Hello my patient friends! Sorry for the wait! It won't be this long again (for real this time)! This is a Christmas fic for last year's Secret Santa, and I've given myself a deadline to finish it before this year's secret Santa. Specifically, I'm trying to finish before December 18, which is mine and @cosette141's birthday! Thanks so much to everyone who's still reading and leaving comments--they keep me going when my brain refuses to write! Thanks especially to @MotherKat for being the best beta EVER! I'm going all out in November, and I've actually already got Chapter 10 written!! So it won't be too long!

But seriously, so sorry it took me this long! ADHD is apparently the boss of me much more than I would like. But I'm hoping to get back on--not nearly an every-day posting schedule, but definitely better than every-four-months.

This Day in X-Project - April 1

Darcy Lewis' birthday

2015: Xavin talks with Matt and is weirded out by the whole school and Generation X thing. Adrienne finds out with her powers that Warren and Jessica had sex in the X-Factor office (and on her desk) and he finds out she’s a mutant; Warren lets Jessica know what happened and they wind up making arrangements to hook up again. Adrienne lets Emma and Garrison know her powers are acting up and she can Read items through things she’s touching. Angel and Tandy go on a donut run and catch up with each other. Tabitha confesses to apparently everything. X-Force learns that the mutant smuggling ring is making a shipment and Artie goes undercover to smoke them out; Felicia has similar plans and winds up getting a save, courtesy of Wanda and North in police uniforms. Tandy drops by Amanda’s magic class and they catch up on the situation with the Dweller in the Dark, still trapped in its own dimension. Angelica leaves a souvenir t-shirt and poker chip for Jean from Vegas and Jean texts her to say thank you. Clarice complains about the field trip curse striking again and the need for retail therapy. Tandy tries to prank Adrienne by telling her she is having Loki’s baby, but Adrienne isn’t fooled. Gabriel and Warren run into each other in a grungy basement nightclub. Miles and Gabriel catch up after Miles has a Danger Room session and Miles invites Gabriel to Easter dinner at his parents’ house.

2016: Darcy posts about April Fools' Day. Adrienne and Garrison text about baseball. Maya responds to a lack of April Fools' antics. Clint wishes Darcy a happy birthday. Are We Ourselves: Clint and Kyle meet up to share information; later that day, Molly, Clint, Natasha and Topaz realize Kyle hasn't made it back to the safehouse.

2017: Maya dares people to talk about the peace and love doctrine in the wake of anti-mutant violence. Hope A. is the first to discover Topaz’s April Fool’s fashion statement. Topaz texts her students to find out who did it. Amanda responds to a request to remove Maya from Warren’s building by security, and things go badly.

2018: Sue leaves a dress for Darcy's birthday. Jubilee leaves Darcy a crocheted science kit.

2019:

2020: Topaz comes to Amanda to talk about joining X-Force.

2021: A parkour video resonates with Jubilee.

2022: Megan sends out an email about the opening of the District X Art Show. Kyle posts after a long day of activities at DX. Reality 01: Proof of Concept: Kitty finds Kane fiddling with the DR and brings his attention to the wormhole. Kane emails Molly asking her to join Kitty and himself. Kane, Kitty, and Molly go to Clint to discuss using their new technology for the wormhole. Clint and Molly come to an understanding after butting heads.

2023: Forge e-mails Artie with specs for a new synthesiser device. Arthur posts a picture of the DXC decked out for April Fool’s. Doug texts Darcy to wish her a happy birthday. Clint leaves Darcy a pair of heels with a note as a birthday gift. Arthur texts Marie-Ange with two mysterious notes made out to her. Marie-Ange posts to X-Force about stolen paintings that showed up at the DXC.

Tudo é válido para alcançar seus objetivos. Foi sobre este ensinamento que Ryu Jinah cresceu. Tendo crescido na parte pobre de Daegu, a diferença de classe entre a parte rica e a parte pobre da cidade era gritante, estando separadas por apenas algumas ruas. Desde muito nova, sempre teve uma beleza notável. Na escola era muito abordada por garotos e isso se tornou cada vez mais frequente, especialmente conforme envelhecia. Aos poucos, foi aprendendo a usar daquela beleza para fazer com que lhe dessem o que quisesse e fizessem o que ela pedisse, afinal, de que lhe serviria tanta beleza levando uma vida tão miserável? Ela precisava sair da casa horrível de sua mãe e logo. Por isso, quando arranjou seu primeiro namorado durante o ensino médio, não hesitou em convencê-lo a deixá-la morar com ele. Era dócil e simpática com os pais do rapaz, que não viram qualquer problema em autorizar que aquilo acontecesse.

A partir daí, um ciclo se iniciou. Toda vez que terminava um relacionamento, logo iniciava outro para não ficar sem amparo, e eventualmente também convencia amizades a lhe darem abrigo. Foi com uma dessas amigas que aos dezenove anos descobriu a “profissão” de camgirl. A menina parecia ganhar muito dinheiro com isso sem precisar sequer mostrar o próprio rosto, então Jinah decidiu se juntar a ela em alguns vídeos e, após perceber o interesse das pessoas, iniciar seu próprio canal. E ela nunca havia sido do tipo que desperdiça uma oportunidade. Ele era milionário, dono de uma rede de hotéis na Coreia do Sul das quais tinha apenas o dinheiro, pois pagava para que cuidassem de tudo para si, para que pudesse viajar pelo mundo e fazer o que quisesse. Era tudo o que a menina sempre quis para si, por isso, apenas aceitou, e foi aceitando tudo que vinha do homem. Por dois anos viajaram o mundo juntos, ele a levou para conhecer todos os lugares bonitos que havia e a comprou as roupas mais caras, as melhores bolsas e todos os sapatos que ela desejou. Quando ela demonstrou o interesse em aprender novas línguas, lhe pagou os melhores tutores, que os acompanhavam nas viagens apenas para que não precisassem pará-las para que ela estudasse. Ela mudou seu nome legalmente para Serafina e criou toda uma identidade em cima disso, enterrando Jinah no chão sujo da periferia de Daegu onde havia crescido, e criou uma nova história para si. Uma nova identidade, como uma coreana que havia sido criada na Argentina desde pequena pela avó. E essa é a história que conta até hoje. Não é difícil manter a história, afinal, não têm fotos de infância e nada que a prove o contrário.

