grensalt !! i have the rest of the page all doodled up but i wanna color it at some point so wont post it all yet... hes a trans man (he/him) who was smuggled out of his family castle with the help of his (formerly servant) elf at 15 bc the environment was abusive & he wanted to live his true life as a man instead of as a woman stuck under the thumb of his shit family + shit fiance.

he grew out + dyes his hair & doesnt shave to keep his appearance unnoticeable to the bounty hunters his family sent to retrieve him (its naturally wavy but he easily neglects to take care of himself so its also very tangled) hes only 25 but his unkempt appearance makes him appear much older. he developed severe anxiety + depression due to the fear of being caught + forced back home (and the crushing guilt he cant let go off regarding his elf changing their literal self on his behalf & declaring themselves his caretaker…) & has just naturally lots of gastrointestinal problems that have plagued him since childhood, making eating a chore which led to him becoming a little sickly & underweight (his elf is doing the best they can !!) despite his ailments he is a well rounded fighter, quick on his feet (limited - it tires him out) & a master at using a bullwhip

hes crushing hard on laios but refuses to make any moves (hes embarrassed about his overall appearance & figures hes way out of his league anyway.) when laios first met him in the dungeon he had mistaken grensalt with senshi thinking the dwarf had been changed into an elf again. senshi became determined to find something that wont upset their stomach when they met

my unnamed elf companion for grensalt ! pls ignore how similar their color scheme is to thistle i revamped an old dnd oc & i liked the color scheme too much to change it... not sure if i want to keep the orange color markings for them lol... theyre genderless (they/he) and are about 50 (unsure of their age - they were bought...)

they were given to grensalt when he was a child to act as a playmate + servant despite gren refusing to see them as anything but a brother to him. they smuggled grensalt out of their castle prison. they used ancient magic to transform themselves into a serpent beastman as a means of disguising themselves further & keeping grensalt safe from harm, & has discovered the venom they produce can be made into a sort of drug that helps to promote an appetite in gren (its a tedious process but well worth it - something they are very hesistant to share) both would die for the other

when transformed, they can use their body as a means of transportation, but only for 1 individual (99% of the time its grensalt) while they usually use their serpentine body to fight, they arent opposed to using their magic. they prefer to use their violin bow as a conduit rather than a staff or a wand. while refraining to play for entertainment purposes, the music they play helps grensalt to sleep.

theyre quick witted with a sharp tongue & unfortunately quick to anger, but are observant & extremely sweet when it comes to gren. they have a tendency to ignore other injured parties as to them gren & only gren comes first (marcille cannot stand them for this matter)

they & grensalt stay in the dungeon on multiple floors - its too risky on the surface due to them being wanted by grens family & dont want to risk word of themselves being spread (the high rate of death helps keep people from snitching when they have other priorities) plus, theyre looking for some sort of cure for grensalts ailments - they cant stand to see him suffering everyday

Fanfic fanart fanfic fanart!! When I read the "hostage" line, it invoked such a clear image in my head of Siffrin tensed up like a startled prey animal that it got added to my list of things to maybe draw immediately.

Dooon't think about the words 'left' and 'right' in that quote too hard. I know how to read I prommy. :) (I did Not process those words and lost the coin flip in the composition phase...)

Close-up and ramblings about the cans of worms I unleashed upon myself under the cut

Time taken on this was [head in hands] 48 hours and 37 minutes.... That bloated number has two culprits:

1) I got a new tablet! My old one was 10 years old. Its plastic was melting and the electronics had ghosts in 'em, so it needed the sweet release of retirement. However, I had just gotten to the line art phase when the switch happened. Clumsily getting used to the new one during the most precise phase of the process did devastating things to my perfectionism.

2) I made a GRAVE mistake with how I chose to color this. I wanted to keep the grayscale layers for accuracy instead of just slapping a B&W filter over the colored version, so all the colors come from gradient maps, color balance layers, overlay layers, and raster layers clipped to other layers. Listen. I'm used to working with lots of layers. I like keeping things separate so I can edit them more easily. But this is the worst layer system I have ever created. Going from color to B&W requires toggling exactly 20 layers & folders on or off. There are 87 visible layers total. This file lags when you edit it. I've never wanted CSP v1.13 to have layer comps more in my life.

