Events In The History And Of The Life Of Elvis Presley Today On The 12th Of November In 1972
Elvis Presley Tour And Show Comes To San Bernardino CA.
A look back at Elvis Presley's 1972 outstanding concert at swing auditorium in San Bernardino CA
Sunday night, Nov. 12, 1972. The Santa Ana winds were howling, so typical of San Bernardino in November. And it was cold. But a sold-out crowd stood patiently to have an audience with The Legend . Elvis Presley was in the Swing Auditorium.
The Swing was the place east of L.A.'s Fabulous Forum to see virtually every top name act in the rock world, circa 1964 through 1981. Located on E Street, the auditorium was built in 1949 on the grounds of the National Orange Show and was named for Senator Ralph E. Swing, a San Bernardino legislator. What a glorious barn it was and what history played out on that stage. The Rolling Stones did their first American concert there in June 1964. The place rocked until a small plane crashed into it on Sept. 11, 1981 and the auditorium had to be demolished. One of the last shows played there featured Iron Maiden.
In between, rock royalty were regulars. Fleetwood Mac played more than five times. The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Jefferson Airplane, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Cream, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Black Sabbath, Ramones (as opening act), Chicago, Jethro Tull, Alice Cooper, the Grateful Dead (multiple times), Faces with Rod Stewart (also multiple times), Santana, the Kinks, Janis Joplin, Eric Clapton, the Beach Boys, and more. Look up how many of these acts are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Just about everybody but the Beatles made it to the Swing.
Prior to the modern rock era, Bob Hope was almost an annual fixture at the Swing during the National Orange Show Fair. Other notables who performed there in the '50s and '60s included Sammy Davis Jr., Jack Benny, Judy Garland, Jerry Lewis, and George Burns. But never had a King played there before that night.
Yet, it wasn't as if Elvis Presley had never been to the IE. He did own a house for several of the Priscilla years in Palm Springs and was known to do some boating in Big Bear Lake. Many scenes of the totally forgettable remake movie 'Kid Galahad' were shot in Idyllwild. And, some of the outdoor footage in 1964's 'Kissin' Cousins' was shot in the San Bernardino Mountains. Still, this was different.
Elvis Presley's nationwide tour began at Madison Square Garden in New York, a city he had never before performed live in. The four concerts there were sold out and got rave reviews. At 37, he was 'lean, tanned and greasily handsome, his coal-black hair glistening with an oily 1950s sheen', as the New York Times' Grace Lichtenstein put it. At a press conference before the Madison Square Garden appearance, he was asked about the secret of his longevity on the pop music scene. 'I take Vitamin E', he told reporters.
From New York, the tour moved west, passing through cities like Milwaukee, Chicago, Wichita and Tulsa before continuing on to Las Vegas. Elvis stayed there for most of October before continuing the tour, which took him to Texas, Arizona, and into California. He hit Oakland, then San Bernardino, where he performed two sold-out shows - one on Nov. 12 and another on Nov. 13. rom there, he headed to the Long Beach Arena for two shows, the last stop before catching a plane for Honolulu where the tour would wrap up. Originally, the Honolulu show was planned to be broadcast worldwide by satellite, but the broadcast date was changed to early 1973 so it wouldn't conflict with the release of MGM's musical documentary Elvis on Tour. No matter. The show (actually four of them) went on. And in Honolulu, as well as in other cities on the tour, fans of all ages crowded concert venues to get a live view of the King.
So it was in San Bernardino. The Swing could hold about 10,000 people with a concert take of around $60,000. On that cold November night, fans crammed into the sold-out auditorium. With reserved seating, there was none of the festival seating chaos that marked the Swing rock shows - kids pushing and shoving and fighting to get to the stage area. This crowd was real diferent. I was way too young at 21. For the usual Swing rock show, most of the concertgoers were my age or younger. The guys had long hair, wore boots, Levis and denim work shirts (think the cover of a Creedence album.) The girls went braless, wore tight jeans or peasant dresses. There were always more guys than girls.
For Elvis Presley though, these fans had jobs, mortgages, and kids. The women clearly outnumbered the guys. They wore bright yellow or orange dresses, lots of makeup. Hairspray was huge. And, there were more than a few suicide blondes with hot pants and go-go boots. (I would never have sat on anything in the Swing in hot pants.) Jean Naté was locked in mortal combat with Charlie in a fragrance war. My Sin perfume held its own. Smoke from the bathrooms came from real Marlboro men (and women.)
My seat was in the cheap section - off to the side and high up, close to the glued-on tinsel that was a prominent feature of the Swing. The place always had a peculiar smell. Close to show time, greedy Colonel Tom's minions were at the stage hawking T-shirts, photos, and other assorted gee-gaws. I wonder just how much of that cash Elvis Presley received.
Finally, the lights lowered. The band started playing the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Then, there he was - The King. He was resplendent in a black and red concert suit.
Though his show was typical of his Vegas show that he performed at the International Hotel (later known as the Las Vegas Hilton and now called the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino), it didn't matter to his loyal subjects. He was live in San Berdoo! Old ladies screamed. It was hard to tell from my cheap seat, but I believe there were a few panties thrown at him.
His voice and physique were in A-plus form. He ripped through concert standards such as 'Polk Salad Annie', crooned to crowd favorite 'Can't Help Falling In Love', and did a couple of religious numbers with the gospel group J.D. Sumner and The Stamps.
No Elvis Presley show would be complete without the hits 'Hound Dog', 'All Shook Up', 'Jailhouse Rock', and 'American Trilogy'.
His band and entourage - the Sweet Inspirations, legendary guitar hero James Burton - provided a full sound that could not be duplicated by the typical four-man rock act. It was a show truly becoming of a King. The crowd responded as if seeing him for the first time. Bedlam broke out among the thousands of fans.
After about 90 minutes, despite fans calling for more, Elvis Presley left the auditorium for the San Bernardino Hilton, about $60,000 richer. I was a poor college kid. I went to Del Taco. What a Sunday night! rare candid photo's one captured of elvis presley leaving Oakland CA captured here by a female ep fan boarding is executive chartered jet heading to San Bernardino CA and performing here at this show wearing the white pinwheel jumpsuit and the white cape and the lions head belt captured by a fan audience member who was at this show concert.

For the Sambucky romance asks, I'd love to see your take on, "🚪 Roommates"!
Roommates is one of my favorite tropes for them! 😌 Keep an eye out for extra scenes attached to this on AO3 soon 👀
Bucky had to assume Sam was always wondering what he'd done to get stuck with a shitty roommate situation. He knew Sam had other friends on the team and that no one wanted to share a hotel room with the major leaguer who'd been sent back down to the organization’s minor league team for injury recovery. Baseball players were superstitious. Bucky's impending firing was as good as contagious to them. With such a road-game heavy line-up, he and Sam had spent more than enough time for Sam to catch whatever was tailing Bucky.
