Not you popping out of nowhere a year later with a new fic in a fandom I'm going to have to learn about so that I can read it

the way I'm literally so sorry it's not Dark Knight Joker (I've been putting in work on that fic too this year, I promise! it's sitting at 70 pages and if this frenzy of productivity lasts I hope to turn it towards that next, Ledger Joker is somehow always easier for me to write in the winter) but the heart wants what it wants when it wants it, and Jerome Valeska, who is a bigger flirt and a better boyfriend to an OC (somehow, despite the… atrocities) than TDK Joker is what this heart wants right now.

but since I've got you can I give you (and anyone else out of the know) my elevator pitch on Fox's Gotham right quick? There'll be some spoilers but only the kind of spoilers I think you need to hear to decide whether or not you want to watch this show, I prommy. THANKS

ok SO do you ever find yourself wondering when comic book properties got so BORING? do you ask yourself where all the color went? do you find yourself nodding along when your buddy complains that if comic book show writing is gonna be so shitty, it might as well also be fun? look no further than seasons 2-5 of Gotham I promise you will not regret watching seasons 2-5 of Gotham

(season 1 was when they were committed to trying to run it like a straight prequel where Batman and his entire Rogues gallery wouldn't exist for another 20 years, and they also thought they were making a gritty detective show about the GCPD, although nobody was allowed to say fuck and everyone both outside of canon and in it knew that the best place to "detect" criminals in Gotham was inside the GCPD itself, but fortunately they gave that up after one season and switched over to just doing a kidfic version of Batman with a slightly-younger-but-still-weirdly-adult-given-that-they're-beefing-with-a-12-year-old Rogues Gallery)

Gotham, once it hits its stride in season 2, thinks it's a comic book movie from the 90s. Gotham thinks it's a comic book run from the 90s, period. I think almost every major character dies and comes back to life at least once. It's in the same nebulous simultaneously modern and steampunky-old-fashioned time period as A Series of Unfortunate Events and they lean harder into the design with every season that passes. Nobody has any common sense and NOBODY talks like a person. Gotham features the wettest, cuntiest version of Oswald Cobblepot I've ever seen and at one point he gets fake haunted (? it's been a while, I'm not clear on that point anymore).

(They do introduce Jerome in Season 1, though, so you might have to watch the first season after all. sorry.)

At some point they cast Cameron Monaghan as a character they named Jerome Valeska and they're like "Okay, Cam. You are playing a PROTO-JOKER. The real actual Joker isn't around yet and besides we don't have the rights to him, so be subtle, right? Play it cool. Just tasteful hints."

And Cam went "10-4, heard you loud and clear, dw about a thing" and then proceded to blast everyone's nips off when he did what every actor to play the Joker after Heath Ledger has been desperate to do and THEN some-- not only did he play the spiritual successor to Ledger's Joker, but he played the spiritual successor to Nicholson's Joker, he played the spiritual successor to Hamill's Joker, he did his own thing, the shifting nature of the role meant he was able to be like 6 different Jokers at once and every single one of them fucks. Like, I legitimately 100% believe his performance on this not-quite-CW-Batman TV show made a big enough splash that it played a part in the DC execs looking at Jared Leto's Machine Gun Kelly-meets-Spirit Halloween Mallrat Joker cosplay and going "…I think I've had enough of this guy," thank God.

Obviously Jerome is TO ME the heir to the Joker throne with no contest at all, not even a little bit, and besides him, the show is a blast and feels like what Batman felt like to me as a little kid-- like the 90s movies, like the animated series. Is it GOOD? I'm obviously too emotionally compromised to give you a solid answer. I suspect not, but if you're like me (and if you like my writing, then I think you probably are), you don't need good as much as fun and interesting, and Gotham is definitely that. It's streaming on Max, but if for SOME incomprehensible reason you don't want to watch one literal hundred 40-minute episodes of Riverdale-but-make-it-Batman, I am 100% amenable to uploading the 13 episodes that feature Jerome onto my google drive and posting the links here for anyone who wants them lmao. (If it's not obvious, it's the sort of show where you don't really have to watch everything to figure out what's going on-- it's a soap opera, you'll get the gist.)

Whats Trigun about? I keep seeing it on my dash but like i have no idea what it really is besides that its a 3d anime djdmjfmfmfnf (youre free to not answer this, i know i could just look it up its just that fans are usually much better at hyping things up than like wikipedia articles or whatever)

Hallo hallo! Don't worry about it and thank you for letting me get to talk a bit about Trigun + introduce it to you! Also dw, no spoilers shall be dropped

For starters, would like to confirm that I have only watched the OG and Stampede, will read the manga very soon so most of my knowledge will be based of these two only. Although the story and characters give or take are similar or resemble one another <33!

Summary (Trigun Stampede):

The best summary I can give is Vash, also known as "Vash the Stampede" or "The Humanoid Typhoon", is constantly on the run due to a horrendously big bounty on his head, and by bounty I mean 6,000,000.00. The reason for his title as the Humanoid Typhoon is due to his ability to cause chaos and destruction in whatever town he finds himself in, ultimately leading to the deaths of numerous. However, the causation of all these damages is his brother Nai who he is actually running away from.

