list of shipnames in jrwi and who they are referring to
this is (and probably forever will be) a work in progress. i plan on expanding this list with any and all shipnames i come across, so if you want to see the up-to-date list, make sure to open the original post. also feel free to send me shipnames that are missing from this list to my inbox or over dms.
note: not all of these are extremely common or in circulation quite yet, but you might encounter them every now and then anyways.
note x2: for some of these ships there are multiple names in use, i tried to sort them by how common they are (most common to least common)
‼️ important disclaimer! this is an archival work, meant to list as many ship names as possible for a variety of uses. this means this list does include ships that might be triggering for some. regardless of my feelings about it, abusive, unrealistic, or violent ships as well as underage and incest are pretty much always a facet of fandom, and as such they are represented here, partially to give people the necessary information to be able to circumvent being confronted with said content (e.g. via muting tags) should they want/need to. ‼️

2017 Napa Valley A Cappella Extravaganza — VoicePlay live performances
VoicePlay on stage in Napa — photo by Haley Olson
Three years after their previous appearance, VoicePlay returned to northern California as the professional headliners for the annual high school and collegiate vocal festival in Yountville.
.
instagram
J.None was excited to hit the road with the guys after performing with them at Disney World for the previous two months.
.
youtube
When you're singing for other a cappella singers, it's hard to go wrong with a little musical theater. VoicePlay has plenty of Broadway material in their repertoire, and this was the most recent addition at the time.
Details:
title: Seasons of Love
original performers: cast of Rent (1996)
written by: Jonathan Larson
arranged by: VoicePlay & AJ Rafael
performance date: 28 January 2017
My favorite bits:
J.None's smooth timbre on the opening lines
the way they seamlessly pass the lead vocals around (But why doesn't Layne get a turn? 😞)
that momentary silence before they start the first chorus
when the rhythm section really kicks in 🥁🎸
Earl's crystal clear high tone on the second verse
that jazzy harmonized riff from Eli, J, and Earl
the layers of sound in the final chorus
such a lovely ending chord
Trivia:
As Geoff mentions in the intro, the guys had recorded this song as a collaboration with AJ Rafael in October, and the video premiered on his YouTube channel a couple weeks before this performance.
.
youtube
VoicePlay refuse to be confined to any one genre of music. They've tackled everything from barbershop to hard rock, country to sea shanties, pop ballads to orchestral pieces. So why not revisit the rap hits of their youth?
Details:
title: Aca Top 10 – Old School Rap
original songs / performers: "La-Di-Da-Di" by Slick Rick & Doug E. Fresh; [0:16] "Going Back to Cali" by LL Cool J; [0:32] "Push It" by Salt-n-Pepa; [0:56] "Parents Just Don’t Understand" by DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince; [1:09] "Bust A Move" by Young MC; [1:32] "It's Tricky" by Run-DMC; [1:49] "Just A Friend" by Biz Markie; [2:12] "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice; [2:21] "The Humpty Dance" by Digital Underground; [2:44] "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang; [3:10] "Walk This Way" by Run-DMC & Aerosmith
written by: "La-Di-Da-Di" by Douglas "Doug E. Fresh" Davis & Richard "Slick Rick" Walters; "Going Back to Cali" by Rick Rubin & James "LL Cool J" Smith; "Push It" by Hurby "Luv Bug" Azor & Ray Davies; "Parents Just Don’t Understand" by Pete Harris, Will "Fresh Prince" Smith, Jeffrey "DJ Jazzy Jeff" Townes; "Bust A Move" by Marvin "Young MC" Young, Matt Dike, & Michael Ross; "It's Tricky" by Joseph "Rev. Run" Simmons, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, Doug Fieger, & Berton Averre; "Just A Friend" by Marcel "Biz Markie" Hall; "Ice Ice Baby" by Robert "Vanilla Ice" Van Winkle, Mario Johnson, Queen, & David Bowie; "The Humpty Dance" by Earl Humphrey, Gregory "Shock G" Jacobs, & George Clinton; "Rapper's Delight" by Bernard Edwards, Nile Rodgers, Sylvia Robinson, Henry "Big Bank Hank" Jackson, Michael "Wonder Mike" Wright, Guy "Master Gee" O'Brien, Curtis "Grandmaster Caz" Brown, & William Hankshaw; "Walk This Way" by Joseph "Rev. Run" Simmons, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, Steven Tyler, & Joe Perry
arranged by: Geoff Castellucci
performance date: 28 January 2017
My favorite bits:
Layne kicking things off with some old school beatboxing
Earl recreating the breathy part in "Push It"
Eli handling the scratching in the back during "Parents"
the middle three busting some lowkey moves as the lyrics instruct them to do
everybody bouncing to the beat during "Tricky"
Geoff continuing the "Ice Ice Baby" bass line under "The Humpty Dance" after the other guys leave him hanging
Eli showing off some slides in "Rapper's Delight"
J's little wave in response to the "hello" in the lyrics
the record skip effect at the end of "Walk This Way"
Trivia:
The guys originally recorded this countdown live in the studio, where they could do as many takes as they wanted. It's even more impressive seeing them perform it in front of an audience.
.
youtube
This video is missing the very beginning because the fan who recorded it got over-excited about them actually performing the song live. But how could they possibly resist singing the theme to one of the most beloved TV shows set in San Francisco when they were just north the city itself?
Details:
title: Everywhere You Look
original performers: Carly Rae Jepsen & Butch Walker for Fuller House (2016)
written by: Jesse Frederick, Bennett Salvay, & Jeff Franklin for Full House (1987)
arranged by: Layne Stein
performance date: 28 January 2017
My favorite bits:
the bouncy descending bass line leading into the chorus
Eli and J grooving along to their own harmonies
Earl's scooping crescendo as a transition into the second verse
the call and response of ♫ "never go away" ♫ "like the Olsen twins" ♫ 👭
that quick crisp diction of the ♫ "how do you know… " ♫ section
hearing a few audience members shout "Hey!" in time with the guys
that big coordinated descending riff at the end
Trivia:
This song was the second entry in VoicePlay's PartWork series, performed entirely by multiple versions of Earl and Layne.
.
Additional photos
.
Before they flew out of San Francisco the next day, J.None took a side trip to meet up with a friend, see a bit of the city, and get some fresh air.

