So for those of you that remember, I opened my requests a little while ago. And while I haven't had any requests or have written a lot since, I decided to update my requests since I made that posts ages ago and I'm adding some new people. As I said in my previous post, I'm open to write about pretty much anything. Fluff, smut, angst, etc. Heres the people I'll be writing for:

Sam Winchester (Supernatural)
Jack Kline (Supernatural)

CYPRESS — Although the Cy Woods Wildcats clenched a playoff berth Saturday, it was Cy Lakes’s high scoring basketball football game that caught attention around the state as the Spartans fell to Tomball Memorial, 73-70.
During Cy Ranch’s off week, Cy Woods more than doubled Cy Springs’ scoring, 31-15, to guarantee the Wildcats a place in the Texas high school football playoffs that begin in four weeks.
Cy Park defeated Bryan, 34-24 to move up to 2-3 in league play — only one game behind Cy Lakes.
CFISD’s Bridgeland High School skunked Langham Creek, 29-0, in Week 8 action.
Scheduled to play in Week 9 are:
Friday night, all games at 7 p.m.
Cy Springs at Bryan
Cy Lakes vs. Langham Creek
Cy Park at Tomball Memorial
Saturday, 1 p.m. kickoff
Cy Ranch vs. Cy Woods
The Bears have their bye game this week.

A win this Saturday by the #MWT Mustangs over Cy Woods has the potential to throw a monkey wrench into the District 14-6A championship. Combined with a Tomball Memorial victory, there would be a potential three-way tie at 5-1.
Given that a Cy Ranch victory would put leverage in the Mustangs’ favor, a potential Week 11 rematch for the 14-6A title would once again be between the Mustangs and Tomball Memorial.
Shop for Cypress football action photos here (links to Live Wild Photography).
However, a Cy Woods victory would cut short the rest of the district oppositions’ hopes for a shot at the title, as the Wildcats are off the following week and then finish the regular season against the currently 1-6 Bryan Vikings.

When Anthony crossed the finish line, it was hard to tell among the pack of boys what place he finished — 10th or 11th. One of our girls captured the emotional moment when we received the official word that he made Regionals. #RunWithYourHeart @CFISDCyLakes @franklincartag pic.twitter.com/rVZb2WAOwe

So stop me if I’m getting too far ahead of myself, but much like the musicians who owe their success to certain defining moments, genres or locations, as a freelance music journalist for hire…. I have to give it up to NYC. High fives and fist bumps all around you guys. And that is by no means any offense to areas like Ohio or St Louis who have been extremely generous to me as well, but my first…

