LAST STEP try n catch anything i just extremely fuckin hate before posting. i have a fuckton of pattern brushes ive either made frm free images or bought from somewhere that i couldnt remember if i tried. i do not keep track of jack shit my brush library is a MASSACRE. anyway this is the only part im kinda careful w if i truly deeply do not feel like redrawing over parts i cover up. sometimes ill add patterns before details to make it easier on myself but it all depends on how much im using my brain which is not much and not often.

im so sorry i dont have any sick tricks im literally the laziest bitch i know

EDIT this is only if i do a clean draw or whatever, when im being lazy and messy i literally just draw like u would paint w acrylics or do papercraft, one layer on another. EASY PEASY

Someone was calling for him. But there was a ringing on his ears and his head hurt. The cap on his head with the chipped borders, protected him from the annoying white light of the school´s infirmary. He had been sent there during E.P. After he had refused to continue doing sit-ups because of the pain. In the distance, he heard a sigh.

“Serra”

“Don´t call me that” the boy´s lips moved instantly.

The guy with the white lab coat let out a sigh.

“Sorry, Muller. But I can´t do anything if you don´t show me what´s wrong” the boy exhaled, trying to dissimulate how much it pained him to do even that.

“Can´t you feel it above the clothes or something?” the boy tried to negotiate. The shame swallowing whole. The man gave him an exasperated frown as reply. Muller sighed, wetting his lips before putting his hands on the dirty gym shirt. The last tower standing between him and the reality the doctor shouldn´t see. Shouldn´t know. “Please?”

“Muller…” that tone was the signal to drop it. So he braced and lifted it up to the man, straying his eyes to a corner. The man´s eyes turned into brown plates, mouth hanging disgusted at the way his bones looked like they were trying to pop out the thin layer of bruised skin. 

“Oh my god…” he exhaled just before he saw the shirt fall. The man opened his mouth a few times. Like a fish trying to breath out of the water. Gasping for just a bit of precious oxygen. But he was just a man who rubbed the side of his head and leaned on to him with those eyes full of pity he didn´t want. “I know you´re no fighter, Muller. You´re the quiet kid with regular notes. Can you tell me where did you really get those?”

He stayed quiet. Locking his jaw as he breathed in.

If he said the truth it would be worse. It would hurt and not only for him. It would be bad and even worse for Annie. Who was in class. Surely talking with her friends and bragging about the cake he had bought for her birthday. Smiling despite the bandages on her wrist.

He had tried before. To tell someone with authority about his father. He had been hopeful. They had patched him up and let him bath and eat a normal meal. But what happened then was that he was sat in a cold room with a chair in the middle. Talked with a woman that simply took notes, before giving him back to the man they had told him he wouldn´t see again. Just to go straight back home and resume what had made him call child services in the first place.

“I got into a fight” He said.

“Tell me the truth”

“I got into a fight”

“It won´t change anything if I say the truth or not” Muller said with red eyes lit up in rage.

“Serra…”

“Don´t call me that. I got into a fight and lost. That´s the truth” The ringing on his ears went up. “Just…Just do your damn job and give me something for the pain, doc” the boy said scrunching his eyes, passing a hand over them roughly, in hopes it would end the headache. His dad had grabbed the broom on his hands while he cleaned the living room´s floor of the carpet of beer cans. Said the sound woke him up. So he shoved him to the floor and let it rain down until it broke. Then he had lost interest and gone back to sleep. That´s when he could scramble outside. Forgetting his backpack on the way.

The doctor let out a long, long breath that just made Muller grit his teeth. He finally rolled down to a cabinet. Unlocked it and let his fingers navigate the few pill cases there were. Nothing strong. Nothing that would stop the fear and the pain forever. Just a pill of ibuprofen.

Muller wasn´t amused in the slightest, but it would help. That and a bit of ice on his eye. The doctor put a bag of it on his lap. Taking off the cap, he let his head hang. Letting the cool sensation of the ice wash the pain away.

“Lay down and don´t take the pill just yet, ok? Do you like sandwiches, Muller?” He asked digging on his backpack next to the desk. Taking out his wallet.The boy snapped his healthy eye open going red of embarrassment. Of course, you need to eat something before taking pills and that had happened yesterday afternoon. Around seventeen hours ago.

It vaguely reminded him of Don, the doctor’s clinic where appointments were profusely refused to be paid and the man even gave them his own children’s old clothes. The boy had tried to keep the smell when he did laundry, but it inevitably started to smell like his father at some point.