Not helping matters was Isabeau. I said he was the easiest to draw in my last post, but he took that as a challenge, apparently. It's a simple fist-on-hip pose, why was that so hard!?! His face gave me grief too.

Odile's lil' wave got added at the end of the line art phase. I've never added to a sketch that late in the game before, but I felt bad about how little screen area she got, haha. Girl, I tried, but this composition was not kind to you.

Giving Isa, Odile, and Siffrin skin colors felt cursed. Well... "color" is maybe a stretch for Sif. The pallor from being affection-jumpscared isn't helping. In the dev's nose reveal post, they said that Siffrin isn't white but is white-passing, so BOOM albinism headcanon. Like c'mon, they wear a big hat and have most of their skin covered because the sun is a deadly laser when you have little to no melanin and idk if sunblock exists in-universe. Heck, maybe most Islanders have it, their whole religion is about the night sky so maybe they're nocturnal. This makes perfect sense. :)

“I’m home~,” my husband’s voice calls out from the doorway.

Wiping my hands on my apron, I greeted him coming from the kitchen, “Al! Welcome back. How was your day?”

“Same as always. It’s gotten quite dusty out, I wouldn’t recommend you and the lil’ munchkin to go out for a while. I’ll take a shower first,” he responded dusting himself off briefly by the door before removing his shoes and coat. Heading towards the bathroom past me, but not before giving me smooch on the cheek and a gentle rub on my swollen belly.

Yes. Miledy got pregnant with Alastor’s child. He slowly warmed up to the idea when he saw her babysitting the neighbor’s toddler and when they both visited an orphanage, albeit to Al’s hesitance, where he saw her dote on the children, as she was also a kid that grew up in an orphanage feeling great empathy towards them. If Alastor didn’t stop her, she would have adopted all of them. At the end of the day, he concluded that you would be the best mom possible out there and gave her wish. Making him very sentimental and missing his late mother, which she often comforted him about.

I sighed happily and rubbed my stomach. I stared at the cradle with much longing, I couldn't wait to see our baby. Above the cradle was a mobile, it was a string of ornaments that were meant to be a toy for them, it was decorated with shells, dolphins, rabbits and a deer—as requested by Al.

I picked up a music box that had our favorite music. Alastor had this requested as a gift for your child, I was surprised when he presented it to me. I didn't think he'd be attached to them as much as I was, but I guess he adores them in his own way. Making a family does make it seem more real.

It makes me think back all those lives we've taken just to protect our family. I wonder if those people had family too? Did they look for them?

I was pulled from my thoughts when Alastor stood beside me, gazing at the cradle as I was.

“And how have the two of you been, my love,” Alastor asked, his hair still wet and changed clothes.

The both of us walked towards the couch, him making me sit on his lap as always after work, where he would rub my stomach and lower back, and even sometimes my chest whenever they get too heavy.

“Been kicking and moving around so much lately. I’m so sore all over,” I moaned as I leaned my back on his chest, letting him massage my lower back.

“Don’t worry, darling. I’ll give them a good talking to,” he joked poking around my stomach.

Giggling and squirming in his hold I cried, feeling fluttery inside when the baby kicked in response, “Al, that tickles! Haha!”

“What?~ I’m just disciplining our child,” he explains himself in a light tone.

“You’re such a loser,” I rolled my eyes playfully at him.

“Oh, please,” he scoffs, “I’m anything but a loser. Have you seen my wife? The most sought out singer in all of Louisiana? You must have heard of her surely.”

“I have indeed,” I giggled, “but I heard she unfortunately got knocked up by some random radio broadcast guy that does his shows in a basement.”

Alastor gasps dramatically clutching his hand over his chest and exclaims, “You did not! One, I own a studio in the city where I do my shows, thank you very much. Two, how dare you say unfortunately, I’m the most highly paid broadcaster. Any person would drop on their knees to even get to be in the same room as me.”

I chuckled at his haughtiness and conceded lying on his chest once more, “You’re right, you’re right, your royal highness.”

