1878 Edition)

Jess was a bit more complicated because she does care about her appearance more and has a more intricate style. And normally I try to not add a lot of detail with Victorian characters because Queen Victoria didn't like makeup and found it vulgar, so women usually went for a natural look. Jessamine paints her dark circles whereas Charlotte naturally has them for obvious reasons. ☠️

Low-key, I loved doing Jessamine's ghost form.

And please let's not talk about my strange doodling attempt with the electrum lace design on the parasol. Halfway through it I started telling myself Henry is not a fashion designer and he tried his best to mimic a lace design with the electrum and hide some runes for her protection.

I will be honest, I struggled with the color of the dress because I do not imagine Cecily with a plain color dress, but not too intricate as Jessamine's. Everything looked too blue at first and I switched so many colors until it ended up like that. And don't get me started on the hair... It felt ✨WRONG✨ to give her a historically accurate hairstyle considering everyone gives her straight hair down.

So in my head her hair IS straight, she just has to appropriately wear it up. But nothing too complicated. And it's worth mentioning my memory is starting to blur out a lot. I had to check her wiki for the weapon and whatnot, and I found that she was petite and thin. In my head she was about Tessa's height. But I barely remember a lot from the books by now.

But I did try to make her look closely similar to Will. And I think she does look like a female, better, version of him. Also, if you're wondering why she's not wearing the necklace: I didn't realize I didn't add it until I finished coloring the dress and by that point I was so sick of it I left it like that. I had the sketch of the necklace, I just forgot to put it with the dress. 🫠

The suits might discourage me from doing the men because there's not really much difference aside of small details of how each man wears it. But anyway... Back to Sophie.

The damn maid dress. It's simple. It is ten times simpler than Jessamine's dress and YET I was struggling with it. And don't get me started on the scar.

The wiki said it was a big, silver, scar on the left side of her face from the corner of her mouth to her temple. I had an existential crisis trying to figure out how to do it, because in the other set ups of these drawings, I depict them like they're facing me, so the portrait wouldn't have shown the scar.

And it's a problem because I also suck at drawing scars. The first try looked fine but it wasn't silver, then I did this and in one part I guess it's fine because I didn't want to make a pretty scar when it's supposed to be bad and shocking for the time period. But a part of my brain thinks it looks like the fungus from The Last of Us. ☠️

Anyways. You may be wondering, "why didn't you do the Shadowhunter gear?" And it's a simple answer... I wanted to see her in a pretty dress. Of course, I could have done the portrait with the maid dress, the middle with her fancy dress, and the second full-body drawing with the gear but I didn't think about that until 10 minutes before posting. 🫠 And that gear is COMPLICATED (Not really, I'm just tired after the dresses).

Cody Jones is a werewolf theory

not the first one to come up with this i first read it here and here but i felt like they left some details out so i wanted to make a small archive of all we know

We know Cody is a dhampir (ch5p281) son of Davy Jones and Shrike (ch8p47) secret vampire overlord and Cousinhood's prime monster hunter, who faked her death to avoid killing her former pupil, but was bitten by him one night and now roams has a werewolf trying to reunit with her family on full moon nights (ch8p49)

This is what Cody has deduced out of his mom's diary and father's actions. But what information does he lack?

1.Shrike's "death"

We don't know how she "died" but: it was on full moon (Jean was transformed), they had to see her corpse (Jean is extremely sure she died), they were SO sure she couldn't survive that they didn't look up for bite marks.

When Jean remembers Shrike she lacks any scars, but when we finally see her in picture she looks like she survived a mauling (this could also be just the artstyle)

Shrike was "killed" by Jean, her body in such a bad condition she "couldn't have survived", but since she was bitten she could.

2.Her diary

she kept track of 3 things: Cody's milestones, her cousinhood apprentice and the phases of the moon (ch8p49) why those 3 specifically on the same diary?

she never wrote what happened when it got full. Only the aftermath, like she couldn't know what happened.

