Astarion has ascended, and she has stayed with him. Life in the Crimson Palace isn’t as idyllic as it seems. Is there a chance for their relationship to go back to how it was? Or is it too late for the Ascendant and his consort?

This series is about Ban, my Tav, and the Vampire Ascendant. Will be angst and smut, with sprinkles of fluff.

This fic is a softer take on Ascendant!Astarion and of the changes he undergoes after the rite. Can Ban handle the change, and if a chance came, would she choose to run? And can the Ascendant win her back in time?

Inspired by the concept of vampire wives and that IGN interview with Larian that discussed the ascension.

Morning

“The Lord is risen indeed.”

John 20:1-17

She and her companions had inquired, “Who shall roll us away the stone?” and lo, they found it gone. God often removes our difficulties out of the way long before we come to them.

John 20:7

If any had stolen the body by night, they certainly would not have left the grave-clothes, much less have folded them up. Our Lord came forth at his leisure, not as one who breaks his prison, but as a captive lawfully delivered. Jesus has made the grave a furnished chamber for our repose, and the napkin by itself may serve to dry the mourner’s tears.

Though repeated to them so often, they had not seen the real meaning. What need there is of the Holy Spirit’s teaching!

John 20:13

Heaven was rejoicing over the risen Lord, the glad fact was an assurance of joy to earth, why then did this holy woman weep? It was ignorance which kept her in sorrow. If we would learn more of the truth concerning Jesus, we should soon find consolation.

Her love made her feel equal to anything; however ghastly and heavy the burden she would bear it, love would make it light.

In the swinging pendulum of yellow light Heart Srisevok seemed utterly disinterested. She examined a chip in her nail polish lips curling meanly. Still it seemed even another planet wasn’t far enough away from her father. If she was lucky she’d never speak to him again - but she’d never been a lucky kind of woman.

Cybernetic enhancements and drugs she couldn’t even have dreamed up. There was no chance of her being SIGHIR that was certain and she didn’t allow viruses in the club. Her smile was wicked as she spoke.

“All my tests were negative. But you can check my papers if you like - you seem terribly interested in me.”

Lorenzo charges awful late fees.” This was the game - play the glittering, tequila-scented party girl and leave them none the wiser about the HEXTECH stored in the closets of Nexos or the gun safe in her apartment.

Anyway, I used to be a VORACIOUS reader, but kind of stopped as I got older and life got in the way. I'm trying to pick it back up again, but the pressure to write (my own doing) usually outweighs my want to read, especially given what's popular these days. I've had looooooooong conversations about how hard it is to find something actually good to read with the rise of Booktok, and not just stuff that's following a formula because it's what's popular or because it has smut. Smut does not a good story make, ya know?

I haven't heard of that book! What's it about??

Okay so I have a I crossover request idea sdra2 Nikei befriending a slightly more calmer ,than the other of its kind,hyehehe headcanons?Maybe he could have met it like from washing up the island somehow? The Hyehehe is kind of his bodyguard/Companion and like plays music for him when he gets a bit sad? :0 also it stops being calm and pranks whoever is mean to him and telling him about other monsters and how they work,etc.

Tbh, Nikei would be straight-up freaked out by a Hyehehe at first glance.

He'd think they're Mikado's pet or something that belonged in Satsuki Land with all the clowns and shit.

It should've been impossible for them to get inside the simulation...yet he found them on the beach anyways.

Unlike others of their kind, this Hyehehe was a lot calmer and didn't like to cause a ton of trouble. And they could speak human language, which prompted the Ultimate Journalist to conduct an interview with them.

"Is your talent the Ultimate Court Jester?? Are you an actual hyena or a guy in a costume?????"

They're surprisingly informative, telling Nikei about the Monster World where they came from (specifically Earth Island), and showing off how they make music.

Seeing their ears vibrate to produce a harmonious sound akin to an electronic organ fascinated him.

Throughout the killing trip, they stick by him as a canine companion. They don't know anything about Void and don't need to abide by the school rules--so they just kinda do whatever.

If Nikei's agitated with Mikado or getting paranoid about being found out, they'll let him pet their fur as he rants or play softer music to help him calm down.