「 … Alias/Name … 」 ─ writerinafoxhole, aka fox.
「 … birthday … 」 ─ 17th May.
「 … zodiac sign … 」 ─ taurus.
「 … height … 」 ─ 168 cm.
「 … hobbies … 」 ─ writing, photography, video games, learning languages and procrastinating.
「 … favorite colors … 」 ─ sea green and the colour of the Pacific Ocean.
「 … favorite flavors … 」 ─ spicy, cheese, salty stuff, chocolate, creamy Earl Grey and matcha.
「 … favorite genres … 」 ─ tough one, but I'm slowly sliding back in my action/adventure phase, crime fiction is also a big thing and if they are in the steampunk or urban fantasy subgenre, I'm in.
「 … favorite book … 」 ─ hard pick, but I'm going to say Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas by Jules Verne. Captain Nemo stand here.
「 … favorite music … 」 ─ l'm mister eclectic, I'm into alternative rock, sea shanties, movie soundtracks and musicals if you look at my vinyl collection, but my playlist goes from the The Pokemon Theme to The Show Must Go On, via Sacré Bordel (French Rap), so really it barely scratches the surface.
「 … favorite movies … 」 ─ another hard pick, but Amadeus would be my classic movie pick, The Lord of the Rings my trilogy pick, The Last Crusade my if I was stuck on an island movie, Beauty & The Beast the classic Disney movies I would save, but Mulan and Atlantis The Lost Empire are my favourite. My top three movies last year are Nimona, Asteroid City and Past Lives. I can go on...

「 … last movie … 」 ─ Poor Things.
「 … recent reads … 」 ─ Terra Incognita by Vladimir Nabokov.
「 … currently reading … 」 ─ Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston, The City of Stardust by Georgia Summers and Kenobi by John Jackson Miller.
「 … currently watching … 」 ─ a YouTube video, usually it's a TV show I know playing in the background while I RP.
「 … currently working on … 」 ─ too many things, I am all over the place and I need to focus instead of procrastinating. Aiming to set a few objectives, the two big one are: taking care of myself and get back into working on my book.
「 … inspiration … 」 ─ art, people watching and stories, old rpg characters and songs.
「 … story behind url … 」 ─ oof it is a hard one, if I remember correctly, when I moved blog, I wanted something a little more poetic for Greaves. I think both words sounded pretty, I liked the definition and their union made me think of a katana with wave patterns or the light in Greaves eyes... And that is it.
「 … fun fact about me … 」 ─ I have a Mickey Mouse watch from my last trip to Disneyland Paris which I think was in 2009 or 2010 and I love it so much, I always wear it when I go out. I picked it because it looked like the Robert Langdon's Mickey Mouse watch in Angels & Demons movie.
#(ooc.out of the shadows)#bonsoir it is late (for me)#but look at me doing a meme#I apologise for last weekend I'm a bit of a mess#but I'll make it up to you guys this weekend#I kept it as short as I could#much love to all of you#I'll try to remember your birthdays#(ooc.trivia)#I tried not to repeat people that were tagged