“Y-yes, Thank you…” he muttered before the man turned to the door. Or tried to, before the albino grabbed his wrist. “Doc, please, don´t tell anybody about this” the man gave him a pained look as the ice bag slipped off his face. “I…Albinos bruise easily…it was just a fight I lost. Please…” Muller hoped it was enough. He was aware he was known among his classmates as a troublemaker. Coming with bruises and scratches almost every day kept people at an arm length. He would use that. He could use it and keep people away from the truth. That he didn´t search for trouble because going back home was enough.

Just so she wouldn´t need to do the same.

The man slowly put away the boy´s hand. “It´s absolutely impossible to call someone, Muller? Child services?” he knelt next to him. Taking the ice pack that had slid to his lap and putting it against his swollen eye. “You don´t have anyone you could stay with? Just for a while?”

The boy´s face went dark. Even as it formed an ironic smile.

“Why would I be here if I had a place like that, Doc?”

When he went back to class, patched up and cradling his ribs, changed into his normal wear from the secret backpack on his locker, to enter art class. He saw a few people muttering something when he came inside the classroom before pulling his cap down. Looking at his red sneakers as he navigated to his seat at the front. Then tried to blink into focus the words on the board.

“Free assignment. High contrast. Acrylics. Due next Wednesday. Be sure to return the materials clean and dry. Be creative!”

Muller sighed slowly. They weren’t sure if they really had a teacher or if they were being given classes by a ghost, as they would have the instructions written on the board and had to leave them on the desk that day or the date written. Receiving their scores through email he had to check on the library.

It was odd, but it was also easier to not be disrupted on the only place he could take his cheap mp3, put the earphones to silence the room and just paint. His moment of full relaxation of the week.

After putting the earphones, he had no idea what to paint, however. He stared at it with a pencil on his hand for a long time, drumming it into his jeans, until an idea came to his head, making him smile. He rolled up the sleeves of his oversized sweater and dipped into sketching light lines over the smooth surface. Halfway through an upbeat song, he felt eyes on him. Brown eyes staring into the purple of his forearm. Not shiny from the cream the doctor had rubbed on it to numb out the pain anymore.

Muller rolled back down the sleeve, pulling his eyes away, before he stood up to grab the paint tubes in the other side of the room. A few girls scooting away as they spotted him. Always looking down, averting his sight from other’s curious eyes.

Two hours of work later, the black paint had reigned over the canvas. He had had to squint harder to get the tiniest little details of it right. Using negative space to frame the silhouette of fruit plate, a candlestick with hanging jewels and a chalice. Leaving them completely white.

Happy with the result and having played the list four times, he accidentally put the brush with black paint over his cheek. Rubbing it away just smudging it. Letting out a groan, he noticed nobody was there anymore. Had left their half assed paintings on the desk or simply left.

He began to pick up the dirty brushes left from his classmates and went to the sink to clean them thoroughly like always. He didn’t need thanks, but it would be easier if they didn’t try to put out the desperation of the exam periods on the poor brush by smashing them open. There always was one that couldn’t be saved. He was about to throw it out, right when he saw the bruise on his forearms. Going darker in long stripes.

He pressed his lips together as he dipped the brush into the white paint and stroked his arm with it. The cool sensation of the sticky material covering his bruised skin, almost melting into his natural color made him do the same to his other arm.

When he finished it was almost as if he hadn’t fled his house after being hit with a broom that morning. It had been so easy to cover them as it was easy to wipe it off in a rush for the next class. Half finishing up and putting the painting on the desk. Trying to run as fast as he could, when he heard someone coming closer.

The woman saw him scramble outside the classroom as she went in through the other door. She just came in to take the paintings to her car to evaluate, but that time she found herself absorbed on the painting. Taking it into her hands, shocked. Noticing to a smile the same little “A. M.” Painted on the far corner, always there on her favorites of the class. She turned to the door, light brown wavy hair jumping swiftly at the motion.

She put the painting on top of the others as she marched back to the parking spot her old Tsuru was on. She would make sure to arrive early next time and offer him that little place on the students exhibition.

She did wake up early, to most of her disgrace and her co worker’s surprise. She did arrive to class with the announcement of the school’s artistic exhibition, spooking her students and earning groans, but she didn’t see a kid with a white ponytail in oversized clothes. Not the next week, or the one after that.