"bigger every full moon, stronger than the strongest i've fought" but that can't be Jean. (ch7pg63) (ch7p65) he has to be average.

we can asume she was speaking of herself. and the him can be either Cody or Jean. She kept track on Jean and Cody's symptons as well as herself.

3. Cody's symptons

so Shrike survived, became a werewolf and had Cody, making him part vampire part werewolf. But how can we know ? (ch8p46)

what else could supress all of vampirism weakness if not it's only predator? (ch8p49)

(Edit: he says he heals twice as fast as him too I forgot to add that part.)

Cody "sleepwalked out of curfew" and found his dad with claw marks, he thinks it was his mom but we kow those are way too little to be hers.

Not only that, Cody's room is a vault. (Ch8p47)

because he is a treasure (ch8p50)

so Cody is a werewolf but doesn't know it because when he transforms he's locked in his house, where light doesn't penetrate. But the full moon doesn't seem to be the only way a werewolf can transform

4.the heart

“So daddy dearest used his hook to split my body from my heart, and put it where he said it would be safe—right next to his!”

why though? Cody thinks this was out of malice in some way, and yeah it could. But Davy's a control freak, what better way to keep control of your werewolf child than knowing when his hearth starts racing?

Davy wants to keep Cody safe, a big theme in Paranatural is how adults try to shield kids from the hard truths of the world, and hide those from them which indirectly hurts them more.

If we assume the moonless sky isn't for Shrike but specifically for Cody a lot of Davy's lines make a lot more sense. Now on the last topic.

6.Davy's powers

were/wolf, wouldn't be that easy? why hasn't he tried that?

-she has Cody with Davy, she keeps track of his evolution has a vampire-werewolf hybrid, her transformations worse every month and tries to find a cure

-we get wereShrike and human Shrike is either dead or god knows were

-Cody transforms every full moon and Davy hides this from him

-Davy gets his hearth to keep track of his transformations

-either Cody finds it or Davy let's him find Shrike's past and gets the wrong idea

-Davy tries to make his moonless sky to keep Cody safe.

👾🐊🎀👑 Their designs/appearances:

👾 Eevee wears a long purple coat, it's like his trademark. Depending on the day and time, he wears fancy attire (a shirt and a vest) or some cozy clothes under it. Fancy attire because he works as a freelance creative developer and often meets with game developers/studios. (I will go in depth about this in a different post :3). He wears his glasses most of the time and is surprised when he finds out Brent wears glasses as well.

🐊 Brent in this AU is known for a style that reminds of high school nerds in a way but not too much. He wants to look tidy and neat but without being over the top. However, he doesn't care about any of that when he takes his night shifts. He has a scar slightly above his right elbow, which he got when he was a child. The scar is the result of playing on the playground as a kid and happened because of a clumsy-childish accident. It is actually a fond memory of his family and happy childhood for him. The scar reminds him there used to be easier and brighter days in his life. He mostly wears dark blue and green clothes, the cold tones being a huge contrast to Vernias' bright colours. Vern likes to call him "The Grumpy Barista" or simply "Robot" because of his behaviour and demeanour. (I forgot he wears glasses irl lmao.) He wears his glasses when he really has to and sometimes when he takes the night shifts.

🎀 Vernias has pink hair that grows out noticeably but makes him stand out. He therefore often gets called "the pink Barista" or "the Kirby Barista" and he loves it. He wears a pastel pink shirt under his apron, which he never irons (Brent hates to see it). Casually he wears tank tops and loose pants. Vernias has a burn scar on his left arm, it's not too big but noticeable and it happened in his early days as a barista; when he burnt himself on a freshly brewed coffee by being too hectic. He also has a tiny scar on his left index finger from the metal of the coffee machine (he has no idea how it happened). Vern is just a bit too clumsy. (Edit: Vernias wears pins on his apron!! A bi flag, a cute little Kirby that adds to his nickname "the Kriby Barista" and some stars that swing around loosely ^^ This was @whenshetcnickonmy3 's idea and I love it so much! Vernias also gave Brent a pin! Here is their Design for them!💛)

👑 Nick likes to be flamboyant. He has a style that is a perfect balance between elegant, fierce and laid-back. He likes to draw attention and always walks with a certain confidence only he can harbour. He definitely stands out and it's exactly what he wants and also kind of craves. He sometimes wears his sunglasses, even when he is in a building/in the cafe. He only wears his normal glasses when situations require him to and wears more cozy clothes when he is at home.

