The Selection #5 by Kiera Cass
Twenty years have passed since America Singer and Prince Maxon fell in love, and their daughter is the first princess to hold a Selection of her own.
Eadlyn didn't think she would find a real partner among the Selection's thirty-five suitors, let alone her true love. But sometimes love surprises you... and now Eadlyn must make a choice that feels more difficult - and more important - than she ever expected.
The book starts the day after the end of The Heir, when Queen America has a heart attack, has an operation and is taken to hospital in the palace. Because of the dangerous situation, Eadlyn tells everyone on the Report that she will get rid of the Selected Suitors, until only the six Elites are left: Gunner Croft, Kile Woodwork, Ean Cabel, Hale Garner, Fox Wesley and Henri Jaakoppi, together with his translator, Erik. She also says that her father King Maxon, wants to stay with his wife while she recovers, so he has chosen Eadlyn to be in charge of Illéa whiile he is away.
Marid Illéa, son of August and Georgia Illéa, visits the palace to offer his wishes to Eadlyn for her mother's recovery. August Illéa had worked with Maxon to end the old social system, but after complaining that things weren't changing fast enough, they had a big argument. The Illéa family left the palace as a result, and they have been cold towards the Schreavees ever since. Now, Marid wants his parents and Eadlyn's parents to make up. The public really likes him. He offers to help Eadlyn with whatever she needs.
The next day, Queen America wakes up from her coma and Eadlyn, Kaden and Osten go to see her. That evening, Eadlyn goes out on a date with Kile. She tells him that Ahren wrote to her to say that the people of Illéa don't like her. Kile comforts her and offers to kiss her, if she wants, to forget her problems for a while, saying that he will do anything she wants. She refuses, because she can't kiss him like it's nothing: he has become very important to her. She admits that she likes him. He admits that he also likes her and has already designed a summerhouse for her.
Grandmother Singer comes to visit America at the palace. That evening, Eadlyn bumps into Erik in the kitchen. They talk about Henri, Eadlyn's parents and the Selection. Eadlyn admits that she didn't want the Selection in the beginning and that she is not in love with anyone yet. Erik offers to help her with anything she needs.
Meanwhile, Gunner Croft meets Eadlyn and asks if he can kiss her to see if they are compatible. The kiss is fine, but nothing more than that, so he asks her permission and leaves the Selection.
Eadlyn has a date with Henri, with Erik by his side. Eadlyn and Henri find the conversation slightly uncomfortable and impersonal, as they need to ask for translation all the time. Eadlyn ends up talking more to Erik than to Henri. So, Eadlyn asks Erik and Henri to teach her and the other Elite Suitors Finnish.
During the first Finnish lesson, Henri helps Eadlyn with her pronunciation by holding her face close to his. They alost kiss, but are interrupted by Erik.
Marid Illéa suggests that Eadlyn hold a town hall meeting where people from all parts of society and from all economic backgrounds and former castes will be able to talk one-to-one with her. This will show the country that the palace listens to the citizens.
During the broadcast, things quickly get out of control. The guests start complaining about the social stigma of the former lower castes. They demand more freedom and start fighting with each other. Marid steps in to defend the princess, and the meeting ends without too much trouble.
Eadlyn asks her father to let her officially become queen, so that he can be free of responsibilities, spend more time with his wife and both of them can rest from their duties. Maxon is reluctant to let her rule during this difficult time, but then he accepts her proposal and gives her his signet ring. He announces it publicly on the Report and everyone on set congratulates Eadlyn, which shows the public that she is really capable and popular.
During another Finnish lesson, Eadlyn and Kile admit again that they have feelings for each other. Hale tells Eadlyn that he has realized he likes Ean, after Ean kissed him in the Men's parlor a few days ago. He is worried that this could get them killed, because the Suitors are not allowed to have relationships with anyone except the princess. Also, in Illéa, same-sex couples are stigmatised because of the previous castes. Eadlyn is surprised by this, but she suggests that Hale and Ean will be eliminated separately after her coronation day, one week later. They can be a couple without anyone knowing, so that people won't say they tried to overthrow the government. Hale is very grateful and relieved.
Kile comes to Eadlyn's room and tells her that he is going to make a special room for her, where she can receive and listen to her people. They remember their first kiss, when Kile was six and Eadlyn was four. He suddenly kisses her while they were playing. He kissed her instead of tagging her, and she threatened to have him hanged. Kile laughed and said that a four-year-old shouldn't even know what hanging was, to which Eadlyn retorted that someone who is raised to should.
