If one more person calls Athena's design bad I'm gonna have a brain aneurism I actually can't with you people.
In the Dual Destinies artbook, it is stated that Athena was specifically designed to have a more manga/anime influenced appearance, and I think they accomplished that with flying colors.
She doesn't look the same as Phoenix and Apollo, but that was never their intention at all. Whether you LIKE the direction they went with her design is of course, entirely subjective, but you cannot call it a failure of a design.
BUT ANYWAY I'm about to justify many design elements that I've seen people criticize.
Tumblr media
The side ponytail. ONE THAT I'VE SEEN MANY PEOPLE DISOWN FOR... Seemingly no reason? Either way it's clearly stated here that the side ponytail was used to make her silhouette more distinguishable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her more futuristic elements were also VERY MUCH INTENTIONAL- Not to mention they are quite literally justified within the game, with Athena having been raised in a robotics lab at the space center, and having a very heavy technology motif, especially with widget.
I've also seen people complain about her boots, to which I say I think they do a good job matching the rest of her color scheme as well as furthering the futuristic/manga vibe they were going for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see, both the boots and the side ponytail were prevalent in a lot of these early designs, and they also played around with the idea of her ponytail resembling a music note.
Tumblr media
As you can see, the overly futuristic vibe was always there, and she was never intended to just LOOK like an ordinary lawyer- And honestly, I'm glad they did something like this to distinguish Athena from both Apollo and Phoenix.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her wearing primarily yellow helps to tie her in, but she also stands out in her own way, which makes sense, since neither Apollo or Phoenix were designed to reflect their backstories or specific themes.
Phoenix was literally designed to be a lawyer, and Apollo was literally designed to be another Phoenix (no offense, I love Apollo and his design haha).
Not to mention they do a good job sticking to the few distinct colors they chose for her, bright yellow, blue, and white. Which reflect her personality perfectly- Like, you get what she's all about the second she comes on screen.
I guess this is why the claims that she is over designed seem to piss me off to no end. AGAIN- She is definitely more detailed than Phoenix and Apollo, and is definitely a departure from the style of the series, but that doesn't make the design cluttered or bad.
Tumblr media
NOT TO MENTION- Athena was the first protagonist to be specifically designed to become a 3d model. And it makes sense that they would utilize that medium in a way for her design DIFFERENTLY than those of her 2d predecessors- So again, the extra detail makes sense.
SO ANYWAYS- Long story short, got really sick of people echoing opinions about Athena's design being bad, so I wanted to educated anyone reading on why I personally think that she is the best designed protagonist in the ace attorney series- And her design is deserving of a lot more love.

... What lesson?
An analysis of Three Septembers and a January from Fables & Reflections by Neil Gaiman, Shawn McManus, Daniel Vozzo, Todd Klein, Alisa Kwitney and Karen Berger. (I, unfortunately, do not own The Annotated Sandman; everything I mention will be a part of my personal interpretation of this story)
Tumblr media
What this short story does really well is illustrating the sibling dynamics between the Endless. Something that before was only shown at the start of Season of Mists. While the storyline itself can truly be seen as a stand-alone, it possesses many examples of how the interpersonal relationships interfere with how the siblings rule their realms. Dream shoves his principles aside as soon as Despair plays into Destruction's disappearance. A united front is constructed between the youngest siblings to compete against Dream. Death stands outside this, and her part in the Emperor's life is taken to be unwavering. Desire's attempts to claim the Emperor, is the action most connected to the continuing storyline; "But I'll make him spill family blood, I'll bring the Kindly Ones down on his blasted head...". This proclamation foreshadows in retrospect the conclusion of The Doll's House as it is takes place chronologically before the events in that comic, but this issue was released later. The reference to the Kindly Ones also gives a great example of how the amazing storyline planning can be seen, even in stand-alone short stories. Desire bringing a dead man back to life for this competition, also shows that they have the strongest drive to win from Dream and the least respect for Death's dominion.