👾🐊🎀👑 First impressions of each other:

👾 Eevee:

- he didn't like Brent's vibe at all. Brent seemed so down all the time. Met at the Cafe.

- Eevee made it his secret mission to make Brent laugh or even just smile (which he learns looks and sounds adorable and warms his heart) he really likes the sight of seeing Brent happy.

- Eevee and Vern got along immediately, Vern kinda thought he was intimidating at first sight, but as soon as Eevee started to speak, they both shared a cheerful mood. They also met at the Cafe.

- Nick and Eevee have been friends since high-school, but actually hated each other in elementary school and bullied one another. They laugh about those memories nowadays and have a very good friendship.

🐊 Brent:

- Eevee was annoying at first. Not in the way of bothering you, no. Eevee was annoying because he said the most random and stupid shit - and Brent liked it. Something about Eevee fascinated and yet irritated him from the start.

- Brent and Vern (many of you described them as Squidward and SpongeBob and I ??? (⁠ ⁠╹⁠▽⁠╹⁠ ⁠) ??? - Idk if that's a good thing?) Brent's first expression of Vernias was actually positive, even though Brent didn't show it and appeared to be slightly repulsed by him. But his act faded quickly within their first conersation. Vern had an aura to him that was actually charming and helped Brent to loosen up faster than he normally would. (...he normally doesn't.) And while Brent seemed annoyed, they actually balanced each other out nicely and became a great duo in a remarkable short amount of time. Vern always tried his best to create a good mood and lighten Brent up a little, but he also stayed polite and gave him space when Brent wasn't feeling it, which Brent secretly was and is always grateful for.

- Brent and Nick clashed at first. It wasn't too bad, it was just that they couldn't really communicate with each other well. But there has always been a silent mutual understanding in a way both of them don't quite understand till this day.

🎀 Vernias:

- He saw Brent and immediately asked himself "what an awful life did this man live until this point?" Because Brent looked like a tired cat that didn't care about anything anymore. Vern didn't know how to handle Brent at first, but he tried his best and acted nice yet polite towards Brent in the first shifts they shared together. (Vernias was the one who showed Brent everything and trained him and such, like Brent was his trainee.)

- Eevee came into the Café for the first time since Vern starting working there, and Vernias thought he was getting robbed. (Cuz Eevee wore a huge-ass grin and his purple coat just stands out.) But then Eevee just stumbled over his words as he tried to order something way too sweet, and Vern immediately knew the guy was chill. Vern randomly dropped "purple suits you really well!" Before Eevee left the cafe. He thinks about this random compliment he gave Eevee everyday.

- Vernias had mixed feelings when he saw Nick for the first time. He had noticed Nick in the streets many times before, but when Nick entered the Café for the first time when Vernias had an early shift, Vern was frustrated by how Nick carried himself all high and mighty. And then Nick acted like he was the ruler of the town and the owner of the shop, leaning on the counter and pulling his sunglasses down slightly to look directly into Vernias' eyes. Bi panic endured for some seconds, but he registered the order that also sounded like an order. "I get a large cappuccino with three sugar and almond milk." And Vernias was between the thoughts of 'you can get a slap in the face and the hell out of my Café' and 'you can get a kiss and everything you want, King'.

👑 Nick:

- Eevee is his ride or die. He hates and loves the dude but Nick depises the fact that Eevee does not seem to know the meaning of the terms "privacy" and "boundaries". They bullied each other in elementary school but are inseparable since high-school. They spend a little less time together in real life nowadays, but are still best friends. Though Nick sometimes wants to hit Eevee on the head.

- Like i mentioned, him and Brent didn't really get along at first but shared a silent connection and mutual understanding. Both of them were(are) secretly tired but act differently about it. They frowned at each other on their first encounter.

