do you think any cultures in asoiaf would wear elaborate ruffs? in my mind they are popular in the free cities (esp the more north/western ones), mostly because braavos reminds me of 16-17th century Amsterdam in a lot of aspects, so I imagine them to wear clothes reminiscent of that
Yes wait I live for this idea
I think they’re present most everywhere (except for Dorne and the iron islands), but they’re especially prominent in the Vale. They wear the traditional starched white collars that we see in Elizabethan and Dutch Golden Age paintings. Definitely a sign of wealth that they can afford the pure white lace ruffs.
Braavos def works too there’s kind of a quirky and absurdist view to their fashion I think you can take where you see large wild ruffs, like a peacock fluffing their plumage.
Also maybe Blackwoods I like the idea of this random sect of goth riverlanders wearing black puff sleeves and ruff collars and baroque fashions while everyone else around them is wearing like…10th century Anglo-Saxon clothing