I hc he often writes as a way of venting, so he'll do that while the Hyehehe stays right beside him, making sure he's not bothered.

Speaking of Mikado, they won't hesitate to play some tricks on him or Monocrow.

The rest of the class doesn't know what to make of this weird dog, but if they trust Nikei then maybe they could trust him, too.

David Whyte, every real conversation

I started reading David Whyte’s Consolations in June last year, when I badly needed what the book’s subtitle offered: The Solace, Nourishment and Underlying Meaning of Everyday Words. I was in despair, to put it mildly, and so I read his essay on despair:

Despair is a difficult, beautiful necessary, a binding understanding between human beings caught in a fierce and difficult world where half of our experience is mediated by loss, but it is a season, a waveform passing through the body, not a prison surrounding us.

Six months later, as another year begins, I am now rereading his book. That season of despair has passed. His essays, like his poems, continue to give me space and light to find a way out of my prison.

In Consolations, Whyte lets me find my way out by finding my way back in. He leads me back into the conversation about what it truly means to be human. He gives me back the gifts borne by such words as joy, maturity, robustness, and solace. But he also encourages me to face life’s difficult, beautiful necessaries. He describes difficult feelings or states of being (alone, besieged, disappointment, heartbreak, longing, vulnerability) as unpreventable, inescapable, natural, beyond our control.

Vulnerability, he says, “is not a choice. Vulnerability is the underlying, ever-present and abiding undercurrent of our natural state.” How we choose to live with vulnerability is how we carry the conversation, how we carry ourselves. On courage, he writes: “every real conversation of life involves having our hearts broken.” And “there is no sincere path we can follow where we will not be fully and immeasurably let down and brought to earth ....”

By conversation, by sincere path, he means engagement, presence, both tension and mediation, an in-betweenness. It is a willingness to stay where things aren’t fixed, where outcomes aren’t guaranteed. To him, every real conversation is a decision to reach out and reach in, to find connections or lose them. In words and the gaps between them, or the gaps created by them, a real conversation can carry broken threads. And broken hearts.

To converse is to bear witness to the brokenness and to hold space for the possibility of healing. And for the possibility of staying broken and sticking around in spite of—or maybe because of—questions unanswered, loves unrequited.

To converse. The verb traces its origins to Latin, Old French, and late Middle English: to “keep company (with),” to “live among,” to “be familiar with.” Whyte keeps repeating and reinvigorating the word “conversation” in poems, essays, interviews, and podcasts. He is reclaiming this and other words from their banal ties and barren associations. In a world where words are often misused, overused, or devalued, every real conversation is becoming more and more rare and necessary.

Books like Consolations and poems such as Whyte’s are real conversations worth having. They resonate beyond the chatter of social media. They are not prisons of divisive ideology or rigid belief. I reread his poem “The House of Belonging,” and, to borrow his words, “the veil had gone from my darkened heart.” To converse with Whyte, to listen to him, is to find “myself sitting up in the quiet path of light.”

The following begins to explain the murthi, or the form of the goddess along with all the crap you see hanging off of statues in Hindu temples and the objects they hold in their hands. Every Hindu knows the statues are not real. They are religious implements used to hone the mind. The Upanishad even says there is a science the mind must become versed in if one wants to achieve realization and achieve the Self; a statue without the science is just a lump of decorated stone:

The ability to read the scriptures, any scripture, and change the root causes of one’s behavior and thus the fruits of the actions is the power of the Devi, the device. We are experiencing extreme technical difficulties around the world as no one seems capable of reading the Beatitudes or the Prime Commandment and alter our path.

I will never forgive Kamala Harris for interviewing a child molesting terror monger as part of the interview process for the next US President. The implications of this alone to the spirit life on earth are devastating. The goal of the president is as the scripture says to “charm humanity out of its grief” and enact policies that relieve poverty, end wars, and suspend the disasters that are happening because of climate change.

And what is Kamala Harris doing? She is rolling the dice. She and Joe Biden are telling the world they prefer to sit on their hands rather than put them to good use. They are statues without the Science.