- Vernias was looking way too cheerful for his taste - and the fact that he was also behaving so cheerful was not helping. He ordered his cappuccino casually and Vernias just smiled at him brightly and nodded very fast, before humming a tune as he turned his back to Nick to prepare his drink. Also Nick thought Vernias' voice was way too loud (maybe because it was early in the morning, but Nick kept the impression that Vern speaks a little too loud for his taste and hearing) Vernias left a special impression on Nick – very special. The kind of special that makes you think about their smile in random moments before shaking your head.

I really like this comic/Rimworld series, so I decided to make the Mechanitor's Message cast by @pushing500 in HeroForge!

First up is Mechi!

We got his classic shirt and duster combo here, as well as a side profile. I tried to get the nose and facial features as close to the drawings as possible with what HeroForge is capable of. Unfortunately HeroForge doesn't have a lot of long hair options that still show off the forehead, so this was as close as I could get.

Next is Mechi's fancy royal outfit complete with, gasp, shoes. Also he has his prosthetic arm and eye! (and the leg but it's not visible)

Then we got some casual versions of his outfit so I can show off the arm and leg prosthetics! He has a tattoo, but unfortunately HeroForge doesn't have a tech tattoo so it's just the curly vines one.

Double unfortunate that HeroForge doesn't have spine prosthetics, so I just picked the spine scar and colored it white. OK, Kwahu time!

This was really easy since I just had to make a copy of Mechi's outfits. We love clones here.

It's not very often that I upload my drawings, but I just finished this piece and I am extremely proud of it. I wanted to try something different but I just didn't know what, so I went on one of those drawing prompt websites and it gave me a really angsty prompt with different shades of purple for a colour palette and just from that alone I knew I had to draw RE5 Jill.

I'm just PRAYING I manage to keep this art style because I somehow seem to change it without realising... I need some consistency when it comes to my drawings lmao

I did change up some of the design inspo for Hero; I’m not really happy with how I drew him (tho to be fair this was mostly trying to brainstorm designs for fun TvT), but also I feel like Mari would’ve been less of Hero’s equivalent of Omori, and more like a Something, if that makes sense! I was trying to keep Mari out of the designs to make it painfully obvious that she’s completely and utterly gone lol

Oh yeah, Madness tumblr, I wanted to write a quick post since I think at least some people would be interested in this idea.

Basically, real simple idea, quick mod, it'll be up on the steam workshop upon completion.

I wanna add some top surgery scars to M:PN. They'll come in the form of body textures (naturally), and be available to throw onto your arena character (or any character, for that matter), inside the loft mirror or through the use of madcard character editing.

I just need someone to draw the textures for me, everything else will be handled by me (namely porting, and some necessary internal code jargon you don't need to worry about.)

The textures will be edits of the main grunt texture.

Here's a few custom body textures that I had made for me a few years ago. Should provide adequate reference to know where the chest area is on these guys. Note it's slightly off to the left, because Krinkels is bad at UV unwraps.

If anyone's interested, you can get the textures to me through discord, or just reply or reblog this post. You'll be credited in the steam workshop upload.

✨ Hiatus Complete ✨ The sun still shines in shadow. 🪷

Hello, internet world. I think I am finally ready to come back to this space. A sixteen week break is a long time and I appreciate everyone giving me the space and time for quiet experiencing some intense personal hardship, back to back. While I haven’t fully finished resuming my progress, a lot of good editing has been accomplished; I hope to post at least six new chapters of ABOTAR by the end of the year. Tomorrow is the first Anniversary of this rewrite of Tamlin’s story. It’s been quite the journey and I’m so glad I’ve embarked on it. The fandom has changed both for me personally and for everyone. I struggled to accept that for a while, but focusing on my own original writing and seeing good things come out of TamlinWeek was encouraging.

A lot of times, I wish that I could solve the problems of everyone and it can make me both a perfectionist and a people pleaser. If I struggle to stand up to someone or encounter confrontation, it tends to be a huge roadblock for me. It makes me doubt myself. I am still learning to stay true to myself and respect other people while not sacrificing my peace.