Dylan Sneed - Texodus

Lost And Found
Food for thought: The subtitle of this blog reads "an honest document of a faith journey to the big apple." I wouldn't be honest with you if I left out the difficult parts. And let's face it, any good story has conflict. A bed of roses just isn't that interesting. I teach at a music school on Long Island. After one day of lessons I boarded the Long Island Railroad and headed back to the city. On the way I called a friend in South Carolina. It had been a while since we had talked, and it was good to reconnect. Both of us find ourselves in periods of great transition, and it was helpful and encouraging to listen to one another. The conversation was engrossing, and when my stop came up, I grabbed my backpack and headed off the train into the station on my way to the subway. After one transfer I found myself on the G train headed toward Brooklyn. My mind was still on the conversation that had just ended, and a I felt a fullness, a satisfaction like the kind following a good meal. My stop was coming, so I gathered my bag and reached for my guitar. My guitar. It wasn't there. In an instant, I realized the horrible truth. I had left it on the luggage rack above my seat on the train from Long Island. I frantically reached for my phone to look up a number to call, but I was too far underground. No cell service. I could do nothing but sit and wait for my train to arrive at my stop. I prayed silently. I breathed deliberately. The train came to a stop, and I exited to the street, heading to my sister's apartment where I was staying at the time. I started to look up a number on my phone, but the ice on the ground forced me to focus more on walking than performing a Google search. More waiting. Now outside, I prayed out loud. I told God I knew He knew where my guitar was, and that He could return it to me. I also knew it was my mistake alone. Nobody forced my hand. I was probably just a little tired and distracted. Engrossed in a conversation. I didn't panic, though I walked with purpose toward my sister's apartment. I came inside, and she was there. She asked me how my day went, and I calmly told her I had left my guitar on the train, and I needed to call the MTA. I talked to a nice man in the lost and found department, filed a report, and sat down, letting myself take it all in. The guitar I left on the Long Island Railroad is an early 90's Gibson Les Paul Standard with a tobacco sunburst finish. It's worth a little over $2,000. I bought it new when I was 16 from a music store in San Antonio. I saved up for quite a while to buy that thing. I played it on my last record. I brought it to Germany. It's the guitar I've owned the longest, and I love it. According to the MTA site, lost property can take up to 5-7 business days to return to the headquarters at Penn Station. I left the guitar on the train two weeks ago, three days after a great rehearsal with a Brooklyn-based Americana rock band that I recently joined. The prospect of finding my guitar seems less and less likely with each passing day. There's a good chance it could be gone. And yet, I have peace. I can't explain it. By all accounts I should be suffering from a major freak out right now. I don't know how I will replace this guitar if it is in fact lost for good. And playing the guitar is one of my most marketable skills, a way for me to earn income, pay rent, and generally survive. Plus, it has tremendous sentimental value. But it's also just a guitar. There are lots of guitars in the world, probably many of them better than the one I left on that train. And I still have two acoustics to play. Not to mention friends who will lend me an extra guitar if I need it, and a school that is filled with instruments I can use to teach my students. I confess, I was embarrassed at first to share this story with you. I think I wanted every post to be about something happy. But I feel different now. I feel this is a hugely important part of my story. It's a great loss. And like I said, I have no idea if I'll ever see the guitar again, or how long it would take to replace it. But perhaps this is not for me to know. Perhaps this is a time for me to learn even more about the process. The process of the lost being found. I wake up some days here and wonder what the hell I'm doing. I try to add it all up, and it just doesn't. Except that it does. I believe God told me to come. I believe at some point that word shifted from a suggestion to a command. This process became less about taking a chance and more about obeying. So here I am. Seemingly lost in the craziest city in America. But here I am also found. I pray so much. I am thankful for so much. Each step forward, each minute victory is cause for celebration. I marvel at the goodness of God on a daily basis. I wade in His love for me. And yes, I lost a guitar. At least for now. I lost a nice, expensive guitar that I love. And I don't know how to get it back or to replace it, if it is in fact gone. But I believe part of my inheritance is a worry-free life. It's something I've been learning to do for years now. There are too many stories of God's faithfulness and provision to list here. Too many examples for me to see my current situation as some insurmountable obstacle. I think I wanted to delay the telling of this story until I found the guitar again. But that may never happen. And I want you, if you're following along, to see the whole process, not just the victories. There will be losses. There will be casualties. It's a war out there. I, just like you, am smack dab in the middle of a process. Where exactly, I don't know. But I know I can choose to panic or to trust. To lean on my own understanding, or on the wisdom that confounds the wise. Right now I am trying to choose the latter. I believe it's there that I will find and be found. I told my last guitar teacher about losing the guitar, but also trusting that God knew where it was and could get it back to me. His response was, "I am not sure The Lord could do anything about the guitar, it being a big city and all." I laughed and laughed. His sense of humor still surprises me. ----- If you look for it, you can see the veiled beauty of this place beneath the shroud of a cruel winter. The elements themselves can be breathtaking: a powder blanket of fresh snow, glistening raindrops on the night street, icicle spires clinging to the ceiling of a subway platform. But as in people, the true beauty lies beneath. Cobblestone streets, rows of brownstones, the gritty determination of a city of dreamers. I can't wait for spring. This week's news: This week I finished my runner job for a UK-based photography company at Fashion Week. I became familiar with the west side of Manhattan, observed a culture that I know next to nothing about, and ate a lot of $1 pizza slices. I also got a call for another job interview for a position at a community center in The Bronx, which is great news. Also, I looked at an apartment in a good neighborhood of Brooklyn which is apparently priced to move. Depending on what happens in the next few days, I should have some news in that department for you by my next post. If you're into praying, I would love prayers for my guitar--that I would find it or somehow find an even better one. My sublease is up at the end of the month, so I also have to find a new place to live. Thank you so much for reading. I'll talk to you next week. Dylan

Naked Song 2013: Broken Twin, Dylan Sneed & Jonathan Jeremiah

Het pianogeluid is soms wat mistroostig en met teksten als ‘How can you lose, something you choose, to not have’ gaat de zangeres regelmatig de diepte in.
Met enkel ‘Thank you for your patience, thank you for coming’ kom je er niet.