The noose is the rescuer, it is a lifeline. Our current president has always come up empty handed hasn't he? The bow and arrow are the words of the scripture, which are very precise. The hook is reminiscent of those used on elephants in India, it is used to guide the huge beasts like reins on a horse. The mind cannot be allowed to wander about and do whatever. It must be disciplined, it must be told the difference between right and wrong and made to obey.

These are simple ways to explain how to avoid evil and grief and attain to a world that abides in righteousness, but we can't name or follow a single principal associated with any of these or identify where they are at work in this nation or on planet anywhere can we?

Who Owns America?

On June 21, 2023, the Western Journal reported that an undercover journalist working for the O’Keefe Media Group secretly videoed several interviews with a BlackRock recruiter.

(Note: BlackRock is the world’s largest investment firm, it has about $10 trillion of assets, and it has more assets than any nation on earth except the U.S. and China. According to the article, the recruiter said BlackRock is known as “the company that owns the world” because they hold and manage a significant number of shares in almost all major corporations in the U.S. and many other parts of the world across all industries, including Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Google, Tesla, Coca-Cola, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, Exxon Mobil, Fox Corporations, Visa, Chevron, JPMorgan Chase, Walmart, and many more.)

Here is some of what the BlackRock recruiter said on video (his and my words):

The one who is really in charge is not the president of a country but the one who is controlling the wallet of the president.

The hedge funds, BlackRock, the banks. These guys run the world. They buy politicians.

It is called campaign financing. For $10,000 you can buy a U.S. Senator.

It doesn’t matter who wins. They’re in my pocket at this point.

I know what happens because I recruit people to do these things.

(My opinion: I cannot verify that the BlackRock recruiter’s statements are accurate, but I will say that I believe America has been sold out to people who are under the influence of Satan. America is no longer a nation under God. This fits Bible prophecy, it is a sign that the Rapture and Tribulation Period are near, and God will soon take back His Creation.)

(More: On June 26, 2023, it was reported that Pres. Biden recently (on June 22, 2023) met with India’s Prime Min. Modi, and Biden said, “I sold a lot of state secrets and a lot of very important things we shared.” According to the report, Biden’s confession that he sold a lot of state secrets is on the White transcripts of the meeting. He is either extremely incompetent, extremely corrupt, or both.)

(FYI: Concerning the last days, Paul said, “evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived” (II Tim. 2:1, 13).

Here are some recent events that indicate that we are getting close.

One, concerning a global digital ID, a one-world currency, and a cashless society: on June 20, 2023, it was reported that:

> Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), said the IMF is working on a global Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) system that can make cross-border payments “cheaper and quicker” while reducing the number of needed intermediaries.

> Georgieva suggested that a world government could help with the creation of a world currency because every nation must abide by the same rules.

> Bo Li, the Deputy Managing Director of the IMF, said CBDC transactional data (the record of what people buy and sell) could be used like it is in China to create social credit scores.

> A report by the World Economic Forum WEF) says some nations understand that a digital ID must be created before a trackable CBDC comes into being.

> The WEF report says even if people are not required by law to have a digital ID, they can be coerced into getting one by denying them access to goods and services (denying them the right to buy and sell) without one.

This sounds very much like the beginning of the system described in Revelation chapter 13, but it is coming from the IMF and the WEF, not the Bible.

Two, concerning a global digital ID linked to a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC): on June 21, 2023, it was reported that Antonio Guterres, Sec. Gen. of the UN, wants the nations to approve a global digital ID linked to everyone’s bank accounts at The Summit for the Future in Sept. 2024.

This is in addition to his calls for a global ID with information about people’s healthcare, views on climate change, views on gender equality, etc.

He wants this information so the UN can deal with those who are subverting the truth and spreading lies (people who contradict the UN’s dishonest propaganda).

(More: On June 22, 2023, it was reported that citizens in China are required to have a face scan and to be in good standing in China’s social credit system to buy gasoline for their vehicles.)

(More: On June 25, 2023, it was reported that the Federal Reserve Bank in New York has quietly rolled out a digital dollar (CBDC). They will soon be monitoring and regulating how New Yorkers spend their money, and it could spread to other banks within months.)