Still, he liked to think he'd made it up to Sam a few dozen times over by now, two months into the season.
He let Sam take his left arm from his chest, tucking his right under his head as he turned a little and watched Sam trace the scars from his latest rounds of surgery. One long, thin one up his forearm, the deeper circular one around his elbow, the thin one up his bicep, and then the circle around his shoulder. Like an artist had sketched out the bare-bones beginning of a human body on his. Then a cruel woodworker had gone in and twisted all of his inner workings until he was almost a puppet back on its strings again.
But with Sam's warm hands on him, he didn't much care about the surgeries or their impossible recoveries. "You thinkin' 'bout anything specific?" he asked.
"I can feel my heartbeat in the hickey you put on my throat," Sam answered, then frowned and ticked his head to the side a little. "That's not what I meant to say. That's just what I was actually thinking in the moment."
Bucky laughed, freed his hand, and touched one of the barely there bruises. Mostly just irritation marks on Sam's skin. "So what were you really thinkin’ about?"
Sam shrugged. "The game mostly. The guys out at dinner right now. Sitting here doing this while we waited for appetizers." His fingers kept tracing up and down the scar on Bucky's forearm.
During games, Bucky wore a compression sleeve. It was about impossible to hide from everyone else in the locker room, but he usually kept the evidence of his surgeries out of everyone's eyesight otherwise. His compression sleeve during the games, a jacket at all other times. He couldn’t bear people staring, or the non-stop game coverage about his injury. The less they saw, they less they reacted.
Sam had been the first one to really see all of the scars, on virtue of them practically living together now. Sam was something of a hot-shot, as far as Bucky was concerned. Young and ready to prove himself without a lot of high level gameplay behind him. He'd played one year of college ball, then tried for a walk-on tryout with their major league affiliation. By some miracle, someone took notice of him and stuck him on the minor league team to grow a little. He'd only been around for a season and a half--and Bucky hadn't been around for a bit of it thanks to his surgery--but he was still hungry and eager.
Bucky had expected some kind of revulsion from the kid. Bucky would've been freaked out at his age. Marks like these usually spelled the end of the road for pitchers like Bucky. Superstitions. But Sam had just scoffed a little and told Bucky to use Vitamin E oil instead of just letting them get dried out. Then again, Sam wasn't a pitcher, so there was that at least.
Bucky liked laying in bed with Sam. He was warm and real and he always smelled good, even after a game when Bucky hadn't let him back into the shower yet. He leaned over to press his nose against Sam's temple and heard Sam snicker and then sigh below him.
"You're so weird, Barnes," he said softly. He finished trailing his fingers up Bucky's arm, across his shoulder, and into his hair. He guided Bucky back against the bed and turned over him, settling his weight against Bucky's body as he buried his face in Bucky's neck. "Why do I even put up with you?"
"I dunno," Bucky said. "'Cause you think sleepin' with me'll get you a fast track to the majors?" he suggested sarcastically.
Sam hummed an 'mhm' against the soft skin of the bottom of his jaw.
"'Cause you got the shit travel buddy assignment and can't argue about it?" Bucky added as Sam started to work a bruise to the surface of Bucky's skin.
Sam nodded and pressed his tongue against the non-mark before moving back to his neck so he could trace a dried line of sweat as it snaked from the back of Bucky's ear to his shoulder.
"'Cause I'm super hot and a really good lay?" he finished.
Sam groaned exaggeratedly and hugged his arms around Bucky's waist, going boneless and drawing a breathless groan from Bucky at the sudden extra weight. "That's probably a lot of it," he admitted. "Everything else started it, but that one keeps you around," he admitted. Bucky could feel Sam's grin against his skin and it was the best feeling in the world.
Bucky gently brushed his fingers over the short crop of Sam's hair idly and let Sam trace nonsense patterns over his ribs. "You think about holding my hand at dinner?" he eventually couldn't help but tease.
"Nope," Sam lied against his shoulder. "The moment passed."
Bucky laughed quietly and pulled Sam's hand away from his chest when he got too close to his nipples and could really get to be a tease. He twined their fingers together and examined their hands quite seriously in the dim light of the hotel lamps. The first serendipitous thing about this roommate assignment was that they both preferred the soft light of lamps to the overhead light. Should've known it was fate, Bucky figured. Superstitions and all that.
Sam shifted around so he was laying beside Bucky again, looking up at their hands too. "We should really head out to dinner," he said as he brushed his thumb over the back of Bucky's hand.
"Yeah," Bucky agreed. "I'm s'posed to be makin' friends."
"Ha," Sam huffed. Turned his face against Bucky's so now it was his nose pressed to Bucky's cheek. "What happened to 'I'm only gonna be here long enough to recover. I don't needa know anyone's names,'" he teased in a rough approximation of Bucky's surly pout.
"Yeah, well, it's not so bad down here," he admitted, turning so their noses were pressed together now. "Just takes one good roommate to change my mind, I guess."
Sam rolled his eyes. It was a move that Bucky largely missed being so close to each other like this, features already a blur. "We should shower before we go to dinner."
"We should absolutely shower," Bucky agreed. He brought his hand up to cup Sam's face, kissed him deeply until Sam opened up beneath him and went pliant.
Dinner was the last thing on his mind.

Firefighter AU Masterlist
9-1-1 (ao3) - amoree999 steve/bucky N/R, 7k
Summary: Sirens
“Firefighter fell through a two story burning building, unconscious possible concussion and internal bleeding” Paramedic Chi tells the attending nurses who flock the gurney being wheeled into the ER.
“What do We got?” Steve asks jumping into action, “Firefighter hurt on the job fell through a two story burning building Medics said possible concussion and internal bleeding” Danvers says, “Danvers run a line of blood, plasma, vitamin K and platelets” Rogers says, “Jones help me with his uniform” Steve says cutting the turn outs off the firefighter and taking his helmet along with the rest of his gear off. Rogers listens to his heart, lungs, and checks his airways before pressing around on his stomach looking for the source of his internal bleed. “Abdominal bleed left side” He says, “Jacques! Page the attending tell ‘em to open an OR now!” He checks the fireman’s pupillary response, “Both left and right pupils responding normal, CAT scan after he comes out of surgery. Airways are clear but treat him for smoke inhalation anyway, his mask was cracked. MOVE PEOPLE!”
45 minutes earlier….
Burnt Sand (ao3) - maikurosaki steve/bucky E, 30k
Summary: Steve Rogers thinks he's completely fine: he's a great firefighter, he has awesome friends, and his occasional interactions with Bucky Barnes always put a smile on his face. But, in between a rescue mission at work that leaves him shaken and a blast from the past that leaves him reeling, Steve comes to the realization that he needs to be brave and go after what he wants. The problem is he's not sure he can follow this through.