His painting hanged on large boards among other student’s works, regardless. But he never came back to see it

Today I’m reviewing the new ITS Season 13 Tournament Pack, which contains 2 new models cast in Corvus Belli’s new plastic material and one model that has been available for awhile but that I haven’t yet had a chance to review. You can order the box from the infinity site. Note: Since I don’t actually have a copy of this ITS box I won’t be reviewing the non-model content. However, I recently was gifted the Aristeia! Tournament Pack which includes Fiddler, and I was very pleased by the contents of that pack! Back when I was a Warcor I used to regularly buy ITS packs to host events at my local game store. While those packs were always stuffed with Infinity swag, I was never particularly impressed by much of it. In fact, very often after an event I’d end up with lots of extra items because my players weren’t particularly interested in the random assortment of posters, buttons, acrylic tokens and weapon packs that came with each set. This new pack is full of high quality items, and I’m both impressed and surprised!

Sargosh Special Tournament Exclusive Edition (Combined Army/Shasvastii)

Design (9): All of the Jayth share a design that I find very appealing. The standard new Shasvastii details combine with some bulkier and boxier elements like the boots and chest armor to create a really appealing look. The Jayth appear intimidatingly brutal. Sargosh is a pretty standard Jayth, with what appears to be a slight variation of his armor/harness and a partially exposed face. The lack of the full Jayth visor allows us to see most of Sargosh’s face, which both gives him character and sets him apart from the other Jayths. His standout feature is of course his enormous drill weapon. Mounted on his left arm with a complicated servo harness that connects to his back, the giant weapon is unconventional and intimidating.

Sculpt (9): There’s so much good sculpting here, but lets focus on two areas. First, Sargosh’s face is just really nice. New Shasvastii faces are complicated and detailed, and very, very alien. Sargosh’s face is actually understated, with a simple expression that relays determination and intent. He stands out among other Shasvastii as a unique looking individual. His expression is subtle instead of overblown, but that works just fine! The second area I’d like to point out is the drill weapon and it’s harness. There’s so much going on with this complicated piece of kit, and it would be easy for it to become a jumbled mess of conflicting details (like the recent Morat hackers). Instead, the elements of the weapon and harness are built in a believable way that makes it immediately obvious what we’re looking at. The weapon itself is bulky, but its bulk is made out of fine interlocking parts that detail a tool that looks convincingly industrial and functional. The harness includes an exoskeleton element, muscle fiber and connection points that work with the body’s form to create a readable silhouette. This could have been a complicated mess, but instead the weapon (and entire left side of the model) is a trove of interesting detail that really makes Sargosh stand out.

Pose (7): This pose is certainly just fine, and matches Sargosh’s subtle expression. However, the version of Sargosh that came in a Dire Foes pack awhile back had such a great pose that this one kind of pales in comparison.

Zeta Unit Special Tournament Exclusive Edition (0-12)

Sculpted by: ??? Painted by: ??? Design (8): The Zeta unit is, in a lot of ways, a very standard (and even generic) Infinity TAG. In the old days of 1st and 2nd edition Infinity we used to think of the Armored Calvary (we call it the Squalo now) and the Guija as the generic TAGs, and the Zeta fits right in with them appearance wise. Generic does NOT mean bad in this context. Not at all! Rather, the Zeta Unit is an attractive design that I think has a broad appeal, and can make a great centerpiece for an army. It’s blockish geometric shapes are a great contrast to the smooth lines of PanO and Yujing TAGs. It is exactly the kind of design that I think of when I think of a TAG, and while I enjoy TAGs of all shapes and sizes, I appreciate that the Zeta fills it’s visual niche so completely. I especially enjoy the bulky elements attached to the back of the model. I’m not sure what those are meant to represent (extra ammo?), but it very much makes the Zeta Unit look like a front forward facing war machine that hides vital equipment on it’s back behind the bulk of it’s armored torso. Sculpt (8): The Zeta is full of blocky hard edges that curve into peaked surfaces. Small details like under-armor plates and the piping found around the ribs and lower torso could easily become messy and difficult to read, but the sculpting is so nice and clean here that these features are easily distinguishable without standing out and drawing attention from the overall silhouette. Pose (8): A very generic pose for a very generic TAG. Again, generic isn’t a bad thing in this context. The Zeta’s pose is very much a standard attention-getter, with a wide stance and raised second gun that make it a nice centerpiece. The stance is powerful, but still slightly dynamic, with the model’s weight nicely shifted to the right leg. Overall score: 8/10

Fiddler, Aristeia’s Ex-Toymaker Tournament Exclusive Edition (NA-2)