A few days before the coronation, Eadlyn tries on her ceremonial dress and cape. A tailor asks her for help in Erik's room. He wants to persuade Erik to wear a suit in the ceremony. Erik doesn't want to get dressed so formally like the other Elite. Eadlyn persuades him to wear the suit, but with a different coloured tie. Erik shows her a ring that his family had for many generations. He is supposed to give it to the girl he marries, but he gives it to Eadlyn for good luck. Eadlyn kisses Erik, but the tailor comes in and interrupts them. Eadlyn realizes that she has feelings for Erik. She remembers when Camille asked her if there was a boy she was interested in.
On the day of the coronation, Ahren arrives at the palace with his wife, the French princess Camille de Sauveterre. The ceremony goes well. Eadlyn officially makes her promises as a queen and is crowned Queen of Illéa. At the party afterwards, Ahren says sorry to Eadlyn for leaving her so quickly, but she says it's OK because this made her think more about other people. Marid then asks Eadlyn to marry him, so that they can unite Illéa and Schreave lines and become popular with the public. If she refuses, Marid says he will spread rumours about her and cause riots, because the people love and listen to him. Eadlyn understands that he actually wants the throne and runs out of the party room in panic. Erik finds her. They hide in the Women's Room and they kiss. But they know they can't be together.
Ean leaves the palace the next morning, just like he had arranged with Eadlyn. Eadlyn decides to finish the Selection in two weeks and get married soon to stop Marid's plans. She will get rid of Fox and Hale and then choose between Kile and Henri in public. That same night, Eadlyn has a secret date with Erik in a safe room. They talk about their parents. They tell each other their full names: Eikko Petteri Koskinen and Eadlyn Helena Margarete Schreave. They agree that after the Selection is over, they will never meet each other again, but for that night they can kiss and be together.
The next day, Eadlyn has a date with Fox. He says he loves her, but she thinks he's only saying that because he has to. She feels bad about having to get rid of him soon. Eadlyn sees on the news that Marid Illéa is buying engagement rings in public, which might make the public want him to be their prince. Eadlyn decides to choose her husband straight away and tell everyone the next day. Josie Woodwork comforts her at that moment, apologizing for her previous behaviour and for wanting to become a princess. She admits that she is the one who put Kile's name in the Selection, because she wanted to become a princess, should Kile win the competition.
Hale and Fox leave the palace that same day. Eadlyn goes to Kile's room to ask him to marry her. Kile proposes to her, ready to marry her immediately and stop Marid. Eadlyn says she can't marry him because she doesn't want to stop his future plans and make him stay in the palace for her sake. Kile insists he would be happy to give up everything for her, but she loves him too much to let him do that. To make him leave, she bans him from the palace for a year and sends him to Bonita for a housing project for the homeless, so he can pursue his dreams of becoming an architect.
Before Eadlyn proposes to Henri, she meets Erik. They are both heartbroken because they can't be together. They tell each other how much they love each other and she gives him her signet ring. Eadlyn decides to propose to Henri, even though she knows it might not work out. Henri is very excited and accepts immediately.
The next day, just before the engagement is announced, Henri realizes that Eadlyn loves Erik. Henri decides not to marry Eadlyn so that she and Erik can be happy.
Eadlyn secretly asks her father for his opinion, as the rules of the Selection don't allow the princess to marry someone who is not a contestant. Maxon then reveals his back scars to her, telling her about the abuse he had suffered from his father as a child. The first time Maxon was caned was when he found out that his father, King Clarkson, had an affair with a woman, which resulted in an illegitimate daughter. The rules of the country state that all illegitimate royal children should be killed so that they won't claim the throne. But when Maxon became king, he ignored this rule. He found his little half-sister and raised her in the palace near him, keeping her secret identity a secret forever. Eadlyn then understands that Lady Brice is Maxon's half-sister. Just like Maxon broke the law, America and Ahren have also broken some Illéa's rules. But Maxon encourages Eadlyn to follow her heart and marry the man she loves, no matter what the rules say.
Eadlyn then rushes back to the set of the Report and tells everyone that she loves Eikko Koskinen. She asks him to marry her and he says yes. Eadlyn also announces that Illéa will become a constitutional monarchy, with a prime minister, so that everyone can vote and decide for their future.