Or: Steve Rogers is a firefighter with commitment issues. Bucky Barnes is an army veteran turned bartender with a different set of issues. Somehow, they make it work.
Engine 12 (ao3) - bethy_277 pepper/tony, hope/scott N/R, 41k
Summary: Tony Stark is a 30something firefighter in New York City, when he saves 6 year old Peter Parker from a fire. The kid loses his parents in the fire, and for some reason, he takes a place in Tony's heart.
Eternal Flame (ao3) - 74days steve/bucky, pepper/tony T, 14k
Summary: There's a bet at the Firehouse that Barton'll go for more than anyone else at the Charity Auction - and Bucky finds himself roped into the whole thing against his will.
It's all fun and games until a mystery phone bidder pays waaaaay to much to get Bucky alone.
He's gonna end up dead in an alleyway because of Barton and his stupid bet.
Everything Happens For A Riesling (ao3) - TaraSoleil G, 1k
Summary: A fire at Stark's mansion leaves firefighters Steve & Bucky trapped.
Gotta Have Some Hot Stuff, Gotta Have Some Love Tonight (ao3) - OriginalCeenote bucky/clint, steve/sam M, 5k
Summary: “We’ve got another call, Barton.”
“Huh?”
“Get back in the rig. Stop staring at Barnes’ ass.” Nat’s voice sounded more amused than impatient, and Clint realized that he was staring. Wasn’t his damned fault that Barnes was wearing those khaki Dickies pants, was it?
I Stare Into the Fire (It Signifies My Desire) (ao3) - laudatenium steve/tony T, 6k
Summary: They keep telling Tony to evacuate. The smoke's too thick, he'll suffocate.
But who's gonna force him to leave? Not the fire captain, no sir.
More than Friends (ao3) - Neverever steve/tony T, 7k
Summary: Deputy Police Chief Tony Stark wonders if there is more to his flirting with the new Fire Chief Steve Rogers. After all, everyone treats them like they come as a matched set. Meanwhile Steve wants to find the serial arsonist in town.
not shy of a spark (ao3) - burning_brighter art (burning_brighter), cable-knit-sweater (cable_knit_sweater) steve/bucky, wanda/sam E, 5k
Summary: EMT Steve doesn't like firefighters. They're arrogant, more muscle than brains, and everyone falls over themselves for these supposed heroes. He really can't stand them, and doesn't understand how his friend and colleague Wanda can be attracted to any of them.
Firefighter Bucky going into an unsafe building with an oxygen tank that's low is just more proof of their stupidity. But when Bucky comes out of the building cradling a tiny cat to his chest, Steve can't help but be a little endeared.
It doesn't change anything though; firefighters are still the worst.
Or that's what he tells himself, even as he goes to check up on the cat later that week.
Definitely to check on the cat, not because he wants to see Bucky again. He certainly isn't disappointed to hear Bucky has transferred to another firehouse.
It's also what he tells himself when Bucky shows up to work at Steve's firehouse the next week. Steve doesn't do firefighters. No matter how cute. Right?
Unfortunately, Bucky turning out to not be as bad as he initially thought - and maybe also his tendency to walking around half naked at work - makes it a little harder for Steve to stick to his story.
Playing with Fire (ao3) - shatteredhourglass bucky/clint E, 5k
Summary: “Three o’clock,” Natasha says and Clint looks automatically, not registering the glint of mischief in her eyes until he’s already looking.
“Why is he stripping,” Clint whispers, outraged.
Bucky Barnes is standing a few meters away from them, tugging his shirt over his head. He doesn’t wax his chest during the winter months, apparently, because there’s a trail of dark hair that Clint really, really wants to get his mouth on. He’s stuck staring like an idiot as Bucky throws his shirt over the door of the firetruck, every inch of his ridiculously hot upper half on display. He can almost feel the brain cells in his head frying just from the sight.
Stoke This Fire In My Heart (ao3) - JustAnotherMarvelGirl wanda/vision T, 1k
Summary: When Wanda gets injured on the job, Vision can't deny his feelings for her anymore.
The best view comes after the hardest climb (ao3) - hopelessly_me bucky/clint T, 1k
Summary: On the ten year anniversary of 9/11, Bucky finally joined his support group in participating in the 911 Tower Challenge.
The Hazards Of Falling In Love (Rescue Me) (ao3) - EmmaLostInWonderland T, 4k
Summary:
“So that’s your name?” Rogers hasn't looked away from him once. His eyes are a piercing blue, and Tony barely manages to keep from squirming under his gaze.
“Yeah. Or Telecommunications Operator Stark, if we’re getting technical about it.”
“Are we?”
Tony tilts his head slightly. “Depends. Can I call you Steve?”
The man grins. “Wouldn’t have it any other way, Tony.”
// Tony Stark doesn't date firemen. But he'll make an exception for Battalion Chief Steve Rogers.
The heat of you (ao3) - queerastronaut sam/bucky, background carol/maria M, 15k
Summary: Sam's a paramedic. Bucky's a firefighter. They hate each other's gut but somehow, they keep saving each other's lives. Until one day, the fire gets too big too fast and Sam realizes that he may not hate James Barnes as much as he thought.
the new romeo and juliet (ao3) - imposterhuman bucky/tony G, 2k
Summary: Bucky and Tony weren’t dating, because a firefighter and a detective couldn’t date (never mind that Tony hadn’t slept with anyone else since their thing had started, and he and Bucky hung out with an alarming frequency, and the whole precinct thought that they were an item). It didn't matter how many nights they spent together, how Bucky had a drawer of Tony's things and vice versa, they just couldn't.
It was a classic Romeo and Juliet situation, if Romeo and Juliet actively disliked each other on top of everything.
Trying to Stay Warm (ao3) - freedvmrouge G, 2k
Summary: After waking up from the ice, what if Steve became a firefighter-paramedic instead?
Wildfire (ao3) - 70SecretKinks steve/bucky T, 1k
Summary: No amount of training in the world could prepare rookie firefighter Steve Rogers for the force and fury of a California wildfire. But even a sea of fiery flames paled in comparison to hot-as-hell fellow fireman, Bucky Barnes.