This is a challenge no matter where you are in life. I’m just glad to be on the journey.

I think now that I’m back from hiatus, I think it’s finally time to make a reintroduction post, a blog intro, and master list of my works.

I have a lot of exciting things coming during the rest of the year! I’m so thankful for those who stuck around during my long absence and the new followers who have joined me recently. Those who comment on and reblog and add tags to my work genuinely make my day. People online expressing interest and appreciation in the thing I love to do is often a balm for my inner critic. I save these comments to come back to on rainy days.

very outdated now but i just got recommended on youtube the vod of that mcc when Etho played for the first time with Scott, Scar and Shane and they all dressed up as Etho for the event, and well, back then i made those skins as a joke on twitter and scott dm'd me to see if i had the files, which i gave to him (they took like 5 minutes to make, it was just copy-pasting so i had no problem on giving away some free skins lol)

the thing is, i didn't add the headband when copy-pasting etho's outfit on everyone else and it happens that scar might have wanted to wear the headband so he edited the skin himself (i'm assuming) and forgot to change the arm color later lmao

that's it, now i'm not the only one with that knowledge

ANOTHER EDIT: A lot of people are concerned about if there are a limited number of slots. Edited the Kamado squad to fit into my Douma adopted Zenitsu au.

In order here is what I changed.

Zenitsu: he is darker in appearance, becoming blasian. He usually is wearing the butterfly girls uniform except in a deep purple, Douma somehow found it for him. He is very sickly from annoyingly eating humans but he's just as cowardly and annoying (lovingly)

Inosuke: he has a bruise on his right eye from him and Zenitsu fighting all the time, he has a bruise on his left arm from fighting with the wild animals on the mountains. He has some scars from fighting. One on his lip, one on his right wrist another on his left arm and the least notable one is his pointer finger on his right hand.

Tanjiro: nothing much changed, he has prayer beads that he wears as bracelets and one that he wears as an earring. These were gifted by Gyomei he also paints his nails pink so his sister won't get insecure about her claws being such a weird pinky color.

Nezuko: her claws are more of a pinky color, she has prayer beads as a necklace and bracelets. Her eyes are more cat-like and like her demon form. She also has an earring.

Kanao: one of her bangs is colored a light pink to a dark pink, also her hair is a gradient going from black to a light pink all the way back to a dark pink. She has freckles, they're mostly on her face but she does get some on her elbows her knees and her knuckles. Her bottom lip is more prominent.

Aoi: same as Kanao except she doesn't have colored hair, she does have a lot less freckles than her since she stays inside. She has eye bags from constantly overworking and calluses on her fingers. In this au she is a travel nurse and is usually with the water hashira since once he doesn't really like taking care of himself.

Mui: He meets Tanjiro and genya a lot earlier and gets his spark back, he paints his nails black.

Genya: I forgot to add it but he has prayer beads that he doesn't take with him a lot since he treasures them. He has earrings that are supposed to look like his brother's eye color, he has a gap tooth and in his human form he has both his fangs and his claws. They're just permanently on him after he transformed the first time.

This is going to be my worst post to date (in my opinion)

But after the anguish and turmoil that has hit Balalaika fans after her appearence in the latest chapter like her lack of muscle/strength that we know she unleashed on Rock, the fading of her scars, and other things I decided to investigate myself to see how much she changed.

The majority of these pictures are from the anime. Sad, I know, and hopefully once I find the direct panel from the manga that mirrors it I will edit or add more to this post.

I will start this by saying that Anime Balalaika is an absolute fucking unit. Like reviewing the pictures I realized that she's built like a very beautiful Russian tank and that is really the best description here.

Do you see what I mean? It's most likely the coat but still, it has to touch her shoulders to even drape.

Although, it depends on the scene as she can be like this too

Her shoulders are less defined and aren't quite as cut as the top ones but her muscle is there at least.

She's obviously fucking built way beyond his physique and she knows it. She corners him in or crosses her arms while his remain at his side as he tries to be unaffected. And honestly, kudos to him. He stood pretty strong in this scene and I think he knew he had to do that to even try and talk on her level.

