It's Josie's turn! I can't believe how quickly her model sheet came together! I WAS going to draw her in an actual outfit...and then I drew in Edgar for size comparison, and her fate was sealed. Moodboard for Edgar Lichtenstein, AKA not actually a doctor. Most of these document his fashion styles throughout the decades, after he's made immortal for attempting to play God. We got Crowley on there twice because he looks like him throughout the 60s and 70s. Everyone's amazed how deftly he picks up the moves of disco and the fashion of the times. His Time has come, his twinkish self is finally considered attractive. He thrives. In the 50s he's more of a family man, having figured out how to give his maternal-minded wife & creation a baby. Like Gomez Addams, his ideals of family are a little...unorthodox. He exhibits a dark yet dorky sense of humour. Dr. Eggman is yet another inspiration for Edgar, particularly the fan video explaining his backstory (it's the ine that goes in depth with his scientific theories). Edgar has a similar relationship with his grandfather as Robotnik with his father in that video. He's a misunderstood scientist at the end of the day. Young Liar, Liar era Jim Carrey is also a good cast for Edgar, i think. Brian David Gilbert is the main visual inspiration for Edgar, & his personalityfits in perfectly with the descent into madness often prevalent in BDG's Unraveled series. The bottom three, Dr. Jamison Junkenstein, Young Frankenstein as portrayed by Gene Wilder, & Frank N. Furter are my personal top three mad scientist characters/designs, & they perfectly embody the chaotic horny energy of this absolute mad lad. I am so over the moon that I finally have a Frankenstein-style mad scientist character of my own to draw. First post of the new year, last drawing of 2019! All of my personas taught me some valuable lessons in the last year, and I've wanted to draw them all for a while. After falling in love with the song "Absentee" by Jack Campell, I knew I'd found a great composition after watching the music video. At the risk of sounding cheesy, I have to say there's a lot I've learned from developing these characters. Some were made to be a persona, others just sort of naturally evolved into them. But each and every one of them taught me something valuable about the world & myself. Leroy & Spider-Pants never refuse to keep fighting, even in the face of utter defeat. I learned to enjoy games again & not feel guilty for playing them! Thank you, Aurelian! Bentley reminded me to never let the establishment bury me. Alton serves as a warning towards the opposite: self-destruction. Edgar wasn't meant to be a persona, but he has proven invaluable in remembering to acknowledge when I am at fault for something...a skill Edgar doesn't have. Baulderdash the clown is a symbol of remaining optimistic despite others wanting to drag you down to their sad level. Hope I can do more with him in the new year. Whenever I felt myself feeling alienated from humanity or afraid of opening up to what I'm truly feeling, I think of Prince Hal. And Antoine might have the ability to gaze into the past...but I'm really aiming for his story (& mine) to be about letting go of the past that no longer makes you happy. I really love Antoine & I'm so glad everyone enjoyed him. Can't wait to give him his own comic. Lastly, my oldest persona. Thomas. He's grown with me a whole decade. Ivan Hyde's model sheet! At first, Ivan was a helpful young man making his way through medical school, when he was offered the chance to intern under one Dr. Edgar Lichtenstein. Ivan's secret infatuation with the doctor caused him to stay through even the most questionable of his practices, up to and including the creation of Josie. Not one to admit he was also a touch envious, Ivan admitted a weakness in the once infallible respect he had for his employer. Soon after, Ivan discovered Edgar's secret that he had never actually become a certified doctor. Edgar, fearing the worst, tampered with his assistant's brain, and Eddie Jackal, an alternate, infuriated personality with Southern accent, took control. Edgar now lives in constant fear (& delight) for when Ivan's consciousness vanishes, and Eddie, the beast, returns.