Note: A friend recently gifted me this Aristeia! Tournament Pack after I told them I was eager to get my hands on Fiddler and add her to my Druze. Unlike most of the models I’ve reviewed in this blog, I was able to look at Fiddler in person before I wrote my review.  Design (10): Wow! I absolutely love this model! I was super excited to learn that Fiddler was available for Druze, since it meant I’d have a good excuse to buy and paint her. Fiddler has a lot of simple design elements that combine into a really satisfying model. Her outfit is almost casual, with striped pants tucked into boots, a poofy hooded jacket and a cute hairstyle with an undercut. She honestly looks like she wouldn’t be out of place in my hometown of Portland, OR. However, her chunky boots, teched-up torso and mechanical tail make it very clear that Fiddler isn’t just out for coffee.  The big eye catching element is of course the enormous unicycle wheel. Fiddler comes with three of them (one for herself, and two for her Jackbots) and they look very cool. The big chunky wheels look industrial, and I have no problem believing those treads could carry her right up a staircase or the side of a wall!  The fittings of both the wheel and Fiddler’s boots give them the same feel as power tools or other heavy construction equipment, and makes it clear that while Fiddler isn’t a civilian, she’s not a military operative either.  The Jackbots are a hilariously dumb design, and I mean that in a good way. Literally just a normal shotgun mounted on a wheel, they reinforce the sense of playful recklessness and fun that is already present in the Fiddler model. In fact, I think the overall best word to describe Fiddler is “fun”! Sculpt (9): One of the things Infinity sculptors often do so well is contrasting textures. This is on full display with Fiddler, from her smooth almost swollen jacket to the wrinkles of her pants, to fine strands of her hair and the thick treads and dense angles of her cycle. Specifically, the soft surfaces of her jacket and pants contrast so nicely with her detailed mechanical torso and tail. Fiddler also has a fantastically sly expression that really suits her personality. In fact, everything I know about Fiddler comes from this model, but the model does such a good job if presenting her that I feel like I know exactly who she is.  The only detail I don’t care for is the trail of sparks behind he model’s wheel. I get what they were going for and it certainly doesn’t look bad. But it doesn’t look great either. Pose (10): When people use the term “dynamic” to describe a model they often mean something like the famous “backflipping” Monks (it’s worth noting that the Monk was actually doing a cartwheel, not a backflip). But what dynamic actually means is constant change, motion or progress, and its a great word for describing Fiddler’s pose. This model is MOVING! The sense of motion and balance conveyed by Fiddler is palpable. Her body is nearly bent in half to stay balanced on top of her wheel, and her slight lean to the side and twist at the waist to look over her shoulder adds a huge amount of character to a model already full of it. Her flowing hair and jacket and curling tail just enhance the sense of motion. But my favorite detail of the pose is a little more subtle. The way her shock baton casually rests on her shoulder, almost tucked away against her neck, conveys such a sense of confidence, and tells us she’s not worried about her balance or her ability to maneuver, even though she has a large rifle in her other hand. Fiddler knows what she’s doing! Overall score: 9.6/10 Note: Apparently both Sargosh and the Zeta Unit are cast in a new resin/plastic material Corvus Belli calls “Injected Thermoplastics”. If you’re interested you can read Corvus Belli’s official announcement and a long thread on the topic here. I haven’t been able to see Sargosh or the Zeta for myself, but Fiddler’s Jackbots are cast in this material, and I've had a chance to work with them. The material is incredibly light (I think the base is heavier than the model itself) but seems durable and takes detail well. I had no complaints about the Jackbot’s datil or casting. There weren’t even any mold lines to clean! However, the Material is  not as durable as metal. One of my Jackbot’s shotguns came off very easily while I was gluing the model to it’s base. This can be easily pinned, and certainly this kind of thing happens with metal models as well.

Painting And Drawing: Is There A Difference?

Do you still believe that portrait painting and drawing are the same? Well, ok, they both belong to the art but they aren't identical terms. They overlap though.

Drawing is mostly creating lines that are arranged to form shapes, silhouettes. Very frequently, designs are created by drawing. For drawing, pencils, chalk, charcoal, a pen can be used.

Painting is about creating forms and values. There might be a shape or silhouette but it is not necessary. For painting, paints are used. 

Shall You Make a Drawing before You Paint?

Often a question arises whether you shall draw before you paint. Some people draw and then paint their drawings while others prefer to create an oil painting directly without making any designs. 