(FYI: Some do not seem to understand that the Mark of the Beast is not everyone having a different global ID number linked to their bank account. The Mark of the Beast is everyone taking the same number (the number of the Antichrist; 666), his name, or his Mark (Rev. 13:16-18). That will happen in the middle of the Tribulation Period. We are not in the Tribulation Period. No one has confirmed a 7-yr Covenant. The Antichrist cannot rise while the Restrainer (the true Church indwelt by Holy Spirit) is here. But everyone having a different number (global ID) linked to their Bank account is a major step in the development of a system that will require people to take the number, name, or Mark of the Antichrist at the middle of the Tribulation Period. The Antichrist system to track all buying and selling is “beginning to come to pass.” And do not take this lightly. Those that take the Mark will never be saved; Rev. 14:9-11.).

Three, concerning world government: on June 26, 2023, it was reported that in addition to what nations are already doing, French Pres. Emanuel Macron wants a global tax to fight global warming and poverty (sounds like a global welfare system).

Four, concerning subverting the truth and spreading lies: following the failure of a vote to censure and severely fine Congressman Adam Schiff for lying, misleading the U.S. public and conduct unbecoming a member of Congress over Hillary Clinton’s false allegation that Trump colluded with Russia, the severe fine was dropped, a second vote was taken, and it passed.

Adam Schiff has now been censored by the U.S. House of Representatives, and he will be investigated by the House Ethics Committee.

Our leaders would do well to remember that there will be a payday someday.

Five, concerning corruption and the decline of America: on June 21, 2023, Special Council John Durham was testifying before Congress about Hillary Clinton’s false allegation that Trump colluded with Russia, and he was asked, “How long do you think that this country will survive with a two-tiered justice system that seeks to persecute people on their political beliefs?”

Durham replied, “I don’t think that things can go too much further with the view that law enforcement, particularly the FBI or Department of Justice, runs a two-tiered system of justice. The nation can’t stand under those circumstances.”

As I understand it, Durham was saying the U.S. is a divided nation, and it will fall if something is not quickly done about the two-tiered justice system in Washington.

(More: On June 25, 2023, it was reported that a former FBI analyst was sentenced to 46 months in prison about a week earlier for possessing classified documents. Jim Hoff, writer of the article, asks, “What about Hillary, Mike Pence, and Joe Biden?).

Six, concerning the Battle of Gog and Magog: I am writing this on June 24, 2023, and it will be July 1, 2023, before it is posted, but there is a rebellion going on in Russia, Vladimir Putin and some of his staff have fled Moscow, and people are calling me and e-mailing me for my opinion about what is happening.

It is too early to tell, but I will say that I am on record as saying the EU will dominate the New World Order at the end of the age, and people often ask me, “What about Russia and China?”

We must understand that God’s Word is true, and it must be fulfilled exactly as He says.

If He needs to intervene in Russia, China, the U.S., or any other nation to put the EU in a dominant position, He can and He will, and He does not need a lot of time to do it.

Something that I find interesting is that Gog’s military will start fighting among themselves when they attack Israel (Ezek. 38:21), and there are competing factions in Russia’s military today.

There are many reasons to be concerned, but God is in control, and Russia/China will not lead the New World Order.

Ten Kings must appear first, three will be overthrown, and all of them will surrender their power to the Antichrist.

The Antichrist will come from the people that destroyed Israel in 70 A.D. (the EU, also called the Revived Roman Empire).

Russia is not doomed, tension is high, and Putin may or may not survive.

But Russia will regroup, and God will drag her onto the mountains of Israel in the latter years and latter days, and a weakened Russia will be on the scene when the Antichrist arrives.

Many prophecy teachers think Putin is Gog, but we do not know that, and if he is, he must die on the mountains of Israel (Ezek. 39:11), not in a rebellion in Russia.

Also, the fact that Gog will be buried in Israel is proof that he is not the Antichrist because the Antichrist will be cast alive in the Lake of Fire, not buried in Israel (Rev. 19:20).

Two different leaders ending in two different ways is proof that the Battle of Gog/Magog and the Battle of Armageddon are two different wars.