Não foi difícil usar o homem mais velho para se reinventar. Ele nunca havia lhe contado de filhos, irmãos ou uma ex-mulher. Não tinha mais os pais e era um homem solitário, tendo apenas uma menina de apenas 21 anos a quem se apegar. Então, gastava tudo com ela. Ajudou-a a lançar sua primeira e única mixtape, que flopou intensamente de todas as formas por ter sido lançado de maneira independente. Lhe pagou aulas de dança nas melhores academias e até mesmo mexeu uns pauzinhos para que fosse aceita em uma empresa de entretenimento, patrocinando seu debut em 2017 com um grupo pequeno que também foi muito mal e logo disbandou com apenas uma música. Mesmo assim, ela tinha tido a oportunidade de viver seu sonho por um tempo curto, o que fazia Serafina ser muito grata àquele que o realizava.

Apesar de tudo, ela acabou se apegando a ele, de certa forma. Não tinha sentimentos pelo homem, mas nutria certo carinho pelo solteirão solitário, o suficiente para ter se sentido sozinha quando o homem morreu lhe deixando uma quantia espalhafatosa de dinheiro, bens pessoais e uma mansão em Gangnam. Era até ridículo para alguém que havia crescido com tanto agora ser tão rica, mas nem tudo poderia ser perfeito, visto que seu direito sobre essas coisas estava sendo contestado pelos filhos do homem, que ela descobriu a existência apenas em seu velório. Os três rapazes (sendo o mais novo de sua idade, vinte e dois anos na época) não achavam justo que ela ficasse com tanto, mesmo que tivessem ficado com muito mais que ela. Porém, a justiça decidiu que o dinheiro e as ações nas empresas do homem eram dela por direito, visto que ele estava em plenas posses de suas faculdades mentais quando escreveu seu testamento. Ken Masters

Ken Masters has a Ryu Number of 50.

First things first; yes, obviously, Ken Masters has an actual Ryu Number of 1.

This April Fools’ post is primarily inspired by this tweet from the Twitter account, where Ken’s Ryu Number was maximized to 21 under the limitation of one character per franchise to avoid trivial extensions.

So, naturally, when @jenni-e-doodles sent in the above tongue-in-cheek ask also in August of 2021, I decided to take a stab at it myself with the justification of April Fools’ and the additional limitation of one link per franchise, partially to avoid bouncing back and forth between entries of crossover series and partially just to see if I could.

Admittedly, I did stretch the definition of "franchise", especially with regard to real life people. I generally interpreted that as "sphere of relevance", and even then by far the dodgiest is probably not counting Brock Lesnar and Masahiro Chono under one category of professional wrestling. (In my defense, they had exactly one match together, even if said match was a three-way for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship that Lesnar won as his debut, and Lesnar's brief but notable stint in UFC makes him relevant in the MMA sphere, which cannot be said for Chono, even when that actually was true for some of his NJPW colleagues.)

I also tried to use links that had no noteworthy caveats at all, and came real close: Code Shifter's a bit iffy since all the characters in question are technically data for an in-universe game called Colorful Fighters. The ruling per the Twitter account FAQ is that the eligibility of in-universe media depictions is answered by the question “How lazy is it?”, which probably falls in Code Shifter’s favor since, past the part where it’s explicitly an ArcSys crossover first and foremost, you can outright play Colorful Fighters in Code Shifter.

Still, had I caught this earlier, I probably would have rerouted the whole thing to avoid it. (As it happened, I worked out it that it would probably require rerouting past at least Reimu, which was more effort than I was willing to put in at that point. Oops.)

All in all, I’m quite surprised that I not only hit my initial ambitious goal of 50, but probably had room for a few more. (You might notice a few blog staples are conspicuously missing.) This took an unconscionable amount of effort to plan and put together, but I’m glad it’s resonated as well as it has.

And while it wasn’t my intention in the slightest, I apparently did manage to actually fool at least one person.

So that’s neat, I guess.

10 Tips for Pitching Your Novel

A great pitch is like a poem.  Every word counts.

Make us fall in love with your hero.  Whether you’re writing a novel or memoir, you have to make us root for your flawed but lovable hero.

Make us hate your villain.  Show us someone unique and dastardly whom we can’t wait to hiss at.

Just because your kids love to hear your story at bedtime doesn’t mean you’re automatically qualified to get a publishing deal. Make sure to include only relevant information in your pitch.

If you have any particular expertise that relates to your novel, tell us. Establishing your credentials will help us trust you.

Your pitch is your audition to show us what a brilliant writer you are, so it has to be the very best of your writing.

Don’t make your pitch a book report.  Make it sing and soar and amaze.

A pitch is like a movie trailer.  You start with an incredibly exciting/funny/sexy/romantic/etc. close-up with intense specificity, then you pull back to show the big picture and tell us the themes and broad strokes that build to a climax.

Leave us with a cliffhanger.  The ideal reaction to a pitch is, “Oh my God, what happens next?”

Show us what’s unique, exciting, valuable, awesome, unexpected, about your project, and also why it’s comfortable, familiar and proven.