In the epilogue, Eadlyn talks about what love is and what it means to be happy ever after, which can happen when you least expect it.
In the extra epilogue, six years later, Josie gets married to Kaden, making her dream of becoming a princess come true. Eadlyn and Eikko have a daughter named Kerttu and Eadlyn is expecting another child.

Ean Cabel and Hale Garner deserved so much more. Specially Ean. I’ll forever be mad about how we don’t see them interacting in a meaningful way.
I’m not asking for a big thing, I just needed them talking in different occasions. How am I supposed to believe Hale fell in love with Ean if they didn’t talk a lot?
I know the book is about Eadlyn, but, for example:
Marlee fell in love with Carter, we didn’t know it at first, but there were clues. Several clues. And even if we didn’t see them talking, it all made sense when America found out.
What the fuck am I supposed to take for a clue when talking about Hale? That he’s a tailor?
Everything about Ean makes sense, yeah, but we needed more.

Something Wanted, A Hale/Ean One-Shot
Allrighty folks! Here’s that one shot. I know a few people asked about it yesterday ( I’ll tag down below). Enjoy!
Hale rolled over, tucking the pillow against him. One glance at the clock revealed that he'd been tossing and turning for well over an hour now. True sleep seemed like a distant memory the past couple of weeks. With all the stress, the expectations... there was just too much on his mind.
There was no point in Hale trying to sleep; his mind was too wound up. He climbed out of bed and threw on his robe, carefully tying it. A good, hot cup of chai tea always calmed him after his father died. That, along with some mindless sketching, usually did the trick.
Hale stepped out into the hall, the palace quiet so late at night. Most of the staff were asleep this time of night. He ran into one guard on the way to the kitchen, who gave a courteous nod as he passed. It was almost a nightly thing now, his trek to the kitchen. Hale knew exactly where everything was, how long it would take for him to boil the water. His tea would be perfectly steeped by the time he made it back to his room. In less than ten minutes, he was already on his way back, ready to sketch.
Hale paused on the stairs, sighing deeply. His sketchpad was still in the men's parlor on the first floor, where he was working before dinner. Hale changed course, heading towards the parlor. Soft moonlight streamed through the windows, the light bright in the clear night. The city lights blocked out all but the brightest of stars. The way the light looked against the night sky, the soft, dark greens of the trees against the inky blue of the sky, was beautiful. Hale wondered if he could make a fabric that looked like that, for a dress or a well -tailored suit. The dark navy and green would look fantastic in a tweed. He opened the parlor door, his thoughts lost in fabric and cuts.
"Someone is up late."
The voice startled Hale, making him jump. He steadied himself on a side-table, taking deep breaths to calm his heart. In the far corner, looking perfectly at ease with artfully messy caramel colored hair, sat Ean Cabel. There was a book situated in his hands, his finger marking what page he was on.
"Thanks for terrifying me," Hale countered, moving to grab his sketchbook. It was across the room, sitting on the bottom shelf of the small table by the chair he normally sat in. Now that there were less people here, it seemed the remaining selected had all chosen their spots in the room. Strangely, Ean's was right across from his. Both were near the window, Hale's facing it. The garden view provided inspiration when he was lacking. He leaned down to grab the book, along with a few of his pencils.
"Just use to being in here by myself this late, I guess," Ean mused before going back to his book. "You are welcome to stay, if you like. I promise, you won't bother me."
"Good to know."
Hale turned to leave, his materials tucked under his arm. He paused halfway to the door, turning back to glance over his shoulder. Ean was back to reading his book, his brow furrowed slightly in concentration. Really, the lighting was better in here, the windows larger and perfectly positioned for the moonlight. It was bright enough that the soft light from Ean's reading lamp seemed to pale in comparison. Hale wandered back over to his seat, getting comfortable before opening his pad. He didn't know why, but something felt oddly intimate sitting in the parlor alone with Ean. What bothered Hale even more was that it wasn't uncomfortable. He worked on a new sketch for a while, trying to sort the thoughts in his head.
He liked Eadlyn, a lot, and despite the prodding of Carrie, he just couldn't say he loved her or that he could. Yet, he was still in the selection, still a viable candidate as her Prince Consort. Could he be happy if she chose him? Something just didn't feel right. There was something missing, yet what could possibly be missing from a girl like her, a Princess? He didn't feel any more romantic feelings towards her than Carrie. Everyone, all of his friends, his parents, kept saying that Carrie and him belonged together. Hale didn't feel like he could ever belong together with anyone. If he couldn't make things work with a Princess or Carrie-
"I thought drawing was a quiet pastime."