Another difference between the two wars is that The Battle of Gog and Magog is a 10-nation attack on Israel, but the Battle of Armageddon is a global army under the Antichrist.

(Update: The rebellion ended about 2-3 hours after I wrote the above. That is my opinion, and time will tell.).

Seven, On June 24, 2023, it was reported that the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture has approved the sale of lab-grown me in U.S. supermarkets and restaurants.

This is part of the U.S. government’s solution to climate change.

(My Opinion: I have heard people say they will not eat fake meat, worms, or bugs, but if it comes to that or starvation, many will eat these things to survive, and we know that there will be a terrible global famine after the Rapture.)

Eight, concerning a normalization of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia: on June 25,2023, Israel’s Foreign Minister said he thinks it will happen before Mar. 2024.

If it does, it would be a major step toward a covenant of peace between Israel and the Arabs.

FYI: God does not send anyone to Hell (all of us are born with a sin nature and destined to go there because we sin), but God provides a way for everyone to go to Heaven.

Finally, are you Rapture Ready?

If you want to be rapture ready and go to heaven, you must be born again (John 3:3). God loves you, and if you have not done so, sincerely admit that you are a sinner; believe that Jesus is the virgin-born, sinless Son of God who died for the sins of the world, was buried, and raised from the dead; ask Him to forgive your sins, cleanse you, come into your heart and be your Saviour; then tell someone that you have done this.

Aaron Tveit: I'm so excited for the Wicked movie to premiere. I'm very fortunate that I got to be a part of the Les Mis film and I think movie musicals are so special. I think that anytime that there's one that's done at this scale, I think it's just amazing for the genre and amazing for theater. This story in particular, I mean, I did Wicked 15 years ago on Broadway and so to see it finally realized in this way with the people that are in it, it' amazing. I can't wait to see it. I haven't seen it yet. I got invited to a couple screens and I couldn't go, [laugh] so I'm actually dying to see it. It's a really wonderful thing to be a small part of that history and to see it going on to what it's about to go on to. Kristen: Oh absolutely and I love the Les Mis mention. That's another show that's one of my absolute favorites. In the world of Broadway, anybody could take on a role and it changes. When someone's on stage, like one person different, and it's completely a whole different project. MARRIAGE IS SACRED, BUT A LIFE IS NOT?

“…..this commutation is not based on any rehabilitative efforts by the individuals on death row. Instead, it reflects the recognition that the death penalty is immoral. It is an irreversible punishment that does not allow for correction; is wasteful of taxpayer dollars; does not make communities safer; and cannot be and never has been administered fairly and equitably.” (1)

- Governor Kate Brown, of the U.S. State of Oregon, announcing her decision to commute the sentences of 17 precious human lives on death row, which to take effect on Dec. 14, 2022.

Several weeks ago, news reports of an interview with the former foreign minister of Singapore, Mr. George Yeo aroused my interest. It touched on a matter which David before, and ever since then his family, found to be of vital importance – our universal rights, as enshrined in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). (2) In my view, this 74-year old declaration is the single most illustrative and inspiring document ever created.

In the referenced interview reported on Oct 16, 2022 by the news outlet Independent.sg, Mr. Yeo said :

“government believes that marriage is sacred between man and woman.” (3)

This was in response to the impending de-criminalization of consensual sex between men, viz. colonial era Section 377a of the penal code. (4) There had been several legal challenges to it over the years which prompted the state to table a dual track bill in parliament. On Nov. 29, 2022, s377a was repealed and the rider Bill 156 was adopted. The latter provides/reinforces the institution of marriage as between a man and woman, that is, as defined by sex. (5,6). In essence, the legal remedies for state-mandated abuses or discrimination against the LGBTQ + community remain elusive in Singapore. If anything, the new law makes it quite impossible to secure equal rights for the community.

While the Singaporean government continues to defer accession or ratification to international conventions and treaties on human rights, many of which morphed from UDHR, (7) the latter’s spirit nevertheless must prevail, especially for those who are defenceless against the targeted abuses of the state. This aspect includes the denial of equal rights for a law-abiding community of citizens. To this end, the UDHR is a pivotal remedy. Its importance and relevance within our global community of nations cannot be overstated.