From Pasture to Parlor: The Impact of Nutrition on Milk Quality
Milk begins its trip when the sun sets on peaceful fields and dawns in crowded parlors. Did you realize that dairy cow nutrition greatly affects milk quality? Welcome to a trip that reveals the complex relationship between nutrition and milk quality. Imagine the dairy cow's diet as a symphony of nutrients, each important to milk composition. Her diet directly impacts the composition, flavor, and color of her milk. The cow's diet affects milk's protein content. Higher milk protein content from optimal protein consumption makes dairy products creamier and richer. Milk fat, which gives it flavor and texture, is closely linked to dietary fat. A balanced diet balances fatty acids, improving milk taste and texture. Vitamins improve milk quality like actors in a play. Vitamin E's antioxidant qualities extend milk's shelf life and preserve its deliciousness. Calcium and phosphorus, cow-diet products, determine milk's mineral composition. Proper mineral intake gives cows healthy bones and milk nutrients. Omega-3 fatty acid-rich diets can increase milk omega-3 content. This increase in healthy fatty acids helps consumers and dairy products. Roughage helps dairy cows digest and maintain stomach pH. A proper pH level improves milkv quality and prevents metabolic problems. Nutrition affects dairy farming's environmental impact. Optimal diets reduce waste and environmental impact by maximizing nutrient use. From barn to processing facility, milk's nutritional fingerprint persists. Nutrition affects taste, quality, and consumer satisfaction throughout production.
In conclusion, nutrition's impact on milk quality leads from pasture to parlor. A well-balanced diet guarantees that every drop of milk has nutrients that enhance our meals and lives. Let's celebrate milk's extraordinary journey, where nutrition and quality produce a symphony of flavor and nourishment from a well-fed cow's udder.

Camelina Oil For Horses
Camelina Oil For Horses
Other equestrians at the barn may have been buzzing about adding oil to your horse’s diet, and this is an effective approach that can have more than a few different benefits. There are also many different oils out there that you can choose from. Some are certainly more beneficial for your equine partners than others. One of the better oil options out there is camelina oil.
Read on to learn more about what camelina oil is, as well as how it can benefit your horse, and how much of it you should implement into your horse’s diet for these sorts of effects!
What Is Camelina Oil?
The oil that we know as camelina oil comes from the seeds of the camelina sativa plant, and it is extracted from these seeds. The camelina sativa plant is also known as false flax. The oil contains between 35% to 40% of alpha linolenic acid, or ALA, for short. ALA is one of the essential Omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 fatty acids are known to be healthy and good for the body, as they are anti inflammatory and decrease the activation of the immune system. However, when it comes to your horse, ALA needs to first be converted to DHA, also called docosahexaenoic acid, or EPA, which is also known as eicosapentaenoic acid, to be able to be active in your horse’s body. Below, we will go over some more of the characteristics of the oil we know as camelina oil.
Characteristics of Camelina Oil
As we mentioned above, camelina oil is extracted from the Camelina sativa oil seeds. The plant is classified as part of the Brassicaceae family, the family that is also home to plants such as flax, cabbage, and mustard plants, to name a few. The Camelina sativa plant can be found as a native plant of Central Asia and Northern Europe, too. It is grown in other areas where it is not a native plant, such as the United States, Canada, and other parts of Europe. It dates back more than 3000 years as a food source as well as being a source of oil for oil lamps.
Vitamin E Content
One of the naturally occurring vitamins and nutrients in camelina oil is vitamin E. This vitamin functions to protect the fatty acids from issues like oxidation and it also improves the shelf life of the oil or product. When it comes to the volume of vitamin E in camelina oil, 100 ml of oil will contain 150 IU, or international units, of naturally occurring vitamin E. This amount is higher than the vitamin E levels in flax oil or most other plant oils. It also means that camelina oil is less likely to be susceptible to peroxidation—- or to be put simply, to going rancid. Camelina oil has a low amount of vitamin E, but it is still high when compared to the content of other plant oils.
Fatty Acid Profile
There are different fats or fatty acids in camelina oil. These include saturated fat at 7.9%, oleic acid (or Omega 9) at 16.7%, eicosenoic acid at 16.1%, linoleic acid (or Omega 6) at 16.9%, and linolenic acid (or Omega 3) at 38.1%. Therefore, the Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio in camelina oil is 2:2:1. It is important for an oil to have a good balance of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids, which camelina oil clearly does!
Additional Active Ingredients
There are some other important active ingredients in camelina oil, too. The fatty acid profile of this oil is mostly ALA. However, there are other fatty acid molecules with great health effects. For example, oxylipins are a group of different lipid mediators that can be found in fungi, plants, and animals. These molecules can be thanked for some of the health benefits of flax. The oxylipins in camelina oil can also be attributed to some of the health benefits of this particular oil, too!
Benefits of Camelina Oil For Horses
There are plenty of different oils out there, so why should you choose camelina oil over the others? Camelina oil possesses many different health benefits, with some being more aesthetic benefits for your horse, and others being more practical and functional. Think, for example, of a shiny coat versus healthy joints. We will go over some of the commonly touted benefits of camelina oil below, so read on to determine if camelina oil is right for you and your horse.
Joint Health
The first benefit of camelina oil that we will be discussing is joint health. Fatty acids like the Omega fatty acids that are found in camelina oil are used to increase joint health and have anti inflammatory properties. These anti inflammatory properties can help to prevent or treat the inflammation that can occur in a horse’s joints, especially as they begin to age and their joints deteriorate. Many aging horses or working horses experience issues with their joints, as the friction between bones increases and there is less to cushion the joint— leading to the aforementioned inflammation. Studies have also shown that when cartilage is agitated and inflamed, high levels of ALA can inhibit the resulting inflammation.
Skin Health
Next, we have the benefit of skin health. Many oils can be attributed to healthy skin, and for some breeds, this is something that is especially needed as a supplement because they are prone to more skin issues like allergies and inflammation, among others. Omega 3 fatty acids, as found in camelina oil, can be seen to have an effect in skin allergies like the ones resulting from the biting midge known as Culcoides. Just as some humans have skin issues that can be treated with oils and fatty acids, horses can be similarly affected— and treated!
Coat Health
Of course, we all want a horse with a healthy coat, if not just for our horse’s wellbeing, but for shows and competitions, too. Oils such as camelina oil have been found to affect the appearance and health of a horse’s coat. The Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids in camelina oil, for instance, help to support sebum production. Sebum is the name for a mix of cholesterol and fats that coats the horse’s hair and skin— sebum is also what gives the horse’s coat its shine and its luster. By supporting sebum production, these fatty acids also help to support a healthy coat and provide defense against irritants.
Weight Gain
Many oils are utilized to help facilitate healthy weight gain, and camelina oil has this benefit as well. Instead of adding more food to your horse’s daily intake, you can add an oil such as camelina oil to add calories to their diet without increasing the volume of food that your horse is expected to consume. Not only can this be cost effective, but it can be good for horses that have trouble with weight gain or do not have big appetites, therefore meaning that they have trouble maintaining their healthy weight.
Does My Horse Need Camelina Oil?