fic recs!
during/pre book 1
skylark Soldiers have their marching songs and sailors have their shanties. Of course aviators and dragons must have their own ways to keep the pace.
natural wonders One naturalist, obsessed with ocean fauna. One newly hatched dragon, eating up the local sheep herds. What else is there to say?
little bitty pretty one “Imperials are bred to live within the walls of the emperor’s palace; that is why you are petite, so that you may fit into some of the most important chambers in the world. The only dragon more highly regarded amongst the Chinese is the Celestial, which is sometimes no bigger than a single ton, although I understand they do vary.”
“Oh,” Temeraire said, drooping. He darted a glance at Laurence, as if shy of his reaction. “So I will not grow much more after all?”
“You will still grow some,” Sir Edward answered, laughing. “I have never met an Imperial, as they are certainly too valuable to be flying around outside of China, but to my understanding you may grow up to four tons yet, if you continue eating well.”
by the river, on the wing
As the third son of an earl, Laurence has the Skill, of course. His knowledge of the matter is not as strong as his father would have liked, since he ran away to sea without completing his training--but there is one thing he is sure of: animals cannot be Skilled. Except, apparently, the dragonet aboard his ship.
marks of esteem
Laurence's first months in the Aerial Corps have been a long slog of one social mishap after another. In this tradition though, the Navy men and aviators are perhaps not quite so different.
some mysteries
Chenery and Sutton request Granby's aid for a very serious matter
patience, friend
“Volly! Good name, Volly? Good name, good dragon?” “Yes,” James said, and laid his hand on his dragon’s head. "Good name, good dragon.”
No one pays much attention to Greyling hatchings, except of course the boys to whom they mean everything.
from the bulrushes
“What an incredible creature you will be,” he said quietly, “and what a boon for England.” An old hurt panged in his chest; bringing the egg up from the shore was likely the greatest thing he would ever do for his country, and it had only been dumb luck that brought him such a chance. For a moment, he thought of the ships sailing past down the channel, towards Gibraltar or Africa or India, and had to swallow that long-held longing. The chance for such a path was passed, and not only passed, but passed by twenty years. He ought to have released such foolish childhood dreams by now, and yet even a pastor must be allowed an occasional harmless indulgence, he hoped.
“You will go very many exciting places, I expect,” he told the egg. “I hope you do not mind the sea, after the tumble it has given you.” He patted the egg and, to his astonishment, it made an audible gurgling sound beneath his hand, as if in answer.
fics with some book 2 spoilers
the first knight
In a world where Laurence is born perhaps the most aggressive dragon breed ever he will still be a proper, honourable one. And little prince Tienxiang will still meet him, because some things are universal constants. The Imperial Court doesn't know what is going to hit it very soon.
diplomatic compromise
On the voyage to China, a member of the prince's party tries to kill Laurence. Then it happens again. And again, and again. It's very hard to remain diplomatic under these circumstances.
beautiful
Lien would like to return to her egg now.
the paradox of not wanting to be spoiled and wanting to consume every piece of media about this series on tumblr...im being torn apart
#this is the THIRD TIME i made this liet because tumblr keeps bullying me#fic recs#hopefully this reblog works akdhejw#temeraire

Chip plays guitar. His fingers are already calloused from rope burns, so he doesn't have to build up the strength of his fingertips. He doesn't play super often, and he's sort of rusty since he didn't have an instrument while he was on the run, but he'll play for the crew if they ask. He usually leads shanties, which may or may not be his excuse for getting out of doing actual work.
Jay plays viola. Ava played violin, so Jay got the second-best, the harmony to Ava's melody. She learns to fiddle from Earl, and usually accompanies Chip when they play for more lively occasions. Jay's technical skill is incredible, but she's not great at improvising. She's learning how to get better at it, though.
Gillion can't play an instrument. Most Oversea instruments don't work underwater, and he would have never gotten the chance to learn anyway, between his training and his academics. But Gillion can sing. He sang constantly while he was in the Undersea, any chance he got. Edyn taught him most of the songs that he knows from childhood, but he's picked up on a few sea shanties aboard the Albatross.
Earl, Drey, and Gryffin all refuse to play anything or sing. Gryffin has the excuse that he's never learned any music, and Drey knows how to play cello, but he needs his arms for that. Only Jay has ever heard Earl fiddle. Chip thinks she's lying about how good he is. She is not.
Ollie is learning how to play guitar. Chip isn't a very good teacher, though.

