Another year, another Calgary Expo! This year I went as Tennant from Reverse: 1999 and Earring Magic Ken from Barbie! Ken was also my costume of choice at Edmonton Expo '23, and the pic here is from that because I forgot to take any at Cal Expo LOL, plus I'm with a fellow earring magic Ken from a Ken themed improv panel!

Earring Magic Ken was an absolute blast to wear to the movie last night.

It was so fun, and the kids wanted pictures with Barbie and I, and there was a wonderful surprise within the movie that ya boi was not expecting to happen and screeched when it did of pure glee.

Gonna be wearing this again to an event tomorrow night so I'll try and get some more pictures and whatnot then 💜

I brought chalk to Anime Senpai again. I also have been cosplaying as Earring Magic Ken and did the drag show on Friday (performing “I’m Just Ken” in said cosplay). Today’s art from me started with the more complex ones and then I drew some simpler stuff because there was a panel we wanted to go to. Tomorrow I plan to do more and am excited to see what everyone else has drawn :)

Also, there was a Dr. Doofenschmertz cosplayer walking around with a crocheted platypus and he had a little fedora for him to make him “Perry the Platypus!?” So I told him about my Perry and came back later to find he’d written “thank you, Dr. Doof” next to my art. It was cute!

okay so i knew to prepare myself for how hard the Barbie movie would hit on the “growing up as a woman” side, but I was NOT prepared for certain feelings and emotions that the beginning of Ken’s arc being Seen And Respected By Other Men For Simply Being A Fellow Man For The First Real Time Ever would hit on the transmasc side.

also. I may be slightly ashamed at how literally EVERY and I mean EVERY outfit scumbag!era Ken wore ticked all my fuckcing buttons 🥵🥵🥵

Alright alright hot Ken jokes aside that was. TRULY a phenomenal movie. Everything I expected and more. So worth going to see.

P.s. to elaborate on being beetlejuice-pilled rn I saw it not too long ago and there were so many ppl dressed up in Lydia wedding dresses and beetlejuice suits and just generally black and white stripes it was so fun esp bc I’ve generally been taught that going to the theater is a somewhat formal affair so seeing so many grownups just straight up cosplaying was great

I did a stupid, fucked around and found out, I am stubborn and determined to a fault, and an utter moron. So, now I am drowning in my hubris and having to wear this dumb earring that isn't even my style for the next month and a half because I, in a fit of haste, decided to widen my piercing so I could wear the only loop I could find in the bloody house for my cosplay last night.

Of course it bled when I took it out, because I wasn't even remotely careful, and I'm dumb, and now I'm stuck with this blasted thing so my piercing doesn't close up on me.

Needless to say, don't do this at home. I am not endorsing anyone to follow in my fuckery. I am not a role model. I am but a fool dancing at his own execution.

Anyway, if you see me rocking this earring in any cosplay that doesn't fit it, just know ya boi fucked up and the fates are laughing at me.

Ken came out great though so I mean...

Worth it.

On con the last day me and friends went to see the barbie movie one of them was cosplaying dio and another way more revealing jojo character (my friend flashed me a good amount that day on accident) anyway I want Ken's suicide to be live Streamed so I can make fun of him and giggle in live chat xoxo -chubby darling anon who's spent way to much money this weekend

i think i’d be sent into cardiac arrest if i saw dio brando attending the barbie movie. respect nonetheless, the confidence is unmatched!! i wore a whore outfit to the movie and looked like a goof wearing it in oppenheimer. the crowd CLAPPED after both movies and my whiteness overtook and i participated i couldn’t help it, it was like some sort of sleeper agent woke in me and my hands moved on their own. but honestly?? i understand ken to a degree. i too would like it if horses ruled the world, being a cowgirl would be sweet and i mean that in a yeehaw way not a hybrid way it’s common knowledge i am the worlds best and most proficient lambgirl!! but overall, i get allen the most. new kin just dropped: barbie movie allen. ALSO i gasped seeing magic earring ken in the movie and so did all my friends but no one else in the audience did?? idk that feature was for the girls and gays!! venus fit pics btc bc i wanna show it U^ェ^U

Finally saw Barbie today

Had to think about it a little, there's several points which I really didn't enjoy that I had to think about, but overall I thought it was pretty good!

It's very PG-13 so it felt a little uncomfortable to watch it in a room full of children, but most of the grown-up jokes probably went over their heads and tbh I don't really see any issue with Barbie saying "vagina" and "penis". In more ways than just the intro it feels sort of like 2023: A Barbie Odyssey in terms of it's narrative about what Barbie is, which made it a very surreal experience played well. However this film-bro analogy is a little too apropos of the plot and kinda makes me a hard to describe sort of uncomfortable. Kinda wish Barbie and Ken were better friends, but that's neither here nore there. Very glad to know that Barbie is an asexual icon. Wish they leaned harder into the weirder characters, e.g. address how Midge gives birth or Earring Magic Ken's "special jewelry", or even shine a light on Bilt Lily. I really want to cosplay Weird Barbie. Overall it's VERY fun! Even when I was having thoughts of how dumb this movie can be, I was still having an absolute blast. Makes me think of Josie and the Pussycats in terms of it's unabashed in-movie marketing, only less cute than Josie because that had a stronger anti-capitalist consumerist (for lack of better terms) message, whereas this was literally made by Mattel to get me hyped about buying dolls and merch as an adult. Actually kinda impressed by how it discussed feminism tho. It really was delightful to see all these people of all genders and ages show up in their best pink outfits to watch a movie, even at ass-o'clock in the morning when I saw it today. Shame on me for not getting dressed up, but this was just a side trip while out for groceries on discount-movie Tuesday so I showed up in comfy pants and a Machine Girl shirt and a black hoodie.

Verdict: It good, I had fun. 7.5/10

Will likely see it again on the big screen because I know some people who will really enjoy it