There is a common belief though that before you start with oil painting, you shall have a solid background in portrait drawing or drawing in general. However, once you are skilled enough, you can choose your own way of creating your pieces. 

Some people believe that for some painting styles, skills are not needed. For example, such a famous art style as abstract painting is criticized a lot by people who don`t understand the art and don`t know the art history. 

While it is correct that one doesn't have to be good at portrait drawing to paint an amazing self-portrait or any other abstract piece, it doesn't mean that anybody can do it. To paint a good abstract piece, one shall have an incredible feeling of colour and shape and have the finest painting skills. 

You cannot just grasp a box of paints and start throwing them onto canvas. Well, you can do it but it will not be a real painting, and thus, it will not be appreciated. 

Behind every paint stroke of a real painter, there is a depth of thought, feeling, empathy, and the most complicated task is to transfer it to the viewers. If a painter manages to make the viewers feel like he does, maybe not the same feelings but the same intensity, only then, the painting can be regarded as a success. We can tell it about abstract oil painting, too. 

Drawing and Realistic Painting

With realistic painting, completely different criteria apply. To be able to paint realistic objects or moreover, for realistic portrait painting, you need to learn to draw very well. While still, every painter has his/her own way to paint, but it is recommended to draw first. Then, one can use the drawing as a foundation for a painting. 

Some Things Are Harder to Draw, while Others Are Harder to Paint

What is more complicated though? Painting or drawing? It all depends on many factors again:

- Sharp detailed objects are easier to draw than to paint. For example, you can pretty effortlessly draw a city skyline with a pencil but drawing it might be challenging. 

- Your skills matter, too. While some people are great at drawing, they might be not so skilled in handling paints. And for some, both drawing and painting are fine.

- Paints can be different, too. While water-based or acrylic paints are pretty easy to use, painting with oil can be challenging. 

Is There the Most Complicated Way to Paint?

It depends on an artist whether he prefers drawing or painting. The same applies to a way to paint: some artists work with acrylic paints while others prefer oil. Though commonly, painting with oil is considered to be the most complex way to create art pieces. There are several factors that increase the complexity of oil on canvas creation. One of them is the time needed for paint to dry.

It is normal that for painting, an artist needs to put several layers of paint. Oil paint is known for drying very slowly. A couple of days might pass until you are able to put the second paint layer. It makes the process more time-consuming. Of course, you can paint all in one layer but to do so, you have to be very skilled. This is one of the main challenges when painting portraits. To make the skin look natural, a painter needs to put multiple layers. Every lower layer influences greatly on how the upper layers look.

It doesn't mean though that water-based paints are easier to manage. Everybody has this experience: they flow all around the painting, the colours mix, and if you don`t find the right way to handle them, your painting might become a mess. 

Acrylic paints are also far from perfection. They dry so fast that any proper blending is almost impossible.

Find Your Way and Enjoy It

Every artist has his own way of perceiving the world and recreating it. While some prefer drawing, others like oil painting. Thus, if you are in painting or drawing, choose your own way and create your masterpieces!

“God, it’s creepy in here in the dark like this,” you remark in a hush. In the large marbled hall, your footfalls on the steps echo more than your whispering. Minghao lets out an amused giggle that flickers through the low-lit space.

He stops on one of the stairs to look at you trailing just behind. “Do you want to hold my hand?” It’s an offer and a challenge all in one. A jovial teasing clinging to the words in just the right way to make you scowl at him ever so slightly. Without a doubt, you already know he’d laugh louder if you said you did. That it wouldn’t be the last you hear about being a easily spooked by the darkened rooms of the art museum.

“I don’t know why your security friend couldn’t have turned a light on. Is all I’m saying.” You take it upon yourself to carry on up the steps. You might not know exactly where you need to go, but up is certainly easy enough to figure out. It only takes Minghao a few moments to catch up with you. “Or wait till the whole official opening tomorrow,” you point out as an alternative to this late-night excursion.

It’s a fair one. Maybe he ought to have waited. Maybe you’d be in better spirits tomorrow, after managing to get some kind of sleep in after your flight out. “I guess I lost my patience,” Minghao says. He’s the one to take your hand, unasked, at the top of the flight, and starts to lead you down the hallway stretching out to left.

The wooden floor is glossy even in the lack of light. “When you said you couldn’t wait for me to get here, you know, I kinda thought you meant here as in just with you. Not specifically at the museum.”