He lets out a hum similar to a purr contently embracing us.

“Abigail!”

A little squeal sounded down the halls along with little pitter patters of her tiny feet as she tried to get away from me.

“Come here, Sunshine. You need to get changed. Don’t you wanna go and see Dad?” I asked her walking to her slowly.

She excitedly jumps from behind the couch and yells, “Dad! Dad! I wan’ta see Dad!”

“Alright, alright. Come’re,” I called her to come closer to put on her little yellow sundress. I took my bag that had all our necessities while Abby tried to put on her shoes that she immediately showed off when she did it all by herself.

“Well done, Abby! Dad will be happy that you can put on your shoes by yourself now. Do you want to tell him yourself?” I asked putting on her hat.

“Mhm! I’ll tell him myself!” she answered cheerfully holding my hand after I shut the door and locked it.

“Alright then. You ready?” I asked her again with a doting smile.

“Yes! Let’s go meet up with Dad!” she replied excitedly trying to drag me with her.

After we arrived at his studio, we went to his office and waited for him to finish with his morning show so we could take Abby to the park and eat at a restaurant for lunch after. She was on the floor playing with her toy doll and stuffed bunny, playing pretend by herself.

“Hello there, darlings,” Alastor greeted with a smile. Arms already open for his daughter to dive in.

“Dad!” She yelled excitedly jumping into his arms, “Are you done with work?”

“Yup. You excited to go to the park today?” he asked booping her nose playfully.

She laughed delightedly making both Al and I’s hearts to melt.

“Yeah! I wanna go now please!” she requested politely hugging her father’s neck.

“Okay, Sunshine,” he replied petting her back.

Hand in hand, the three of us spent the day together happily on our family outing. Of course, it couldn’t be helped that we would be stopped a few times, but we immediately excused ourselves from them to enjoy as much time as we could while we were together, not letting all the disturbances get in the way for our plans today.

Reaching home with a tired Abigail in my arms. Alastor carried all our bags and toys that we bought for our daughter along with a balloon with a smiley face on it tied around his wrist. As he was opening the door for us, he stopped suddenly, making me look up to him alert.

I clutched Abby closer getting ready to run. Alastor fully opened the door and dodged a swing from a brass knuckle to his head.

“Run!” he yelled as he fended off the intruder from getting to us. Abigail waking up from the shout of his father, she trembled in fear as she saw him fight another man.

“Mom? What going on?” she asked, confused and afraid grip tightening around me.

“Shh, I’m sorry but mom’s gonna ask you to stay quiet, okay? Just-just close your eyes, honey.” I requested seriously making her tuck her head in my neck.

I ran as fast I could, reaching our other house that was used for emergencies. We entered together and pushed her inside a bunker in the bedroom.

“Baby, you need to listen to me. I need you to be quiet for me, okay? No matter what, don’t open this door if it isn’t me or Dad, got it?” I ordered her with a serious face making her nod despite being afraid out of her skin. I swiped the tears under her eyes and gave a kiss on her forehead saying, “I love you so much, Abby.”

I left her after locking the door and pushed the vanity on top of the door. Holding my gun close to me and creeping my way out the bedroom to check for any of followers, as I was rounding a corner someone tugged at my hair making me throw my head back.

I whacked him with my gun up on his chin making him back up from me, taking this opportunity to shoot him in the chest twice. I aimed my gun to the window when I saw a sliver of light catch the corner of my eye, shooting when he jumps in through the window stopping him from letting him move further in.

I turned my gun to the door when I heard it open, only to feel relieved when I saw the familiar tuft of brown hair styled in a certain way that I could immediately recognize. I run towards him for an embrace that he returned.

“Where’s Abby?” he asked looking around the room.

“She’s in the bunker. Did anyone follow you?” I asked placing my hands back to my sides.

“None. I had 4 people outside, you?” he said rushing into the room making sure Abby’s safe.

“Just 2,” I sighed rubbing my face frustratedly. “I’m sorry. It must’ve been Alex’s men. They’re getting pretty fucking desperate if they’re attacking from our house,” I snarled.