Wow its been a while since I was active, but the ask game has called me back! Since there was no character attached to this I'm just going to do whoever comes to mind
Allen: Ive said this before and I'll say it again. Allen loves street music! Random street performers singing or playing their heart out, yeah that's the good stuff.
Kanda: If he's alone or meditating with Lenalee than any relaxing background music is fine. However if Allen or Lavi or anyone else decides to bother him than Kanda will blast any metal or screamo music to both drown them out and annoy them until they leave him alone. Dosnt really care for the music it's self, he just uses whatever music is convenient for the situation.
Lenalee: pop? Jazz? Country? Rock? Sure! She will listen to anything. Her favorite songs are the ones her friends show her because she knows the songs make them happy. She does lean more towards happy songs but dosnt care much about genre.
Lavi: Weird history songs like ' we didn't start the fire' or 'the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald'. He likes to laugh about how inaccurate they really are because bookman know the true history.
Kmoui: it does not matter you can not hear it over the sound of his machines. He will listen to whatever the others in the science section like, and will listen to it on repeat until it's stuck in his head. Once the song is stuck it will play in his head while he works. So no radio required for his music because he cant hear it anyway!
Tyki: he actually really enjoys those working shanty songs. The ones everyone he know when he was 'light' would sing together on a job. Actually kind of similar to Allen now that I think about it. Reminds him of simpler times.
The Earl: This. Cutsy pop songs. My reasoning? There is none, I just know this in my bones. However he does play a lot of classical music too.
Jerry: I could go with the stereotype that he listens to heavy metal because he's a chef, but I don't really think he cares much on the type of music as long as it has a good beat he can vibe with. Yeah lyrics and genre don't matter, just the tempo.
Cross: Smooth music. Either classic or soft jazz. Not a fan of anything too pitchy though, so no flutes generally.
General Socalo: The screams of his victim is the only music he needs.
Daisya: local music. He will find a local band or singer in every town he visits. He loves discovering new sounds unique to an area, makes him feel more like he's on an adventure!
#kanda will discover irish pub music when looking for Allen and that will become music he actually really enjoys#dgm#d.gray man#allen walker#lenalee lee#komui lee#lavi bookman#general socalo#general cross#tyki mikk#the millennium earl#daisya barry#dgm jerry#ask game#Mugen answers