I mean we've seen what happens when he doesn't. Disclaimers ahead, Rock is in for a rough ride. I on the other hand, laughed my ass off when I took these screenshots.

Also, here is what I personally think went through Balalaika's head in each scene and the progression of it.

Anyway, I must have forgotten just how Balalaika threw Rock since I took those screenshots. I knew that she did it but somehow forgot that she did it with one arm. Or at least how much power she put into flinging him like a ragdoll. LIke she fucking lifted him in the air with one hand and with a single move had him on the hood in split seconds.

His feet aren't touching the ground. He's fully straight as if he didn't have have a second to take it in, meanwhile his hands are just open and it's like he forgot he was even alive. No doubt, he had a vision that when Balalaika even reached for him that she just punted him to the afterlife.

Meanwhile, I cannot imagine the raw terror Revy must have felt seeing this happen.

She is scared as hell here. Keep in mind that this entire exchange she can't see Balalaika's face or Rock's. Both their backs are to her until Balalaika throws Rock. Still, I doubt that she really could've seen him past Balalaika's frame. Meanwhile, she's probabaly just processing that Balalaika's strong enough to do what she just did. Most likely she already knew she has a lot of physical power, I mean look at her, but this is the first time she's seen it and it happened to the worst person possible.

I can fully say that Balalaika is a fucking beast in hand-to-hand combat with the body to match it. And this is only focusing on her throwing Rock! She already snapped a neck by this point. Rock saw that and again, he does have some courage or maybe stupidity to even do this since he saw that with his own eyes.

Revy hasn't. And I don't think Rock told her, at least not until he knew they were back in Roanapur and safe. He was still traumatized by it too so chances are he is suffering some recurring nightmare of it. To top it off, this event alone was so visceral in his mind that he draws a direct comparaision to Chang, symbolizing how truly helpess he was.

In conclusion the only explanation for this is that Chang used his CIA connnections (Eda) to tamper with the latest chapter to make himself look cooler. And I guess he had enough mercy to include Rock in that upgrade too, for whatever reason.

Progress! Name has also gotten established as Quimet.

What I've done with her is give her a sculpt (based on F Viera face 4), including the scars as their own parts since her sculpt is symmetrical, and now they cross over her brows and tattoos as well without having to fiddle the textures of those (for that reason, at least; I am going to edit her brows). All of her face textures have also been edited, normal to add her some cheekbone, mask to reduce the shine/glossiness on her lips and around her eyes, and diffuse edits include her nose marking, change her lip color, and add her makeup. I removed the depigmentation from her skin as well, though I already forgot which texture took care of that. Anyway.

And then the hair mashup, obviously, which I haven't polished yet but works well enough already. I edited some highlights on it.

Her eye texture is a tweaked vanilla texture, and the body she has is YAB to give her some Muscle.

Also with a different hairstyle to show her face better.

Some random thoughts...

This time through I read the book in sections, and I really noticed the structure of it better than I did the first time:

Part 1 ends with Barkan betraying Garak and part 2 ends with Garak killing Barkan. edit: i forgot to add, part 3 ends with the vote (now that Cardassia is free of their figurative "corruption" they can move forward into a new future?)

In each section, there is a female character introduced with whom Garak has an intimate relationship: in part 1 it’s Palandine, Part 2 Tir Remara, and part 3 the nameless federation diplomat. Part 1 ends with Palandine’s “betrayal” though their relationship continues, in part 2 Remara was sent to assassinate Garak but effectively pardons him for his part in the death of her family, and in part 3 Garak gets the nameless Federation diplomat fired because he betrays her secrets to the Order.

The three timelines– which I confusingly refer to in my head as “past”, “present” (canon DS9 timeline), and “future” (technically the present, when Garak is writing)– all weave through the book simultaneously, but each one feeds into the one that follows it: eventually the “past” ends up in the “present”; the "present" skips most of canon as redundant and eventually feeds into the “future.”  At the start of part 3 there are only 2 timelines left, and the book ends in the “future” or present timeline. 