Hale broke his pencil against the paper, groaning. Ean continued to read his book, a teasing grin on his face.
"Normally it is." Hale set the broken pencil to the side, picking up a spare. He continued to work on his drawing, taking a quick gulp of his tea. He did, however, try to be quieter.
"So, what are you drawing?" Ean sat his book on the table, eyeing Hale in interest.
"What are you reading?" Hale retorted. Ean held up the book, the title too far away to read.
"Treasure Island. Really old book, but one of my favorites."
Hale didn't think Ean would answer. Normally, he kept to himself for the most part, didn't interact much with the other Selected. "Um, clothes, mostly. I like designing them." Hale fidgeted with his hair, brushing it back out of his face.
"I've heard. I have no sense of fashion. Thank god they have people here to dress us."
"I always kind of liked your style. Seemed classic to me," Hale remarked. Ean chuckled and shook his head.
"It's just what I like. Do…do you show people your designs?"
Hale answered with a tentative smile and handed the book to Ean. He studied the page Hale had worked on for a few minutes before moving back to the first page. He took his time, carefully examining each page before moving on to the next. For some reason, Hale's heart began to pound, wondering if Ean would like it.
"You have serious talent, Hale." He remarked with a slow grin. "Your eye for color is impeccable."
"Thanks." An unwilling blush spread across Hale's cheeks, one he hid by taking another sip of his tea. "So what do you do for fun? Besides read really old books and brood in silence?"
Ean laughed. "I don't brood."
"You do. I think you might have said more words to me tonight than you ever have here."
"Maybe everyone else doesn't interest me." Ean let the comment hang in the air. Hale's breath caught, not sure how to respond. "And I like to ride horses."
They talked for hours, about everything and nothing at all. Hale learned that Ean liked Mexican food and snow. His family raised horses and other animals. The more they talked, the more Hale realized that Ean just wasn't an open person. He wasn't stuck up or purposefully brooding, just shy. He was actually…kind of funny. Snarky, but not in a condemning or oppressing way. His quiet nature allowed him to see so much more than the average person. He was perceptive and smart. Plus, the way that his smirk would tilt to the side, like he was laughing at himself, before growing to a full blow smile was endearing beyond anything Hale had ever seen. He glanced at the clock, noting it was just past three in the morning.
"Do you think you'd have moments like this if you are a King?" Ean wondered. "Moments to just stay up late and do whatever you want?"
"I don't know," Hale murmured. "The way Eadlyn talks, it seems a lot more difficult than she or the Report likes to let on."
Ean leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees. "She needs someone who can support her, who can help her handle the weight when it gets too much."
"She can do it," Hale countered, defensive of his friend.
"I know she can. She's driven and capable. But everyone needs help sometimes. You need someone in your corner, no matter what."
Hale nodded his head. He often wished he had that. Everyone always had something to say about what they thought he needed. Why couldn't they just give him time to figure it out for himself? "Did you mean that? On the report? About just looking for a partner?"
Ean's eyes seemed to dim a little before answering. "Yeah, I did."
"Why?" Hale asked. "I mean, do you not want to find someone, fall in love? Do you not want to be happy?" Ean's answer felt tied to his own. If this person, who seemed so deserving of happiness, had no hope, how could he?
Ean turned towards him, a vulnerable look in his eyes. He searched Hale's face like he could hear the myriad of thoughts in his head. "Because it doesn't matter if I want to be happy or not. There's…" Ean sighed deeply before facing the window. "It's just not going to happen for me. I've made peace with it, and I'll try to be as happy as I can."
"Why not?" Hale leaned forward. There was only about an inch of space between their knees. When Ean shifted, Hale felt his elbow brush his. Ean turned his head, their faces close enough that Hale could feel his breath against his face.
"You can be happy, Hale. Eadlyn seems to really like you."
Hale wanted to tell him. He would have said anything to take that look out of his eyes. "I don't like her. I mean, I like her, but not like that."
"What do you like?"
The moment was breathless. It didn't matter that the steady intake of air in Hale's lungs came one after another. He couldn't breathe, couldn't think. The only thought he had was of Ean's warm brown eyes staring into his own, the irises ringed in gold.
Then, Ean kissed him.