“It’s fine, darling. That’s why we prepared this to make sure Abby stays safe,” he said assuring me, and giving me a quick peck on the head. Then helping him push the vanity off the door and took our daughter out.

“Let’s stay in the cabin for a while, we aren’t safe here,” Alastor suggested which I agreed to.

Morning come; Abby woke up confused, she then realized she was in her father’s cabin seeing his prized hunting gun on wall. Her eyes scanned the room for her parents and found none of them there, so she slowly opened the door and was greeted by the smell of cooked meat. She found her father in the kitchen cleaning while you were knitting on the sofa. Hearing the door creak, both the adults turned their heads to their daughter’s little round head.

“Good morning, Sunshine~,” Alastor greeted waving his spatula.

I got off the sofa, leaving my knitting materials and scooped her up into my arms, “Hello, bunny. Did you have a good sleep? It’s already 10pm.”

“Mhmm, but I had a bad dream. Mom and Dad where fighting some bad guys and I was so scared that you got hurt,” she mumbled making my face ridden with guilt.

I never wanted my baby to experience this, I never knew that Alex’s obsession would ever get this deep.

To briefly explain what happened over the years, I sang in a private bar where some very important people were having a meeting. Unfortunately for me, one of people there was interested in me. So, I explained to him that I had a husband, but he refused to leave me alone until Alastor came with the owner of the establishment to diffuse the situation. However, it didn’t stop there, he insistently showered me with gifts and letters that I had to refuse each time. I confronted him saying that I would never be with him as long as I lived, so in retaliation his obsession turned sinister, believing that if he couldn't have me then I was better off dead.

Alastor, fueled with irritation, confronted him almost successfully killing him in the process if it weren’t for Alex’s group to look for him and warded Al off. And to this day he’s eager to hurt our family.

“I’m sorry, honey,” I replied eyebrows furrowed kissing her head, “it’s just a bad dream don’t be scared.”

“Exactly, nothing to be worried about. Why don’t you have some breakfast first? Breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day, Sunshine,” Alastor spoke up after setting the plates, taking Abby into his arms, and placing her on her chair.

At the end of the day, when Abby passes out from exhaustion from playing in the meadow all day. Alastor takes his gun off the wall making me stand up in worry.

“Where are you going?” I asked, holding his arm.

“To finish this once and for all. I don’t want Abby to be in danger anymore. Most of all, I don’t want you to live in fear that we’re going to lose Abby, neither do I,” he reason placing his hand on your cheek.

“Just please... please be careful, Al,” I pleaded him covering his hand over mine.

He gave me a smug smile and replied, “I’ve never lost before, darling. I’ll be back before sunrise. I promise.”

I nodded as he gave me a kiss, as much as I was worried about him, I knew Al could take care of himself.

“Stay safe,” I said staying by the door frame while he waves goodbye, painfully unaware how devasted I would be when he never returned the following day.

HALLELUJAH after like over 10 hours I completely theses lil guys!

Here's a lineup! and some extra concept stuff

Edit: I'll also provide some insight on my inspirations for the designs just because (under the images).

For Jay, I was going a cowgirl sort of aesthetic. I tried to combine this idea, her original outfit, and her new outfit all in one. I also found the idea that Jay is slightly taller than chip hilarious so I went with that idea. There's a theme of x's and that was mostly because I thought it looked cool haha. I also put her pin next to her gun holster, since that feels metaphoric or something idk.

For Gillion I went stronger on the shape language. I primarily based him off squares since hes the "tank" of the group. I hoped adding pink in his hair would tie him together with the warmer-colored group. But being completely honest I was also inspired by @/kutakunaga's design here. I still wanted to give a wild look by implementing stuff that was torn or sharp (the seaweed). I love his color palette the most.

Chip was definitely the hardest! For him I went with more triangles to have a more mischievous look. I knew I wanted to implement some sort of frilly to make his coat interesting. Not sure how I feel about it yet. I made his design the warmest, since he's associated fire! May not be clear, but the straps are for a dual sword holster in the back!

sooo i had designs of them before but since i have replayed the game recently i thought i would revamp them!

design thoughts! (and pronouns)

Colored Pencils (he/him):

- Red case translated to red coat! I also wanted to include the pencil design on the ends of his coat since thats something i did in the og design and still thought was super fun!

