LINK -> A Ballad of Thorns & Roses: How the High Lord of Spring Tells his Tale
by positivelyruined 🌹🍃🎻
links: Ao3 | original writing blog | WriterGram
Summary: When Tamlin, the High Lord of the Spring Court of Prythian, finds the clock counting down to his final battle with Amarantha — two things push him into action: the sudden death and bloody sacrifice of his friend Andras and the fierce vexation of his close friend Lucien. With no more time to waste, he offers shelter to the one person that he should despise the most — the girl who murdered Andras. His heart has been bleeding for a decade. Will their connection be enough to break the bond that holds the Spring Court captive, or will this burning love only spurn Tamlin’s heart? In this tale as old as time, only time will tell. 🌹
Shoutouts: big thank you to both of my original fans and betas, @tamlinfairchild and @lorcandidlucienwill who have both dealt with endless message spam, ten thousand questions, and my endless protection and fascinations with this character. also to @sonics-atelier who will be writing poetry for this epic in the long run. 👏👏👏
also a shoutout to the entire #proTamlin community | I’m glad to know that even if I am insane, at least I’m not alone.
for a lot of people, this will be my debut into the community (although I’ve written a handful of small things). but in short, I answer to cece, alex, ‘hey you over there’ and anything generally nice. 👋 I am twenty-seven and have been writing around fifteen years. 📝 I hope you all enjoy this exercise in mindbending and my journey into fixing everything SJM broke by…writing these books.

Looking through old author interviews and I’m so interested in this question:
When you’re pushing the limits of character or situation, what ineffable traits of Katniss and Peeta/Everlark do you keep intact to preserve their characters?

Fan fact: i thought and decided that i won’t explain shit to anyone about the Boys.
Neither here, nor on twitter, nor on telegram. Cuz there’s a lot of fandom ppl explaining every single frame from there, why should i waste my breath? Also, taking into account that there’s no point in thinking about it, everything is almost clearly shown, it just needs to be well composed for everyone to see. So there will be no deep explanations from me, as was the case with draciolus/golden scales (iykyk), where i MILKED "Volkov" and "Altan" as if my life depended on it. But I'll post headcanons! Kinda. And fluff. And that's it.
I won’t write serious stuff here, Kripke and co. give me enough so that the part of my brain responsible for tragedy and blood remains well-fed and satisfied. Teenage/school au?? Yyyeahhh. Omegaverse?? OF COURSE. Kids au??? HELL YEAH. That's mine, mhm, I'll leave the thinking part to smart people *wink wink*
For someone who was almost traumatized by a horrible experience with the content in a previous fandom, tyvm, I'm just gonna enjoy myself here 🤠 even with angst.
Btw i still need Homelander to my Butcher (PLEASE I WANNA ROLEPLAY)

Autism/ADHD culture is being a writer but having a combination of alexithymia, emotional dysregulation, executive dysfunction, incurably scattered thoughts, low motivation, and hypophantasia (a reduced ability to mentally visualize) makes you stare frustratedly at your blank paper/computer screen for the majority of the time wondering “why can’t I just do this like others can?” And most of the work you get done is a chapter and a half on rare occasions, bonus points if you’re working with a likeminded co-writer then you get two or three, or maybe even more!!
Note: no matter how much difficulty you have with writing, if you consider yourself a writer, you’re still a writer, period. <3

i actually need dilc x assassin reader soooo bad diluc is so in love w her & she just wants to kill him 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️
OKAY HEAR ME OUT
Diluc x fatui assassin reader. She’s sent from snezhnaya to find him after his crimes there. She’s obviously not a harbinger, but she’s a rather decently up there member and it’s essentially a sort of spy x target kind of story. He’s grumpy and stoic and you’re charming and sly and always in his damn tavern and slowly, slowly, you worm your way into his heart and get close to him. Visit the winery, too—because he trusts you enough to invite you now. And every day he falls more and more in love with you, and every day you’re closer and closer to finally being able to carry out your task of killing him
DOOMED LOVERS. DO YOU HEAR ME.

"Don't be afraid to leave comments on fanfiction" - Good, clear, encouraging
"Writers love and feed off comments so they are always welcome" - Better, clear about intent but also putting the choice in the readers hands
"Comments are important for engagement and give writers a boost of inspiration so they mean the world to us, big or small - please leave them when you can!" - Amazing, 10/10, it's vulnerable and honest but also respectful and kind
"We do this for free, you owe us comments" - for the Love
"you're going to make us stop writing" - of all things on Earth
"you're ruining our drive to write" - please stop doing this.