Cijfer: 6,5

Day 7: In-The-Round
This tour, while short, has been a good sampling of different types of shows that an independent solo songwriter might play. As Sara and I made the very short trip to Annapolis on Day 7, I geared up for the gig that evening: an event called 12 Voices.
Tumblr media
David Glaser, an Annapolis-based songwriter, hosts this monthly concert series at 49 West, a great coffee shop and restaurant in downtown Annapolis. Every month David brings in a featured artist to share his or her tunes. He's hosted songwriters from all over North America. Every show also includes a "cameo" artist, which in this case was me. David plays a few tunes to kick off, then introduces the cameo, then the featured artist plays. We take a break, then reconvene to perform an in-the-round set where we're all on stage together, accompanying each other, impromptu style.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The beauty of a gig like this is in its empathetic nature. It's a show for songwriters, hosted by a songwriter. David uses his extensive knowledge of the touring life to cater to the needs of his fellow performers. He, unlike many hosts, knows exactly what we're looking for in a show. This is not a knock on other venues, but more of a praise for folks like David. He does all that he can to create an intimate, comfortable environment that's conducive to a human connection.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
David's favorite part of the evening is the in-the-round set, when all three performers sit on stage together and share stories and songs. Spontaneous song circles like this happen all the time at conferences and festivals like Folk Alliance and the Kerrville Folk Festival. After being a part of many of them, David wanted to bring some of their improvised magic to a concert setting. I'm not sure if the results are more fun for the performers or the audience, but it seemed Monday night like both parties were enjoying the moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These times wake up the guitar nerd in me. David is a very good guitarist and mandolin player as well, so it was great fun to play off each other. When you go on tour you end up playing the same 10-15 tunes every night, so it's refreshing to be thrown into a situation where you're playing along with a song you've probably never heard before. It's almost as if you upped the stakes a bit. Living a little more dangerously. And when everything works out, it's that much more exciting when you strum the final chord. I want to thank David for facilitating a great event in his hometown. Check out his music here. Also, please check out the featured artist from this show. Her name is Ellis, and she's originally from Texas, now living in Minnesota. Her songs, even the sad ones, are some of the most uplifting you can find. I dare you to see her live and not smile. It's impossible. Thanks for following, Dylan

CYPRESS — The Cypress area was rocked by the murder of Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal Friday afternoon, near Highway 6 and West Road. On top of the many vigils that have sprung up in the Cypress community, tributes were made during our Texas high school football games for Dhaliwal, and recognition of our first responders were also made.
The funeral ceremony for the deputy is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 2 at the Berry Center. Sikh religious ceremony at 10:30 a.m., law enforcement ceremony at 11:30. Public welcome at both, space permitting, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Following last week’s 20-7 stomping of the once unbeaten Bears from Bridgeland High School, the District 14-6A leader is Cy Woods’ Wildcats team. The result means that no league team will be able to finish the season with a perfect 10-0 record. So far, only the Bears and Tomball Memorial have one loss apiece.
Cy Woods (3-2 overall) leads the district with a 3-0 league record, which created another three-way tie, albeit for second place.
Tied up at 2-1 are the Bears, Cy Lakes and Cy Ranch. Regarding tie-breakers, the Bears are over the Mustangs, but the Mustangs are over Cy Lakes’ Spartans. The Bears don’t meet Cy Lakes until Week 10’s Thursday night Halloween game at Cy-Fair FCU Stadium.