There are some characteristics of a horse that make it a good candidate for camelina oil, and then there are some characteristics that make horses poor candidates for camelina oil, too. For instance, if your horse already struggles with obesity or easily gains weight, then an addition of oil— any oil— into their diet is usually not a wise move. However, if you have a horse that has a low appetite and struggles with being able to maintain a healthy weight, or struggles to gain weight when required, then camelina oil can be a good way to support your equine partner in this. In addition, horses that deal with skin allergies and skin sensitivities, or need help keeping their coat shiny and healthy, can also benefit from camelina oil. It is another way to support these aspects of your horse without getting a specific skin or coat supplement. Horses with arthritis or joint pain can also benefit from the addition of camelina oil into their diet, especially older or working horses.
How Much Camelina Oil Should I Give My Horse?
Once you have determined if camelina oil will be beneficial to your horse and for its specific needs, you will then need to make sure you are giving them the proper amount of the oil so that they can soak up the benefits! The general rule of thumb for adding camelia oil to your horse’s diet is to measure out 100 ml for every 100 kg of mass of the horse. When you are adding the oil to your horse’s food, it is usually recommended that you just drizzle the oil straight over their grain or feed. It’s important to avoid overdoing it with the oil, though, because too much oil can lead to too much weight gain, as well as digestive issues.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the benefits of camelina oil for horses?
You may see other equestrians, or even your vet, recommending the addition of camelina oil as a supplement to your horse’s diet. Why is this? Camelina oil is an oil that is taken from the seeds of a plant known as the camelina sativa plant, or false flax, as it is also known as. It is typically added to your horse’s diet as an Omega 3 fatty acid supplement, and this is used to help aid in weight gain, as well as in supporting joint health and coat quality.
How much camelina oil should I give my horse?
When you decide to add camelina oil to your horse’s diet, it should be used as a top dressing on your horse’s grain. You can also take the camelina oil and simply drizzle it right on top of the horse’s feed. The quantity of camelina oil that you drizzle on top of this grain or feed is also important— you do not want to overdo it, as too much oil can cause certain issues with your horse like too much weight gain. A daily dose of about 30 to 50 ml, either once or twice a day, is all you will need to add to your horse’s food to make sure that they still get all of the amazing benefits of the camelina oil! The exact dosage will depend upon the weight and mass of your horse, as with doses of medicine or supplements. Another rule of thumb with oils is to administer about 100 ml for every 100 kg that your horse weighs. You should consult with your vet for the best dose for your horse’s individual needs.
What is the best oil to put in horse feed?
There are so many different oils out there that you can add to your horse’s food so that they can reap the benefits, such as weight gain, extra sugar free calories, or increased coat and skin health. Linseed oil is thought to be one of the best options for your horse, because linseed oil is known to have high Omega 3 levels, as well as being easily palatable for your horse. Canola oil is another one of the best oils for your horse because it contains a very good balance of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids, unlike some oils that do not have as good of a ratio or balance between the two.
Is camelina oil good for horses with ulcers?
One of the oils that is used for horses with ulcers is hemp seed oil, as it contains GLA. Camelina oil does not contain GLA, though, so it cannot be used as a substitute for hemp seed oil to treat ulcers in your horse. However, camelina oil can be added to the diet of a horse in conjunction with hemp seed oil so that it can give the horse increased antioxidant support. It is important for an oil to be able to help reduce the amount of stomach acid in the horse to deal with ulcers.

American consumers purchase an average of 280 eggs per year, so you’ve probably noticed that eggs can be harder to come by these days while their price rose more than any other grocery item in 2022. This so-called “eggflation” has stretched into 2023 with the price of eggs rising 8.5% in January compared to the month before. There are multiple factors contributing to the ongoing egg shortage and price spike, including the worst outbreak of avian flu ever recorded that has wiped out millions of egg-laying hens. If you don’t want to crack your egg habit and are looking for a place where eggs are plentiful, tasty and locally produced, head directly to your neighborhood Down to Earth Market this weekend and pick up a dozen or two. Healthier Chickens The vast majority of eggs produced in the United States, around 88.7%, come from battery farms where large numbers of chickens are kept in very small cages or crowded conditions. Egg-laying hens kept in these facilities are denied access to the outdoors and are so tightly crammed together that they are unable to stretch their wings, scratch, peck or engage in other natural chicken-y behaviors. Not only are these unhealthy conditions for the hens, but they also provide an ideal breeding ground for viruses such as the current strain of avian flu that is circulating amongst commercial flocks. The disease spreads easily through contact with other infected birds, so when numerous chickens are confined together in close quarters it allows the virus to proliferate rapidly. It is estimated that over 52 million chickens have been lost to the latest outbreak so far. On the other hand, small, local egg producers, such as the vendors that you’ll find at Down to Earth farmers markets, have been far less impacted by the avian flu outbreak. Their eggs come from humanely treated, free-range, pastured hens which means the birds are raised in small flocks and given room to exercise and engage in natural behaviors while spending time foraging outdoors. Tastier Eggs It only makes sense that healthy, happy hens will produce tastier, healthier eggs. If you’ve ever compared the taste of a battery-farmed egg to that of a pastured egg, you know there is a world of difference between the two! Pastured eggs have a richer, “eggier” flavor and a creamier texture. They even look different as the yolks of pastured eggs are typically a dark, vibrant orange versus the pale-yellow yolks of commercially raised eggs. Whereas battery-farmed hens are confined indoors and fed a diet of commercial chicken feed, pastured hens are free to forage in the sunshine while dining on plants, insects and other biologically appropriate foods. The proof is in the pudding, as the saying goes, and studies have shown that eggs from pasture-raised hens contain significantly higher amounts of vitamins A, D, E, beta-carotene, and long-chain omega-3 fats than those from conventionally raised hens. In addition to the extra nutrients, eggs from small, local farms are typically fresher because they are produced in small batches and sold quickly, rather than sitting on long haul trucks and grocery store shelves for weeks. Winter Production Chickens require twelve to fourteen hours of daylight to keep producing eggs, so natural egg production drops off precipitously during the winter. Free-range, pasture-raised hens spend time outdoors when weather permits during winter daylight hours, which is supplemented by barn lighting to provide them with adequate production exposure. In contrast, battery farms keep their giant flocks under artificial lighting throughout the year in order to maintain consistent egg production at commercially optimal levels. This constant, intensive energy expenditure is one of the reasons these factory farms have an oversized environmental footprint. Plus, the soaring price of electricity is in turn fueling the higher cost of their end product, which is currently on par with that of specialty eggs. So, if you’re looking to make the switch from conventionally raised eggs to deliciously fresh and tasty farmers market eggs, now is a most eggcellent time to do so! And, if you don’t want to put all your eggs in one basket, keep a look out for ostrich, quail and duck eggs which you can sometimes find being sold in our farmers markets too.

Decided instead of putting her back on the Bute-Less, for now I’m going to spend more money on getting the pelleted versions of her supplements again (vitamin e, magnesium, and MSM). The other issue we’ve been dealing with since moving to the new barn is she has starting sifting her grain, which means she’s wasting a lot of her supplements.