A thought…
Gotta say, I am strangely touched by how accurate some of y’all’s head canons and expectations are for Spellbound. As in, legitimately, several of the things you’ve all come up with are going to happen and/or exist in my notes. And the ones that weren’t already in the plans, weren’t something already in my notes, feel spot on to me in terms of the characterization I was aiming for… and I just don’t know what to think of that but it gives me warm fuzzy feelings.

In line with @sonics-atelier’s post.
Why did Tamlin lock Feyre in the house?
Well,
A) There’s a violently dark high lord in their midst who can appear and disappear at will. Warding off his home was much easier than doing it to his country. Because Prythian is the world, Spring is the district. Which, by the way, that makes Tamlin’s place as a high lord equivalent to a king.
Tumblr media
B) She fights the mating bond so hard that she continually puts herself in danger. Reckless, impulsive, and used to running on the road not taken — that sounds like Feyre to me. Feyre as she should be refuses to be defined by anything or anyone but herself. This, also, is why she balks at marrying Tamlin. Even without Rhysand’s interference — her character should struggle with the idea of marriage.
Is it of a lesser force than a mating bond? Yes.
Can it still be used to control someone? Yes.
C) It still comes down to a bottom line — no one should be imprisoned for someone else’s crime. Yet, is a lock on a door true imprisonment? To lock your door is to be intelligent, aware, and realistic. It is an acknowledgement of the danger, without deprivation of the freedom to open it.
When you love someone, what do you do when they are in danger? You stand in front of them. You fight for them. You give them a safe place. No, this is not done perfectly, but it is from a genuine care for another person’s well being. One of my favorite TV relationships that executes this trope perfectly is Liv and Major, from iZombie.
They are both constantly sacrificing and compelling the other to be safe. They fight for what is right, even when they disagree about how it should be done. Their relationship hangs in the balance until the end of the story. When their world goes to war, they find their unique roles in it. Sometimes, they fight on what appears to be opposing sides. Yet, they are made for one another. In the end, they sit down and realize that they would have never made it through the experience without the influence of their partner. In deep respect, friendship, and genuine care — they continually strive (together and apart) to improve society, fight for justice and fight for a world where they can be together.
I never used names in that paragraph. Doesn’t it scream Feylin?
Can’t you say that Tamlin is constantly sacrificing to keep Feyre safe? Including separating himself from her when his magic becomes too strong to control.
Couldn’t you say that Feyre compels him? She refuses to go out a quitter. She runs into danger, facing unknown consequences, because he is in danger.
He respects her desire to be wild.
Yet, he knows her deep, inner need to be safe.
She respects his ability to put others above himself, but she knows that secretly all he needs is to be given care, affection, and kindness.
Together, they were meant to have built up a Spring Court that is a home to the wild people, the refugees, and the abandoned.
Because in knowing what it is like to be completely alone — they continually return to one another. When she has pushed herself too far, she runs back to him for safety. When he has given too much, she takes the burdens off his shoulders and reminds him that if you cannot care for yourself…you cannot care for anyone else.
Together — they are two of the most dangerous fairies that you could cross — because they balance one another. Tamlin and Feyre were designed (by accident) to compliment one another as a team — a badass, “I would let the world burn if the fire didn’t touch you,” team.
In public, they are iron and steel. In private, they melt for one another until every locked door and broken fence in their hearts can mend.
That is what SJM destroyed in ACOMAF. That was the sheer potential that this couple had. That is what makes ACOTAR a stand alone book.
Instead,
The dear and dead to us author decided to replace her characters with shallow imitations of what they could have been.
Tumblr media
So, let’s be real. Feylin was destroyed by the simple fact that ACOTAR has a sense of right and wrong. ACOMAF obliterates that narrative.