At first, Hale was surprised. He froze, unsure, but the pressure of Hale's hands on his cheeks, the steady, sure way he kissed him, was better than any kiss he'd ever had. Ean pulled away, upmost terror in his eyes.
"I'm…oh, I'm so sor-"
Hale didn't let him finish. He pulled Ean close, wanting to feel that kiss again. It was more important than a want; it was a need. He needed to feel his lips, taste them. Hale need to keep his fingers laced in Ean's hair, hear the soft sigh of happiness in between the kisses. This moment could play on repeat, over and over again, and it still wouldn't be enough.
After a moment, Ean pulled away, a look of wonder in his eyes. Both were breathing deeply, a sparkle in their eyes that wasn't there before. Hale knew what it could mean getting caught as they were, they kind of life they would be subjected to, but it didn't matter.
Hale finally found something he wanted.
Please like or reblog! Thanks for reading! :)

The Selection #4 by Kiera Cass
Twenty years ago, America Singer took part in the Selection and Prince Maxon fell in love with her. Now it is Eadlyn's turn to hold a Selection of her own. Eadlyn doesn't expect her Selection to be as perfect as her parents' fairy-tale love story. But as the competition begins, she may find that her own happily ever after isn't as impossible as she always thought.
The book starts with Eadlyn, a 18-year-old, explaining that she was born seven minutes before her twin brother, Ahren. Before, it would be his turn to be the next king of Illéa, but their parents, King Maxon Schreave and Queen America Schreave, changed the law. This meant that Eadlyn could be the first female ruler of the country. This often overwhelms her, but it also makes her feel powerful. Maxon and America have two more sons: Kaden, who is 14, and Osten, who is 10.
Her father has abolished the old social classes, but although people were initially happy about this, many citizens begin to riot all over the country because of unfair treatment. To distract the public until they can figure out a way to fix the situation, her parents suggest that Eadlyn should go through her own Selection. Eadlyn is not keen on the idea as she doesn't feel ready for marriage and doesn't want to love and be married to a stranger. However, she reluctantly agrees to a three-month Selection, for the sake of the country's entertainment, and of her parents, who agree that it's all right if she doesn't choose anyone in the end.
In the end, 35 men are randomly picked, including Kile Woodwork, son of Carter and Marlee Woodwork. He strongly rejects his selection, insisting that he didn't actually apply for it. But now that his name has been announced, he has no choice but to take part, which he and Eadlyn don't like. The two dislike each other, even though they have been raised together in the palace.
During the first interview with the chosen suitors, some of the chosen catch Eadlyn's attention, like the polite Hale Garner, the over-confident Ean Cabel and the always-happy Henri Jaakoppi from Swendway, who can only speak a little English and participates in the selection with the help of his translator, Erik. To impress the country, she organizes a parade through the city so that people can admire her and the Selected Men. But the parade goes wrong when some of the crowd throw food at her, insult her and demand jobs. Eadlyn realizes that some people in the country don't like her, so Ahren suggests that she should not look so distant and scowling, especially in the photos of the Selection.
To make people interested, Eadlyn gets rid of 11 of the Suitors in public, which is quite extreme. Unfortunately, the newspapers criticise her again, calling her a snob and saying she doesn't care about her own Selection. To make the public interested, Eadlyn decides to act like she is interested in the men, even though she isn't. She asks Kile, the only man she knows who has been chosen, to kiss her in front of a hidden camera. The kiss leaves her feeling uneasy because she didn't expect to like it so much.
Eadlyn then goes on a date with Hale. They talk about his life and family, but when she asks about her fashion sketches, which are her hobby, she is afraid of opening herself to him and she leaves. She goes on another date with Baden Trains, where they play music together. She asks Kile to kiss her again, but says she doesn't like him and won't choose him. She later goes on a movie date with Jack Ranger. Things get awkward when he tries to touch her inappropriately, and she panics and kicks him out of the Selection.
During a horse riding date with Ean, he understands that Eadlyn doesn't actually want the Selection. He proposes that if she finds no one suitable in the group, she can choose him. He says he'll settle for a comfortable life as her prince consort, and she'll be free to rule however she wants without ever loving him, because he thinks love is overrated.
Later, Eadlyn cooks in the palace kitchen with Kile, Burke, Renn, Fox, Wesley, Henri and Erik. However, Burke gets angry when Henri, being a professional cook, makes an exceptional dessert, while Burke's appetisers with Fox were just OK. During the fight, Burke punches Fox and accidentally pushes Eadlyn to the floor. Kile and Henri try to stop him. Erik takes Eadlyn away from the fight and into her room. He reveals that his given name is Eikko. She thanks him for his help and as they shake hands, she realizes he is a kind person.