Took Sydney off of Bute-Less because I thought we might go to some USDF shows this year, and then they announced regionals for my zone are going to be 6-7 hours away. So, that’s not happening this year. I’m debating putting her back on. When I initially put her on she was doing pretty poorly with her symptoms, and it seemed to perk her up almost immediately. New barn she overall seems to be doing so much better with her symptoms despite eating more grass overall. Now she’s off of it, and other that one day that she was wanting to park out I haven’t noticed a huge difference between her being on and being off. 🤔 But I know she does so much better being on when she is feeling symptomatic….

Look at her cute little droopy lip. She seemed so happy and content this ride despite having some Lyme symptoms. From now on, I think she needs to be treated as if she is immune compromised and permanently kept on probiotics and either E/Se/Mag, or a herbal supplement like the Jing Tang’s.
I had a new vet out to see her last time time, but she didn’t really offer any unique insight. In fact, it was my idea to give her the dog vaccine and do a longer course of minocyline. Why Amba has been treated by 2 different vets at each of the 2 barns specifically for Lyme and no one mentioned that or strengthening her immune system (unless you count her chiropractor who mentioned the Jing Tang’s) I don’t know. This last vet pisssd me off and will never be coming back because instead of sending her probiotics and minocycline as discussed when the blood results came back and then confirmed in an email, she sent more Jing tang’s and insulin wise. When I tried to return them and get the right medications, she admitted her mistake but said, “I’m sorry, we can give you a refund on the insulin wise but not the Jing Tang’s because that’s a specialty product.” I then contacted the secretary and told her I was not ok with that, and that I had it in writing that these were not the medications that were supposed to be sent, but she repeated the same thing. So I called my credit card company and told them not to accept the charge. Haven’t heard back from the vet since.
So I made a post in a local horse fb group asking for vet recommendations specifically for vets with experience with tough or persistent neuro cases. Because if Amba keeps getting Lyme this often her symptoms will likely not go away fully one day. She will likely need to get intravenous tetracycline for a month if it comes back again, which may involve sending her to a clinic because I don’t think D will be comfortable having Rosa do it. I would really like to boost her immune system so I can try and avoid that outcome, and have plans to give her the vaccine, probiotics, and either certain vitamins or a herbal supplement, but I need to try and find a vet to give guidance on what brands/combinations of these things will work best.

I haven't updated on The Goob in a while- thing have gotten kind of busy for me (I got a new full time job and I recently started a second part time job since everything now costs so much all the time).
Prince had lost weight over the winter, and finally had to be put on senior feed as well as a vitamine E and Selenium suppliement since her lost some muscle too- he's now back up to a good healthy weight and looks fantastic!! He's also feeling a lot better too! The barn I board at told me he actually CANTERED to prevent the gator from getring in front of him the other day! He hasn't cantered in a long time. It gives me hope that I may be able to get him back to light riding someday; we're going to take things slow for now though, I was able to find a surcingle in his size and plan on doing some ground driving to start. I'm looking forward to working him this summer!
This week though, he got a much needed bath and his mane braided since I was feeling fancy.

Paramedic AU Masterlist
A Higher Epsilon (ao3) - deadto27 steve/bucky E, 91k
Summary: Bucky has always wanted a dog. Now finally he has one and it’s everything he wanted and more. It opens up his life in ways he never expected. He especially didn’t expect to meet Steve at the dog park. He didn’t expect they’d become friends. He really didn’t expect that they’d be dating. Unfortunately nobody’s clued Bucky in to that last part.
-----
He feels frozen in panic. It’s their second day together and he’s lost her. He’s lost his dog.
He’s spiralling until suddenly there’s a little yip noise and Bucky snaps his head up to see his dog in front of him, in the arms of someone else.
“Ohmygod,” he hisses out in pure relief, breathing hard. He doesn’t think he’s ever been so relieved in all his life.
“Is this your dog?” the owner of the arms asks.
Angel in an Ambulance (ao3) - deucalionsvision steve/bucky T, 1k
Summary: Bucky twists his ankle while drunk, and his flirting greatly impedes the hot paramedic's ability to examine him. Said paramedic doesn't really mind.
Just A Flesh Wound (ao3) - thefatedthoughtofyou sam/bucky G, 3k
Summary: Bucky is just trying to make some mac and cheese when Clint accidentally shoots him in the leg. Sam is the paramedic that shows up to help. Bucky is a flirt even when he's dying, Sam just can't resist his charms, or the way he helps a hurt little girl in need.
(Not A) Christmas Angel (ao3) - heartsdesire456 steve/bucky G, 1k
Summary: Steve really thought he could get a Christmas tree up a five story walk-up.
Not Like I'm Counting the Days (ao3) - yammz sam/bucky, kate/america E, 13k
Summary: Sam takes a deep breath, then nods, and Bucky feels like he just stumbled upon the combination for a lock that he hadn’t known was there. Sam nods as though he’s making the decision right then and there that this is happening, that they’re actually going to hook up instead of just talking about it. Maybe he is actually making that decision right then. He looks Bucky in the eyes. “Tomorrow, I’m being named Captain America.”
(The one where Bucky starts casually dating Captain America)
not shy of a spark (ao3) - burning_brighter art (burning_brighter), cable-knit-sweater (cable_knit_sweater) steve/bucky, wanda/sam E, 5k
Nurse Rogers (ao3) - Bellakitse M, 6k
Summary: He’s turning the corner headed back to the ambulance bay where Clint is waiting for him in the truck when he rams into this tiny figure in blue scrubs pants and a white undershirt, the kid is cute, blond and blue-eyed, barely reaching Bucky’s shoulder and so slim that if Bucky didn’t have amazing reflexes and reached for him in time the kid would be on the ground from their encounter.
- Where Bucky is a cocky paramedic and Steve is a tiny nurse.
Octopuses (Not Octopi) (ao3) - orphan_account clint/phil, bucky/natasha T, 3k
Summary: “You can’t possibly be in love with him,” Natasha said, deadpan, her expression not exactly disbelief, as that would imply a sort of possibility that there was any way one could believe this.
“Don’t mock my pain!” Clint whined, slightly muffled by the pillow he had pressed his face into.
“The only thing you know about him is that he doodles cute octopi,” Natasha reiterated, looking at Clint in a way that was a close to gaping as she could get.
“I know!” Clint moaned. “Also, the correct plural is octopuses, not octopi.”