Answer the questions and tag the fanfiction authors you know:
Thank you @mathiwrites for the tag! I decided to do this on my writing focused blog. @tamlinfairchild
How did you get into writing fanfiction?
I started out writing for fandoms almost sixteen years ago during one of my family’s last vacations together. I remember specifically hauling our very chunky and dependable laptop around the resort and curling up on various benches at age twelve to type out sentences. The work that I completed that week, as embarrassing as it is, I keep in my memory box as a dedication to what has become such a huge part of my life.
How many fandoms have you written in?
Glory. Officially on Archive of Our Own, I have written things for A Court of Thorns & Roses, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Supergirl.
The Chronicles of Narnia is what drew me into the depth of world building, characters, and writing in general. I will always have a special place for it in my heart. The original character whom I created sixteen years ago for that story still accompanies me to this day. I know her better now, as one gets to know a friend. She will likely find a home in my original works as that fantasy world expands.
Supergirl had my heart for multiple years and is what got me into working on one project for an extended amount of time. I was writing a long haul with @fangirlintheforest. We met and had a strong laugh over the fact that we have the same name. We are still friends to this day.
I believe I only wrote around 20k words to that story in a year, which I have now proven I am capable of doing in a month; but it was the first time I sat down and shared my ideas with someone in the way I do today.
How many years have you been writing fanfiction?
15 going on 16 years. I started original work four or five years ago.
Do you read or write more fanfiction?
I certainly write more than I read. Often, I can’t stop writing. Occasionally, I’ve written a sentence or two at a stoplight. I definitely have skipped dinner or stayed in from gatherings in order to let the words in my brain flow from my own. Writing is a core function of who I am.
I love to read fanfiction. My favorites of all time are definitely in the Dramione fandom. Some of their works have been very influential on me.
However, when I am writing fanfiction, I tend to avoid reading anything about the characters I am currently working with unless asked.
What is one way you've improved as a writer?
I could go on and on; but the three biggest things I’ve learned in the past two years are:
One — be your own biggest fan. especially when writing original content, you will not always have readers there by your side during creation. reread your own writing more often with excitement and love than you do with criticism. the kinder you are to your mistakes, the easier they are to correct.
Two — write for you. why did you begin this story? deep inside you know the reason why. you may lack the words for it (funny, right?) but the flame is there. start it for you, finish it to make yourself proud.
Three — just write. write it badly; but don’t let anything stop you from not writing it at all.
Do you have any bad habits as a writer?
Perfectionism and avoidance. I struggle ending stories even when I know scene by scene how it goes. I think it’s important to realize that writing your conclusion is not a death, especially for the first book of many, but an opportunity.
What's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
Probably things on Psychopaths, Criminals, and truly dark details about death.
What's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?
Honestly, I’m used to not getting many. So seeing them is still a bit surreal. However, I love when people point out that something truly touched their heart or made them notice something new. My emotions bleed into my words and so has the healing and trauma recovery that I have experienced in the last five years. Being able to share my grief, healing, and hope with others in ways that makes them feel seen and heard is truly what calls to my heart as a writer.
What's the most fringe trope/topic you write about?
I’m not super fringe. I think the plot that I enjoy which I’ve heard is unpopular is a pregnancy trope. I have always enjoyed writing them, I’m not entirely sure why. I have health conditions that prevent me from having children of my own and I think incorporating that into my fiction is probably a very good outlet for me.
What is the hardest type of story for you to write?
I am still learning how to write good action scenes and humor. Humor is still probably what I would consider my biggest challenge.
What is the easiest type?
Lyrical, emotional prose
Where do you do your writing? What platform? When?
I currently use GoogleDocs and am hoping to switch platforms soon. I want to start doing things with this blog as well. I’ve considered making a YouTube Channels about learning how to write.
What is something you've been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?
I approach a lot of different topics, because I believe that even if I haven’t experienced something — if you step into someone else’s shoes with empathy — your own pain will translate.
But, the one thing that does intimidate me is cancel culture. I am still working through my fear of publishing because of the recent changes to fandom and reading. Authors get devoured and critiqued down to the most intimate details of their lives. Critique is important and I am probably one of the biggest free speech advocates out there, but it still scares me.
Working with beta readers and listening to people who have outside experiences helps me look at my own work new ways; but I’ve also had to accept and acknowledge that no book can ever be perfect for everyone. That is part of why we write fanfiction. As an hopeful future author, I hope that I could embrace that.
What made you choose your username?
My main blog is positivelyruined, which is a line from one of my favorite books of last year: Assistant to the Villain. I decided I wanted something that matched and this fit the bill.