One may wonder, what is the relevance of Governor Brown’s decision on the commutation of the death penalties for the 17 prisoners on death row, to the question of Mr. Yeo’s determination on the sanctity of marriage?

The Singaporean government commits to one of the most draconian systems of criminal justice anywhere on earth. Over the decades, countless prisoners were put to death, many of whom were drug abusers/mules, as a 2004 Amnesty International report attests. (8) The rationale advanced by the state in support of capital punishment has never stood the test of reason. (9) Let’s consider this :

The state opines and mandates that marriage between a man and woman is sacred. That is to say, the act (marriage) performed by the subjects, (man and woman) is sacred. The state is not claiming that the subjects or their lives are sacred, only their act. The subjects, man and woman could be put to death if they were in breach of the laws against drug use, possession, trafficking, murder, terrorism, kidnapping and possession and/or discharge of unlicensed firearm. (10)

In one scenario, the state expresses deep concern about the moral behaviour between consenting adults in relation to their sexual preferences or gender identity, while in another, the government shows no compunction whatsoever to commit the “most shameful of murders”, as Nobel Prize recipient and David’s favourite author, Albert Camus states about capital punishment, in his superb novel on fascism and totalitarianism, aptly titled The Plague. (11)

Morality it seems, is arbitrarily defined and institutionalized in Singapore.

We applaud the moral and courageous decision of Oregon’s Governor Brown to spare the lives of the prisoners. Political leadership as hers is what is needed in Singapore and other domains where morality is twisted and weaponized to fit a perceivably social engineering, and in some notable respects, eugenics agenda.

My Pet peeves in ATLA fandom

I have collected some of my fandom pet peeves and decided to post them here to exorcise my annoyance, so to say.

1) it goes across all fandoms really. But I am very tired of fan profiling.

- If fans like character A they must be Z

- If fans hate character B they must be Y

- if fans ship characters C and D together they are necessarily eat babies, abuse puppies and eat spinach.

No, it doesn’t work like that. Sure, there are trends and common markers, but any individual likes and dislikes stuff for various personal reasons. Sometimes characters simply remind of someone else in real life. Sometimes we cannot discern a reason at all. It is fun to ponder, but sweeping generalizations are usually harmful.

2) Now, this pet peeve is rather specific. I hate when people call Aang a monk.

He was raised by monks, that’s it. He never refers to himself as a monk, he is never called one in canon, but fandom collectively decided that all Air Nomads were monks and nuns, and had to abide by all the rules Earth religions set out for the monastic orders. I occasionally see people complaining Aang does not behave like a Catholic monk is supposed to. Of course he doesn’t. Why would he?

3) more on Aang. Is he a self-insert for Mike DiMartino?

Well, Mike said several times in the interviews Aang is based on him in some regards.

In the same interview, he and Bryan said Zuko is based on Bryan in some regards.

And well, Dante Basco occasionally melds into Zuko and nobody minds much.

Who is the biggest self-insert of them all?

4) Everything I learned about creative process on Avatar the Last Airbender seems to indicate that the process was cooperative to the degree surprising in the industry. It was Mike and Bryan’s story but they listened and learned from everyone who worked on the story. There were a lot of ideas flying around in the writing room, some writers like one thing, others another. Some of those ideas ended up in the series, some were thrown out. Normal working process. Why do people need to turn it into a giant conspiracy and all-out shipping war, is beyond me.

Six days ago I posted I miss Sonoma. Unbeknownst to me I’d be here within a week. Within a few minutes of posting I received an email from my agency to interview with a client up here. Then a few days after that another client wanted to meet me as well. So now I’m up here to interview for two different positions. I’m honored...but mostly I’m scared. I booked my trip yesterday evening, unsure if I was making the right choice. I've been praying all along - Lord, close doors and open doors. So with the door still being opened, I decided to walk through it despite the pit in my stomach.