Patching You Up (ao3) - Finely Honed (jaqen_hgar) bucky/tony T, 2k
Summary: It had seemed safe enough making an offhand remark to Clint about the “hot detective” with the messy brown hair, and puppy dog eyes. Looking back, he realized that it’d been the first time in five years of working with Clint that he’d said anything about anyone being attractive, so really, it was his own fault. Clint had scented blood in the water, and that was that.
patient's name? (ao3) - peterbparker steve/bucky T, 5k
Summary: Steven Grant Rogers realised he was head over heels, deeply, irreversibly, completely and utterly in love with James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes their second year into being partnered together in the New York ambulance force (Paramedic AU)
Where the Need is Greatest (ao3) - Niitza T, 19k
Summary: In which Steve Rogers takes one look at the history of American military interventions since the end of World War II and nopes straight out of it, follows in his Ma's footsteps to become a paramedic, joins Doctors Without Borders, gets sent on an unsanctioned humanitarian mission to Syria, and somehow still ends up being a determining factor in Hydra's downfall - all of this without throwing a single punch.
Somehow, he's okay with it.
with the sun shining down over me and you (ao3) - chthonicheart steve/bucky T, 3k
Summary: “From the sounds of it, he probably has a concussion. It’d be safest for everyone if we brought him in just so the docs could get a better look at ‘im.”
“No,” Steve croaks. “‘M fine. Fit as a whistle.”

Rice
What are the differences between white, brown, black, and red rice, and which is healthier?
kinds of rice and their benefits The healthiest types of rice include brown, red, and black rice. They include more antioxidants, fiber, protein, and other vitamins and minerals than white rice. Because white rice is so processed, it lacks important nutrients and does not fill you up as other types of rice do. This is white rice's biggest drawback. No matter what kind of rice you select, be mindful of the serving size. Eating too much of anything is not a healthy idea, and rice is usually high in calories.
White Rice is the most popular rice in Indian households. White rice is the most processed of all the rice varieties. The husk, bran, and germ have been removed to extend the shelf life after packaging. However, extensive processing removes the essential nutrients from this food grain. In comparison to other types of rice, it contains less protein, antioxidants, and other essential nutrients such as thiamine and B vitamins. White rice is also less filling due to its low fiber content. White rice has 68 calories and 14.8 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams. It only has a moderate amount of calcium and folate.
Brown Rice, as opposed to white rice, contains both the bran layer and the germ. Only the husk has been removed. As a result, it is far more nutritious than white rice. The flavonoid antioxidants apigenin, quercetin, and luteolin found in the barn play an important role in keeping us healthy and disease-free. Brown rice has the same number of calories and carbohydrates as white rice. Only they have more fiber and protein, making them a healthier option than white rice. This rice promotes fullness and regulates blood sugar and insulin levels. Furthermore, it is high in magnesium.
Red Rice The antioxidant anthocyanin is responsible for the rich colors of this rice variety. Red rice, like brown rice, is high in fiber. It also contains a significant amount of iron, which can help to reduce inflammation and lower blood pressure. This type of rice is especially beneficial for those trying to lose weight because it takes longer to digest, keeping you fuller and preventing you from snacking on unhealthy foods. Red rice contains 455 calories per 100 grams, but due to its nutrient content, this variety of rice is increasingly being included in people's diets. Flavonoids such as anthocyanins, apigenin, myricetin, and quercetin are abundant in red rice. It can help the body prevent cancer cell growth and lower the risk of heart disease and diabetes
.Black Rice and forbidden rice are other names for black rice. The presence of phytochemicals in the bran gives this variety of rice its distinct color. This rice is high in protein, fiber, and Vitamin E antioxidants. According to research, black rice contains the most antioxidants of any rice variety and has a low glycemic index. Antioxidants protect cells from free radical damage, which causes chronic diseases such as certain cancers and mental decline. Even though 100 grams of black rice contain 335 calories, it is considered excellent for those attempting to lose weight and control their blood sugar levels.
Which choice is the healthiest one?
The healthiest types of rice include brown, red, and black rice.

An early morning at the barn today to switch out blankets. I had given Mary a few days off of the blanket because it was staying pretty warm during the day, but with storms moving in for the rest of the week, she needed her sheet back on. She is so done with winter, she's absolutely cranky with having to exist in it lol. I try and make a point of giving her warm soaked alfalfa every time I change out her blankets, 1) to increase her water and vitamin E intake and 2) to help build positive associations with the blanket. If you’ve been here awhile, you know blanket use to be a huge trigger for aggressive behavior from her. The bucket keeps her mouth busy and keeps her happy, so in turn I’m pretty happy that I can now safely put her blankets on and off at liberty without having to resort to using any punishment. I can also safely change her blankets in the pasture by just using the normal click and treat when I don’t have time/ability to soak pellets, we’ve worked on it enough to have reached that point, but she definitely is a happier camper when she’s able to free feed on the pellets while I change them.
I actually ended up multi-tasking at the barn and did my daily yoga in the barn aisle while she ate. Since it was so early, I was the only one there, and I would not have had enough time to feed her and then go home and do my yoga and still make it in time for my work meeting. So I threw down her cooler onto the ground for a make shift mat, and ran through that days sequence with my boots on lol.

frequent (emergency room) flyer | AU-gust Day 6: Hospital AU
AU-gust masterlist
i wrote this a while back, and a couple of people seemed interested in more, so here is another piece in that AU. tagging @m-e-i-c-h-a-n, @severelytinyeagle and @warmachinesocks (who was the original prompter) and im sorry if you asked for a continuation and didn’t get tagged. note: this can be read a stand-alone fic (but reading the original ficlet will help)
I’m begging you, please help me out here and get me something edible, I’m so tired of hospital food (from this prompt list)
//
After his first visit, Bucky isn't expecting to see Tony again. Despite how garish the burns had looked on his arms, the actual injury itself had thankfully not been that bad - and Tony only needed to come in one more time for a check in, just to make sure everything was healing well. It was a short visit, nothing to write home about and Bucky privately wished that the injuries had been a bit more severe.
Not too severe, because he didn't want Tony hurting himself, but severe enough that it warranted a couple more visits. Of course he kept that particular inclination to himself, because it wasn't normal to want your crush to be hurt and it was unbecoming for a doctor to want an injured patient, but it was there - in the back of his mind.
When Steve pages him a month later and tells him that he's got a repeat customer, and he ducks into A&E to see a familiar mop of hair; he's secretly pleased.
"What are we looking at?" he asks Steve, holding his hand out for the chart. Steve passes it over with a grim face, "His roommate brought him in. He was unconscious. Apparently he's been locked up in his lab for the past week, and when his roommate went to check on it - he was slumped against his desk. We managed to get him conscious again, and it looks like a case of a lack of food and drink."
Instantly, Bucky regrets the way he felt when he first found out that Tony was back in A&E. He nods sharply at Steve, and pulls back the curtain to see a pale Tony on the bed, and a black kid who can't be more than a few years older than Tony standing near the side of the bed.
"Bucky!" he croaks when he looks up, lips stretching out into a wide smile. He pulls at the black kid's sweater, "Rhodey look - it’s Bucky!"