Burke is sent home. Eadlyn talks with Fox and, after learning about his difficult background, she decides to let him stay, as he wasn't really responsible for the fight. Eadlyn kisses Kile again, but this time they talk about the Selection. She tells him that she is glad he was chosen, because she can tell that he is a good person.
Eadlyn learns that people in the poorer provinces are starting a rebellion to end the monarchy because they didn't benefit from the caste dissolution and think the King doesn't care about them. Later that night, Eadlyn finds Henri cooking in the kitchen. After they have cooked together, they share a hesitant, romantic kiss. But Eadlyn is still afraid of falling in love, even though she realizes she really likes some of these men.
Baden tells Eadlyn that he wants to leave the Selection because he feels ignored by her. He is also upset that she did not pay attention to his invitation to go on a date with him earlier. He says she is being too pushy and selfish. This upsets her, and she cries in her room, thinking that other people probably think the same things about her. At that moment, Erik appears and comforts her. He asks if she is upset by their kiss, but she says Henri is one of the kindest people she has ever met. Erik tells her that Henri really likes her and wants to marry her, but says that Henri's difficulty with languages might be a big problem if she starts to have feelings for him. He says he can be her friend, and she says that's OK.
Eadlyn talks with Kile, who comforts her. They both admit that they now want to take part in the Selection, even though she is still afraid to open herself to the boys. He tells her about a design idea he has for small houses for industrial workers in the poorer provinces, while he is studying architecture.
Eadlyn invites the French princess Camille to the palace. Camille is the daughter of Queen Daphne and the next in line to the French throne. Camille is in a relationship with Ahren. They have been completely in love for years. This makes Eadlyn feel uncomfortable and slightly jealous because she has never felt such love and because Camille is just as important to Ahren as she is. Camille is always cheerful and kind, and people love her. Eadlyn wishes she could be like her.
During a party held in Camille's honour, Eadlyn sees Erik, who looks handsome in his formal suit. Eadlyn tells Erik how she feels about Camille, and he says she shouldn't try to be like the French princess because being herself is good enough. He holds her hand and, tentatively, starts to stroke it. He admits that he didn't put his name in the Selection because he is not important, but Eadlyn insists that "he is Eikko" and that being himself is enough. She later dances happily with Henri, noticing though that Erik watches them with a sad smile.
Eadlyn tells Ahren to end his relationship with Camille, saying that she might not be the right person for him, which makes him sad. During dinner the next night, Gavril Fadaye tells Maxon, America and Eadlyn that Ahren and Camille had left Illéa and secretly got married in France, after Queen Daphne gave them her official approval. Eadlyn runs to her room, where she finds a letter from Ahren.
In the letter, after asking for her and their parents' forgiveness, Ahren explains that he decided to marry Camille, after Eadlyn told him to leave her. He realized that his sister disliked his girlfriend only because she was afraid that Camille would "steal" Ahren from Eadlyn. Eadlyn really wanted her brother in her life, and asked him to do a lot of things, maybe even to take the throne for her. But Ahren chose to be with his true love, even though he loved his sister. He told Eadlyn that while Camille is approachable and shares her power fairly, Eadlyn keeps people at a distance and uses her power like a weapon. As a result, many provinces don't want her as their future ruler and she is one of the reasons they are now in a riot. Ahren advises her to be open to her people, to be brave and feminine, and to find love.
Eadlyn is angry and hurt by his words and his departure, but when she goes to her parents' room to inform them about the letter, she finds photos of them during their own Selection, their wedding and the birth of their children. Eadlyn realizes that her father had made this room into a special place to show how much he loves her mother. Now she understands why Ahren chose his girlfriend over his family.
At that moment, she findds out that her mother has had a heart attack. This is after she hears about Ahren and his new wife running off together. She runs to the hospital wing, where she finds her father crying and General Leger comforting him. They are both hoping for the best. Marlee, Kaden, May and the Selected Men also come to pray for America's recovery. Afraid of losing her mother and seeing all those people around her and the strong bonds they share, Eadlyn finally understands how important love is to her. She decides that she wants to find in the Selection someone who will love her, stating that at the end of the Selection, she "will have a ring on her finger."