- i added sort of a pencil shaving ‘spats’ onto his boots bc i had it at the top of the old boots but changed how the boots looked and didn’t want to lose that little detail!

- his hair is ringlets dyed different colors ofc to mimic colored pencils :)

Rubber Band (she/he/they):

- mostly i just tried to mimic the shape of rubber band in the game! so the hair loops up top, and the shape of his garments!

- i did add a cape attached to the choker around their neck, because it felt fitting for her to have a cape to whip around dramatically (and it adds to the silhouette nicely i think!)

Hole Punch (he/him):

- probably the most similar to my og design! i mostly wanted to change up the colors a bit

- i wanted to give him like a very classic looking disco outfit, because i think if someone is as into disco as hole punch is, they will go hard on the aesthetic! (btw i think his fit is probably also super shiny/glittery in some way i just didnt do that here! (omg i should do a version with tassles))

- but obviously with the twist of lots of (i forget what theyre actually called but the holes punched into his outfit)(this word always escapes me… gibberts?? gibbets… widgets? w…something…)

Tape (they/she):

- i thought it would be cool if they had a sort of biker gangster vibe so i incorporated some of that look into their design (their hairstyle, taped chest/jacket combo, loose baggy pants)

- they do have gold knuckles that are supposed to be like the tape ripper thingy :)

- i do also enjoy the idea of tape having a bike! i just didnt draw one fjfjfj

Scissors (she/her):

- i wanted her to be the tallest and Most Intimidating looking

- the ballet sort of look is something i picked up from the way scissors moved in the fight, i translated the fact scissors basically stands on a point into someone standing on their tiptoes and then i kind of based most of the rest of her look on that (which gave me some good excuses to add bows that look like the handle of a pair of scissors hehe!)

- she also has two blades that are basically If U Ripped A Pair Of Scissors In Half i just didnt draw them

Stapler (he/him):

- i picked a dog breed that i thought would fit the way stapler looks in game! so a longer bigger kind of dog with a shiny black coat :)

- he is a doberman pinscher! idk i think hes just a little guy. i may have drawn him a lil small idk i didnt properly reference like scale or anything

oh speaking of scale! in reference to real life im thinking that these guys are actually around the size you would imagine most craft supplies to be (so like scissors being several inches at the most (some of them in craft supply form are obviously more long than tall so i just improvised what i thought would be fitting)) and then mario would just probably be eeny in comparison like he is in the game haha

hi this is rslashknits!! I misread your tags and now see you partially frogged already. sorry about suggesting that again!!

you mentioned a knitting cafe--imo this is what knitting community is for. if you know a trusted expert knitter who you don't mind handing your sweater to I might ask them if they think they can partial frog and fix and demonstrate for you. if your yarn is messed up from your attempted fix I think you can tie in some fresh yarn to replace your old ladders (with knots hidden inside?) but that's a lil scary haha, so I'd defer to an expert on it.

I say this because when I know I messed up and it isn't too many rows down I bring the piece to my mom, lol. and I always learn a lot like that!

if you like my little "I totally did that on purpose fix" where you cover it up and then copy the design across the sweater--if you have a computer program that can do it, I would try and edit the photo first to plan the placement and frequency of the lines and make sure I like it. especially cuz you definitely didn't plan something like that when you started and it's gonna be different visually from your original plan of that sweater. it will also help you decide if you hate the look right off the bat so you don't waste time.

ah no worries! I tend to put a lot of information in my tags but I know not everyone actually reads those, especially if the post gets shared around.