"I can see that Tones," Rhodey says in a wry tone, and holds his hand out for Bucky to shake. "James Rhodes, but this punk likes to call me Rhodey."
"Doctor James Barnes," he says back, "also cursed with a bestfriend who gives out terrible nicknames. You must be James the original."
Tony gives him an indecipherable look, "You remembered."
Bucky can't tell him that he's played the weekend that Tony was in the hospital in his mind on repeat, revisiting the memories like they’re treasure, so instead he clears his throat and asks, "So what brings you to my neck of the woods this time?"
Tony opens his mouth to reply, but Rhodey beats him, "He doesn't know how to eat. Don't even start with me Tones you know it's true. Doctor," he turns to Bucky with pleading eyes, "maybe you can knock some sense into him. Explain to him that human beings need sustenance three times a day and they can't survive on coffee and ramen."
Bucky frowns, "You've only been having ramen and coffee? Tony you need vitamins, you need protein. While it's possible that you just fainted because of hunger, I'm going to keep you around for a couple of days. Run some tests to make sure you haven't given yourself scurvy."
His lips twist into a pout, and Bucky has to tamp down the urge to lean down and kiss it off his face. "This is all your fault," he glares at Rhodey mulishly, "I'm stuck in a hospital instead of at my lab like I should be. All you had to do was splash some water on me and this whole thing could've been avoided."
"I did, you didn't wake up" Rhodey says, obviously not rising to Tony's bait. He oddly reminds Bucky of himself, back when Steve wasn't a hunkering man made of muscles and Bucky had to wrestle his four foot ass in bed because he couldn't go five steps without dissolving into a coughing fit. "Besides, what're you complaining about? Now you've got all this free time to ogle at the doctor you've been talking my ear off about for a month."
Tony's cheeks pink, and Bucky excuses himself before he does something he's going to regret.
(Like find out exactly what Tony's been saying about him to his bestfriend)
/
Thankfully, Tony doesn't seem to have any serious illnesses apart from a mild case of dehydration and malnutrition; but Bucky keeps him under observation to be sure just in case. He's heard horror stories of students cracking under the pressure at MIT and almost starving themselves to death, and he's got a special interest in making sure that Tony doesn't become one of those horror stories.
Besides, he's fairly certain that Tony can afford the medical bills.
The downside of Tony not being at high risk of death is that Bucky can't justify visiting him often. So he does the next best thing, he assigns Steve to Tony. It's standard hospital procedure to have a nurse dedicated to their VIP patients, and it soothes something inside Bucky to know that Stevie is looking out for him.
What he fails to take into account, is the fact that Steve and Tony are remarkably similar people, and are therefore bound to clash.
"I can't take it anymore!" Steve bursts into his office, interrupting what was promising to be an extremely rewarding fifteen minutes of sleep at his desk, "He's so - UGH!"
Steve tugs at his hair, and Bucky gestures at the couch in his office, wincing when Steve slumps against it face-first.
"Use your big boy words Stevie," he says in what he hopes is a calming tone, "Who's got you so worked out?"
"Your ickle Tony," Steve props his head up and says in a scathing voice, "Is the most infuriating person I have ever had the misfortune of meeting. It's like he wants to die. I don't know what you see in him Buck, honest to god, he drives me crazy."
"What did he do?"
"He refuses to eat!" Steve moans, but when he notices the expression on Bucky's face he backtracks a little, "He eats, but like ridiculously small amounts. His tray is never empty, and one time - I even caught him shovelling food under his plate to make it look like he'd eaten it. The kid is going to kill himself if he goes on like this."
Bucky wants to go over there right now, but he's got patients that can't wait. "I'll visit him after my rounds today," he promises, "find out what's going on."
When he enters the suite that they've put Tony in, he's in the middle of a very heated conversation on his phone. His skin is no longer pale, flushed full with colour, but he's still too skinny for Bucky's comfort.
"No Pep I -" he looks over when the door slides open, and his face transforms into a smile, "Bucky! Pep, let me call you right back."
Whoever it is on the other line is clearly not happy about Tony cutting the line on them because he hears the beginning of what sounds like yelling - but Tony ends the call before they can get anywhere. He cocks his head and bats his eyes at Bucky, "What can I do for my favourite doctor?'
"I'm your only doctor Tony," Bucky says with a chuckle, "Nobody else is willing to treat you." It isn't a lie, but it isn't the complete truth either. Bucky is Tony's only doctor, but only because he put dibs on any future Tony related visits. So it wasn't that nobody else was willing to treat Tony, it was more that Bucky wasn't willing to let anyone else treat Tony.
"So, what's this I hear about you not eating food? Keeping you under observation for malnutrition is counter-productive if you're not eating Tony." Tony frowns at that, his face twisting like he's had something sour.
He hears out and clasps Bucky's hands, looking up at him with wide eyes, "You have to help me. You gotta get me out of here. They keep trying to make me eat hospital food," he says 'hospital food' in a hushed tone, like he's worried Stevie is going to jump out with a tray and shove it down his throat.
(Knowing Stevie, it was completely possible)
"Tony," he says gently, "You have to eat. It's for your own good. You're dangerously low on vitamins and protein, and if we don't get that stuff in your system you could be running the risk of serious illness. Then you'll be shackled to a hospital room for the rest of your life, with no choice but to eat hospital food."
Tony contemplates that for a second, brows furrowing in concentration. "Okay, how about a compromise? I'll eat hospital food, two times out of the day, if you smuggle me in a cheeseburger for lunch."
"How about this? You eat hospital food all times of the day, and I'll buy you a cheeseburger when we discharge you?"
"You mean like a date?" Bucky suddenly becomes intimately aware that Tony is still holding his hand, "You asking me out on a date Doc?"
Bucky wants to say no, he knows that he's supposed to say no, but what comes out is, "Not yet."
Tony's face twists at that, before smoothening out in comprehension, "It's because I'm your patient isn't it. There's rules about this stuff, ethics or whatever."
"I could lose my license over it," Bucky admits, "not to mention that you're still in college."
"I'm a master's student," Tony says breezily, "I'm older than I look. I turn 22 this May. So how long?" Bucky makes a quizzical noise at him and he explains, "How long until it's okay for you to date a patient?"
"6 months," Bucky rubs the back of his neck with his free hand, "There's a bit of debate on it, but six months is pretty standard."
Tony nods, "I can do six months. I can wait six months."
"You have to stay out of the hospital for six months," Bucky says weakly, "No malnourishment, no lab accidents, you can't even get a scrape on your elbow, otherwise I could get written up."
"I can do that," Tony says confidently, and Bucky knows that he should talk him out of it, but he smiles toothily at Bucky, and he's gone, "I can wait six months for you. Can you?"
"Six months," Bucky says back, and it feels like a promise.