On a deeper layer, the Endless' interactions are used to illustrate the interplay between the concepts they personify. This is not done subtly: "Dreams are 'nothing,' sister? Without dreams, there could be no despair."; An echo of Dream's defeat of Lucifer in A Hope in Hell. Very clearly, the ability to dream trumps despair, delirium and desire. In this story, it only yields to death and destiny. Yet the citation above shows that without dreams, the youngest three would not even have a realm. Dreams, apparently, have the capability to both create despair, delirium and desire, and to destroy them. This pattern can be taken much broader than shown in Three Septembers and a January.
The order that exists within the Endless suggests a power dynamic. As they are written, Gaiman seems to have presented them in order from most to least powerful. One can only exist because of its former. Death is bound by destiny, dreams would not exist if nothing was alive, despair/desire are fuelled by dreams, delight/delirium can be a direct consequence of achieving or rejecting the things that cause you desire or despair. Destruction was purposefully omitted in this list, his position between Dream and the twins seems strange. Destruction could have existed outside the Endless altogether; even without life, destruction is inevitable. He can be interpreted as an aspect of the second law of thermodynamics, which means that even without his actual presence, destruction would continue. A conclusion taken directly from Brief Lives. His complete existence and placement as part of the Endless serve as motivation for leaving, for abandoning his realm. The fact that he exists makes the fact that he leaves inevitable, creating the tragedy surrounding him; no other choice could have ever been made, him existing as himself is what damns him.
What still needs to be pointed out, is the capitalization of the word Lesson in Dream's speech bubble. This was an active decision by Klein, no other words starting with the letter 'L' are capitalized. Capitalization usually implies an (additional) importance connected to the word. In this case, it could imply the dual interpretation of the lesson learned within every Sandman comic: The lesson connected directly to the world of the Endless and the implications of the lesson on the "real" world. The conclusion about which lesson is learned in this story will therefore depend on who you are asking. The one I have taken away from it is told above. Despair might have missed it entirely. As with every good piece of literature, ultimately it is up to you.

Exploring Shadows and Light with Andrei Irimia's "Necessary Evil" When Andrei Irimia takes to the helm of a piece like "Necessary Evil", you might fancy yourself a wanderer in an acoustic labyrinth; each turn, a note that beckons with both promise and poignant hesitation. As the prelude to his forthcoming album, this instrumental single carves out space for itself by folding classical grandeur into cinematic scope—a melding of epic intention with an undercurrent of something darkly enchanting. https://youtu.be/oYXzOkDhNyM The opening bars trickle in gently with piano keys that could easily be raindrops on the windowpane of some late-autumn evening—introspective and meditative. It's as if time slows just enough for listeners to become cognizant of its dual essence: obstacle and vessel for our becoming. The piano lays down the fabric upon which richer tones are soon threaded—the melodious interplay between violin and cello blooms, articulating what feels like destiny entwined in notes. To call it 'relaxing' may well oversimplify the emotional cartography "Necessary Evil" charts out through its moody progression. There’s relaxation there, sure, but accompanied by tension—as though reminding us that repose is often hard-won. Consider moments when violins reach crescendos so profound they resonate within you long after they decline; think about how cellos assert their voice—sturdy yet soulful—casting shadows where light otherwise floods. This dynamic speaks volumes without uttering a word. Production-wise, there's precision balanced by raw feeling—the studio here acts not as cage but as crucible from which purity emerges. Each string seems plucked at precisely the right moment—not too rushed to clutter emotion nor too hesitant to lose impact. [caption id="attachment_52751" align="alignnone" width="1152"] Exploring Shadows and Light with Andrei Irimia's "Necessary Evil"[/caption] Finding parallels? For those acquainted with Netflix’s “Wednesday” series, picture her angst-laden elegance enmeshed within this song’s tapestry—an auditory cousin perhaps to the cello cover of 'Paint it Black'. Yet while connections abound, nothing here is derivative; every homage feels more nod than mimicry. “Necessary Evil”, thus spins a yarn seemingly conventional but fraught with unexpected turns. The quietude following swiftly behind seems less silence than breath drawn deep before life leaps forward once more—a necessary evil indeed. Whether heard through headphones during one’s daily commute or echoed throughout dim-lit chambers at dusk's hour—"Necessary Evil" offers sanctuary amid chaos sans ever demanding reason why we seek it in the first place. Waiting expectantly for what follows from Irimia is now akin to awaiting sunrise straddling night—it promises illumination bound up in mystery equally intense_and_intimately personal. After all isn’t every listening encounter partly about peeking within ourselves? If so—and trust me on this—"Necessary Evil" mirrors back complexities wondrously diverse amidst harmonies profoundly singular. Now press play… allow your own narrative amidst these chords unfurl! Redemption's Embrace
Pairing: Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader) x OC (Dragoness)
Warnings: Intense action, violence, emotional turmoil
Blurb: In the aftermath of a battle that shook the galaxy, Dragoness faces the ruins of her past. With the dark lord defeated, she extends a hand to the fallen Anakin Skywalker. Choices hang in the balance, and as they navigate the wreckage, a journey of redemption and rediscovery unfolds amidst the echoes of a once-shattered love.
