[Eddie is the newest firefighter at the 118. Buck is the ghost haunting the 118. Unfortunately for both of them, Eddie's also a witch and needs to put Buck's spirit to rest, because that's what witches do.

Turns out, Buck's spirit? Super not interested in being put to rest. Very interested, however, in flirting with Firefighter Diaz, who is just trying to survive his candidate year.

Making an effort is a chore these days. There are no fresh anything in his fridge. No veg, no fruit. Threw out the things that got bad since he hasn't cooked or anything. Not for himself.

Everything's replaced by microwavable meals that he could nuke when he had an appetite. Also beer. He's been buying more since he keeps running out fast.

When he does eat, he sits by Chris' bedroom door. Didn't dare enter since his son hadn't allowed him in there yet. Hasn't really talked to him, and it's making him lose his appetite, makes him want to drink.

In which Eddie gets The Call from Cedars-Sinai while he's off work thanks to a healing injury. Being Buck's emergency contact is suddenly a very real thing.

WIP Wednesday ✨

So y’all know that I’m indecisive as hell and throw out fic ideas left and right and I truly wanna do them all. But I came up with a a little something the other day and I’ve chosen to call it the insomnia fic.

It centers around the well incident, Eddie almost dying (which we should be used to at this point) and he develops a fear of the dark, mixed with a hint of claustrophobia. It leaves him unable to sleep and Buck is ofc concerned about him. Eventually Eddie admits to being afraid to going to sleep in the dark, scared that he won’t come out of it and Buck helps him work through it.

It’s dark.

It’s dark and filling his lungs with air seems like an impossible task.

The mud is slowly starting to weigh his body down, threatening to pull him under with every sudden movement that he makes.

Think.

“You need to think” he tells himself, the sound of his voice disappearing into the abyss around him.

Stay alive.

You have to stay alive, stay focused.

Moments of happiness start to fade into each other, most of them moments that he has shared with Buck and Christopher in the recent years.

Usually he wouldn’t be so afraid of dark but he’s all alone down here with no way out.

God, I’ve been deployed in war zones. This shouldn’t be so hard.

He’s talking to himself. Maybe to stay calm. Maybe to stay alive. Maybe because he isn’t ready to give up yet.

The more he tries to control his breathing, the more numb his body seems to become. He can’t feel his hands anymore, cold and tired from trying to claw their way through the weight of the mud.

“I don’t want to break down the door Buck, I want him to open it!”

Good God this line! Oh it hurts, Eddie doesn’t want Chris to shut people out like he did.

I feel like it’s almost a parallel to when Eddie had his breakdown in season 5. He kept closing doors in his mind about his trauma, bottling up his emotions until they exploded behind a locked door. Buck had to break down the door to help Eddie, also effectively breaking down the door in his mind that wasn’t allowing him to share how he felt.

Eddie doesn’t want to have to break down Chris’ door physically, or mentally for that matter. He doesn’t want his son to bottle things up inside, he wants that door to stay open. He wants Chris to be open about how he feels.

I have the feeling though that the door will be closed for Eddie for a while. I do hope they’ll be able to repair the relationship though. Chris is Eddie’s whole world, “his soul”, he NEEDS his son!

God this episode is gonna kill me…😭

When it comes to kids, Eddie and Buck both have different ways of being and communicating with them. I don’t think Eddie is as naturally enthusiastic as Buck. Eddie isn’t the kind of guy who would get easily immersed in a conversation with a kid outside of Christopher, or any other kids he may or may not have. Buck is the kind of guy who can talk and talk and talk with kids because he’s got brain full of facts, and a childhood spent feeling invisible to the adults supposed to see him, so he wants every kid he meets to know he sees them and enjoys hearing what the have to say. Eddie on the other hand is just so achingly gentle. Despite growing up with a father that wanted him to “be a man” in a very toxic masculinity type of way, Eddie is soft and warm. His entire presence emanates comfort. On calls, he’s the kind of guy who the kids cling to while they’re terrified or sad. Everything about Eddie feels safe. He offers security and care so easily - it’s second nature to him.

Seeing Buck and his interactions with kids, particularly with Christopher and the borderline co-parenting role he has taken, I know Buck would be an absolutely amazing dad. And we already know, with everything we’ve seen with him, that Eddie is a fucking phenomenal dad.

We need much more than a hug, we need a kiss now, a declaration of their feelings that gives the green light to a Romantic Buddie, because it's very clear that Buddie is a fact, it's only a matter of time and that it will develop freely in Season 9. I AM VERY EXCITED!, I'm Anxiety!.