i did an album rating of penelope scott and i surpassed jrwi episode 100 so now i listen to the VOL 1 SOUNDTRACK!!!! YAAAAY!!!!! here are my thoughts
below the cut because its REALLY LONG. theres a LOT of songs. my favs are "the bastard pirate" and "cunning action" and "the black sea" and "kas' karnival" and of course "HEEHOO!"
the riptide pirates (both): sorry i started this and already listened to these two songs so THEY WERE GREAT!!! sea shanties are freaking awesome. i had no notes 7/10
this is my destiny (gillion): AAHHHHH. the electric guitar fits SO WELL for gillion im writhing. this is soooo intense. i can PICTURE him speedwalking down a big fancy hallway. i love how it speeds up he is GOING he is ON IT. this is HIS DESTINY!!!! kind of goes on for too long though. ummm 7/10
prophetic hero (gillion): dude are ALL the songs going to be this intense or IS it just gillion. THE ELECTRIC GUITAR IS SOOOOO GOOD FOR HIM I WILL KEEP SAYING THIS!!!! charlie slimecicle/gillion is the only one who talked about their hit song hole in your heart being pop-punk and also gillion dressed punk that one time HE NEEDS THIS!!!!! HE NEEDS TO BE METAL!!!!! i dont know enough about music genres sorry if this is not what punk or metal are. i feel like it just looped but whatever. this song is so gillion. 8/10 im HYPED.
prophetic screwup (gillion): this is so funny. i LOVE the idea. pretty good length. 9/10
one more burden (gillion): this is so sad.... no notes good mood setting song. 7/10 i think it sounds underwater and beautiful
the navys daughter (jay): the BELL NOISES AND PEN CLICKS!!! LIKE HER WAITER JOB! (they can also double as clock ticking too.... ohhhh. time ticking down til her secrets revealed. FUCK.) i like that so much. the pretty string riff is so great. the gun shots.... yeah dude.... the strings are sooo pretty jay you are so violin. its so gentle... 7/10
the sureshot (jay): oh were GOING. THE CRESCENDOS OF STRINGS ARE SO BEAUTIFUL! i feel like im in the wild west this is probably because the gun noises and the rhythm feels like horse running. i definitely dont feel like any of these character songs feel like theyre on a boat but thats what "the riptide pirates" is for. 8/10
rebel's elegy (jay): oh so sad... no notes. 5/10 its okay
that bastard pirate (chip): oh this ROCKS. FUCK!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!! THE GUITAR??? the BASS? i think its bass. the keyboard the electric guitar. i can picture chip walking around like an asshole to this. ohhh its so good. its a totally different mood from gillions and its PERFECT. also really good length. 10/10
cunning action (chip): FUUUCK. DUDE. WHY IS HE AWESOME? I LOVE THESE ONES. he sounds so cool chip you are so cool. these ones sound like a band made them somehow. and it makes me really happy. this flute is crazy. THE GUITAAAR chip is so bass. its what he played in the band. 10/10 again i dont care
pirate's legacy (chip): ok sad track for chip. oh what the hell hes talking to me what the hell is he SAYING? all of these sad songs have the same kind of keyboard swell and i dont really care for it. but thats okay. i understand the necessity. is he just vocalizing or is he saying something? i cant tell. 5/10
playful blows: this one sounded like old man earl immediately. in his like fruit patterned hawaiian shirt (<== i realize he doesnt actually have this i was just imagining it). this is CORE of old man earl. hes tropical and hes serving drinks and hes fuckin with you. this is totally a ship-wide kind of play but its old man earl to ME.... the flute is beautiful. 7/10
what lies beyond (anxiety 1): anxiety 1 lol. welcome back keyboard swell. i like the gentle slow strings added though... this IS scary... 8/10 i like it more than the sad songs
the black sea (anxiety 2): oh GREAT. love the deep oceanic ambiance. this is SCARY SCARY. it fits the black sea so well. the um the didgeridoo? i think? that deep rumbling is so perfect. im totally seeing dark stormy waters with big beasts obscured swimming below. 10/10
alveros' tomb: who the hell is alveros. am i supposed to know. oh i looked him up hes the guy that ruled desire island before queen malice hahaha. why is there a song for him... this is so sad and scary... its beautiful though... the scary voice... THE GUITAR IS SO CUTE! the little riff. umm 7/10
grand strategy (anticipation 1): this IS anticipatory. did someone just fart what the hell was that. theyre farting again. this is crazy. this IS SO ANTICIPATORY! okay. 9/10 i really like it
a heart's desire (italian) (anticipation 2): why the hell is it italian. HOLY SHIT THERES LYRICS!!!!!!!!!! AND THEYRE IN ITALIAN I THINK! i heard corazon (heart) and mano (hand). this feels way scarier than anticipation but i guess its hopeful. its cus of the damned keyboard swell. im gonna be fr i kind of hate the swell. 6/10
a heart's desire (english) (anticipation 2): oh its the same but in english. okay whatever 6/10
kas' karnival (quirky 1): OH FUCK YES. YES YES YES YES YES!!!!! I LOVE CARNIVAL MUSIC SOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!! i dont know what ANY of these instruments are but theyre all PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the high note and then slamming on the low end of the piano. raaaaah oh my god. i love this 10/10
HEEHOO (quirky 2): oh this fucks. holy shit. oh my god. its like kas' karnival but FASTER and MORE INTENSE and its SO MUCH! oh my god so many high notes and fast notes. this is so goobleck. ITS SO INTENSE. theres so much going on. fever dream esque. JUST like how i felt when goobleck was there. the intensity of like slamming on the notes is SOOO PALPABLE. soooo good. 10/10
loved this. EXCITED FOR VOL 2. listening to this made me feel like i was listening to homestuck albums again. so awesome. i love this. thanks for reading and im sorry
#me#jrwi#song rating#this song rating is definitely worse than the penelope scott one#part of that is because that ep had waaaay less songs. this has so many songs#part of that is also that these all generally sounded the same in the scope of “music that plays in the background during scenes”#instead of just like. song that comes on the radio. song i put on to listen to#you get me. so these have a different purpose#but damn. they went crazy with this. okay enough#jrwi posting