Tumblr media
In the ethereal glow of the stark light, a sinister chuckle escaped your lips, resonating in the tension that hung like a shroud. The gaze of both Luke and Darth Vader shifted, their attention drawn to your entrance, a silhouette against the radiance. The emptor, a malevolent specter, sneered at you with a cheerless glare.
"Seems you've conveniently forgotten about me, scum," you hissed, your voice a venomous whisper that sliced through the silence. Determination burned in your eyes as you locked eyes with the emptor, who reveled in his dark mirth. "This time, I won't let you get away."
The emptor's mocking words slithered through the air, attempting to poison your resolve. "Oh, is that so, dragoness? How come you've not killed my lord Vader yet? Still clinging to that twisted love, even after all he's done, even though he's forsaken you," he taunted.
With a defiant resolve, you drew your light saber, its hum resonating like a distant lament. The vile man's words, a storm of bitterness, echoed in your ears, but you pushed them aside. Thoughts of your daughter fueled your strength, urging you to stand tall. For her and for the possibility of a future with Luke, you steeled yourself.
Ignoring the emptor's venom, you turned the radiant blade towards the black-masked Darth Vader. A deep growl rumbled in your throat as you compelled him to follow your lead. The purple light of your saber danced in the shadows as you struck, cutting through the air and biting into Vader's shoulder. The clash of lightsabers and the hiss of energy filled the space, a symphony of defiance against the darkness that sought to engulf you.
Locked in a deadly dance, the clash of lightsabers echoed through the air as you and Anakin found yourselves at swords point. A sly smirk played on your lips as you addressed him, "Still think you can win over me, Anakin? It's cute, really. You do remember—"
Before he could respond, you swung your blade with swift precision, severing the walkway beneath. The dark lord plummeted, the structure crashing down upon him, leaving Luke gasping at the sight of his struggling father.
As Vader lay beneath the debris, you turned your dual sabers towards Anakin's throat. There was a hint of sorrow in your gaze as you pleaded, "We could've lived a happy life, you, Luke, and Saphira. Please, there is still hope." The words, like a delicate plea, hung in the air as you looked into Vader's bug-like eyes, hoping for a glimmer of the man he once was.
Vader grunted, "Anakin Skywalker is dead, dragoness. There's no love for you in my heart anymore." Your eyes flashed with a hundred emotions, and you laughed, a sound laced with bitterness.
"Liar," you whispered, but before anyone could react, your saber impaled Lord Sidious's chest. A primal scream of pain tore through the room as the light sword cleaved through his heart. Lord Sidious slumped, lifeless, and the dark presence that had hung heavily began to dissipate. The room fell into a heavy silence, the battle's tumult replaced by the weight of the choices made and the destiny altered.
Turning to Luke, you commanded, "Go to the ship, find Saphira, and meet me back at the base." The dirty-blond nodded, a mix of relief and determination in his eyes, and swiftly departed.
You then extended a hand to Vader, addressing him with a mix of firmness and hope, "Your master is dead. It is your turn to make a choice, Anakin. Come home with me, embrace the love and life we once wanted together, or stay and let the flames consume what's left." The fate of Darth Vader hung in the balance, a pivotal moment where redemption or continued darkness awaited his decision.
He grunted, and a gloved hand clasped yours. A warm smile crossed your face as you led him away from the wreckage. The path to redemption was paved with uncertainty, but your hope for a new beginning burned bright as you and your once-lost love walked together, leaving the remnants of the dark past behind.