With Cy Woods, the Bears, Cy Ranch and Cy Lakes holding the four playoff spots, the remaining five teams of the district have only three league wins spread amongst them.
Cy Park earned its first varsity win over Cy Springs, 24-10, last Saturday night. Langham Creek edged Bryan, 35-31.
The Mustangs had a glorious come from behind victory over Cy Lake, 34-31, Thursday evening. Cy Lakes had a solid first half performance, but Cy Ranch scored 21 unanswered points in the second half, to snatch the victory.

Made For This
Food for thought: "Grand Central" by Billy Collins The city orbits around eight million centers of the universe and turns around the golden clock at the still point of this place. Lift up your eyes from the moving hive and you will see time circling under a vault of stars and know just when and where you are. Since 2006 I've been on the road at least as much or more than I've been home. Every choice we make has inherent sacrifice, and my choice to live this lifestyle has been no different. There is always a cost. Strained relations, weariness, and general discombobulation. But there are also benefits. Greater connectedness, greater appreciation for the now, and a broader perspective. I have an embarrassing memory from my first national tour. I played my way out of Texas via Lubbock, then I camped in Palo Duro Canyon, just outside of Amarillo. Next came New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, and up into the Midwest. Eventually I found myself sitting in a bar in Springfield, Illinois. I was there as the feature act of an open mic night. I played my set, then took in songs from the other performers. A tall, nice-looking guy named Micah took the stage and played Oasis' "Wonderwall," but in the style of Ryan Adams from Love Is Hell. Sure, it was a cover of a cover, but Micah delivered it well. He exhibited what I call "the vacuum effect," when all the air seems to be sucked from the room. It's an almost uncomfortable level of quiet, like outer space. This is when your hair stands up on end, when not just your hearing, but all senses seem to become heightened, like the fight-or-flight response. Micah finished the tune, and the small crowd erupted with woos, whistles, and clapping hands. I looked around at the cheering faces, the friends celebrating a magic moment orchestrated by their hometown hero, and I actually heard this thought going through my head: Man, these people are having a great time, and they're not even in Texas! I immediately caught the thought, and sort of mentally slapped myself on the wrist for thinking it, but it was too late. The damage was done. I was outed, at least to myself, as just some redneck bigot from Texas. It was troubling. I carried the shock of my revelation with me for the next several weeks as I made my way to the east coast and later down through the Deep South. How could I have believed this, even on a subconscious level? How could I have been so narrow-minded, so Tex-centric? I didn't have a great answer, and I still don't--other than I really needed to get out of town. I don't think it has so much to do with the fact that I grew up in Texas. Or even that I grew up in Austin. I think it had everything to do with the fact that I was the center of my own universe, just like in Billy Collins' poem above. For the remaining miles of the tour I mulled this over repeatedly in my head. And with each positive experience in another previously unknown town, my horizon grew, while I myself shrank. I felt increasingly smaller, part of a unimaginably vast world of people with stories as varied as the leaves on the trees zooming by my car window. I returned from that tour with a new worldview and a new addiction. I couldn't wait to travel again. To meet up with old friends and discover new ones. I kept the wheels turning solid for about six years, wearing out a Toyota 4-Runner (which, trust me, is no easy task) and racking up frequent flyer miles. I longed for my world to keep getting bigger. I longed to be rid of this kind of small thinking. During a time of doubt and insecurity leading up to my recent move up the east coast, I pleaded with God to give me more details of my journey. What was the purpose? What was I supposed to do? How was I supposed to do it? I desperately wanted answers. What I got went something like this: You were made to do this. Even without Him explicitly explaining what "this" was, I felt like once I heard this promise I breathed a little easier. I'd reminisce over the last six or seven years of my life. The grand process that we can perhaps only see when looking in the rearview. Hundreds of thousands of miles in the car alone. Hundreds of nights where I stood by myself on a stage in a room filled with strangers. Austin. Abilene. Dallas. Hartsville. Germany. Falling in love and falling apart. Strangers who become close friends who become strangers again. It seems somewhat obvious to say, but everything up until now has led to this present moment. He has been making me all the while. Making me ready for "this." And I'm learning to love the process of discovering what "this" is. New York is a city full of centers of the universe, but it's not the only place like this. You see it everywhere, obsessive introspection devolving into navel-gazing. Self-centeredness. It's our default. I think part of what "You were made for this" means to me is that He's repeatedly shown me the absurdity of the "Me" cosmology. After all these miles, how could I possibly look at any one place in the world and say, "This is where it's all happening."? New York is not the center of the universe. Neither am I. Neither are you. And thank God for that. Here's to exploring this vast world. Here's to enjoying becoming increasingly smaller. Here's to wonder. Here's to awe. And here's to continuing to be made. This week's news: Since I missed a week, I'll include news from the past two weeks. There's a lot, so I'll be brief. 1) I rehearsed with Barefoot & Bankside, a Brooklyn based alt-country group. My longtime friend and collaborator Jeff Rogers was on drums. This was so much fun! We will play our first show together in June. More on that later. 2) I played at The Little Rock Folk Club in Little Rock, AR to a wonderful crowd of music lovers. I was treated extremely well the entire weekend by Len and Susan, my gracious hosts. I was praying that I would make enough at the gig to afford a sublet in Brooklyn for February. I didn't make enough. I made MORE than enough! Hallelujah! 3) Speaking of that, I moved into my first sublet in Brooklyn. I like my roommates, and it feels great to have a place of my own, even if for only a month. 4) Last but not least, I picked up a very interesting temp job as a runner for two UK photographers who are here for Fashion Week. Basically, I wait outside a show until they finish, they hand me their SD card, and I run it back to a hotel where another one of their team edits and uploads the images to a website so that media outlets can purchase them. Fancy! I just finished my first day of this work, and I'll be on the job until Tuesday. Then it's back to normal life: teaching at a rock and roll school, managing concert series in South Carolina, touring occasionally, and taking steps toward my Pyramids. Thanks for reading, Dylan