hi!!!!! i saw your post about narrative songs!! care to drop some recommendations 💖💖💖
BOY HOWDY DO I
I'm generally gonna get more into artist recommendations than specific songs BUT here we go
Bad Bad Leroy Brown by Jim Croce was the original song that I was listening to that inspired the post!!!
Hit and Run by LOLO is a banger
you WILL listen to Goodbye Earl by The Chicks!!!!
The Bullet by The Devil Makes Three my beloved
in general southern gothic (and classic country, and sea shanties) as a musical genre will very much be your friend for narrative music
a lot of people have recommend Lake Pontchartrain by Ludo and The Mariner's Revenge by The Decemberists and a lot of people are Right
Okay first artist rather than specific song- The Mechanisms!!! They do entire narrative albums that are usually like "folklore" + "niche genre" + SPAAACCEEE all rolled into prog rock and it SLAPS
The Dear Hunter- they literally have a rock opera that spans FIVE ALBUMS!!!! it RULES
Lemon Demon (in a similar category are like. Jonathan Coulton Some Will Wood songs, They Might Be Giants, some Weird Al Songs, some Oingo Boingo songs, and some Talking Heads songs) for some songs about some Wacky Shit
For more generally comedic Narrative Songs I would recommend Jazz Emu, Tom Cardy, Rob Cantor, Tom Lehrer , Garfunkel and Oates, and Brian David Gilbert

Our Flag Means Perfume
I’ve been coping with The Horrors through obsessing over perfumes, and look what I found:
It turns out Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab has multiple pirate related perfumes, so I thought I might share them here in case they are of any interest. Maybe you want to spice up your cosplay with the scent of literal spices, or give a birthday gift to a fan, or just hoard like a dragon.
Calico Jack Perfume Oil
Sea air, driftwood, waterlogged kelp, and the memory of plundered spices sprayed over worn leathers, rough musk, and the salty wooden floorboards of the Revenge.
Anne Bonny Perfume Oil
Named in honor of the most notorious female pirate to ever set sail. Wicked, cruel, beautiful, intelligent, resourceful and dangerous: a true role model. A blend of Indonesian red patchouli, red sandalwood, and frankincense. A million thanks to Juliana Williamson-Page for inspiration!
Grog Perfume Oil
Arrr! Avast ye, matey! This be the scent of pirate rum!
Jolly Roger
Sea spray with an undercurrent of leather, Bay Rum, and salty, dry woods.
Mary Read Perfume Oil
Salt air, ocean mist, aged patchouli, sarsaparilla, watered-down rum, leather-tinged musk, and a spray of gunpowder.
Plunder Perfume Oil
The scent of a pirate’s bumboat, overflowing with stolen wares: tea leaf, cassia, cinnamon bark, clove, allspice, sandalwood, tobacco, peppercorn, and nutmeg.
Port Royal Perfume Oil
The Sodom of the New World! — touted as the richest and wickedest city in all creation! Port Royal was the center of 17th century Caribbean commerce, a notorious safe harbor for pirates, and the site of our third flagship store, which was, sadly, destroyed in the earthquake of 1692. Spiced rum and ship’s wood mixed with the body-warmed trace of a prostitute’s perfume and a hint of salty sea air on the dry-down.
Also, if you want to try something a bit more Stede Bonnety, these are apparently based on historical, high class perfumes around the relevant period.
Bess Perfume Oil
Inspired by the tragic, ill-fated love of Queen Elizabeth I and the Earl of Leicester. This is our modernization of a 17th-century perfume blend favored by British aristocracy: rosemary, orange flower, grape spirit, five rose variants, lemon peel, and mint.
Vicomte de Valmont Perfume Oil
Rake, scoundrel, demon in a frock coat. Devilishly seductive, ultimately tragic; a villain undone and redeemed by love. Based on an 18th century gentlemen’s cologne: ambergris, white musk, white sandalwood, Spanish Moss, orange blossom, three mints, jasmine, rose geranium and a spike of rosemary.
There are also a bunch of limited edition sea shanty inspired perfumes which I won’t bother linking to individually.
Fire Down Below
A collection of sea chanteys, hauling and pulling shanties, sailor’s songs, and sea chants.
Tips if you do end up buying something:
All but the Fire Down Below perfumes are “general catalogue” scents that you can buy at either full size or as a 1/32oz “Imp”. If you buy 6 or more Imp sized perfumes, you get $2.00 off.
This is a small indie perfume house that just relocated, so orders do take some time. That is to say, if you want something to arrive by Christmas, it’s too late.
You can look at more reviews in the forums. I suggest using the search bar; then look for a thread with the same title as the name of the perfume in the results.

