Nesta Archeron Headcanon! (With the help of the lovely @abbeysxlibrary 🫶🏼)

Nesta sings like Lucy Gray Baird! Okay, hear me out:

The human lands actually have a Southern (American) accent. Nesta has a soft, southern bell accent that may be easy for her to drop. I know Lucy’s is more pronounced but Nes would likely have been taught to suppress it.

Along with Nes’ dance and ettiequte lessons, she also had singing lessons. They weren’t as strenuous or emphasized upon like her dancing but she still had them. While singing in front of members of high society, her mother expected her to tone down the accent.

BUT when she’s ALONE?! She’d sing hymns and softer songs to herself, letting the accent come through. She didn’t do it in front of Elain, Feyre, or Papa Archeron. It’s only when she’d make trips to the village, obviously alone, that she’d sing/hum to herself!

Perhaps she stopped after the Cauldron but hearing Gwyn sing during services has sparked her want to do it again. Gwyn would be over the moon to know they share that interest too. I’d also like to imagine Em could too and all three women have their own styles derived from their regions of origin.

And in the future, the Valkyries all sing together in a chorus of accents and pitches. They’d do it as a way to calm themselves before going into battle. As a way to promote mind-stilling even!!

In all seriousness, though. Why are eyes Amarantha’s thing?? Eye know why. ;)

OK, OK. Now I'll be serious.

So, it turns out that it's a reference to the original Ballad of Tam Lin (well, one of many versions). When Janet wins Tam Lin back from the faeries on All Hallow's Eve, the Faerie Queen is naturally furious.

'But had I kend, Tam Lin,' she says, 'What now this night I see, I wad hae taen out thy twa grey een, And put twa een o tree.'

Translation:

"If I had known that this [your rescue] was going to happen, I would have taken out your eyes and replaced them with wooden ones."

Savage.

Depending on the version, she also says that she wishes she had thought to replace his fleshy heart with one of stone, so that he could never feel Janet's love. (That explains why SJM added that detail into ACOTAR, too.)

While the eye thing can be interpreted in a similar fashion (so that he cannot look upon his love), there's another reason she might have wanted to blind him. At the time the Ballad was written, there were folk tales that told of mortals that obtained faerie sight (and wisdom) that they should not have had, and were later blinded (or had their eyes plucked out entirely) by the faeries when their knowledge is discovered.

So, there you have it! There was a precedence for Amarantha’s weird obsession with eyes, after all. :}

Hi Sorry its been a while since my last update on the book club list of Books we read and where we are so far: This isn't to say we haven't been reading, we have (though a little slow at times), I'm just bad at writing the review XD When my friend Shelby and I started: 1. One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig - (Review is up) [I read Two Twisted Crowns its not part of our club though, and that review is up as well] 3. Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins - [I read the original hunger game series before this 1st review is up but the others are not] 4. Stone and Sky by Z. S. Diamanti - review not up 5. Just Stab Me Now by Jill Bearup - review not up 6. Foxglove King by Hannah Whitten - review not up 7. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarrow - review not up 8.