Pyramids
In March of last year I took a step. I asked God, "Where are my Pyramids?" This question needs some context. One of my favorite books is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It is a fable about pursuing your purpose. In it, a young Spanish shepherd boy has a recurring dream of a hidden treasure buried near The Great Pyramids of Egypt, and after some personal reflection and counsel from a couple of mysterious characters, he decides to leave Spain and pursue this treasure. I read this book at least once a year, and I always seem to relate my life to that of the main character. I often take stock of my life and wonder which part of the story most closely resembles my own at the moment. Am I on the plains of Andalusia? Amid the bustle of Tangiers? Or deep in the incomprehensibly vast desert? So when I asked God, "Where are my Pyramids?" I knew what I meant, and I believe He did, too. He answered me plainly, "New York." The answer took me by surprise. New York is a singular experience. I've visited this place several times, usually playing music at a club. I always enjoyed myself (I even enjoyed the driving for some twisted reason), but I never pictured myself living here. "Really?" I responded. "Yes." "Is there a timeframe?" "Six months." "You mean, September?" "Look at September." Since March I've taken steps, reached out to friends, continued to pray, and have done my best to follow this direction. I sold and gave away much of my belongings. I put the rest in storage. I'm selling my car. I left a city that I love. I went to Europe twice. And on December 30, 2013 I arrived in New York City, without a job or a place of my own, and not at all sure of what precisely it is that I'm doing. But I have faith. I feel like now is the time for me to reach out. To share this process with you. I will do my best to be open and honest. For the sake of mine and my friends' privacy, I won't include every detail, but I will try to include parts of my story which I feel may encourage some of you to seek out your own Pyramids. I will post something new on this blog every Friday. I have no idea what it will look like. Sometimes it may be a picture or a quote I encounter. Sometimes a story from the week. The purpose is simply to reach out. I have no idea how long I will live in New York. When I asked God, He simply told me, "It's not forever." I'll continue this blog as long as I'm here. I am an artist, a songwriter, a guitarist, a concert promoter, a dreamer, a teacher, a coach, and a believer, among other things. You can always see what else I am up to by clicking the links at the bottom of this page. It's always great to hear from you, so please don't be a stranger. Thanks for reading, Dylan