Royals, republicanism and reparations: Wessexes feel the heat in Caribbean
Weeks after William and Kate’s controversial Caribbean tour, more nations signal plans to ditch the monarchy

Sitting across from the prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda last week, partway through a royal tour to celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee, Prince Edward laughed awkwardly. Gaston Browne had just asked the prince whether he and his wife Sophie would use their “diplomatic influence” to push for the payment of slavery reparations to Britain’s former colonies. “We believe that all human civilisation should understand the atrocities that took place,” the Caribbean nation’s political leader told the Queen’s youngest son.
In the same meeting came a second blow. “One day,” the prime minister told the couple, Antigua and Barbuda – a former British colony where the Queen is still the head of state – would cut ties with the monarchy and become a republic. Prince Edward shuffled nervously in his seat. “I wasn’t keeping notes, so I’m not going to give you a complete riposte,” he said. “But thank you for your welcome today.”

The painful exchange was one in a series of historic moments in the Earl and Countess of Wessex’s week-long tour of the Caribbean, the second royal tour to the region in two months to be mired in controversy.
By the end of the trip last Thursday, two Commonwealth nations had indicated their intention to cut ties with the royal family and become republics. St Kitts and Nevis also revealed its plan to review its ties with the monarchy.
“The advancement of the decades has taught us that the time has come for St Kitts and Nevis to review its monarchical system of government and to begin the dialogue to advance to a new status,” Shawn Richards, deputy prime minister, told reporters.

The declarations follow similar moves by other Commonwealth realms, several of which signalled their own plans to cut ties with the monarchy following a separate tour of the Caribbean by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in March.
During that tour, William and Kate were accused of harking back to colonial days after they shook hands with crowds behind a wire mesh fence in Jamaica, and rode in the back of a Land Rover like the Queen did 60 years ago. Protesters accused them of benefiting from the “blood, tears and sweat” of slaves, while in the Bahamas they were urged to acknowledge the British economy was “built on the backs” of slaves and to pay reparations.
Jamaica’s prime minister Andrew Holness told William and Kate that his country was “moving on” and may be the next to become a republic, while a minister from Belize said it was time to “take the next step in truly owning our independence”.
The latest declarations mean six of the 14 countries beyond the UK that have the Queen as head of state have now indicated that they want to remove her – Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Belize, Grenada, Jamaica and St Kitts and Nevis.
If they do they will join countries including Trinidad, Guyana, Dominica and most recently Barbados, which became the world’s newest republic in November.
The royal tours have also led to renewed calls for reparations – an acknowledgement of the history of enslavement and payment for the damage – from Britain and the monarchy, even from countries with no current plans to cut ties with the Queen.
In St Vincent and the Grenadines – which held a referendum on becoming a republic in 2009 that failed to pass when 55% of voters voted against such a move, and has no current plans for another vote – protesters as well as supporters greeted Edward and Sophie during their visit.
“This wrong was done against a sector of the human race by another and this wrong must be compensated,” said Idesha Jackson, 47, one protester who came out during the Wessexes’ visit.
The controversy has led to concern at the Palace. After returning to the UK in March, Prince William acknowledged the monarchy’s days in the Caribbean may be numbered. “‘I know that this tour has brought into even sharper focus questions about the past and the future,” he said, adding that the future was “for the people to decide upon”.
On Saturday it was reported that after getting home William and Kate summoned senior staff for a meeting to “clear the air”, with a source telling the Mirror they felt they had been “poorly prepared”. “If they aren’t in tune with what is going on in the world they will be left fighting for their futures,” the source said.
For now, future royal tours would be “unwise”, said Peter Hunt, the former BBC royal correspondent.
“The world has moved on in the wake of the Windrush scandal and Black Lives Matter,” he said. “Any future trips would be unwise. The role of Britain and the monarchy in the slave trade would feature, and the royals appear ill-equipped to rise to the occasion.”