News reporters Meryl and Roberto stumble on Vash one day and it causes a domino of events to happen throughout the story.

Where to start:

Ultimately there are 3 routes you can take if you want to get into Trigun: the manga, the OG anime or the Stampede anime

Personally, I would recommend to watch Stampede first since amidst it only being 12 episodes, Studio Orange did a FANTASTIC job in the characters, world building and plot (there's also another reason why I recommend stampede first but it's kind of in regards to the narrative so it's a spoiler already TvT), and of course the incredible animation that this series has. You could really sense the passion they had with making it and they spent YEARS so I can't say enough just how deserving Trigun Stampede is to have recognition!!!

Overall thoughts/why I recommend it:

Well aside from Vash genuinely being one of my favorite protagonists-

This series tackles the sheer need for kindness in a world that is cruel. It's a battle of ideals between two brothers and just how far they're willing to go for such. Amidst the silly goofy nature that the series presents itself with, it raises up the point "does anyone truly deserve to die?" and just who exactly deserves to live or die.

Trigun overall brings about the "beauty amidst the hardships" and simply the importance of being kind and I love it for that :'>>

Also, a season 2 is in the works right now and the creators said they'll be able to produce more Trigun for as long as there is support so yeah!

In summary: Get into Trigun <33!!!

What did you think of 13s seasons? Can i watch the new episodes without watching those first? (I will go back and watch 13 at some point though)

yes I think u can definitely watch the new specials without 13s seasons! there's 2 major plotlines that are addressed, but if u don't care about spoilers I don't think watching them out of order is impossible. I liked 13s run!! not as much as 9-11s runs but I still enjoyed it. I think chibnalls a better individual episode writer than a showrunner tbh. I actually rlly hope he comes back and writes more episodes!

Yo that’s a cool hairspray thing. I remember playing games like that at camp, you had to go through a string maze without touching any & they were covered in glowstick goo so they could see if it got on you.  I love Ryan’s scarf & the way he says “You got it” all soft for kate. Gary McAllister, a cop buddy of John Raglan, the detective who worked Johanna’s case. JR was murdered today. Dick Coonan was a hired assassin to kill JB. it was 19 years ago, then JB was killed 12 years ago.  Raglan knows stuff & mcallister ALSO knows stuff & he’s keeping his mouth shut.

Mcallister mentions this guy tho. Vulcan Simmons, runs drug trade, got involved with Raglan.  (remember this guy for future seasons) If he’s this involved, why would mcallister point u to him?

KB: Nobody’s booked him in years. RC: What does that mean? He found religion? JE: He got smart. Started swimming in deeper waters KR, former narc pig: I guess he’s come a long way since washington heights.  KB: Wait what? Washington Heights? KR: Back in the day, Simmons used to run the drug trade in washington heights KB’s mom worked there trying to get drugs off the streets. Esposito looks so tired.  Anti-anxieties! Special Forces background coming into play. Are ppl really that aware of their heartbeats? That is so cool tbh... This kid looks like some random college student selling his own prescription amphetamines (lisdexamfetamine, dextroamphetamine, etc) for profit to college students who need to study.  God, the amphetamines you put on this earth for people to run 40km/h are being used to look at spreadsheets faster. (Also, ryan is not wearing a tie today & esposito has a nice shirt that I would wear.) Pseudophedrine: Pseudoephedrine is a sympathomimetic drug of the phenethylamine and amphetamine chemical classes. It may be used as a nasal/sinus decongestant, as a stimulant, or as a wakefulness-promoting agent in higher doses. Wikipedia Triplicate prescriptions are usually done for drugs not to be sold commonly, stuff that you need to get filled within 3 days, hence triplicate.  CR: Those were just misunderstandings. Ok so in the alley where JB was killed, Bob Armen, an undercover FBI agent in the mafia was killed. The alley used to be a mob hangout.  Joe Pulgatti the mafia member pled guilty to killing Bob Armen.  Raglan was the arresting officer.  Pulgatti is in prison so they visited him, he pled guilty to get life instead of lethal injection.  Kidnapping went sideways. 3 guys in ski masks rolled up in a van to take Joe on a “tour of the city” & bobby went for one of their guns but ended up on the wrong side of it. (acab.) There was a truce between families bc pro kidnappers were nabbing guys from all five fams.  ghost crew Joe was in that alley but only him, bobby, & the kidnappers knew that.  How did raglan know? Raglan was a kidnapper.  Johanna was murdered there 7 years after JP’s incarceration.  (You look just like her, you know.) JB was the only one who wrote back to JP.  Joe, that’s most cops. Even if it is not, 10 people & 2 nazis makes 12 nazis. 

RM: We’ll talk about the definition of a direct order later. Beckett is pretty as always. (ryan no tie, I miss this, I’m so glad that s6 maybe s7 he starts undoing his ties) RC (NF) said “armand” not “armen” there.. Is esposito bisexual bc he’s wearing a shirt & a sweater & a jacket all layered Euh, knowing what happens later in the season is weird, I’m watching their facial expressions.  (girl imagine you’ve seen everything but s8) (What is going on with the file officer names tho? remember that.)