I woke up at 2am with a sense of dread. I felt I was making the wrong choice going up there - I'm scared. I told the Lord this - God, I'm scared. Please embrace me, please love me (I know he does, but I just prayed it), please hold me, and direct my footsteps. I'm not fearful, because to live in fear is a state - rather, I am scared. Which is something that you can feel and it can pass. I feel alone making big decisions for my family, and I've had to do so for a long time, but it never ceases to paralyze me still for a minute with making big decisions and thinking I'm doing the wrong thing. I second guess myself and am tempted to not rock the boat of our pretty consistent and sustained life. Our safe, provided-for life that I often feel a bit sad in. Like I'm settling. Like I don't belong where I am, like it's not home. Then I think I am just homesick for Heaven and pray (sometimes with tears) for contentment and to be a blessing where I have been placed.

I could stay where we are and be stable. I could stay and never know anything else. Or I could take a chance and let God direct my steps and sustain me in being scared. In being uncertain of myself, my abilities, my desires. I could trust him, and stop looking at myself and everything else around me. I could stay put and be just fine, but never know what would have happened if I just tried. Again, I've been praying all along for him to open and close the doors - so if it's open, then Lord, be my courage. I will stop when you want me to stop. My life is not my own, and I am not alone. I shouldn't worry about my life, because Scripture says when we try to hold onto our life we lose it. There is a boldness in following Christ and exploring opportunities with him, and it's also comforting, because I'm not alone and as I abide in him I know he will make the way clear. My feelings, my dread in my tummy, all of that can be overcome. What cannot be overcome is what I do not face, confront, try. The difference of remaining safe or being led by our powerful God who cannot err and foresees it all. Life with Christ is a constant new exploration of tried faith - and being Much Afraid (character reference from the book Hinds Feet on High Places) - and asking him to hold me, carry me, make the decisions for me, quietly stating out loud, "God, you're in charge."

This evening I walked around the farmer's market and took it all in sweetly, I was so grateful to be in the community, I had a small smile on my face the whole time. People were sweet to me, too, and I was touched. I'm staying in an adorable village-lodge and I can hear the crickets outside. The sound of nature outside my open window, especially at night, is worth more to me than possessions. I feel so grateful to just hear the sweet beauty of God's creation and be where I am, welcomed and a bit scared. God knows why I am here (I prayed earlier maybe just to be a blessing to those I'm interviewing with? Maybe it's not about moving here at all, maybe it's something else and being fruitful for the time I'm here) and there is no pressure to accept any position if I receive an offer. God knows why our steps are directed the way they are, I don't understand his ways, and I am so thankful he is a God who embraces us and guides us in our concerns. I am so glad I can wake up in the middle of the night and ask him to hold me and love me and guide me, because I don't want to do any decision alone. He is not a God far off.

She kept her mouth shut, so there was no reason to panic. It’s not like X Academy told on her, right? Still, being around the OVERSEERS gave her the heebie-jeebies. “Yeah…” She shifted in her seat to straighten her back. Remember, self, you didn’t get charged. “Well no, but yeah, I was born here and then went off-world for a while to complete my degrees. California was nice…” She paused, pursing her lips as she thought. “The sun’s different on Earth and it’s been five years since I’ve been off-planet, so I think it’s safe to say that I don’t hate this place enough to leave.”

It took her years to separate her feelings about her childhood from the city. Things could be complicated in NEW JAKARTA, but it had good bones. Shelter and comfort were easy to find in the shadows of New Jakartan buildings and as rough as things could be, it wasn’t always bad. However, the wounds caused by her separation from her former employer were too raw and her first gut feeling was yelling at her to find a way out.

“Oh definitely.” She said one thing but meant another. “It’s my civic duty.” While the OVERSEERS seemed better poised to take on crime these days, she believed they had failed to protect her all those years ago from her father. She watched them lock away good people and ignore the bad ones, so she couldn’t see herself helping them. Doing so would feel like burning holes in her stomach. The more she thought about NEW JAKARTA, the more she wondered what kept her here.

Now that she was a free bird and no longer caged by a job, she had other things to worry about and couldn't care less about updating her medical history.

“I need some clarification though… what’s all this for anyways? Are you doing a… census thing?” She cocked a brow and of course, didn’t receive much of an answer.

Oh right. She re-centered herself. The rest of the questions.