“It’s both,” he assures you. Distance was difficult, of course. Perhaps as difficult as all the networking and the work that went into getting anywhere in the art world. Old painted faces sit in ornate frames on the wall as you pass by. Acrylic and oil eyes watching on silently. Somehow he feels they’re the only ones to know just how tightly his nerves begin to coil with every step.

The doors into to the special temporary display are closed. They look wider than Minghao remembers them from earlier this morning. Heavier, despite being just the same dark wood as they’ve been from the first time he stepped foot in the museum. He draws to a stop, and lets himself look at you.

Really look at you. As closely as one can without proper lighting. Part of him feels it only takes an outline. That he could recognize you from a silhouette alone. All the same, there are details that give him pause. There’s a tiredness in your eyes – proof of the long day of travel you’d endured. And then there’s every part of your face that shifts when you smile puzzledly at his sudden quiet stall.

For only a moment, all the tension dissipates out of Minghao. It’ll be fine. He feels it humming through his mind as he looks into your eyes in this silent moment.

Once he reaches for the doorknob, though, anxiousness creeps back up his spine. The traces of sleepiness he’d spotted on your expression flashing through his mind, accuse him of some kind of selfishness. Maybe it isn’t worth keeping you away from a bed for any longer than necessary.

He turns the handle all the same. He lets you pass into the room first, and steps in after you to fumble against the wall for the lightswitch.

By the time he finds it, you’ve already made it to the middle of the gallery room. The fixtures overhead flicker on a moment after he turns it on. The contrast makes Minghao shut his own eyes for a moment. He keeps them shut a moment longer than he needs to, compelled by that pesky tension at the back of his neck and in his jaw. The one so nervous to see your reaction.

When he opens them, you’re still in the middle of the room. Your lips parted as you take a slow, careful look around the room. You stop, facing the right hand wall. Minghao feels absolutely breathless as he watches a broad, bright smile work its way slowly across your features. His heart keels to see you looking at the wall adorned with his own paintings without him even needing to point them out.

“Come here,” you beckon him without glancing away from the wall.

Minghao complies, stepping lightly. Like too loud a noise could shatter the moment. He lets himself slip behind you in the empty room; lets his arms come around your middle in a loose embrace that’s much needed with all the tension releasing out of him now.

“What do you think?” He works up the nerve. Where he’s sure he wouldn’t have been able to tomorrow, not with other people looking on. Only barely, though. The words barely there against your temple as he tries to look at his own work from your exact same perspective.

“I’m so proud of you,” you answer, barely louder than he’d asked. “It’s amazing, you know,” you add as you turn your head to try to get a good look at Minghao.

In the light of the gallery room, he can take in every bit of you with all the more clarity.  He hopes you know why it couldn’t wait. Why he wanted the first time you saw the first works of his hanging in a museum to be a private moment instead of a gala. His arms unravel from around you to take both your hands in his instead. Wordlessly, you lean into him.

It’ll be fine, he knows.

8. When they think of ‘home’ what do they think of? - both smol and tol Tonia x

To an extent, both of them imagine the same thing when they think of home - a large house on the outskirts of Morepesok, bordered by everygreen pines and painted with a fresh coat of winter snow.

A house that was constantly creaking from wind and the steps of several people, always wandering in and out, doing this and that, filling its empty space with the clutter of several members' hoarding and their warm laughter.

But that's where the similarities end.

For the older Tonia, she has a picture-perfect and memory-perfect vision of an idyllic family life, filled with several half-siblings, most going their own ways throughout the world but always returning home at some point. For that Tonia, she pictures herself standing in the doorway, a bit shorter and younger, waving at her siblings or parents to come in from the cold so they can enjoy the latest batch of baked goods she made, while everyone trades stories anew.

It's a picturesque memory in sharp acrylic, accompanied by the nostalgic scent of apples and cinnamons.

For the younger Tonia though, her memory is not as clear or strong as her older counterpart. The house has blurred edges, and its inhabitants are similarly vague in detail. She can recollect a few names to go with the silhouettes combing her hair and giving her bedtime stories, but everything else is so fleeting to her. Sometimes, the smell of warm honey evokes an uncertain feeling of home - sometimes, an unfamiliar chuckle makes her think of her parents and siblings for no reason.

She knows there are familiar things that serve to bind her to her home. But conjuring them into something true and concrete - it's like watercolors, bluish and faint, easy to wash away with time. The only true thing she holds in her mind's eye is that home is warm, lovely, and she wants to go back to it someday. Someday.