For a full explanation of what happened yesterday, just for context and because, idk, I want to share? :

so my first skein finally ran out and I was trying to join the second one, and I thought I'd knit both the old and the new strand together for a bit to like, strengthen it or something idk. But I accidentally used the wrong strand for a bit, so I dropped that one, picked up the other one, and went along, just to then notice that obviously there's a bit of a floater happening. Then I noticed the float getting looser, so I started pulling it to try and figure out where it was loosening from, but that snapped the yarn. Then I lowkey panicked because I was worried about it not being secure enough and my project falling apart on me so I tried to frog the two rows I'd knit with the new skein and very slowly and carefully put the needle back on, but while doing that I dropped some stitches and created some new ones and also put a lot of it back on the needle the wrong way. And also the next row also partially frogged but I just kind of. Added it to the current row. Then I knit the next row, which was a hassle because I put so much back on wrong. And then of course also there were the massive tension issues and gaps where I dropped stitches and I cried.

Someone else (@pixelhilma) suggested to kind of pull at the stitches to create new tension and then tying the resulting yarn loop into a knot which I might also try? Knitting cafe isn't until friday unfortunately, though I might drop by the yarn store where it's held to ask for advice.

I think tbh I'm more worried about having made a super weird mistake that will cause my project to fall apart at some point. like aesthetically it sucks but I can just wear a blazer over it or hide it with some embroidery like you suggested in your post, but idk if I accidentally made it unstable.

didn’t get as many responses as were wanted/needed for the testimonials (i sent 83 emails alone for one half of it and only 11 responses like jfc)

BUT i read through them w my mom for approval and checking info & stuff, and she said a few times that these were the best testimonials she’s read in a while, i think? and esp from someone doing it for the first time. and i was given basically the hardest campaigns to do testimonials for.

so i’m allowing myself to feel a little proud of that.

esp bc i had to edit out so much hyper-christian Garbage from the comments to make them even remotely publishable. lol (a lot of churches order things for mother’s and father’s day, hence the brand of comments i was wading through...)

ANYWAY. so that. feels good. i also got them in on the day they were required. and i got 14.25 hrs of work done for it. so there’s a lil bit of $ coming my way. in january. bc of how their payment system works. lol

and then there will also probably be more responses coming in from the emails that i sent out (literally over 120 in total) so hopefully there’ll be more and i can get more $ for adding those comments to the doc, etc. idk. we’ll see.

so that’s that done. and done well, apparently. my ability to edit nonsense writing into something legible has finally come in handy.

You make a brilliant point. I asked myself this very question each time I added a new POV 😂

One of them was kind of a no-brainer for me: the POV of the detective (this is a murder mystery and there's no detective POV - not even an amateur detective?? the horror. i refuse to be the one to put an end to a genre-defining tradition and create something different and unique, ew.). (I'm being a bit sarcastic and tongue-in-cheek here - please don't take me seriously, haha.)

In all seriousness, though: Originally the story was only told through the POV of the suspects, which is very cool (though it was/is challenging to write their POVs just ambiguous & suspicious enough so readers can't tell who the real killer is).

Ergo, I am keeping their POVs - BUT! There's stuff I want to show the readers about how the investigation itself is unfolding instead of suddenly telling them, "Oh, and the police conveniently found THIS!!" Give it a little more action, you know? Sprinkle a little tension, give it a lil' zest.

The others are pretty minor POVs that really only serve to show the reader tiny but important pieces of information. Like, I have one POV that is just this dude committing a crime... never to be seen again in the book 😂 But the crime he commits is important and links to the main crime. But this kind of POV is very rare. It only happens maybe about 3 times in the book? Out of all the additional POVs, these are the ones I'm often on the fence about. However, they are fun to write, so I'm selfishly deciding to go with it for now.

BUT the novel also has an epistolary element to it (even in previous drafts). So I'm also taking that and running with it, and of course that means a very lovely POV extravaganza where a buffet of different POVs is presented to the reader. But it makes a STATEMENT, and we all know how important statements are.

So... hopefully I survive the editing of this book. Because if I can manage to pull ALL of this off, then I'm pretty much golden. (Or I don't pull it off, and this is just one big hot mess. 50/50.)

I've given myself a hard deadline by which this book needs to be finalized - completed, polished, ready to publish if I want to self-publish it, or query if I want to try the trad publishing route.

And yet here I am, adding a whole other dimension to the story and, like, 3 new POVs.

...It's all part of the plan, I assure you.