It’s like brackenreid. He put someone in jail bc they deserved to be in jail, but he put them in jail for the wrong thing.  & in some ways I agree with him, the law is not the be-all-end-all of what is right, but you’re a cop & you don’t get to make that choice.  (The broken mirror still there XD) Who? Somebody you’ll never touch?

Ok so Jolene Granger is dead. (meaning: why was He so concerned when rysposito visited the OTHER girl?) Yk I don’t like how everyone has guns everywhere, people should hash things out the old fashioned way: fists & feet. However: castle should be a private citizen who owns a gun.

Oh phew it’s a flashbang.  Tho, as someone who is already partially deaf, it has helped me to realize just how scary a flashbang is. You cannot rely on your ears when your eyes are out of commission, you cannot rely on your eyes when your ears are down... Plus, a flashbang is not just a flash & a bang, it is also a slap. It hits you physically, so if hellen keller was hit by a flashbang she would still notice the blast. Plus, flashbangs can get really hot. 

Girl when would you find a cell phone bill just sitting around in her house? She probably shredded it or put it in a secure documents folder.

It was probably too fast for him to take a real breath so he accidentally inhaled some water so he had to breathe out to get rid of the water, which just so happened to also get rid of air. Again, idk, I’ve never been tortured.  Did he choose ryan bc esposito was the one looking around noticing things & trying to get up as soon as the hood was off? Did he choose ryan bc ryan made the jerk you around comment? Did he choose ryan bc he knew esposito had been trained in this?

Poor ryan, not only is he being tortured but his clothes are wet too. Dang they had to frickin tie esposito up sexual style bc he was too strong & would have broken out to save his partner by now KR, once he’s out of the water again: Listen ass-clown, I was in catholic school for 12 years. Hell they used to do this to me for talking in cla- *dunks him underwater* BRUH WHY IS THAT SO ACCURATE. (& I mean, the writers really missed an opportunity. If he was queer in catholic school, like me, then he has definitely experienced this kind of torture.) & this is almost as much torture for esposito as it is for ryan.  But like how much do the cops really know? Would you be giving away your hand if you told them? Except they would kill you right after so this is the only way to survive. 

So lockwood is here, he has someone holding back esposito, he has someone dunking ryan, & he has a guard out front. That is an amount of people.  Going to be cold/sick looking for a place to stay? Or drunk walking down the street, that works too.  I like how she keeps her tone of voice as if she’s drunk bc he might not be able to hear her words but he can hear the tones. Or maybe that’s a deaf person thing & other ppl don’t experience what I do. Oh finally they kiss! (def already clipped on yt)

Ah yes, sometimes they remove frames from action shots to make them appear faster. Why did she turn around tho? Beckett used to be a unique character with a pixie cut, then with emo midlength hair (well it was 2009 ish) but now she looks boring. Just like any other white woman on instagram. She is indistinguishable from Addison from quantam leap. They both are just So Nondescript! Let beckett be normal again! Let her be cool again! Let her have a unique hairstyle! (but ig in 2009 she was ALSO nondescript & had the same hair as everyone else)

Episode 12x08: The haunting of Villa Diodati

...or in other words “The Doctor Who Version of The Terminator with Flirty Poets and Atmospheric Creepy Houses”.

In this episode, we’ve got Poetic!Graham who should totally meet ms Jane Austen.

It’s only 12 seasons into new who and I can finally say I saw the Doctor dance properly. 

Lord Byron’s hitting on the Doctor - oh boy, go ask Jack for a piece of advice. The Doctor is a tough game, but due to her ninth self “so worth it” ;)

“She is from somewhere much much stranger - the North”. Well, the jokes about the Doctor and the North never get old, I guess.

That Waterloo helmet was certainly Thirteen’s version of a fez.

Mrs Doctor sounded really cute to my ear somehow.

“You had one job!” oh my, bickering between Thirteen and Graham is just so good, I would gladly watch an entire episode of those two interacting with each other.

The reaction of three prominent poets to Thirteen flat out bumping into the glass wall was extremely relatable. 

“What is a cyberman?” asks Mary Shelley, and the Doctor continues giving her a very detailed idea of what her future monster might look like. Not interfering in the course of history at all, yeah, right. 

I absolutely adored the whole scene in the dungeon, where Thirteen makes the point of “words matter” (because they so do) and finally (finally!) shows her raw vulnerability to her companions with “sometimes even I can’t win” speech. It’s high time she dropped the “we are all on the same level” facade and started facing the truth as it is. It was bri-lli-ant. 

The lone cyberman with emotions was quite a refreshing idea, let’s see how that one goes in the next 2 episodes, I’m intrigued!

I love the idea that The Doctor has endless regenerations, because it means that the episode where The Doctor begged the Time Lords for more regenerations.... it means that the whole time, they knew. They knew that he already had those regenerations inside of him, and all they did was pretend that they gave it to him. They left the Doctor feeling like he was in their debt, when they didn’t actually do anything. He’s saved Gallifrey, and he’s destroyed it, but he was always left feeling like he owed them, when all along it was them who owed him.