As she answered earlier, she was a law-abiding citizen and law-abiding citizens had no reason nor the intent to carry around weapons. “Nope. I’ve got nothing else ‘side of that, but hey, if something’s shady is happening on my block, let me know.” She got up and walked the Overseer out of her home. “The world’s pretty crazy and maybe I can check the footage on my doorbell for you. Anyways, have a good day.” Reyna gave them a final wave and after she shut the door, she released a sigh that she had been holding in.

Have you read the latest article from David, the showrunner?

We are in for the long haul. In my mind I said I was going to trust the writers and their vision, but you know sometimes I doubt if they'll handle things properly. Because, I'm not gonna lie, they've disappointed me a few times when I expected much from them.

I think I'm starting to have some reservations about how they are setting up the whole breakup/fallout.

Tbh, I am having a hard time believing that Leyla will just up and leave without letting Lauren know if she's safe or not considering how they met. But to now read that Leyla wants to be far away from NA, doesn't want to see Lauren, or even hear her name at all.

One of my fear since the last episode is that they'll exaggerate Leyla's reaction and unintentionally make her into this cold and heartless person for the sake of drama.

I understand Leyla's hurt and she deserves to cope with it whichever way she wants but I want them to be true to her character but also let things develop organically and not forsake canon for the sake of drama. I'm still not convinced that the Leyla we've come to know and how she relates to Lauren and what we believe she knows about her past will just disappear.

I know they get a kick from making Lauren suffer, but they shouldn't do it at the expense of Leyla. You know, I've already seen several people saying she's ungrateful and acting precious. I like Lauren, but I care about Leyla too. It's not one or the other. I want to them together ultimately but they should not destroy them in the process. We know Lauren is in the wrong but what she did is not the most horrible thing anyone's ever done on this show. The way they keep hammering on punishment and consequence is quite toxic.

I don't know if I'm making sense, just trying to air out my jumbled thoughts.

hey bud. i did read it and you're right, i think we are in for the long haul. but it's something we probably all had an inkling of since the conflict revealed itself in 3x14. there was no way to get through this without debriding a lot of hurt and betrayal first. holding some reservation is probably always going to be the safest bet when it comes to trying to anticipate things like this and it's one i try to abide by because at the end of the day, there's just no way for us to know what the writers have planned. heck the writers could have something planned but then change their mind on the direction.

best policy though is to just wait and see how it unfolds on screen. we can go crazy spinning our wheels trying to theorize or read into interviews but i know i've seen (and given myself) a lot of theories that turned out wrong or right in a way that i still wasn't expecting from this first half of the season.

i agree with you though, i think based on what we've seen of leyla that at the very least, her just going MIA for so many weeks without letting lauren even know through second hand if she's safe seems... uncharacteristically cruel. but hey, again, we don't even know what the full context around that situation is yet. i try to keep in mind as well, leyla just found out some very ground shaking news for her and sometimes hurt and anger clouds things and makes you act uncharacteristically.

you're right, leyla shouldn't suffer at the expense of lauren being put through the wringer. it's part of why i loathe the idea of leyla being willingly to uproot and start everything over when she deserved the spot at NA. i have no shame in saying that i'll have choice words if the writers do end up having leyla be someone who would indeed follow their pride to the ends of the earth to feel worthy despite giving up so much and working five times harder than anyone for what she has already. and objectively, no lauren didn't do the worst thing a human being has ever done in the history of humanity on the show and it's irritating that the reactions sometimes escalate to that level. unfortunately these writers have a twisted sense of characters needing to be punish, though i think everyone capable of objectivity can agree that lauren has more than paid her pound of flesh in suffering. but in this same interview, schulner talks about how this situation floyd is in is almost in a way, life's "Kind of punish them for their lack of an open mind." not my favorite mentality to approach your characters with but. drama writers i guess.

i'm all for magic handwaving to an extent to resolve things but of course, the criteria will always be that it doesn't ruin the foundation of these characters as individuals and their relationship. if you have to turn them into shells of who they were to fix it, that's lazy and shit writing.

BUT again, this is all us kind of spiraling when there's so much more we don't know than what we do know. we just gotta wait and see.