Garak says that Cardassians experience memory in a different way from humans, that the past is always constantly present with him. What I find particularly interesting about this idea, and this kind of feeds back into my thoughts about Palandine and Garak’s “vision”, is, since he is writing all of this after it happens for the most part, I wonder if his “memory” of events is influenced by what happens afterward? If maybe his original “vision” in the pit wasn’t of any specific person, but after meeting Palandine and Barkan their features overlaid that memory? (This is where I get a bit into the weeds of: Andrew Robinson wrote this from his own personal notes about playing Garak, but the book is Garak telling this as a story to someone else, so how much of what I perceive as “isn’t it neat that he has a vision of this woman who is a literary device and representation of his deepest love, IE Cardassia” is Andrew Robinson’s choice in bringing together Garak’s past and using these metaphors and structures in the writing of the book, or Garak’s choice in relating his own past, or Garak just literally relating what actually happened but choosing to tell only the parts of the story that still matter to him [such as skipping so much of his work with the Order]? Because those things feel all very much a part of each other and more intertwined than they might be in a standard novel tie-in written by a person unrelated to the original “text.” [I just started reading the novelization for “Emissary” and it’s kind of hilarious the things that get retcon-ed into the characters later, most obviously Julian’s augmentation; obviously this novelization has no idea that 5 seasons later that was going to be a plot point.]) 

Anyway, in "Improbable Cause" Garak mentions that all his old contacts in the Order were assassinated. I've had this pet theory that Pythas' scars were from a failed assassination attempt related to this incident, and that he'd been in recovery/hiding since. Though on this reading I noticed the timeline doesn't add up, since when Garak calls Pythas' office just slightly before canon Entek is already there, and Pythas vaguely implies that his injuries are from the Fire. (“What happened?” / “Nothing that hasn’t happened to millions of others. I was one of the lucky ones.”) Given how extensive his injuries seem I had headcanoned a much longer recovery, but I suppose the timeline in the book is very fluid; the Fire was probably several months to over a year ago, at least at this point.

If Pythas was there that fateful night when Garak didn't quite make his assignation with Palandine, I find that very interesting. Garak mentions that he completely lost touch with both Pythas and Palandine after his exile, despite deliberately seeking out information about them. That feels very fitting if Palandine is Cardassia herself, unreachable to Garak in his exile, and Pythas is Garak's parallel “self": the him he couldn't be. I like that all three of them were there in that garden that night, all of them unable to communicate openly with each other.

Even with the warning that an "old schoolmate" would be at the meeting, Garak still doesn't recognize Pythas at first, even though Pythas has "almost no presence" something Garak literally has always known about him and would/should have been expecting. I do wonder how Madred knew who he was to even tell Garak to expect him? It doesn't seem like something Pythas would have shared with Madred.

Both times when Pythas sneaks up on/surprises Garak, in part 2 and part 3, Garak refers to him as a ghost from the past. In part 2 Pythas replies "I was never a ghost", perhaps foreshadowing his survival?

Both Garak and Pythas are inspired by Ghemor's platform of democracy for Cardassia, which I think is a interesting commentary on Bamarren, in that the 4 graduates we are aware of who are still (possibly) living, have abandoned the pre-Fire-Cardassia model of living as unsustainable, embracing either democracy or the Oralian Way.

In the beginning of part 2 Tolan tries to describe religion to 19* year old Garak whose response is basically "sounds fake," but Garak spends pretty much all of part 2 being almost involuntarily drawn into the Oralian Way, and at the end of the book it represents one of his greatest hopes for the future.

(*i headcanon the "Age of Emergence" as 16, mostly because if you spend nine years in an elite school or trade program you graduate and join society at 25, which is a nice "round" number for someone like me who really likes multiples of five.)

…everything is discussed endlessly . . . and then put to yet another vote! Is this your vaunted democracy, Doctor? To be subjected to the opinion of any person who has the breath to utter one? How does anything get accomplished?

Given how much Garak enjoys arguing pointlessly, and not just with Julian, I find this statement absolutely hilarious.
